513 The request to twist the facts

Vincent moved his gaze and saw five soldiers approaching in the far distance. He focused his sight and noticed that one of them had a cape. It was a vice-captain.

[That’s Ganni.] Kazumi informed.

“Can I leave the explaining to Ganni to you, Russo?” Vincent requested.

“Ganni? Yes, leave it to me. I know most of what happened here. I will also tell him to bring soldiers and take care of things here.” Said Russo reassuringly.

“We were attacked on the way home by the assassins. They told me I made someone who shouldn’t be messed with angry. I bet it is one of the three noble families, I pissed.”

Vincent turned around and faced the Ponalis family carriage, where everyone gathered.

“Next time their children mess with me, I will slap the living daylight out of them.”

Vincent looked at Russo. He slyly smiled and said, “The army of the Lusterfall Kingdom sure is strong. Five soldiers and a captain were enough to save two noble families from more than thirty or over assassins by themselves.”

“Huh? But we...”

.....

“I am glad we were saved without helping the soldiers fight, not even the slightest.” Vincent interrupted. He winked at Russo and continued, “We nobles aren’t that strong, right? ”

Russo understood what Vincent was trying to mean. This all happened because his enemies underestimated Vincent and the new Lionheart family.

If Russo made a report to have the soldiers saving the nobles being attacked by the assassins, then Vincent could remain a weak noble in the eyes of many and also in the reports.

Furthermore, the order to have soldiers keep an eye on Vincent was removed when Vincent became a noble. Thus, there was no secret eye other than a witness or two who saw what happened and kept watching instead of hiding or running away.

But now, that will be the job of the soldiers to take care of everything.

“I understand, Lord Vincent Lionheart. We, the soldiers of the Lusterfall Kingdom, did our job to keep all the citizens safe from harm.” Russo agreed.

With the reassurance of a captain rank soldier’s words, the next time Vincent could have another hit on his head, the employer wouldn’t know that they are sending mice to take care of a lion.

Russo saw Vincent leave with Ester in his arms and Lupa following him. He looked at Zefine and extended his hand. “I feel ashamed I couldn’t protect you.” He said in an apologetic tone

Zefine looked at Russo and accepted his help. She stood up, yet her legs were weak from the second fright of her life.

“I am sorry... I don’t have strength in my legs...”
“It is normal. My heart almost stopped when I thought you died.” Russo confessed.

Russo and Zefine looked at each other. “I..” Both said before Ganni appeared huffing and puffing, interrupting them.

“What happened here? I was returning home with my friends accompanying me, but we heard an explosion in the direction of the Emerald Lionheart Mansion.”

Ganni looked around and continued, “We rushed until the sight of blood, smell of fire, and death welcomed us.”

Ganni saw Zefine holding on to Russo’s arm while her skirt moved as if her legs were shaking. “I hope no one got hurt.” He said while looking at both Russo and Zefine.

Russo shook his head. Then he quickly explained what happened, how the captain of the Lusterfall kingdom’s city defense army and five common ranked soldiers took care of all the assassins with barely any assistance from the nobles being attacked.

As for any fatality, they were all on the side of the assassins. The side that was attacked only suffered injuries. Russo, however, didn’t know that the two butlers weren’t in good condition from the bleeding.

After receiving a quick explanation of what transpired, the four soldiers behind Ganni became amazed at how powerful Russo was. Based on what happened, Russo was a mighty force to be reconded with.

However, on Ganni’s face was a frown when he saw Lupa walking beside Vincent. Ganni concluded that Russo was altering the truth.

Lupa had given Ganni the impression of being an opponent no one should underestimate. Not when her golden eye shined and emitted a mysterious, intimidating feeling while her body moved as if she predicted their thoughts simultaneously.

Ganni had observed Lupa sparring with the twins at once, both in her beastman and white wolf form. The more he saw Lupa fight as if it was playing a game. The more Ganni learned that Lupa was giving the twins a handicap instead of the other way around.

“I understand. I will go to bring soldiers to take care of the situation while my friends start assessing the situation. Thank you, Captain Russo, for keeping our streets safe.” Ganni said, causing his friends to continue believing Russo was the one who saved the day.

Ganni saluted Russo and ran to the barracks while his four friends went to offer their assistance, capture any fainted assassins, or find and take the names of witnesses.

Russo looked at Zefine and asked, “Can you walk now?”

Zefine shook her head. Her legs were still weak from almost experiencing a horrible death.

Russo heard a carriage arrive. He turned his head and saw a carriage with three horses and the lion’s head insignia on it. The carriage soon parked near the Ponalis family’s damaged carriage, at the front part of the street.

*Gulp* “Hold still.” Russo said before lifting Zefine and carrying her like Vincent was preciously carrying Ester.

Zefine blushed beat red. Now all the strength in her legs waned from nervousness and feeling embarrassed. Her heart raced at the view of Russo’s face close to her.

From the carriage, the twins jumped down from the front seat as they tried to imitate how cool they believed Vincent looked every time. The door opened, and three women exited the carriage. They were Iris, Lilith, and Yula.

Iris was used to seeing the death of her people and the last time of humans. On the other hand, Sofy was used to the sight of slave corpses.

Similarly, Maria, Fliara, and Eliara were only bothered by what was in front of their eyes.

However, it was different for Lilith, Lenn, Renn, and Yula. They joined Sakura, and Jun Ye Rim as all of them puked at the view of corpses and the horrible stench of blood.

Iris frowned when she saw Vincent bringing a fainted Ester while Lilith wiped the mouth with a handkerchief and followed Iris to check what had happened to Ester.

“Don’t worry. Ester used a lot of mana. She only needs a balm to treat the light scald on her leg.” Vincent moved his head toward the Ponalis family’s damaged carriage. “They are the ones who need medical attention.”

Iris and Lilith became unhappy to see Ester in this state, yet they trusted Vincent’s words.

“Sister Lilith. Let’s check on the other injured people. Our sister is in safe hands.”

“Yes, Iris. I will try to help with my meager recovery spells.”

Iris and Lilith said before going to help the butlers, the old maid, Aceon, Tiffi, Phil, James, Hops, and their two soldier friends.

Vincent saw his two wives leave to help the others. He felt proud to have such caring and reassuring support.

Vincent entered the carriage and gently placed Ester on the comfy seat. “We will soon take you home.” He moved his gaze and saw Lupa sitting in front of the door and whimpering because of the injured Ester.

Vincent summoned spare clothes and a towel on the seat and said, “Take care of your sister while she sleeps.”

Lupa wagged her tail and jumped inside. She shapeshifted and started cleaning herself.

*Sigh* “Hurry up before someone sees you naked. ” Said Vincent while closing the door in a hurry.

Vincent turned around and saw Maria, Fliara, Eliara, Sakura, and Jun Ye Rim behind him.

“Ester is going to be fine. ” Vincent said. He looked at Sakura and smiled warmly. “It is dangerous to go out without a proper disguise, yet you came to help instead of coming later in the carriage. Thank you for worrying about us.”

“My man and my sister come first. ” Replied Sakura with a saddened expression hidden behind the shade of the hood.

Sakura felt sad yet angry at the same time. After all, she couldn’t join Lupa and help them because she couldn’t publically participate in a fight.

If word got out that a person of the demon race was killing humans, the assassins might look like heroes instead of murderous villains with a few little twists of the truth.

Vincent, Maria, and Yula went to check on the Ponalis family members while Sakura and Jun Ye Rim stayed with Lupa, watching over Ester.

Vincent saw Sofy attaching one of their horses to the damaged carriage. Beside them was Lilith using her Minor Regen spell to help the horse recover slightly faster. Inside the carriage was Iris treating the two butlers with herbs and bandages.

Vincent felt blessed to be surrounded by people he could trust and people pulling their weight with different jobs.

Vincent approached Aceon and went to check on him. “I am sorry for I got you and your family involved in. ” He apologized.

“I understand what you are thinking, Vincent... but no one died.” Aceon looked at the horse and at Lilith treating it. “Not even our horse died. That is all thanks to you and the people who follow you.”

“My family and my servants were in danger, yet you tried to solve your problem without involving us any further. You brought this situation to us, yet you protected us and didn’t ask for any help.”
