"In a daze, I heard Dr. Otto's inner voice, who said that I was a calculator that looked like a human."
"There was only one question on the exam that I couldn't answer, but I am of Chinese descent, so I couldn't leave the question blank. So I wrote 'Solution' on it."
"Dr. Otto thought I could solve the problem, but I couldn't. He asked me to answer it, and I said I couldn't. So Dr. Otto poured a bunch of new knowledge into my ears and made me solve the problem right under his nose."
"After I finished the last problem, I said I was going to hand in my paper, and Dr. Otto asked me to hand in my draft paper as well."
“I think Dr. Otto must be applauding my handwritten calculations in his heart; it was truly an exhilarating calculation process,” Li Qun said.
“Lyon, your explanation is very humorous. Otto will be very happy to have a student like you,” Mrs. Roch said to Li Qun with a smile.
“Last year, I taught 12th grade, and this year I’m teaching 11th grade.”
“Otto came to the school not just to teach you knowledge, but also to relearn.”
"Learn how to get along with people and how to communicate with them."
"If he makes a mistake and refuses to admit it, my class will be the next one after his class. You can tell me then."
Gwen couldn't help but want to complain, so she turned to Li Qun and whispered, "Is Rosie Otto's mother?"
“Child psychology applies to men of all ages,” Li Qun replied softly.
“Children, do you have any questions? Questions are only accepted today,” Mrs. Rosie said.
Gwen wrote a note and tossed it to Peter.
Peter opened the note and glanced at it. Gwen asked Peter to ask a question: Did Otto and Rosie have any children?
Chapter 22 The people of Aurora never have allergies
Otto sat in his car, waiting for Rossi to finish class. Once Rossi came out of school, he would drive him to a French restaurant he had booked for lunch to celebrate this new chapter in his life.
Dr. Otto was grading exam papers in his car.
He had his own desk at school, but it wasn't a single-person office desk. He wasn't used to working in the same room as his high school teachers; he always felt that the other teachers were secretly looking at him with strange eyes.
The school bell rang throughout the teaching building. The "ding-a-ling" of the electric bell had never changed since he was a student. Otto felt a surge of nostalgia as he listened to the noisy campus.
A few minutes later, Rosie opened the car door, gathered up the test paper that Otto had casually placed on the passenger seat, stuffed it into the brown paper tote bag next to her, and carefully checked it before getting into the car.
"The students told me you were late for class."
"Were you printing this pile of exam papers during those ten-odd minutes of lateness?"
Rosie looked at Dr. Otto.
"No teacher would put their students on a test on the first day of school."
“That’s not how it is in college. Some universities make up for failed courses during the first week of school,” Otto retorted stubbornly.
"My students need to adapt to a higher level of teaching habits."
"How are you feeling?" Rosie tossed the brown paper tote bag onto the back seat, Otto fastened his wife's seatbelt, and started the car.
"At least it won't be boring," Otto said casually.
"I feel like you found it fun in the very first lesson."
"If you were standing behind Lyon watching him finish the entire exam, what score would you give him?"
"It's barely watchable," Otto said.
"Why did you take his draft paper filled with calculations?" Rose laughed.
“Calculation is very important, and my biggest mistake was calculation error,” Otto said.
Otto sighed.
A few months ago, Dr. Otto opened a new chapter in his nuclear fusion research, and the scientific community cheered for him, believing that Otto Octavius would lead all mankind into an era of endless energy.
On the very night of the celebratory banquet held for him, Tony Stark arrived. Almost every prominent figure in America was present that night, and even the president called him. During his speech at the banquet, Tony Stark threw his new paper on the ground and, looking down at him, stepped on his hard work to ask him questions.
Tony Stark ate and drank, pointing at Otto with his saliva-covered fingers, telling him that his "artificial sun" was out of control and worthless.
While Otto still needed two or three years to prepare for his first experiment, Tony Stark had already completed the simulation at his home.
Tony Stark also told Otto that he had someone better.
The "better one" was the knife that ultimately killed Otto's scientific ideals.
The banquet that night did not continue, but turned into a seminar, where half of the academic community, in different time zones, verified the huge "problem" in Otto's experiment under Tony Stark's guidance. Otto's experiment was like throwing the Earth into the sun.
Otto locked himself in his room for over a month, his hair grew so long it covered his ears, and he spent his days drinking heavily and watching mindless TV programs. When he went out again, people thought they saw a gloomy, obese vampire.
……
……
In the school cafeteria, Harry Osborn, carrying his lunchbox, found Peter, Gwen, and the trio of Lillian in the corner.
"Do you bring your own food too?" Harry asked with a smile, opening his own lunchbox.
"Please move aside," Gwen said to Harry, who frowned as he watched Li Qun disassemble the six-layer insulated box and deploy it as a "base vehicle" on the four-person dining table.
“What are you guys doing? We’re just having lunch at school.” Harry’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
“I’m sorry, Harry, there’s only enough for the three of us,” Peter said to Harry.
Li Qun glanced into Harry Osborne's lunchbox and curled his lip.
"So-so," Li Qun said.
“I wouldn’t want to eat your lunch either; I’m allergic to a lot of things,” Harry said.
"That's so pitiful. They have to be as careful as if they're defusing landmines when they eat," Li Qun said.
"Aren't you all allergic to any foods?" Harry asked.
“Peter, I know you are allergic to mangoes.”
“Gwen, what are you allergic to?” Peter asked.
“We’re the same, we’re both mangoes. But as long as my lips don’t touch the mango, I won’t be allergic, and I can drink mango juice,” Gwen replied calmly.
“I’m not allergic to anything,” Li Qun replied.
“Chili peppers.” Gwen looked at Li Qun.
"Chili peppers? How could that be?"
“When you eat spicy food, your lips swell up, you breathe rapidly, you have a runny nose and watery eyes, and you sneeze. That’s an allergic reaction,” Gwen said.
“I don’t think it’s because I’m allergic to chili peppers; it’s just because they’re too spicy. My uncle likes to use good Mexican ingredients in his cooking,” Li Qun objected.
“And alcohol,” Peter added.
“Isn’t it normal to blush when you drink alcohol? Peter, you’re the same,” Li Qun said.
"You've all started drinking secretly?" Harry asked in a low voice.
"Stop talking about this, let's eat," Peter said.
"and many more."
Li Qun stood up, took out his new phone, 'sPhone', and took pictures of their lunch.
In the old world, the 'i' in iPhone was straight, while in the new world, the 's' in sPhone is curved.
"I'll forward it to you guys later," Li Qun said.
“Will photographers lose their jobs?” Harry asked.
"No." Li Qun put away his phone, sat down, and began to eat lunch.
Harry Osborn munched on his special lunch, watching Peter and the others enjoy their lavish meal, finding it utterly tasteless. At that moment, he began to miss the lunches at his New Jersey boarding school, where at least he could have the upper hand over Peter in terms of choices.
“Peter, are you eating this well just on the first day of school?” Harry asked.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, we’ll be eating this well all school year.” Gwen rubbed her belly. “I might gain weight.”
"Did Uncle Ben win the lottery?" Harry teased.
“The three of us won the lottery,” Peter laughed.
"Can I join you? I have some pocket money too," Harry asked, his eyes gleaming with envy.
“No, you’re allergic to many things, which will greatly limit the variety of dishes you can eat,” Li Qun said.
“I hate myself.” Harry Osborne took a big bite of his bread.
“Allergies are innate, but some can be improved through desensitization training and adjusting the cooking methods for allergenic ingredients,” Li Qun said.
“My father never cared about these things. He thought I was allergic to things and that I was just weak by nature,” Harry complained about his old father.
Chapter 23 Norman's Family Dinner
"They're all sons, so why is there such a big difference between them?"
“Harry, who are you talking about?” Peter asked.
“What my dad keeps saying lately is that Tony Stark graduated from MIT when he was seventeen, while I was expelled from the best private high school in New Jersey when I was seventeen.”
“There’s no point in comparing people,” Peter said, glancing furtively at Li Qun.
“He wants scientists’ children to remain scientists, and of course, capitalists’ children to remain capitalists even if they inherit the family fortune,” Harry said.
“Next time your dad says the same thing, just compare him to Tony Stark’s dad, Howard Stark. Just as there are differences between sons, there are also differences between fathers,” Li Qun said.
“You’re really bold. Do you defy your father like this at home too?” Harry looked at Liqun.
“I’m similar to Peter; I live with my uncle,” Li Qun said.
"Oh... I'm sorry."
“Li Qun’s uncle owns a Chinese restaurant, and our lunch is provided by Li Qun’s uncle. Li Qun’s uncle is the best chef in Chinatown,” Gwen said.
“Chinese food? I haven’t eaten much of that,” Harry said.
“I can take you there this weekend if I have time; it will open the door to a whole new world for you,” Peter said.
“Really, that’s great. I hope I don’t eat anything that I’m allergic to,” Harry said.
In the new school year, Li Qun also arranged a full schedule of AP elective courses for herself, a total of five college-level elective courses from Monday to Friday, and her time to go home after school was the same as Peter and Gwen's.
