The Alpha King
Chapter 53 - 53
"Speak," Xavier demeaned as we both stood up from our chairs. The werewolf who rushed in took a deep breath and then said,
"The-the Spell casters, they attacked the Blood Wood pack that were on their way over here."
"Casualties," Xavier asked, not breaking eye contact with the werewolf once.
"Not one survivor."
My heart stopped dead in my chest. I sucked in a breath as it began to beat faster and faster the more the conversation went on.
"Out of how many, Liam?"
"Fifty werewolves and only four Spell casters dead Your Highness." Liam said looking down, his face distraught.
I glanced at Xavier trying to gauge his reaction but his face held no expression. He controlled his emotions far better than I ever could.
"Send out the Scouts to the location of the attack."
"The Scouts Your Highness?"
"Yes, I want them to scout the entire area and gather as much information as they can about the attack. I want a full report on my desk by six am tomorrow."
"Of course Your Highness, I'll leave right away."
"Xavier," I said tentatively. He glanced sideways at me but didn't say anything.
"How could they have taken down fifty werewolves?"
"I don't know, I didn't expect them to be this powerful and to attack like this."
"Do you think they are trying to attack us in small groups because of our numbers?"
"That's exactly what they are doing. It would be easier to defeat us in smaller groups than all at once."
"What are we going to do?" I said fear lacing my voice. If they could easily kill fifty werewolves, do we even stand a chance against an entire army of them? Xavier knew exactly what I was thinking.
He turned towards me, determination in his eyes. This was the Alpha King, the most powerful werewolf to ever exist. He was made of steel, nothing would break him. I needed to have more faith in him, in us, in the werewolves.
"We are going to avenge our brothers and sisters who have fallen belie-"
Xavier's eyes glazed over and I looked at him confused until I realised someone was mind linking him.
"Most of the packs have started arriving. There will be a feast at four to honour the fallen and afterwards I have called for a meeting with the rest of the Alphas and their Betas at seven. We have much to discuss and it cannot wait for tomorrow, we can't waste any time."
"Oh okay, is there anything I can do until then?"
Xavier walked towards where I stood in front of the table and then sat down on top of it, directly in front of me. I yelped as he grabbed me around my waist and drew me towards himself until I was situated in between his long legs.
His hands travelled lower until they rested on my buttocks and then he kissed me, hard. I blinked in surprise but then kissed him back.
We sprung apart as the doors to the room banged open.
"What now," Xavier sighed, " I swear we just keep on getting interrupted today."
"Well, well isn't this cosy," a deep voice drawled. I turned to look at who was speaking and saw a man briskly walking towards us, he was quite attractive if I might add but there was a sly almost mischievous look about him.
His curly blonde hair bounced as he walked and his blue eyes sparkled as he looked at me. He slid his eyes towards Xavier who was already glaring daggers at him, his arms crossed.
"Xavier, is this the Queen?" Blonde boy said as he glanced back at me and looked me up and down, a smile plastered onto his face.
"It's Your Highness or Alpha to you Sebastian."
Sebastian waved a hand at Xavier's words in dismissal and merely laughed lightly. He turned his back on Xavier and faced me once again. I was surprised at this guys flippant behaviour towards his well, King. Seeing as Xavier hasn't killed him by now I can only guess that the two know each other well, however, if they know each other why does Xavier look as if he wants to kill him?
"My but she's a beauty. Xavier, where have you been keeping her locked up all this time?"
Xavier growled and moved so fast that one second he was seated on the table, his arms crossed glaring at Sebastian's back and the next he was right next to me, his arm secured around my waist possessively.
"She, is your Queen, so show some respect." Xavier seethed as he continued to glare at Sebastian.
"You're right," Sebastian took my hand before I could move away and kissed the top of my hand, "my sincerest apologies my Queen, I was merely taken by your beauty."
"Ah...apology accep-"
I shrieked as Sebastian was slammed against the table, Xavier leaned over him, his hand around Sebastian's throat.
"Xavier, what on earth are you doing! Release him at once!"
"He kissed you!" Xavier mind linked me, seething.
"It was on my hand!"
"I don't care, he has no right."
"Well I do care, now calm down and release him."
I could practically hear Xavier's teeth grind as he released Sebastian and moved to stand next to me again. I glared up at him but he merely chose to ignore me and instead focus on the now grinning Sebastian, wait grinning?
Sebastian smoothed out his white shirt that he was wearing and continued to grin at us as if he hadn't just been throttled.
"My lady, no need to look so shocked. You see I'm quite used to that kind of behaviour from Xavier."
I just continued to stare at him alarmed, mostly because I feared whatever he did next might tempt Xavier into killing him. Xavier continued to stand silently next to me, a ticking time bomb I thought.
"You see Xavier here is my dear cousin. We were the best of friends in our childhood, almost like brothers. We still are, am I right Xavier?" Sebastian continued.
Yeah sure, 'brothers', Xavier didn't answer him but instead remained silent.
"Ah no matter, Xavier is still upset he'll get over it soon enough. Now where was I...Ah yes, My lady, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Alpha Sebastian of the Waning Crescent pack."
I've heard of that name before, where have I hea-, ahah, the Waning Crescent pack is the second largest pack in the world. The first being Xavier's seeing as he is the Alpha King.
I was further shocked, this, this guy now standing here in front of me grinning from ear to ear after almost being killed is the Alpha of the esteemed Waning Crescent pack?
I don't believe it.
"Oh, I've heard great things about your pack." I said not really sure how to reply as I was still reeling from the news and worried about Xavier.
"Sebastian would you kindly leave, I have things to discuss with my mate." Xavier's cold words cut our conversation off.
"But of course Your Royal Highness, how rude of me, I forgot I interrupted your important discussion earlier on."
Sebastian winked at me before he turned and strode out the door. Well that was certainly an interesting experience, and here I thought I was the only one immune to Xavier's whole 'I can kill you with one look' persona.
"Ah...what just happened?"
"Sebastian just happened that's what."
"He...he's interesting."
"He's a goddamn pain in my arse, been that way ever since we were children."
"Were you truly like brothers?"
"Perhaps at one point in time but things changed."
"Like what?"
"It's not important Victoria, especially not now, we have bigger things to worry about."
"Oh, okay," I said slightly disappointed even though I knew what he said was right. It was just that I felt as if there were still a lot of things I didn't know about Xavier or his past.
"I think I'll go make sure the packs are all settled in alright."
"Okay," Xavier replied as he went around to the table and sat down. He began flipping through the paperwork that he was reading earlier on and so I took that as my cue to leave.
As I made my way towards the door Xavier's voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Victoria."
"Yes," I said, turning to look back at him. His grey eyes pinned me to my spot.
"Don't go near Sebastian, he's nothing but trouble."
"The-the Spell casters, they attacked the Blood Wood pack that were on their way over here."
