“Peter is having a great time next door,” Gwen joked.

"Hopefully Peter won't get an ambulance called before we've finished eating. His opponent is pretty tough; he's an immigrant who just came from Russia," someone said.

The sound of tables and chairs being smashed came from the bar next door, and many people in the restaurant shrank back in fear.

“That’s terrifying. Is this the level of the main competition competitors?” Stephanie said.

Suddenly, a loud crash was heard, wood chips flew everywhere, the restaurant wall broke open, and the Russian giant Alexei smashed through the wall, arriving in the restaurant from the bar.

"Is this wall made of paper?" Li Qun asked.

The ambulance arrived and took the injured Alexei away.

Peter won his first match of the main tournament, but he didn't seem very happy.

After being pulled aside by the host in the bar to say a few words of congratulations, take photos with fans, and sign autographs, Peter hurriedly left the bar. After taking off his mask in an alley, he returned to the bar.

“He ran over and smashed through the wall himself,” Peter said to Li Qun, standing beside him.

“And it wasn’t you who called the ambulance for him,” Li Qun said, turning to Peter.

"We've saved you a seat. Would you like something to eat? Harry's treating."

“Whatever,” Peter said.

Alexei crashed through the bar into the restaurant, startling all the patrons. The restaurant only returned to normal after the ambulance arrived and took the unconscious Alexei away.

“Peter, after you receive the prize money, you should give some to Alexei,” Li Qun said.

"I will."

"Why would Peter give a portion of the prize money to this person?" Harry asked.

“Alexei has been called by an ambulance. He’s a recent immigrant and he’s short of money,” Liqun explained to Harry.

“Alexei doesn’t seem to have even graduated high school, and he can’t find a good job,” Peter said.

"Didn't the organizers buy you insurance?" Harry asked.

“Commercial insurance for combat sports does not cover ambulances,” Peter replied.

“Do you need to pay for the wall?” Stephanie asked in a low voice.

“No.” Peter shook his head.

"They even wanted to pay to keep the hole in the wall."

“New Yorkers are so weird,” Stephanie said.

“I guess they’re planning to create a street fighting culture, to fill the streets with fighting,” Li Qun said.

“They won’t succeed,” Gwen said.

“Fighting with fists feels pretty safe, at least there are no guns,” Harry said.

"Peter, who's your next opponent?"

“Wait for further notice,” Peter replied. “The organizers will call me, and I will record the call.”

"Is there any possibility that the outcome of the match could be rigged?" Stephanie asked.

"Is it a fixed match?"

“It’s possible to bribe Peter to secretly throw the game and lose, but we’re only in it for the prize money, not for fame,” Li Qun said.

“Yes,” Peter nodded.

“Something feels off. Is this right?” Stephanie looked at Peter and Li Qun.

"That's not right, children."

The guests at the next table suddenly turned to Peter and his group and said something.

"you are?"

Li Qun glanced at the stranger who had suddenly interrupted. The man was wearing sunglasses and a very respectable suit, and there was a white cane next to the table.

"I am a lawyer, and this is my business card."

The stranger took out a white business card from his pocket and placed it on the table. Harry picked up the card, looked at it, and passed it to Peter. Peter then passed the card to the next person.

The lawyer's business card passed through everyone's hands.

"Hello, Mr. Matt Murdoch, are you blind..."

"As you can see, because I am blind, I have excellent hearing and accidentally overheard your conversation."

“I don’t care about the fighting competition you’re participating in, but please respect any competition and don’t cheat,” Matt Murdock said.

“We will respect the competition; we were just joking,” Li Qun said.

“Your voices sound very young, are you college students?” Matt Murdoch asked.

“We are university students,” Li Qun replied.

"Hmm?" Peter glanced at Li Qun, who gestured to him with his eyes to keep quiet.

Matt Murdoch smiled; he realized Li Qun was lying to him. But it didn't matter; a soon-to-be college student was still a college student.

Matt Murdoch has the face of "the world's greatest detective." His legal profession has given him a deep understanding of human nature, and he can guess why Li Qun lied to him at a glance.

"If you encounter any legal issues, you can call me for consultation. My consultation fee is very low."

Matt Murdoch picked up his cane, stood up, and walked out of the restaurant.

"Did you see him pay the bill?" Harry asked.

“I didn’t see it,” Gwen replied.

“Maybe it’s because he’s a lawyer, so he doesn’t have to pay for his meals,” Stephanie said.

“What kind of lawyer would dare to eat without paying?” Harry asked.

“Maybe he’s a regular customer of this restaurant? The kind who pays his bill once a month,” Li Qun said.

The waiter came over and cleared the tableware from Matt's table. Harry asked the waiter for an answer.

“Attorney Matt settles his bill weekly,” the waiter replied.

“See, I guessed right,” Li Qun said to Harry.

"Who wants this business card?" Harry asked, glancing at the white business card on the table.

“Give it to Peter,” Gwen said.

Why give it to me?

“You look like someone who’s going to have problems and need to ask someone for advice,” Gwen replied.

"Ok."

Peter put away Matt Murdoch's lawyer's business card.

……

……

Peter nervously unlocked the door; coming home late had become his new normal.

"Peter, Ben and I had mille-feuille for dinner, and I saved some for you."

"Thank you, Aunt Mei!"

Peter put down his backpack and gave Aunt May a hug.

"How did the competition go?" Aunt Mei asked.

Peter's heart skipped a beat, and the next second his mind realized that Aunt May didn't know he had participated in the competition; he had told her he was going to watch the competition.

“My favorite player won,” Peter replied with a smile.

"Whom do you support?" Aunt May asked.

"It's... Deadpool!"

"Aunt May, do you know who's behind Deadpool's mask? It's Mr. Wade Wilson, Mr. John Wick's good friend!"

Peter silently apologized to Wade in his heart.

Anyway, Aunt May won't be going to the game, and she knows that "Deadpool" is Wade, so nothing will happen to her.

"I didn't expect John's friend to be so good, actually making it to the main tournament."

“Mr. Wade is very lucky, and this fighting match is more of a no-holds-barred style,” Peter said to Aunt May.

"Oh, right, Peter, there are some things for you. They were sent by Mary Jane."

"where is it?"

"Here..."

Thanksgiving is approaching, and Mary Jane from New Jersey sent Peter a Thanksgiving postcard and a gift.

Not only were there gifts mailed to Peter, but also to Liz, Lillian, Gwen, and Harry. It's more convenient to mail gifts to one address, so Mary Jane asked Peter to help deliver them.

Peter sat at the dining table and opened the email Mary Jane had sent him. Inside were gifts, letters, and photos. Mary Jane had written about her recent situation in the letter.

Chapter 189 Possession by a Ghost

"She could have just called you directly."

“But writing letters is more ceremonial, Gwen,” Li Qun said to Gwen.

"Peter, are you and Mary Jane dating or not?" Harry asked.

“No.” Peter shook his head.

“Is there any difference between this and negotiating?” Gwen asked Peter.

“We’re not together,” Peter emphasized.

“Geographically speaking, you’re not together. I can’t even imagine what things will be like for you two after Mary Jane goes back to New York for college,” Li Qun said.
