Kuran Shu slowly woke up and watched the sunlight shining through the leaves, casting mottled shadows. He closed his eyes, wishing he could just sleep forever.

His body, weakened by a long period of lack of blood intake, has now regained its strength. Who saved him?

He opened his eyes again, propped himself up and looked at the young man standing by the lake.

In the True Ancestor's complete form, her toe-length white curly hair was hidden under her cloak, and her red pupils were staring at him indifferently.

"you're awake."

"Thank you for saving me. Are you also a vampire?" Kiryuu faced his savior politely.

The humans in the territory have discovered Zero Kuran's identity as a vampire. They call him a monster and demand that he hand over his blood.

Zero Kuran was disappointed with the resistance of humans, so he refused to drink blood. The long period of not consuming blood caused his body to become weak and he fainted.

Although he was rescued, he felt no joy in his heart.

Yin Li looked at Jiulan Shu, whose body had recovered but whose spirit was weak, and said, "I guess so."

Lifeless, pale, a walking corpse, confused...it is not an exaggeration to use all the bad words to describe him.

He was like a prisoner sentenced to death, numbly waiting for the sword of Damocles hanging in the air to fall.

Kiryuu Shu's bad behavior caused Yin Li to dislike him. Even though Kiryuu Shu was so destitute now, Yin Li had no intention of lending him a helping hand. He had planned to leave.

But the sound of horses' footsteps and the rolling of wheels startled a flock of birds and beasts.

Yin Li looked out through the forest and saw a cross pattern engraved on the carriage.

He reacted quickly, immediately knocked down Zero Kuran, and pulled off his cloak to wrap him up.

He caught Zero Kuran off guard and knocked him to the ground. The wide cloak covered both of them, and the thick trees concealed their figures.

Looking at the extremely nervous boy who was lying on him with his hair standing on end, he lowered his voice and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Be quiet." Yin Li covered his mouth and propped herself up slightly to observe the situation.

The wheels slowed down and the door seemed to open, but no one got out.

Yin Li could hear the whispers of conversation in the carriage. He held his breath and held back.

The conversation continued for several minutes.

The two leaned quite close, the white hair falling on the face of the knight bringing a slight tickle, while the boy still stared at his prey like a cheetah ready to pounce. His waistline was taut like a fully drawn bowstring, and his whole body was almost pressed against the knight, his body temperature permeating the fabric and branding the cold skin of the vampire.

Feeling the heat from the warm skin penetrating through his clothes, Zero Kuran couldn't help but tense his muscles.

Finally the carriage door closed again and the wheels began to rumble again.

"Finally gone, what bad luck." Yin Li stood up and patted the grass debris on his body.

"What is that?" Zero Kiryu took off his cloak and returned it to the boy.

"The Holy Church. There's a priest and an agent sitting in the carriage." Yin Li took the cloak and put it on. "Those two aren't anything special, but if they're targeted by the Holy Church's burial agency, we'll be in real trouble."

"The Holy Church..." Zero Kiryu watched the carriage go away.

Adhering to the feeling of sharing hardships, Yin Li asked a few more questions, "What's wrong? Is that your territory?"

"Yes, before." Zero Kiryu lowered his eyes. He had decided to leave the territory because of the human resistance.

"You go back. In order to maintain the stability of the territory, they will not take action against the lord in a high-profile manner." Yin Li's red pupils turned and looked at Jiulan Shu who was sitting under the tree.

Although she didn't know why he had ended up like this, Yin Li still couldn't bear to see him so miserable and complaining, as if the world had betrayed him.

Yin Li always thought that Zero Kuran was too idealistic, just like the chairman Kuroshu.

But he doesn't hate idealists, nor does he hate moths that fly into the fire.

It is groups of idealists who are like moths to a flame who are changing the world.

"There's no need to go back."

Listening to Jiulan Shu's depressing words, Yin Li sat down beside him with her knees hugged. "You look very sad. What happened? Can you tell me?"

Zero Kiryu's fingertips trembled slightly. The boy's concern broke through his defenses like a flood, but the pride of the vampire ancestor prevented him from opening his mouth to complain.

Yin Li thought to himself that this guy, Kuran Shu, was being arrogant now. He was really an uncooperative patient.

"If you don't want to talk about it, forget it. Just treat me as meddling in your business." Seeing that he wasn't going to speak, Yin Li stood up and prepared to leave. "See you again if we're lucky."

Watching the young man adjusting his cloak and preparing to leave, a sense of panic rose in Kiryuu's heart the moment he took a step forward, and he subconsciously grabbed Yin Li's cloak.

Feeling the pull on the cloak, Yin Li turned around and looked at the dejected Kakuran Shu, "I'm telling you, could you please stop humiliating yourself?"

"Look at you, blaming yourself like that. If you've given up on yourself, do you still expect a god to save you?"

The hand holding the cloak was completely bloodless, and the strength supporting him suddenly disappeared. He finally let go of his hand, and his body slid down the tree trunk weakly to the ground. "What do you know?"

An unknown anger rose from his heart. Compared to the decadent Kiryuu now, Yin Li preferred the Kiryuu he knew before. Although his behavior was too dissolute, he was at least alive and full of vitality.

"I don't understand what you're thinking." Yin Li stepped closer to him and looked down at him. "You don't tell me, but you want me to understand you. That's simply wishful thinking."

"Sorry." Realizing that he was taking his anger out on Yin Li, Kuran Shu suddenly came to his senses.

Yin Li didn't answer, just turned and left.

This time, Zero Kiryu didn't have the courage to grab his cloak.

Chapter 196 Jiulanshu 14

Zero Kuran never thought that there would be a church in his own territory.

It was a simple wooden church, occupying the best location by the lake, close to the edge of the forest. It was nestled between the mountains and the water, with fresh air and far away from human habitation.

He pushed open the heavy carved wooden door of the church.

The sunlight filtered through the rose window, casting dappled shadows on the church pews. The pews were empty, and the priest standing on the pulpit raised his head when he heard the voice.

"Welcome, are you here to confess?"

Zero Kiryu did not answer his question, but just observed the young priest in front of him.

Black monastic robes and long white hair, a silver cross pendant and red eyes.

"Long time no see." Zero Kuran said with some nostalgia.

The memory of Yin Li kept lingering in his mind. He didn't think about Yin Li, but the vague shadow of Yin Li seemed to remain in his heart.

"It's been a long time since we last met." Yin Li looked at Jiulan Shu.

About a year passed. During this year, Zero Kiryu never returned to the territory. No one knew where he had gone, and the people in the territory didn't care. They now had a priest, and their food, clothing, housing and transportation had become better. No one needed this lord anymore.

Kiryuu Kiryu was wearing a black robe that covered his face, and he really looked like a vampire who couldn't be exposed to sunlight.

The relationship between the two was not warm, and Yin Li had no intention of chatting with him. He put away the book in his hand and walked down the pulpit. "Excuse me, I need to go to rest."

"I'd like to take up some of your time, please talk to me." Zero Kuran called him.

"What can I talk to you about?" Yin Li stopped and the sunlight shone obliquely on his black monastic robe through the skylight in the dome.

Zero Kuran took two steps forward and pointed at the first row of church pews, "Please sit down. I won't say too much."

Yin Li placed the book on the bench and sat down. Jiulan Shu also took off his hood and sat down.

The two sat down on the same bench at a long distance from each other.

With particles caused by the Tyndall effect filling his eyes, Yin Li sat upright, looking straight ahead, waiting for Jiulan Shu to speak.

Kuran Shu clenched his hands and turned his head to look at the young priest sitting beside him. He let out a long breath, "How did you make their lives better?"

The boy looked at the pulpit in front of him and said, "They themselves have made their lives better."

If someone said that the boy had not brought any changes to the town, Zero Kuran would not believe it.

Just like this church, it was Yin Li who preached here, and the villagers raised funds to build this church. Even the stingy nobles happily joined in.

Shu Kiryu judged that he had an extraordinary influence on the people in the town.

"Then what did you do?"

"As you can see, I am a priest. All I do is preach and teach them some knowledge." Yin Li knew what answer Jiulan Shu wanted. "No one can give you the answer you want. You have to find it yourself."

He stood up, left the bench in the sun, and walked towards the side door.

"Even you can't solve my doubts?" Zero Kuran sat on the bench with his head in his hands, his voice low.

Yin Li said calmly, "If you have any confusion, you might as well pray. The Lord will answer all your questions."

"If there really is a master, why are we here?" Kuran Shu sneered, "All I want is an answer."

"You've traveled for a year, and you've gained nothing? What have you seen? What have you felt?"

Jiulan Shu raised his head and looked at Yin Li who was walking in front of him. "I saw people framing each other and killing each other. The strong were shameless and idle, while the weak were ignorant and as worthless as livestock. Everywhere was unimaginable poverty, oppression, degradation, alcoholism, hypocrisy, and lies..."

He raised his head silently, his red eyes fixed on Yin Li. After a long moment, he finally said, "My ideal is simply impossible to achieve. In this world, no one cares whether vampires and humans can coexist harmoniously."

"So you are going to give up?" Yin Li looked down at the downtrodden noble lord. The sunlight shone on his light eyelashes, and his red eyes flickered with fragments of light.

"You have accomplished what I could not," Zero Kuran looked up at the holy priest in the sunlight, "Please tell me, how did you bring a smile to the face of hatred?"

Rumors about the white-haired priest were everywhere, always ending with praise. Everyone maintained a tacit understanding, keeping silent about Yin Li's identity. Kuran Shu sensed the undercurrent beneath the surface; his and Yin Li's situations were so similar, yet they had achieved different outcomes.

"Because you treat them well. But I'm a monster, and they're afraid of angering me." Yin Li looked at him, "I never want to save anyone, nor do I want to destroy anyone."

Zero Kuran wore simple, coarse linen clothes, but he kept them clean and neat. Even the wandering life after leaving the territory could not wear away the nobility in his heart, just like his pure soul.

Yin Li paused for a moment and smiled, a smile as warm as a spring breeze. His eyes were firm and calm, as if he was stating an irrefutable truth. "But you are different. You have lofty ideals. I don't dislike idealists. I believe you can change the world."

Hearing his words, Zero Kiryu was stunned. A warm current rose from his heart, and a sudden strength supported him. His face shone with the dawn of a brand new future, the dawn of complete resurrection and new life.

Yin Li had never said anything good to him, but now Yin Li affirmed his ideals.

Seeing the fanaticism in Jiulan Shu's eyes, Yin Li became alert. He took a half step back and turned his back to Jiulan Shu. The hem of his monastic robe raised a cold and hard arc, "We have talked long enough. Lord, please go back."

Zero Kiryu's fanatical heart was poured with a bucket of cold water. He stood up, paced unconsciously, looked at Yin Li's back, and seemed to want to say something but stopped. In the end, he said nothing, just put on his cloak and left.

Yin Li turned around only when the footsteps faded away. In the empty church, the sun was shining quietly.

He sat back down on the bench.

As for Kuran Shu, he has the professional habits of a psychologist, listening, guiding, and encouraging. But on the other hand, he hates Kuran Shu's behavior and is unwilling to have a deep bond with Kuran Shu.

At the same time, he knew clearly that his arrival here was an accident and that he did not belong here. His overly sharp intuition was warning him that if he took another step closer, it would result in painful consequences.

But can the future truly be changed? Perhaps the outcome is already predetermined. Perhaps only time could have forced the reserved and elegant First Vampire into that state.
