Those once bright blue eyes of his was filled with fear, and it was not difficult for Odette to see how shaken up the boy before was from the incident.

His hands trembled while he tightly gripped on to the material of his bedsheet, and his face had become couple of shades paler. Tears were present at the corner of his eyes, leading to a glistening effect on his eyes.

"Are you scared?" Odette asked.

Adrian nodded and said, "I-It was really scary, Lady Odette. That man was really scary. He beat me up. He said that I will die. I don't want to go back there. I want my mother. I hate this."

Odette stared at the crying boy, wondering how long it would take for him to break down completely. Staring at him made her recall about how she used to be before, holding hope for a happier life, before she completely grew exhausted of it and decided to find joy in something else.

"Your mother won't come at here. It's impossible; you are stuck at here until the day you die."

As those harsh yet realistic words left Odette's mouth, they caught the attention of the little boy, and while the tears in his eyes halted, he raised his head to look at Odette.

"I am stuck at here?" the boy questioned.

The disheartened face showed how he was hit cruelly, and a part of him was not ready to believe this. Ever since he had been here, many horrible things had happened to him, and there was not more he was able to endure. He wanted to go back to his mother.

"This place is frightening. I have felt the same way about it too. That's why, you have to become frightening, so that nothing scares you. What happened today was because you were too weak,'" Odette spoke out, staring at the boy's face for a reaction.

"Frightening?" he said, tilting his head slightly in confusion.

"In order to survive at here, you have to become like those monsters in the stories your mother told you about. At this place, only the monsters live," Odette stated.

As a kid, everyone dėsɨrėd to grow up as those hero in the story, but the reality how being a hero is tough hits them gradually while they grow up. Not everyone has the courage to become a hero.

"But aren't you alive at this place? You are not like a monster. I want to grow up to become like you. When you rescued me earlier, you felt like a hero to me. If you are there by my side, I will be able to live here without becoming a monster," he spoke out, "You were really cool!"

Maybe this was why everyone adored kids— at least the ones who were normal. They held an innocence in their eyes, which was capable of piercing through the coldest of the hearts.

"It would be foolish of you to believe in me. Not always can I protect you," Odette vocalised.

Instead of being irritated at that emotion blooming within her, she found herself being fascinated by it. She could not recall about feeling like this before, and it made her inquisitive.

Holding both of his hand in front of her face, he bend two of his hands down and said, "You don't need to protect me always. Just wait these many years for me, and I will protect you. I promise."

"After all the things I will be doing to you by then, I doubt protect is one of the things which will come to your mind," Odette stated.

Foolish— that was the word other than naive which came in her mind as she heard the boy speak on further. This made her curious on how he was able to survive here in his past life.

Was it purely his luck— the fact that he was destined to be a hero?

Odette was plainly intrigued by the entire thing. She dėsɨrėd to see him rise up to that position once again— this time by her own eyes.

"What do you mean?" Adrian questioned, crinkling his nose due to confusion.
