Chapter 324 - Second Arc Part II: Beginning Of The Past

-The past explains how I got here, but the future is up to me-

"Hey, do you believe in your past lives?"

"Why do you ask?"

"It says that, if you did something in your past life, it will reflect on your future"

"Is that true? What if you did awful? Will it cause a bad thing in your future too?"

"I don't know, but some say that when you do something bad in your past, it will affect your future"

"What will happen if you can't move on from your past?"

The young scholars talking to each other in the manor courtyard stopped and bowed their heads when they saw the new faces together with the lady. They just finished class and decided to talk about their latest lesson.

One of the kids jumped and clung around Lady Daiyu's waist. "Sister! Sister! When are you going to teach us again?" the little girl exclaimed.

The lady crouched down and pinched the little girl's cheeks. "Sister, have visitors today, let's do it the next day," Daiyu smiled and gave the girl a pat on the head.

The other kids bowed their heads to the people behind the Lady, showing respect to her visitors. Then they silently walked away from the open yard surrounded by single story-rooms.

The lady lifted her fan and gazed at Xianyu with a smile in her eyes. "Sorry for the inconvenience, they are the scholars of my father," she said.

Xianyu, together with Sun Wei, Qi Zhou and Rouhan, bowed their heads. They walked forward and reached the room on the western side. There were two attendants waiting for them. They bowed their heads and opened the door.

Xianyu followed behind Rouhan. They removed their shoes as Lady Daiyu welcomed them to her own manor. Since they were going to talk privately, she ordered the attendants to just wait outside after serving them some tea.

They all sat across the square table and stared at each other.

Sun Wei and Qi Zhou looked at each other and lowered their heads. Both are hesitant to start the conversation and ask some questions. Before leaving Lady Daiyu that day, she was still unstable and shaking, who knows what will happen if they open the topic again.

Finally, the lady herself didn't let the silence deepen anymore. She cleared her throat and spoke. "My father, the royal minister, took me to the greatest therapist in the village, it's not a problem anymore…"

Being seen through, Sun Wei lifted his head but did not dare to look at her. "We are very relieved to hear that, milady,"

"May we please know more information about your deceased friend?" It was Rouhan who spoke, with a low and mannered tone.

Lady Daiyu stays still, but you can see the loneliness in her eyes. "Mei Shin," she mumbled, must be referring to her friend's name. "They abused her while working inside the royal palace,"

Hearing this, Xianyu clenched his fist. If only he had found this earlier when he was inside the palace, he could have helped Mei Shin. "What do you mean by abuse?" he couldn't help but asked.

Lady Daiyu clenched her chest, "She told me that..those bratty imperial guards harassed her every time" her voice cracked but this time, she didn't cry anymore.

"Why did she keep this as a secret?"

The lady lifted her head and looked at Xianyu with pitiful eyes. "She tried to ask for help, but the other court ladies only laughed at her and bullied her." There was a little anger in her voice.

Xianyu didn't ask anymore. He pondered, if Mei Shin asked help from the other servants, then she should have encountered Li Jing. They could have at least helped each other. He doesn't want to doubt Lady Daiyu, but it seems like his thoughts are not pairing with her.

While spending days inside the palace, he would sneak out secretly to watch the guards and the other court ladies. He didn't notice any anomaly or malice between the two groups. Besides, he sure knew that Yi Lin would not tolerate this kind of thing, he even saw how the other guards would tremble in fear in front of the prince.

"I know it's my fault for encouraging her to avenge, but I couldn't help it!" Lady Daiyu once again became unsettle

Qi Zhou saw the lady going restless again, so he tried to comfort him. "Lady Daiyu, please calm down a little, we are not questioning you about what's right and wrong," he said solemnly.

Sun Wei pushed a glass of water towards the lady, "If you don't want to answer, we will not force you to do so," he also tried to lower his voice.

Xianyu's face once again turned tight, but he kept his lips close tight. Inside his mind, he thought; if Lady Daiyu was the daughter of the royal minister, she could help Mei Shin by telling the case to her father. She had the upper hand here. The royal minister was acquainted with the royal family, so it's much easier for them to solve this.

Then why did they end up in a chaos where they needed to steal the red pill and blame those palace guards who harassed her? Wouldn't it be easier if they just told the Minister?

The royal minister can immediately report it to the emperor or to the prince. Then what's the reason for getting the red pill? Did Mei Shin know about it?

Right now, Xianyu couldn't think of another reason for this matter. He evaluated everything inside his mind and tried to figure out his own answer. Why would Mei Shin do something that will risk her life?

Is the medicinal hall open to let whoever enter freely? There are so many medicines inside, Xianyu knew it because he had been there. Then why did it have to be the red pill? Is it by chance or intentional?

Xianyu widened his eyes and shot a glance at Lady Daiyu. This question came up in his mind as soon as he reached his conclusion. 'Could it be that she's lying' he thought.
