The Male Protagonist’s Daughter
Chapter 20.2
Luo Shuyan didn’t know that Shen Yan was laughing over the fact that she was eating a lot in his head. She looked towards her father and asked in a small voice, “Papa, who was that pretty lady?”
Luo Tianyuan didn’t expect her daughter to be so perceptive. He paused and explained, “She was a friend of mine from university, and she happened to be working near the hotel.”
Luo Shuyan wasn’t a young kid who was easily fooled. She didn’t believe anything that the lady said.
She could tell that the lady fancied her father.
And why would she say so? Her kindergarten teacher used to like her father as well. The teacher was particularly caring towards her; when the other children sweated through their clothes, the teacher would never go to help them. However, that never happened to her. When she took an afternoon nap, the teacher would even sit next to her and hold the fan in front of her. She was very gentle towards her.
She recalled the way the teacher looked at her father, and it was the same as the lady from just now.
There was no way this was merely a coincidence.
Luo Shuyan continued, “I don’t think that’s possible.”
“…”
“Papa, do you like Aunty Song, or the lady from today?”
Luo Shuyan was truly curious.
However, she didn’t realize that her father would feel extremely awkward when being asked such a personal question by his own daughter.
Even if Luo Tianyuan couldn’t care less about his love life, he felt uncomfortable when his daughter stared at him with her beady eyes in anticipation for an answer.
Just as Luo Tianyuan was trying to figure out how to answer her question, the young boy opposite her laughed and said, “Luo Shuyan, do you not know shame?”
“Shen Yan, you were listening to our conversation. Don’t you find yourself shameful as well?”
“I didn’t listen on purpose. With how loud your voice is, I’m sure the whole cabin heard you.”
“Absolute bullshit! I’m talking to my Papa, so don’t interrupt us!”
“You’re so young, what nonsense are you thinking about everyday? I don’t think you’re as focused when it comes to your homework.”
……
…………
After that, Luo Tianyuan slowly reached up and covered his own ears.
The two kids loved to quarrel. Him and Shen Qingruo usually dealt with such situations calmly and didn’t side with either of their children. As long as they weren’t going overboard, the adults wouldn’t step in and pull them apart.
Luo Tianyuan was already used to their bickering. He was thankful for Shen Yan because his daughter no longer continued to ask about which “aunt” he preferred.
–
The next day, they arrived in Ning City in the afternoon.
Luo Shuyan didn’t sleep well on the train thanks to the loud snoring of the middle-aged man in the cabin next to theirs. Plus, she was someone who had to sleep in her own bed to sleep well, so she hadn’t rested well in the hotel either. Thus, as soon as she had dinner, she went to bed, which was an hour earlier than usual.
Halfway through her sleep, Luo Shuyan woke up because she needed the toilet. She groggily looked at her bedside clock and realized that it was already 11PM.
She couldn’t believe it was already 11.
She realized that she’d kicked her slippers underneath her bed. So, she decided to go to the toilet barefooted. When she opened her bedroom door and walked towards the bathroom, she heard people conversing. She instinctively slowed down and came back to her senses. She pricked up her ears to listen and realized her dad’s voice was coming from the kitchen.
Luo Tianyun had been busy with work ever since he reached home. He hadn’t eaten much for dinner and was now making instant noodles for himself. He was talking on the phone with Song Qianjin while he boiled the water for the noodles.
“I’ve already signed the agreement. I believe in He Rong’s vision. Plus, I can’t put all my eggs in one basket. Since the factory has been making good profit over the past two years and our joint venture with the company overseas has been going well, I figured that it would make sense to use some of our free cash flows to invest in other industries.” Luo Tianyuan leaned against the kitchen sink and continued, “Don’t worry, I’ve already told him that I’ll only be investing 1 million at the start, and will be transferring the money to him in 3 batches. I’m also pleased with the shareholding I’ll be getting.”
Song Qianjin worked overseas and with foreigners often, so he was considerably knowledgeable. Despite that, he truly admired Luo Tianyuan; he felt like Luo Tianyuan was much better than him at looking into the future and seeing great potential. As usual, he decided to support his decision. “It’s up to you. We happen to have some cash coming in from the company overseas, so we should have just enough to make the payments.”
“Mn.” “I’ve also decided to buy a bungalow in Jing City. Shuyan seemed to like it, so I’ll buy it. I managed to settle two issues during this trip, not bad if I may say so myself.”
“How much dowry are you trying to prepare ahead of time for your young daughter?”
Dowry? Bringing up such a thing to him was like stabbing him in the heart.
“F*ck off,” Luo Tianyuan scolded.
The two men continued to talk while Luo Shuyan, who accidentally overheard her father’s conversation, was in shock.
She pinched her elbow —
Ouch!
She wasn’t dreaming?
That would mean that she was “new money” after all…
