Ainz Ooal Gown: Noble Knight
Page 117
Just as Ainz was about to ask Demiurge why he had come, his jaw suddenly snapped open.
Demiurge stopped in front of the desk.
Then, Demiurge raised his right hand, fingers together, and held his arm in front of him, his back straight.
This is a standard German military salute.
The pose is exactly the same as the one drawn in Ainz's proposal.
The red light in Ainz's eye sockets pulsed wildly.
His jaw was stretched to its maximum extent, almost touching his collarbone.
'Demeurge!'
He let out a silent cry in his heart.
Why did you do that at this time!
A green light, symbolizing forced calm, flashed across Ainz's body.
But after the green light flashed, Ainz's jaw remained open, unable to close for a long time.
Albedo stood beside Ainz, her gaze fixed on Demiurge.
Her expression changed noticeably.
Those golden vertical pupils narrowed slightly, his brows furrowed into an unpleasant arc, his lips pressed into a line, and his entire face was filled with undisguised disdain.
She looked at Demiurge with a "what a stupid thing to do" look.
A moment later, Albedo suddenly realized.
'I see.' Albedo thought to herself, 'That simplistic proposal was written by Demiurge.'
'No wonder Lord Ainz spoke up for that person.'
'Lord Ainz is so kind; he's even willing to tolerate such a low-level idea as Demiurge's.'
Demiurge maintained his salute, yet keenly sensed the subtle shift in the atmosphere.
He turned his head slightly, his gaze sweeping over Ainz's skeletal face with its bulging jaw, then shifting to Albedo's face, which was filled with disgust.
'strangeness.'
Demiurge thought to himself.
The atmosphere seems a bit off.
He was about to ask Lord Ainz what had happened, whether his salute was not standard enough, or whether his attire was inappropriate...
"Demeurge".
Ainz's voice rang out first.
They were much faster than usual, afraid that Demiurge would speak first.
Demiurge paused for a moment, then lowered his hand in salute.
"Yes, Lord Ainz." He bowed slightly, his posture respectful.
Ainz breathed a sigh of relief.
'That was close.'
If Demiurge were to speak first, who knows what questions he would ask.
"You came to see me," Ainz's voice regained the composure befitting a supreme ruler, though his jaw hadn't fully closed yet. "Is there something you need?"
Demiurge straightened up and adjusted his glasses.
“Yes, Lord Ainz.” He no longer considered the atmosphere; reporting to Lord Ainz was clearly more important. “It’s about Narberal’s request.”
Ainz was somewhat puzzled.
"Narberal?"
“Exactly.” Demiurge considered his words for a moment. “She hopes that during this mission in the capital, she can also eliminate some… cockroaches.”
When he said the word "cockroach," his tone was filled with undisguised disdain.
'Cockroaches? It's normal for girls to be afraid of cockroaches.'
Ainz recalled that although Narberal was a battle maid, her fear of cockroaches probably had nothing to do with her strength.
Chapter 53 Agree
Most of the female players Ainz encountered in YGGDRASIL reacted similarly to Narberal when faced with terrifying-looking insect-type monsters in the game.
Although the Double Illusion is strictly speaking gender-neutral, Narberal is, after all, a maid, so it's reasonable for her to be afraid of cockroaches.
Ainz felt that his reasoning made a lot of sense.
“Okay.” Ainz nodded. “In the future, there’s no need to ask for permission for these kinds of things. Just agree.”
“Yes, Lord Ainz.” Demiurge bowed slightly.
But Ainz suddenly remembered something and assumed a thoughtful posture.
'etc.'
'If it's just a regular cockroach, Nabella could just get rid of it herself. Why did she need to ask for permission?'
'Moreover, Demiurge even made a special trip for this.'
Ainz felt there must be some hidden story he didn't know about.
“Demiurge,” Ainz asked curiously, “could it be that these cockroaches… have something special about them?”
Demiurge looked up, his gaze meeting Ainz's behind his glasses.
His lips curled up slightly, revealing a meaningful smile.
“No, Lord Ainz,” Demiurge’s tone carried a matter-of-fact contempt, “these two-legged cockroaches are nothing special.”
Demiurge silently added to himself, 'After all, valuable, special species wouldn't be mistaken for cockroaches.'
For example, the Kingdom's Marquis Raven and Earl Eindora, these valuable nobles learned from Sebastian's intelligence, would certainly not be wasted like cockroaches.
Ainz was somewhat shocked upon hearing this.
'This world is truly amazing!'
Have even cockroaches evolved two legs?
Ainz even felt a slight urge to collect it.
'If it's a rare breed, collecting a few wouldn't be a bad idea.'
But the thought only lingered in his mind for a moment before he dismissed it.
'No, wait.'
Since Demiurge said "there's nothing special about it," it means that this two-legged cockroach is probably just a normal species in this world, not particularly rare.
'If you could find one so easily, it wouldn't have much collectible value.'
Ainz sighed silently to himself, feeling a little regretful.
Albedo stood aside and watched all of this.
Her gaze shifted from Ainz's skeletal face to Demiurge.
His expression changed from disdain to a hint of amusement.
'Two-legged cockroach.'
Albedo already knew what Demiurge was talking about.
In Demiurge's eyes, humans are probably just beings of this caliber.
'That's good,' Albedo thought to herself. 'At least when it comes to serious matters, this guy hasn't gone idiot.'
Albedo looked at Demiurge's elegantly smiling face, the disdain in her eyes barely fading...
Then Demiurge raised his right hand toward Ainz.
It was that German military salute again.
Albedo's expression instantly fell.
The look of disgust in those golden vertical pupils was even more intense than before. Her lips twitched slightly, and then she lowered her eyes, as if looking at them any longer would cause irreversible damage to her aesthetic sense.
'This guy's aesthetic sense…' Albedo thought to herself, 'Can he really understand Lord Ainz's perfect plan?'
She began to doubt Demiurge's taste once again.
Ainz sat behind his desk, his jaw slightly agape.
'here we go again……'
A flash of green light, exuding forced calm, swept across his body.
He quickly closed his jaw, trying to appear calm.
“Lord Ainz,” Demiurge said, maintaining his salute, “then I shall proceed with the preparations for the second phase of the plan.”
"Okay." Ainz nodded. "Go."
Demiurge lowered his right hand, turned and walked toward the door, seemingly unaware that the other two people in the office were staring at him with completely different gazes.
The door was gently closed.
Ainz sat in the chair, feeling the lingering guilt in his chest. He needed to do something to cover up his unease.
He reached out and picked up the third proposal on the table.
"It is suggested that members of Nazarick wear women's clothing for boys and men's clothing for girls. The reason is that this will increase diversity, allow members to experience different perspectives, and help with teamwork."
Ainz's gaze swept across the paper, and he already guessed who had written the proposal.
'Yau and Mare.'
He silently drew a conclusion in his mind.
'No, it should be said that only a teapot would do that.'
