Snapped!
The broom shot up at incredible speed and hit Tom straight in the face.
Tom, with his quick reaction, reached out and managed to grab the handle, but the force was too great and the broom broke in two.
Madam Hooch's eyelids twitched wildly, and Tom gave her an innocent smile.
"Professor, can I choose another broom?"
Chapter 37: Violating the rules is not the problem, losing is the big deal.
The school lost a broom in good condition before the class even started, and Madam Hooch was heartbroken.
But she couldn't blame Tom. It was an instinctive reaction and there was nothing she could do about it. She could only ask him to quickly grab another one and be more careful next time, and then put it back in its place.
When Tom returned, she began demonstrating how to ride a broom without slipping, and criticized several of the young wizards on their grip and sitting posture.
The young wizards whose names were called blushed - many of them had boasted about their flying skills before, and now all their secrets were exposed. When Malfoy was being scolded, Harry and Ron kept laughing, and Malfoy looked at the two of them as if he wanted to eat them alive.
After correcting everyone's posture, we finally arrived at the exciting practical session.
So far, Madam Hooch was quite satisfied. The students learned quickly and did not cause any trouble.
But the next second, Madam Hooch knew she was too happy.
Before she could blow the whistle, Neville was so nervous that he kicked off the broom and flew into the sky.
"Come back, kid!"
Madam Hooch shouted, but Neville could hear nothing. He kept rising higher and higher until he finally fell off his broom and landed in the grass with a thud, curling up into a ball.
Madam Hooch ran over and looked at Neville, her face as pale as his.
After instructing everyone not to move, she took the limping man to the school infirmary.
Tom watched the whole process coldly. He felt that Madam Hooch was also a fool and not worthy of being a professor.
The whole process from Neville flying up to falling to the ground took at least thirty seconds, but apart from shouting, she did not take out her wand to control Neville or use the levitation spell to save him.
What's the difference between this and Muggles?
"That's so scary." Daphne's face turned pale and she clutched Tom's arm tightly. "Is Longbottom going to be okay?"
Tom shook his head. "It's nothing serious. If you don't hit your head after falling from twenty feet, the worst you can do is break a bone. Didn't you see Longbottom walk to the school infirmary on his own?"
Twenty feet converted into meters is about six meters, which is the height of two floors, and it won’t kill someone.
A broken bone may take a hundred days to heal for a Muggle, but it is not considered a serious injury in the wizarding world.
Daphne's expression improved a little, and she threw the broom in her hand to the ground without hesitation.
Her broom didn't look much better than Neville's, and she didn't want to use something so dangerous.
Suddenly, a quarrel broke out not far away.
Malfoy mocked Neville with the crystal ball he dropped, and after a few words with Harry, the two flew into the sky and started chasing each other amid bursts of exclamations.
The Savior finally showed his unique talent - he had never ridden a broom before, but now he flew like a duck in water, as if it was his instinct, and he could perform all kinds of difficult moves with ease.
After dodging twice in a row, Malfoy became scared and threw the crystal ball away.
A foot from the ground, Harry caught the crystal ball and let it roll to the ground.
"Harry Potter!"
Professor McGonagall ran over angrily, her chest heaving violently, and took Harry, who had his head lowered, away.
.....
The first flying lesson ended in such a hasty manner.
After Mrs. Huo Qi came back, she learned from the students' gossip what happened after she left, and she was so angry that she almost fainted.
She took away all the brooms and only asked the students to memorize boring knowledge, which made everyone listless.
Tom didn't feel anything. After class, he went straight to the auditorium to eat.
Hermione caught up, "Tom, do you think Harry will be expelled?"
"How is that possible? It's not a big deal." Tom thought about eating more chicken wings later.
"Isn't this a big deal?"
Hermione looked incredulous, "Harry violated school rules and flew up there without permission."
"Then didn't you see that Malfoy was in trouble?"
Sniffing the aroma of meat, Tom spoke much faster: "Don't think of Hogwarts as a strict place. At least you don't kill people. Even if you curse the Minister of Magic and the Headmaster every day, Dumbledore won't expel you."
"As for what's a big deal? Losing is a big deal."
After saying that, Tom ran to the Slytherin table. Maybe he had been overusing his brain recently, or maybe it was due to his physical development. Not only did his appetite increase a lot, but he also got hungry very quickly. He felt a little hungry just after lunch and before the flying class.
Daphne used her own knife and fork to help him cut the steak, and carefully poured the meat sauce soup on it. When Tom finished eating the plate, she pushed her plate over.
Hermione was sitting at the Gryffindor table, pondering what Tom had just said.
Harry came back and sat next to Ron with a smile on his face. The two of them were talking in whispers, completely unaware that Hermione had heard everything they said.
"The professor didn't punish me, but let me join the Quidditch team and will start training next week."
"Are you kidding me?" Ron unconsciously put down the chicken drumstick in his hand. "Seeker? You're a first-year."
"Keep your voice down, Ron, it's still a secret."
Harry lowered his voice and said, "I thought I was dreaming too, but McGonagall said I was the youngest Quidditch player in this century. He also took me to see Wood. At first I thought he was going to hit me with a piece of wood."
"That's great, that's great."
Ron agreed somewhat dejectedly, feeling happy that Harry hadn't been punished, yet also feeling a little sad.
"Potter, is this your last dinner at school? After you finish eating, you should go back to the Muggle world."
Malfoy came over with his followers to taunt Harry. He originally wanted to see Harry angry and unwilling, but to Malfoy's disappointment, Harry's expression was very calm, even a little playful. He did not look at Malfoy, but at Goyle and Crabbe behind him.
"You don't have the courage to do that in heaven. Is it because you have these two little guys backing you up now?"
Malfoy's face turned pale, and Goyle and Crabbe clenched their fists, but because the professors were all in the guest of honor table, they could only glare at Harry fiercely.
"You want a one-on-one fight? If you wish, how about tonight?"
Chapter 38 Midnight Duel, Tom, why are you here?
Ron accepted Malfoy's duel invitation on Harry's behalf and took the initiative to act as Harry's assistant.
Harry was confused throughout the whole process, not knowing why he was suddenly facing a duel.
After Malfoy left, he asked, "What exactly is a wizard duel? Why do we need assistants? Are there any rules?"
"Oh, if you die, the assistant will take over until everyone on one side is dead."
Ron's words were an understatement, but Harry's hair stood on end. Seeing Harry's face turn pale, Ron realized that there was something wrong with what he said. He quickly tried to make amends, "What I meant was that this is the rule of wizard duels, not about you and Malfoy."
"Do you think you have the ability to kill each other?"
The paleness faded, but Harry's face still looked bad. It had only been two and a half weeks since the start of school, and he had only managed to cast a handful of spells, with a success rate that was patchy.
"Is using fists against the rules?" Harry asked.
Ron thought for a moment and said, "Technically, yes, but if the two of you were to duel with only your wands, you probably wouldn't be able to hurt each other by dawn the next day."
He waved his hand, "Just punch him in the nose. I've been wanting to beat him up for a long time."
Harry thought about it and realized that this was the truth. He whispered to Ron and discussed how to deal with it when the time comes.
In the end, the two decided to crook Malfoy's nostrils, which he used to look at people, and then pull out his proud golden hair (actually platinum). If necessary, they could bite him to death.
Hermione's brows were furrowed as she listened to the whole thing. She wanted to stand up and stop the two men's crazy behavior, but Tom's words "losing the fight is the big deal" made her hold back for some unknown reason.
.....
"It's half past eleven, Harry. We should go."
In the dead of night, Harry and Ron put on their clothes, moving very quietly for fear of disturbing their roommates.
After carefully closing the door, he walked down the spiral staircase and entered the Gryffindor lounge. Except for the fire in the fireplace, all other lights were off and the light was very dim.
"Wait a moment."
Just as the two of them reached the door, they heard a female voice behind them, which scared them to death.
When I turned around, it was Hermione.
"I'll go with you and duel Malfoy."
"What did you say?" Ron couldn't believe his ears. He remembered that Granger was a typical academic master. Except for being slightly inferior to Riddle in the Serpentine College, he was almost the professors' favorite student.
"I said, I want to duel with you too." Hermione said again.
"I thought you were going to tell the prefect, or even go to the professor." Harry suspected that he had misheard and took a step back cautiously. "You don't want to catch me in the act, do you?"
"I was actually planning to do that," Hermione admitted frankly. Then, after the two of them changed their expressions, she added, "But Tom is right. Winning is the most important thing."
"You two... Honestly, I really don't know what spells you've mastered. Do you really intend to fight with your fists? You're wizards, not boxers."
Harry and Ron felt ashamed and embarrassed by what they said, but they still agreed to Hermione joining. At least Hermione knew more spells than them.
The three of them left the common room and heard a wheezing sound on the floor. Harry thought it was Filch's cat, Mrs. Norris, and almost turned around and ran back to the common room, but the Fat Lady had gone out to visit friends late at night and the door was closed.
"Neville, why are you here?" The sharp-eyed Hermione saw clearly that the person hiding in the corner was not Mrs. Norris, but Neville Longbottom who was sent to the school infirmary in the afternoon.
"Thank God, you finally came to find me." The little fat boy said with tears in his eyes: "I forgot the password and couldn't go back to sleep. Fortunately, you found out that I was gone, otherwise I would have slept here until tomorrow."
Harry and Ron avoided looking at each other in tacit understanding. They had no idea that Neville was not in the dormitory.
"Neville, how's your hand?" Harry asked, changing the subject.
