Reincarnated As A Chameleon And Eating Everything To Evolve

Pinching the cheeks of the three ȧduŀt kobolds in front of him, Matthew was still trying to understand what had just happened overnight.

"Your cheeks are not as squishy as they used to be, are you three really the kobold kids?" 

"Yes we are brother Matthew, we've evolved."

Matthew then proceeds to ċȧrėss the three kids' heads one by one before saying,

"Your skull shapes had also changed, albeit only a little. Are you three really, really the kobold kids?"

"Yes we are brother Matthew, we've evolved."

"See!? Even your voice sounded different! Are you three really, really, really the kobold kids?"

"Yes we are brother Matthew, we've evo-"

"Yes, yes I know, kid. I know you're the first kobold kid. And they are the twins." Matthew said to the kobold who had been talking with him from the start before looking at the other two kobolds standing behind him.

"And you," He said while pointing at another kobold who was busy checking out his own body and trying to test out his new strength by punching the dirt walls, "You must be the second kid."

"And the last one," Matthew said while looking at the other kobold who is also checking out her own body, but more subtly compared to the second kobold by only doing light stretching movements that Matthew had taught her before, "You must be the third kobold kid."

"Let me just take this in first…" Matthew said to the kobold kids who had suddenly grown into an ȧduŀt overnight.

"Kids do grow up so fast… Last week they were so little that I could carry them like a potato sack on my shoulders, but now they are already as tall as me…"

"But brother, you do know that we've only naturally gotten taller until we've reached level 5 and stopped growing until we've reached level 10 and evolved right? And I don't know what a potato is, but even now you're still able to carry us easily on your shoulders with your strength right?"

"The first one is new to me, but the second one is probably correct, I just wanted to say that line from when I was younger," Matthew said before he properly got up from his dirt bed.

"Alright, kids- folks let's grab some breakfast first." He said while leading the three ȧduŀt kobolds outside the now-cramped wolf's nest.

Matthew was munching on a whole raw deer while the three kobolds were vigorously eating what's left on the cooked deer that they prepared yesterday.

"So, have you all checked your info tab?" Matthew asked before taking another bite of the deer's belly.

"We have! First brother had woken us up first thing in the morning and told us to check our info tab even before we realized that our bodies had grown so much!" The second kobold said right before munching on the cooked deer's thɨġh.

"Yes brother, I'm the first to wake up and realize that we had suddenly evolved. So I told second brother and third sister to see their info tab before they felt the change in their body to surprise them. And last, after we're all awake, I wake you up to surprise you!" The first kobold said.

"Are you surprised, brother Matthew?" The third kobold asked with a feminine voice that had slightly surprised Matthew.

"Yes, I'm more than just surprised." He replied while cleaning the meat on the bones that he was eating.

"So that means your race is now all ȧduŀt kobolds? Did any of you have a different race name?" Matthew asked the ex-kids.

He was kind of hoping that the kids would evolve to another race like a kobold monk or a kobold boxer or something else that is related to fighting with their fists since he had trained them to fight only using their own fists rather than using the spears like the other kobolds. 

So, Matthew looked at the three kids with expectant eyes. However, the twins just nodded and said yes, while smiling brightly at Matthew which means that they didn't get any new race name on their info tab. 

Matthew was about to be slightly disappointed, but realizing that the first kobold kid didn't give him any reaction, his hopes went up, and asked,

"How about you kid? Did you get something different?"

The first kobold kid then sighed and said with a slightly troubled face,

"Well, I kind of already expected that I will get something like this sooner or later, but I don't think it will be this soon."

"What is it? Why are you sad? Isn't it good that you got something different than an ordinary kobold? I'm not saying that being an ordinary kobold is bad, and you twins will also evolve into something else soon when you reach level 15."

"I'm not really sad, brother Matthew. It's just I'm still hoping that I could fight like the kobold warriors, but with my current race name, I guess it's settled that I will definitely become a kobold mage when I evolve on level 15. My current race is Juvenile Kobold Mage. Isn't it obvious what I would evolve to after I reached level 15?"

"I've also tried to use magic earlier, and it has become easier for me to feel and command the elements compared to before."

Matthew was looking at the first kobold kid's face that clearly showed a resigned face as if he was already accepting the fact that he would have to throw away his dream of fighting on the front line just like his father.

Matthew genuinely thought that receiving a specialized race is far better compared to being a general kobold since that means that the first kobold kid could focus on that one specific trait and improve it until he becomes an exceptional mage which is not unthinkable since he got the talent for it.

However, after he got a flashback about a glimpse of his past, he now could understand what the first kobold kid had felt. It was exactly how it would've been for him if he had decided to throw away his passion for music and become an engineer instead because he was really good at physics and math.

So, instead of telling the first kobold kid to give up his dream and just focus on his magical talent, he instead said,

"Well, let's figure something out, shall we? Kid, I think you are clearly smarter than me, don't just give up like that, you have to at least try! Why don't you try to think of a way to accomplish both of your goals to fight like your father while still being a kobold that uses magic just like your grandpa? It might've never been done before, but that doesn't mean that it was impossible if we don't try it first right? You still have another 5 levels before evolving. And it's not like you lose your ability to swing your fist if you really evolve into a kobold mage on level 15."

The first kobold kid was earnestly hearing what Matthew had to say to him. And hearing that there's a chance that he will be able to keep being his grandpa's successor while keeping his own dream to fight like his father that he adored so much, had given him new hope and a new mindset to keep on trying.

'Why didn't I think of that before? A kobold mage that fights on the frontline? Why not?' The first kobold thought to himself.

"Thanks, brother Matthew! I will definitely try to figure something out!" He said before he continued on eating the deer meat.

Matthew was the first to finish eating a whole deer by himself and the kids soon followed eating the leftover deers that they had last night. Matthew felt that one deer is not really enough to fill his stomach and seeing the three kids that had grown as tall and as big as himself, he felt that the leftover deer wasn't enough for them. So he asked,

"So… I ȧssume you're all still hungry?"

"YES!" The three kids replied simultaneously.

"Then let's catch some breakfast, shall we? It's also a good time to test out your new strength?"

Matthew then remembered his thoughts yesterday about the true ability of the wolf's aura ability and said,

"Oh, and I also want to try something new."

"Something new? Showing off one of your abilities again, aren't you? Brother Matthew?" The first kobold said with eyes full of interest.

"It's not exactly a new ability, but the application on how I use it is certainly a new idea. And if it works then you three will also get a boost in your strength!"

"Boosting our strength? How? Please do it, brother Matthew!" The first kobold said.

"Okay, do you want to do it right now?" Matthew asked.

"Wait, now? Now like, right now?" The first kobold asked.

"Yes, now, now," Matthew replied.

"It's okay, I guess…? How about you two?" The first kobold asked the twins.

"Let's try it now brother!"

"Yes… I'm also curious about it, brother." 

The twins said.

"That means let's go do it right now, brother!" The first kobold said again.

"Alright then, you three don't need to do anything. If you feel something is reaching out to you, just accept it onto your body and let it do its thing. But I really don't know the details so just don't fight back if you feel something even if it feels weird, okay?"

"Okay!" The three of them replied.

"Here we go!"
