Chapter 411 Dark Fairy Tale
“Find Wade Wilson.”
Li Qun drew a circle in the air with his right hand, and a portal appeared in Wade and Leopold's hotel room.
It's 3 PM in New York, but 9 PM in Romania.
Light streamed into the dimly lit hotel room through the portal, and Wade, arms crossed, looked at Li Qun through the portal.
"Didn't you say that the portal can't open to places you don't know or haven't seen before?" Wade asked Li Qun.
“Since you and Leo are here, Wade, I can open the door,” Li Qun said.
"Ok."
"Did Dr. Banner send you to help us?" Wade asked.
“Dr. Banner hasn’t contacted me. Is there anything I can do to help?” Li Qun asked.
"So you suddenly missed us and opened a portal to find us?" Wade asked.
“No, it was Natasha. She came to our apartment and asked us where you were,” Li Qun said.
"Natasha?"
Wade covered his forehead.
“Who is Natasha?” Leopold asked.
“She’s Wade’s ex-wife, a stunning Russian redhead. They divorced because of domestic violence; Natasha was the one who abused Wade,” Li Qun explained to Leopold as he stepped through the portal.
“There are people who can abuse you, Wade?” Leopold laughed as he looked at Wade.
“Leo, you need to be careful. I read in the Dark Creatures Handbook that werewolves can be madly in love.” Wade pointed at Leopold.
“Normal people also suffer because of love, and besides, I’m no longer a werewolf,” Leopold said.
"What did Natasha ask you?" Wade asked Li Qun.
“She asked me where she was, and I told her she was in Romania, on a journey to find her roots with Leopold,” Li Qun said.
"It's alright. She can't find me yet," Wade said.
"Is Natasha here to cause you trouble?"
"There's a little trouble."
"What trouble?"
"Her sister Yelena told me that in the 1980s, they and several others disguised themselves as a family and infiltrated the United States to carry out espionage activities. Later, their identities were exposed, and their 'father' was captured by the CIA while covering their escape. She wants me to help her find her 'father' and rescue him."
"By the way, that 'father' was a Soviet-made super soldier."
“I pretended to investigate and told Yelena that I had found nothing.”
“Natasha probably realized I was lying from Yelena’s words and is coming to get back at me,” Wade said.
"How did Yelena determine that you could find her father?"
“Because Osborn created America’s super soldiers, she believed it was the result of research using her super-father as a research subject. But as you know, Osborn’s super-soldier serum had absolutely nothing to do with the Soviet Union,” Wade said.
"Let's not talk about this now. Since you're here, please help us solve some problems."
“Liqun, our town is surrounded by wolves. The townspeople and wolves have a blood feud, it feels like it’s a fight to the death.” Wade looked out the window.
“The wolves here are very intelligent; traps are useless against them. I suspect that the ancestors of these wolves may have been werewolves,” Leopold said.
"Let me deal with the wolves. My only way is to kill them. There's no other way."
“The only way to deal with the wolves gently is to consult Dr. Banner,” Li Qun said.
“Wade, you and Leopold shouldn’t be afraid of wolves.” Li Qun looked at the two of them with a puzzled expression.
"We also have another theory: that vampires are secretly controlling the wolf pack."
“We looked at a lot of local old books in the town library, including a children’s picture book about vampires controlling wolves,” Leopold said.
“Are you sure that’s a picture book for children? Even adults would think it’s a horror story,” Wade said, turning to Leopold.
“Liqun, the author of those picture books is German, and the stories were published in the 1950s or 60s. I’m sure that guy was a Nazi. Only a Nazi would tell children such terrifying stories,” Wade said, turning to Liqun.
"Have you been spending all your time here looking at picture books at the local library?" Li Qun asked.
“It’s probably because the town is so remote that the town library has some old books that should have been destroyed, like those children’s picture books,” Wade said.
"What's the story in general?" Li Qun asked earnestly.
"The Nameless Monster, The Man with Big Eyes and the Man with Big Mouth, The God of Peace, The Awakening Monster..."
“Just recalling the story makes me have nightmares,” Wade said.
“You can’t feel the horror just by hearing it. You have to see the pictures in the picture book. I think you can’t even dream about the pictures in the picture book,” Leopold said.
“The scariest thing is that everyone in this town who was born forty years ago has read those picture books,” Wade said.
"Could it be that picture books possess an unknown magic that subtly influences readers?"
“I’m going to find Dr. Banner.”
Li Qun opened a portal, leading directly to the New York Sanctuary.
It was 3 p.m. New York time, and Bruce Banner was sleeping.
"Dr. Banner, wake up! Earth is in crisis! An unknown enemy is invading our world!!"
Bruce Banner opened his eyes instantly and sat up in bed.
Where is the enemy?
"In Leo's hometown in Europe, the town of Vallejus."
Bruce Banner reached out and took a damp towel to wipe his face. After straightening his clothes, he and Li Qun went to Leopold and Wade's hotel room.
Bruce Banner walked to the window, looked outside, opened it, smelled the air, and frowned.
“I sensed the presence of magical power, but it was very weak,” Banner said.
"Dr. Banner, we have made a discovery."
"I'm listening."
“It’s like this…” Leopold recounted their recent experiences and discoveries to Bruce Banner. Leopold was far more eloquent than Wade, and he quickly made Bruce Banner understand the key points he should focus on.
"I will use a warding spell to drive the wolves away from the town, but the effect will not be permanent. The locals still need to figure out a final solution."
Bruce Banner didn't delay and immediately began casting a spell in his hotel room, causing a green light resembling the aurora borealis to spread across the sky.
The howling of wolves echoed from afar, rising and falling gradually into the distance.
“Now, let’s go to the town library,” Banner said.
"Let's go out the window, be careful."
Wade led the way, skillfully guiding Bruce Banner and Li Qun stealthily into the town library.
The wolf howl had awakened many people, and fires lit up the town, making it much more difficult for the three to stealthily navigate.
Chapter 412 Let's make a deal!
With winter approaching, wolves seeking revenge, an ancient town, and out-of-place outsiders... all the elements of a horror movie come together in the town of Valerius.
Bruce Banner lets Li Qun hold the "light" and, by its light, flip through eerie children's picture books in the dark town library.
The illustrations and vocabulary of the picture books are in line with children's aesthetics and way of thinking. The books are categorized and displayed in the children's book area, but these picture books should not be placed here.
"Look at me, look at me! The monster inside me has grown so big!!"
Bruce Banner's pupils glowed green as he looked at the story in the picture book. He almost lost control of himself, and almost lost control of Hulk.
He felt as if he saw his own story in the picture book.
In the story, this monster constantly burrows into other people's bodies, giving them power, but also devouring them completely from within. In the end, the monster consumes everyone, leaving only itself to wander the world.
"Dr. Banner, are you alright?"
"Stop looking, let's put all these books away."
Li Qun stared nervously at Bruce Banner. If he and Hulk lost control in this town, their lives would be in danger, and the town might disappear from the face of the earth.
"I'm fine..."
"I'll listen to you, I won't watch it."
Banner closed the picture book, and you could see cold sweat beading on his forehead.
Li Qun took off his coat and wrapped the picture books on the bookshelf in it.
"Wade, how did you find these picture books?" Bruce Banner asked, turning his head.
"The town library is also the town's archive, preserving the town's past. While Leo was exploring the town's history, I was looking for books to read here."
“The picture book is so colorful and beautiful; it caught my eye at first glance,” Wade replied.
“Do you have any particular feeling, like I do?” Dr. Banner asked.
"It's just a nightmare; the illustrations in the picture book come to life in my dream, like in a cartoon," Wade replied.
“There are fifty-one picture books in total,” Li Qun said.
“Liqun, go to the Kamar-Taj Library now and give these picture books to Old Wang. Tell him to put them in the restricted section,” Banner said to Liqun.
Li Qun immediately took the picture book and left.
"Should we investigate further?" Wade asked.
“No,” Banner said, shaking his head.
"Let's look around and see if there are any other bad books here."
"Are you staying up all night reading? Can you possibly read all these books?"
Bruce Banner and Wade squatted in the town library, Wade helping to hold the book "Light" while Banner quickly flipped through the pages.
From Wade's perspective, Bruce Banner is like the Flash with a green light ring, moving incredibly fast.
He took a book off the shelf and finished reading it in less than a minute.
