/38/ Brainwashed (Part 2)

"Stop all this madness, Cairo."

"What a surprise, my sweet Karen."

"You're supposed to be dead. I saw it!"

He smiled and slowly walked towards me. "Not all things perceived by the eyes are real, my love. I didn't die... but my spare."

"Impossible---"

"Your eyes deceived you. My brother Pacifico died; the other half of me was the one who died, Karen."

"NO!"

"Yes." He stopped when he's almost in front of me. "Aren't you happy that I'm alive? Don't you love me anymore?"

"I'm not in love with a beast, Cairo!" I stared at him but I couldn't see the eyes he used to have. Those eyes used to prick my heart and made me fall in love. It actually also deceived me. "But I'm here now to come with you, to the association. I'm just begging you to return them to normal."

He turned his back on me and picked up a white rose-like flower from his table.

"Do you know that drugs produced from this flower are effective? Through science it was discovered that no matter who inhaled this flower's aroma, he will be controlled and hypnotized. I just thought of using the people here for the experiment, to test how strong its effect is. Don't worry, they will still return to their old selves."

"That ruthless and gluttonous association made that evil drug!? You're all not humane!"

"Well, we're really not human after all, Karen." He faced me again while holding that flower. "We're Peculiars. And by the way, Memoire aimed to conquer everything, remember? Thanks to Dr. Richard who developed our abilities when we're still youngsters. Now more than mind reading, I now have the power to control minds, but it can only be used one person at a time. For instance... Your heroic student, George Morris the postcognist, is my latest example."

"Enough, Cairo! I am already here. I know I'm your target so take me to that association now and let go of them."

"I can read people's mind, Karen. I am afraid that you're not aware that you're not an exception. No matter what you do, your mind is still open for me to scour. And the good news is... I no longer need you." I tried my best not to show any trace of fear but I failed. "Karen, you no longer possess the power. Your powerful eyes are no longer with you. And it's all because you're protecting Dr. Richard Morie's daughter."

Author's note: I know each of you is being puzzled by the train of events so now I'm hesitating whether to post update since I don't know if I should still push these things. Haha Lol. I don't know what's running on the readers' minds, if they still understood this or what. I only want the readers to think, because in this story, (TPT) everything is connected. In other words, everything from the prologue up to the latest chapter is connected. All ideas I've revealed and those which will be introduced in the future have something to do with the past, present and future of this story's timeline.
