“Let the customers in.”
A little girl near the door stood up hurriedly from her seat and opened the heavy glass door.
Soon, a middle-aged man who looked somewhat fat walked in. Under his neatly trimmed mustache, his thick lips looked like worms.
His unbuttoned collar even revealed some straggly chest hair, and a few gold rings barely clung to his stubby fingers.
And that fat face, which was still full of greed even after being groomed, made Bronya feel disgusted from the bottom of her heart at first sight.
She had killed countless people like him when she was the world's number one killer, the Ural Silver Wolf.
The man waved his hand, and a woman next to him, dressed in seductive clothes, handed him a document.
"Ms. Bronya, I've reviewed the operating agency proposal you sent me, but our company feels that the game you designed and developed isn't suitable for the current gaming market."
The man adjusted his glasses that were about to fall off his nose, and then through the thick glass, he shot a disgusting look straight at Bronya who was sitting on the other side of the long table.
"If you don't want to be an agent, there's no need to force us. We'll find other agents. There's no need to make excuses about not being suitable for the market."
Bronya had no intention of flattering and directly stated her position as the person in charge of development.
It seemed as if he had anticipated Bronya's tough attitude at the moment, but the capital in his hands still allowed him to sit in front of her fearlessly and look directly into her gray eyes.
"Our company, Zero>Dream Flag (Three) Spirit G Silk Nine Qi, and your company are old partners. I believe President Bronya is also aware of our ability to control the market. If a rift in trust appears so easily..."
The man held his thick chin with his fingers and looked at Bronya in front of him with a smug look on his face.
"I think this loss is foreseeable for your company."
The current situation is that this agency has helped sell several games designed by Bronya and is one of the subsidiaries of Walter's game company.
He could be said to be the exclusive agent arranged by Walter for Bronya, but later he separated and became independent.
The original friendly person in charge has been replaced by this man who obviously has no passion for games and only cares about grabbing market profits.
"Hmm, so what do you want?"
Bronya crossed her arms and stared at the man with her usual disgusted eyes.
It seemed that they had finally talked about the topic they wanted to hear, and the corner of the man's mouth revealed an unconcealable disgusting smile.
"Hahaha, no wonder President Bronya is so young and promising. She's just straightforward. Then I won't hide it anymore."
He straightened his inappropriate collar and asked his assistant to hand a document to Bronya.
"These conditions... you really dare to propose..."
"Yes, our company feels that the profits from our long-term cooperation with your company are not significant. Given our role in developing your company's game market, I believe it is reasonable to increase our company's profit share of the game revenue."
The man adjusted his glasses again, and the thick lenses reflected white light.
"That's impossible. The developer keeps the lion's share of the profits. That's clearly written in the contract."
Bronya refused to back down.
"Then I can only regretfully end our partnership, Mr. President."
The man pretended to be regretful and stood up. His fat body pushed the chair back a lot when he stood up.
"We are no longer able to distribute your latest masterpiece. Please find someone else."
The man turned around and was about to leave, but as if he remembered something, he turned back when he reached the door and looked at Bronya with lustful eyes.
"Of course, if Mr. President changes his mind, please come to me in person tonight and we can have a drink and talk about our business..."
"you!!"
Bronya stood up angrily, an extremely rare emotional fluctuation, simply because the man in front of her was so shameless that even the icy president's fair face turned red.
However, it was of no avail. Market operation was her weak spot. At this moment, Gao Su pushed the door open and splashed the water in the cup on his face:
"Get lost! We're publishing this game ourselves. We don't need you as our agent. You're just a stray dog surviving on the power of anti-entropy collapse. How dare you kill your master?"
The head of the agency company, who was scolded by him, turned red in the face. It was because Gao Su's words had touched his lungs:
"Captain, give me a chance."
"Chance? Ha, didn't Bronya already give it to you? If you want to tear it apart, I think your company has no reason to exist anymore."
Gao Su sat down where Bronya had stood up. Whether the reorganization of Destiny was necessary was still under discussion, but the reorganization of Anti-Entropy was imminent.
There are too many companies that are sucking blood from the anti-entropy. It was not a big deal during the collapse period, but in the peaceful period, the problem becomes prominent:
"By the way, remember to pay the taxes. I remember that in North America, tax evasion is a felony. Someone from the IRS is waiting for you at the airport."
"As you know, IRS is the abbreviation of the Internal Revenue Service."
The fat middle-aged man was stunned for a moment, and then he ran away without even caring about the people who were accompanying him. Seeing this, the people who were accompanying him hurriedly chased after him.
"Okay, go and do your own thing."
Seeing this, Gao Su knocked on the table and asked the employees to return to their seats. The employees were happy to see this, but when they left, he habitually used Yu Duchen to erase the employees' memories of this.
After all, the benefits and salary offered by Mihoyo were quite generous, and they also knew what to say and what not to say. At this moment, Gao Su saw a figure and called out to him:
"Hey, Xiao Liu at the front desk, please stay for a moment. I have something to discuss with you. Please go to the president's office and wait for a moment."
After Xiao Liu at the front desk left, Gao Su looked at the contract on the table:
"Look, isn't the test just beginning?"
"You mean, the game agent thing?"
Bronya also found it unusual. Who would dare to touch the tiger's whiskers under such circumstances?
"Hmm, I'm afraid this isn't a test of our bottom line. After all, Anti-Entropy has always been a loose organization, so the emergence of a company like this isn't surprising. After all, Anti-Entropy is just the leader. This is what happens when democracy goes too far."
Bronya sighed at Gao Su's words. The drawbacks of anti-entropy have always been this way. Otherwise, Cocolia Clonewalter would not have attempted to seize the power of anti-entropy.
"Silver Wolf of the Ural, do you want to accept the mission?"
Gao Su logged onto the dark web and posted a bounty notice on the assassin website. Bronya frowned as she looked at the bounty notice on her assassin account, which had been dormant for a long time since she joined St. Freya's Academy.
"How did you find my account?"
"Can you take it?"
Bronya nodded in disgust.
"I feel sick just looking at that face."
"In that case, shall I take action?"
Gao Su smiled as he looked down at the car speeding by. He raised his hand, and the Third God Key appeared in the captain's hand. Bronya saw this and quickly grabbed the captain.
"Are you crazy? Making such a big deal in a downtown area? Sniping with the Third God Key?"
"Don't worry, there won't be an explosion."
The bullet soaked in the Black Abyss was loaded into the sniper rifle transformed from the Third Divine Key, and then activated by Gao Su:
"Now, we can focus on our own affairs, Bronya."
"It's better to do less of this kind of thing. After all, we live in a society ruled by law!"
However, Gao Su smiled disdainfully at Bronya's words:
"When will the world-famous killer, the Ural Silver Wolf, start to learn to obey the law?"
"Of course, after joining St. Freya's Academy! And, there's obviously a better way to solve this problem, right? We assassins kill on commission, not just out of pleasure like this."
Bronya glared at him. If Kiana and Mei knew what happened today, she wondered how they would scold the captain for killing someone just because of a provocation.
Even if he was sent to the police station by the FBI, it would be better than the current treatment:
"That makes sense, but what does it have to do with me if someone dies of organ failure? This is why I've always been against reorganizing the New Mandate of Heaven. There are always people waiting for the big fish, the whale, to fall."
Bronya was unable to refute for a moment:
"Forget it, let's deal with the game."
Volume 1: Did we really defeat the collapse? Chapter 11: Xiao Liu's mission and the Daughter of the Sea, please witness it.
"Well, I intend to promote you to general manager, Xiao Liu. From now on, you will be responsible for these matters."
Gao Su pushed some documents from the desk in front of Xiao Liu, who was still working at the reception desk. Looking at the overwhelming wealth, Xiao Liu did not refuse but nodded.
In Changkong City, in the temporary shelter, Xier's room, she looked at the storybook in her hand and murmured a story called "The Daughter of the Sea":
Far out at sea, the water is as blue as the petals of the most beautiful cornflower, and at the same time, as clear as the brightest glass. Yet it's so deep, so deep that no anchor chain can reach the bottom. To reach the surface from the bottom of the ocean, you'd have to link up many church spires one on top of the other. Down there, the people of the sea live.
There was music and singing. As dusk grew darker, lanterns of all colors lit up. They looked like flags from around the world floating in the air. The little mermaid swam toward the ship's window. Whenever the waves lifted her up, she could see through the mirror-like windowpanes and see many men in gorgeous costumes standing inside. But the most beautiful among them was the prince with large black eyes. He was undoubtedly no more than sixteen years old. Today was his birthday, and that was why it was so lively.
The sailors were dancing on the deck, and when the prince came out, more than a hundred rockets were fired into the sky.
The sky was lit up like day, and the little mermaid was so frightened that she quickly sank to the bottom of the water. But when she finally raised her head, it seemed as if all the stars were falling down toward her. She had never seen such a display of fireworks. Huge suns hissed around her, and huge, dazzling fish leaped through the blue air. All this was reflected in the clear, calm sea. The ship was so brightly lit that even the smallest ropes could be seen, and the people on board could see them even more clearly. Oh, how beautiful the young prince was! As the music faded into the brilliant night, he shook hands with the sailors, laughed, and smiled...
It was very late in the night, but the little mermaid could not take her eyes off the ship and the beautiful Prince.
The little mermaid thought it was an interesting voyage, but the sailors did not think so. The ship was now making a splintering noise; its thick planks were bent by the crashing waves. The mast had broken in half like a reed.
Then the boat began to tilt and water rushed into the cabin. Only then did the little mermaid realize that they were in danger. She also had to be careful of the beams and wreckage floating in the water.
The sky immediately grew dark, and she could see nothing. But as lightning flashed, the sky became bright again, allowing her to see everyone on board. Now, each was trying to find a way out. She paid special attention to the prince. As the ship broke apart and sank into the depths of the sea, she saw him. She was immediately overjoyed because he was now coming to her. But she remembered that humans could not live in water, and that he could not enter her father's palace unless he was dead.
No, he must not die! So she swam among the floating beams and planks, never thinking that they might crush her to death. She sank deep into the water, then rose high above the waves, until at last she reached the Prince. In the raging sea, he had no strength to float again. His arms and legs began to fail him. His beautiful eyes had closed. If the little mermaid had not arrived in time, he would have drowned.
She lifted his head out of the water and let the waves carry her and him wherever they wanted to go.
By daybreak, the storm had passed. Not a scrap of the ship remained. The bright red sun rose, shining brilliantly on the water. It seemed to breathe life into the Prince's face. But his eyes remained closed.
The little mermaid kissed his handsome forehead and brushed back his long, wet hair. He looked very much like the marble statue she had seen in her little garden under the sea. She kissed him again, hoping he would wake up.
Bells began to ring from the great white building, and young women came out through the garden. The little mermaid swam far out to sea, behind some large rocks that rose out of the water. She covered her hair and breast with sea foam so that no one could see her little face. She watched to see if anyone would come to the poor Prince.
She had always been a quiet and thoughtful child, and now she was even more so. Her sisters asked her what she had seen when she first rose to the surface of the sea, but she could not tell them.
Many an evening and morning she rose to the surface of the water and swam back to the place where she had left the prince. She saw the fruits in the garden ripen and be picked; she saw the snow on the tops of the high mountains melt; but she could not see the prince.
So she always returned home with a greater sense of misery. Her only comfort was to sit in her little garden, holding in her arms the beautiful marble statue that resembled the prince. But she no longer tended her flowers. They seemed to grow in the wilderness, covering the ground with their long stems and leaves, tangled with the branches, making the place look very dark.
Now she knew where the Prince lived. She had spent many evenings and nights on the water there. She had swum far out toward the land, farther than any of her sisters had dared to go. Indeed, she had even swum into the narrow river, right under the magnificent marble balcony, its long shadow reflected on the water. There she sat, gazing at the young Prince, who still thought he was alone in the moonlight.
Many an evening she saw him sailing to the sound of music on the magnificent ship with its many flags flying. She would peek up at him from among the green rushes, and when the wind blew up her long silver veil, anyone who saw it would have thought it was a swan spreading its wings.
She gradually began to love humans and to long to live among them. Their world seemed so much larger than her own. Indeed, they could sail the seas in ships and climb towering mountains, and their lands, with their forests and fields, stretched out so far that she could not see the end of them. There was so much she wanted to know, but her sisters could not answer all her questions. So she turned to her grandmother. She did know quite a bit about the "upper world"—a fitting name she gave to the lands above.
"If men do not drown," asked the little mermaid, "will they live forever? Will they die as we who live in the sea do?"
"That's true," the old woman said. "They too will die, and their life span is even shorter than ours. We may live up to three hundred years, but when our time here is over, we become nothing but foam on the water. Man, on the other hand, has a soul that lives forever, even when the body turns to dust. It rises toward the clear heavens, toward the shining stars. Just as we rise to the surface of the water and behold the world of men, so they rise to mysterious and magnificent places that we will never see."
"Why can't we have an immortal soul?" the little mermaid asked sadly. "If I could become a human and enter the heavenly world, even if I could live there for just one day, I would give up the hundreds of years I could live here." "You must never even think of that," said the old woman. "Compared to the people above, our life here is much happier and better!"
"Then I shall die and float on the water as foam. Will I never again hear the music of the waves, see the beautiful flowers and the crimson sun? Is there no way for me to obtain an eternal soul?"
"No!" said the old woman. "Only when a man loves you, and considers you dearer than his own father and mother; only when he sets all his thoughts and affections on you; only when he lets the priest place his right hand in yours, and promises to be faithful to you now and forever, will his soul be transferred to you, and you will have a share of human happiness."
The little mermaid sighed and looked at her fish tail sadly.
"Let us have some fun!" said the old lady. "Let us dance and dance for the three hundred years we have left to live. After all, that is a long time. Let us have a ball at the palace tonight!"
The little mermaid sang most beautifully of all. They all applauded her, and for a moment she felt very happy, for she knew that her voice was the most beautiful either on land or in the sea. But then her thoughts returned to the world above.
She could not forget the handsome prince, nor the sorrow she felt for not having his immortal soul. So she stole away from her father's palace, and while it was filled with song and joy, she sat down in her little garden, feeling sorrowful. Suddenly she heard the sound of a horn from the water. She thought, "He must be sailing down there! He whom I love more than my father and mother; he whom I miss so much; in whose hands I place the happiness of my life. I would sacrifice everything for him and an immortal soul."
On the boat, voices and activity began again. She saw the prince and his beautiful bride searching for her. They gazed mournfully at the rolling foam, as if they knew she had thrown herself into the waves. In her shadow, she kissed the bride's forehead and smiled at the prince. Then, along with the other children of the air, she rode on a rosy cloud and ascended into the sky.
The little mermaid stopped at the edge of the forest, terrified. Her heart leaped with fear, and she almost turned back. But she remembered the Prince and the human soul, and her courage returned. She tied her long, flowing hair tightly around her head, so that the polyps could not grab hold of her. Pressing her hands tightly to her breast, she leaped forward among the hideous polyps like a fish in the water, while the polyps only waved their long, limp arms and fingers behind her.
Now she came to a slimy clearing in the forest. There, huge, fat water snakes writhe, revealing their hideous, pale yellow bellies. In the center of the field stands a house built of dead people's bones. There, the sea witch sits, feeding a toad from her mouth, just as we might feed a canary with sugar. She calls the hideous, fat water snakes her chickens and lets them crawl all over her fat, flabby chest.
"I know what you want," said the sea witch. "After the sun comes up tomorrow, I won't be able to help you anymore. You'll have to wait a year. I can brew you a potion to drink. Take it with you and swim to land before sunrise. Sit on the beach and drink it. Then your tail will split in two and shrink into what humans call beautiful legs. But it will hurt—it'll be like a sharp knife stabbing you in the side. Everyone who sees you will say you're the most beautiful child they've ever seen!"
"I can bear it," the little mermaid said in a trembling voice, and then she thought of the Prince and her own wish of gaining an immortal soul.
"But remember," said the witch, "if you once take on human form, you can never become a mermaid again, and you can never again descend into the water and return to your sister's or your father's palace. And if you do not win the prince's love, if you cannot make him forget his father and mother for your sake, love you with all his heart, and send for the priest to join your hands in marriage, you will not have an immortal soul.
"But you must give me a reward," said the witch, "and it is not a trifling thing that I ask. Your voice is the most beautiful of all the people who live in the depths of the sea. No doubt you want to enchant him with it, but you must give it to me."
"But if you take my voice away," said the little mermaid, "what would be left for me?"
"You have a beautiful figure," the witch replied, "and a light step and expressive eyes. With these, you can easily charm a man's heart. Well, have you lost your courage? Stick out your little tongue, and I will cut it off as a reward, and you can also have this powerful potion..."
After closing the book, Xier felt the quantum aura growing heavier, and she stretched out her hand with some worry.
