From clothing stores to jewelry stores, from mobile phone stores to supermarkets, there is almost no place that the zero-yuan shopping army does not sweep.

It is said that at that time, the only store in New York that no one robbed was the bookstore - this shows how deeply anti-intellectualism is ingrained in people's minds.

In short, New York's police, homeless people, zero-dollar shoppers, and gangs are bound to fight and kill each other every night. It is truly a scene of vitality and competition. I am afraid that even the African savannah is not as competitive as New York City in the 1920s of the 21st century.

The last time New York was so vibrant and full of life was probably during the Great Depression, right?

By comparison, New York City's security during the Cold War wasn't as peaceful as it was in the 1990s, when Mayor Rudy Giuliani was working hard to bring peace to the city. But at least the wealthy and ordinary citizens still dared to go out and about at night, which was far better than in the 21st century.

Phili took Marita for a walk on the streets of Manhattan, bought some new clothes, and went to Chinatown for a Chinese meal. Then he found that many Vietnamese Chinese and authentic Vietnamese had become bodyguards and thugs in New York's Chinatown!

That’s right, poor guys from war-torn areas have no other skills except fighting and killing. Aren’t they the best reserve forces for the underworld?

Generally speaking, the martial virtues of Asian immigrants in Europe and the West have been gradually eroding. Early Chinese and Japanese immigrants were known for their numerous gangs and aggressive behavior, but as time went on, they became increasingly ruthless. Japan's economy rose the earliest, but the strength of the Japanese underworld declined the fastest. Korean immigrants, thanks to universal military service, were able to stand up to the underworld in the late 20th century, but their decline in the new century was evident: With the widespread admiration for the "pretty boy," Korean men were preoccupied with makeup and plastic surgery, leaving no room for martial arts training.

In the beginning, Chinese gangs had a lot of martial ethics introduced by poor and tyrannical mainlanders, and they had some prestige, but they soon became lacking in martial ethics.

By the 1920s of the 21st century, not only had Japanese yakuza groups declined to the point where they had to rely entirely on old men wielding swords, but Chinese gangs around the world were also generally experiencing a rapid decline in their martial ethics, to the point where they were beaten to a pulp by Vietnamese gangs - after becoming wealthy, they gradually became unable to fight anymore!

So, by introducing Vietnamese people to the United States in advance at this time and space, did it also allow Americans to feel the shock of Vietnamese gangs in advance?

While thinking this, Fili took Marita back to the hotel where they were staying. He was wondering whether to have a midnight snack or take a shower and rest.

Suddenly, a large number of panicked citizens rushed towards them from a distance like headless flies, knocking passers-by who were unable to react in time to the ground. Behind them, there were faint flashes of fire and gunshots, as well as shrill sirens and shouts of curses.

Seeing this, Fili quickly found a flower bed to jump onto and looked in the direction of the noise. Suddenly, his eyes went dark and he couldn't help cursing out loud: "Fuck! Is this really the 1960s? Why are black people in New York going out to buy things for free now?"

"Although I don't understand what zero-dollar shopping means, sir, but the niggers have indeed been causing trouble in the streets frequently in the past two years!"

The hotel security guard, while trying to maintain order at the door with a stick, said to Fili, "Would you and your female companion like to come in quickly? Sir, for safety reasons, we are about to close the door and stop serving the public!"

Author's words: PS: In the 1970s and 1980s, New York's public security was like the scene in "The Devil Wears Prada", but at least people still dared to go out at night.

In the 1990s, Mayor Giuliani's crackdown on crime brought New York into its best period ever.

Speaking of which, why was it that New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco couldn't do what Mayor Giuliani was able to do back then?

Just because Giuliani is a Republican, and now the mayors of major cities are basically Democrats?

Chapter 304: The Chaotic Scene of Early Zero-Dollar Shopping by African Americans in the United States

Although black Americans in the 21st century are well-known for their zero-dollar shopping, this does not mean that black Americans during the Cold War did not engage in zero-dollar shopping.

In fact, black protests and riots in American cities have been going on for three or four generations, starting in the 1950s and 1960s and continuing until the beginning of the 21st century.

As for African Americans in the past, they weren't exactly well-behaved. Rather, white Americans were overly militant and didn't really treat them as human beings. They would hang or burn a few Black people to build up their courage and just for fun, even burning down entire Black neighborhoods for fun. Consequently, under the weight of racial discrimination and persecution, African Americans were forced to keep their tails between their legs, afraid to speak or act rashly, which is why they seemed to be more well-behaved.

In fact, the anger in the hearts of these African American ancestors was probably much more violent than that of their later black descendants! Because the white racists and American police at that time were really much more inhumane than those in the 21st century. They were too lazy to make excuses for extortion and persecution!

However, after World War II, with the confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, a major showdown between the two ideologies began. If the United States continued to maintain racial discrimination and racial persecution, it would lose a lot of points in international influence. If it continued to engage in racial discrimination, how could the United States unite countries of color?

What's more, the non-WASP elements among white Americans, that is, Jews, Irish, Italians, Eastern Europeans, etc., who are traditionally considered only "half white" in the United States, also want to take the opportunity to use the banner of freedom, human rights and progress to push the poor and brave black people to rush to the front as cannon fodder, while they hide in the back and take sides, competing for power and profit from the Southern rednecks and "Boston Brahmins" who are the "real American whites"!

Therefore, starting from the late period of President Eisenhower's administration, African Americans in the United States gradually became restless under the instigation and protection of some progressive forces. They held large-scale rallies and marches at every turn and began to use disturbances to fight for more rights.

During the Kennedy era, President Kennedy, who was Irish, used his position as the "king of the country" to manipulate the American violent apparatus, forcibly restraining it and preventing it from suppressing black riots. Instead, he used it to deal with the unrest of white racists.

After President Kennedy's death, his successor, President Johnson, was from the conservative Democratic Party. However, the progressive trend had already become dominant, so he had no choice but to continue along President Kennedy's path, further promoting the racial equality movement and suppressing white racism.

For example, in a speech to both the Senate and the House on Capitol Hill, demanding changes to voting laws to ensure voting rights for people of color, President Johnson asserted that the blood and tears shed by a new generation of black Americans for social justice held a glorious meaning. "For not only the Negro, but indeed all of us, must overcome the defects of bigotry and injustice inherited from our forefathers. And we shall overcome them."

As a result, the American blacks, encouraged and indulged, naturally started a huge riot in the 1960s.

The large-scale rallies of hundreds of thousands of black people organized by Martin Luther King were also protected and assisted by the official level.

But the problem is, the quality of black people in America...has always been like that.

Just because Martin Luther King was able to organize orderly and peaceful rallies and demonstrations doesn't mean other black leaders have that kind of control.

In fact, after Martin Luther King's success and instant fame, black people across the United States were eager to try and follow his example. However, their lack of control over the marching crowds ultimately led to riots and looting, which greatly tarnished the image of the black civil rights movement.

Even more devastating, with the surge of the Black Lives Matter movement, racism seems even more pronounced than before. Yale University history professor Vann Woodward stated, "In schools, blacks and whites have less contact today than they did a generation ago." Martin Luther King Jr., in Chicago, was forced to declare with dismay, "I haven't seen racial hatred as deep in Mississippi or Alabama as I have in Chicago."

 And in the south

The situation was even more dire. White backlash reached a fever pitch. Since President Kennedy's election, the KKK had gained unprecedented numbers of members. Even during the Reconstruction era after the Civil War, there had never been such a surge. Local white doctors and nurses, in direct violation of the Hippocratic Oath, openly refused to treat Black people. White police officers even openly wore badges with the word "Never" on them, signifying their refusal to grant Black people equal status. They even told reporters, "Once this blows over, these niggers won't have a good life."

Of course, if it were just these insignificant performance arts, black people might not take it seriously.

But the problem is that white Americans these days generally still have a strong martial spirit and can empty their magazines when facing black people without taking them seriously.

According to Martin Luther King Jr.'s statistics, of the 500 million black voters of voting age in the southern United States at the time, 300 million were unregistered. This was due to white people using force to coerce blacks into voting. He cited Selma, Alabama, as an example: out of 1.5 eligible black voters, only 325 registered, while 9300 of the 1.4 eligible white voters did.

So, in January of this year, Dr. King, as usual, led a group of black people to Selma to organize voter registration. Upon arriving at the hotel, they were, as usual, beaten and kicked by a white racist. Then, a local black person who bravely tried to register to vote was murdered by a group of white people. Instead of pursuing the murderers, the police used force to suppress the protesting black people, resulting in even more casualties among local black people.

The problem was that the black people were followed by television photographers, and the videos they filmed of police beating black people spread across the country overnight.

This aroused even more terrifying resistance, causing the anger of black Americans and their white sympathizers to erupt like magma in a volcano.

Faced with this unfair situation, the attitudes of black people continued to change. The moderates led by Martin Luther King gradually fell out of favor, and radical militants began to rise. They shouted "Most white Americans are bad guys" and organized the "Defense Deacons Corps" to fight the KKK and the police.

Another civil rights leader named James Forman issued a "Black Manifesto" demanding that white churches and synagogues pay black people $5 million in "compensation" - ironically, American synagogues were extremely enthusiastic supporters of the civil rights movement.

Of course, the slogans of Malcolm, the future leader of the Black Panther Party, were even more terrifying. He declared, "Nonviolent resistance is over." His calls for "a national dialogue on the advisability of dividing the United States into two separate states, one white and one black," and for recognition of "the right of the Negro to revolt if he deems it necessary and in his interest," all seemed like a path headed for rebellion and civil war.

When Phili and Marita came to New York this time, they happened to catch up with the demonstration organized by New York's black people in support. As a result, they walked all the way from Harlem to Manhattan and almost entered Wall Street.

What’s even worse is that the organizers of the march forgot to organize a picket team to restrain the black people participating in the march...

As a result, the slogans of the black people's march in New York quickly changed from supporting Martin Luther King to demanding more welfare and relief, and demanding more polite treatment, etc. They shouted all kinds of messy slogans and threw bottles and stones everywhere.

After breaking into Manhattan, the black parade simply turned into a black robbery. The strong black people went everywhere, smashing windows, looting things, setting fire to houses, beating white people... Naturally, fierce fights and conflicts broke out with the police who tried to stop them.

Fili and Marita finally got into the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and looked down from a restaurant window. They saw that the streets seemed to have turned into a battlefield. Hundreds of New York police were waving batons and whips to fight against all kinds of black people. Molotov cocktails were flying everywhere and the yellow smoke of tear gas was everywhere.

Black men were constantly falling to the ground with bloody heads, while unlucky policemen were also knocked to the ground by stones. More stores were looted and even set on fire, and beautiful white girls were dragged into alleys in panic, making indescribable strange noises.

Finally, seeing they could no longer suppress the riots, the police opened fire in the street, instantly knocking down several unlucky black men. Some of the black thugs, realizing the situation was getting worse, tried to retreat. But the blacks behind them continued to surge forward. Unless they used machine gun fire, there was no way to stop them.

As a result, the police cordon was breached, and countless police officers, black people, and citizens who were caught up in it were trampled to death or injured.

Fortunately, the New York National Guard arrived in armored vehicles at this time and fired warning shots on the street regardless of the consequences. They finally dispersed the black mob that had been driven to violence by blood and fire and gradually calmed the situation.

"Ah, the sound of gunfire, the scene, the bloodiness, it makes me think I'm still in Vietnam!"

Standing by the window at the end of the hotel corridor, Fili looked at the bloody melee on the street below and couldn't help but complain.

Then, he heard a familiar voice of agreement.

"Yeah, I think so too. In recent years, the black people in the city have been making too much trouble."

"Professor Brzezinski? Why are you in New York?"

Ferry looked back at Brzezinski and couldn't help but wonder.

"Well, I came to New York with Secretary Kennedy (Attorney General Robert Kennedy) to deal with the Negro Movement."

Brzezinski pointed to the Attorney General who was talking with several officials not far away, and sighed, "When the black people in New York organized this event, the Minister realized that the situation was not good and wanted to persuade the leaders to cancel the parade, or at least reduce its scale.

Unfortunately, we arrived too late, it was too late for everything, and things have finally evolved to this point..."

 -

When Phiri left Vietnam, Dr. Kissinger, the former consul of Phu Quoc Island, fled Phu Quoc Island, a fire pit that was about to be overwhelmed by the refugee tide, and came to Da Nang, which seemed relatively stable, to serve as ambassador to Quang Nam.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, the ambassador to the Western Highlands Federation, resolutely resigned from his post in Vietnam. Even though there were no suitable positions for him in the United States and he could only return to the White House as a short-term advisor, he insisted on leaving the front lines in Vietnam.

According to Brzezinski, the destruction of the Central Highlands Federation was doomed from the moment it was born - the sparse population, narrow territory, complex ethnic groups, and the Viet Cong base that had long been deeply rooted in the Central Highlands like a thorn in the flesh, all made it impossible for the regime to recover.

Although the Hmong soldiers of Dak Lak Province were quite skilled in combat, having successfully wiped out the Viet Cong guerrillas throughout the province, the local Hmong population numbered only a few hundred thousand, making them unable to withstand the ravages of a prolonged war. The other ethnic groups in the Central Highlands Federation were far inferior in combat effectiveness, and could only offer support at best.

Even with their advantage in home-based warfare, they could only defend against the "lightweight" Viet Cong guerrillas and resist small-scale infiltration campaigns. If they were faced with the "heavyweight" North Vietnamese regular army and engaged in a bloody, positional battle, the mountainous ethnic minorities of the Central Highlands Federation, with their backward productivity and sparse population, would quickly lose their manpower due to excessive blood loss and be forced to "soften" and surrender.

This is not a problem that can be easily solved by the Americans providing them with more guns, ammunition and instructors!

Just like the Indian tribes in North America back then, even though European powers provided them with firearms and ammunition, even if they fought with the American white pioneers, the scattered Indians would definitely not be able to outlast the continuous influx of white immigrants in a long-term tug-of-war.

As expected, during Brzezinski's tenure as ambassador to the Central Highlands, the mountain ethnic minority forces in the Central Highlands, with the assistance of US air raids and airdrops, organized many clearing operations against the Viet Cong guerrillas.

However, due to the small population of the Central Highlands, their organized army was limited. Although they did achieve numerous commendable victories thanks to their familiarity with the terrain and American air support, more Vietnamese continued to pour into the Central Highlands along the Ho Chi Minh Trail and continue to fight them.

After witnessing the clash up close, Brzezinski expressed pessimism: As long as the Vietnamese were determined and willing to make enormous sacrifices, the minority ethnic groups in the Central Highlands, who could afford even less casualties, would be doomed to fail. Their population was less than one-tenth of the Vietnamese. The confederation was also divided among so many ethnic groups, leaving ample room for the Vietnamese to instigate.

If the US military and financial support were to decline, while the Viet Cong's offensive power and determination to fight remained undiminished...

Then the demise of the Xiyuan Federation is almost a foregone conclusion.

Therefore, Brzezinski would rather resign from the Western Plains Federation without accomplishing anything than escape from this hellhole and return to the White House, which he was more familiar with.

However, while the Viet Cong on the other side of the ocean are certainly difficult to fight, the blacks and the KKK in the United States are also equally troublesome!

The massive black civil rights movement developed under the leadership, connivance and encouragement of President Kennedy.

The stability of American society has been thrown into chaos because the current government has paralyzed the violence machine and even used the power of the state to support black people.

In other words, the federal government itself is the biggest mastermind behind the black civil rights movement and the primary person responsible for causing chaos in the world.

Traditional redneck conservatives in the American South look at the current White House as if they are seeing a group of "white spies."

——If President Kennedy had not openly sent troops to escort black people to attend white schools, how could the black people in the South have the courage to make such a big fuss?

In the past, it was always the white Ku Klux Klan who hunted black people like hunting rabbits. How could black people dare to kill white people by picking up stones and bottles?

Now not only do black people no longer accept being slaughtered, but they are taking the initiative to provoke others. This is all caused by the "white spies who love black people"!

In other words, if the government severely suppresses the black riots, the black leaders who originally thought that the White House was on their side would be greatly disappointed, and all people of color and white progressives would no longer support President Johnson - which is equivalent to the current government destroying its own base.

Not to mention whether black people in the southern states could get votes under the persecution of racists, the black votes in the northern states alone were necessary for President Johnson to be re-elected and must not be lost.

However, if the government continues to turn a blind eye and condone the black riots, then over time, not only traditional white conservatives who already oppose the current government, but also a wider range of centrist voters will become fed up with the deterioration of public security and vote for the Republican Party.

As a result, the situation for the Democratic Party in the 1964 presidential election would become very ugly.

Even worse, Vice President Johnson became president after inheriting Kennedy's administration and cabinet. However, his base of supporters was not the same as Kennedy's, and could even be said to be completely opposite - Johnson's influence was mainly in the South, such as Texas!

The white Democratic conservatives who have traditionally held power in the Southern states, or the descendants of former plantation slave owners, have been the main driving force behind suppressing the political status of black people and various institutional discrimination against people of color since the end of the Civil War.

As the political agent of these descendants of slave owners, Johnson's main role in Kennedy's cabinet when he was vice president was to speak for white conservatives and curb some of Kennedy's "excessive" measures. Then he would throw his hands up to his supporters and say, "I've done my best."

Anyway, every American knows that the vice president generally has no real power, so it is understandable that Johnson said he could not stop Kennedy from doing whatever he wanted.

But when Johnson became president, he could no longer shirk responsibility as he had done in the past, saying that he could not stop the black movement.

Therefore, it was not just the White House that was caught in a dilemma in the face of the black riots. President Johnson was also caught in a dilemma: until November 1964, he was governing the country under the shadow of President Kennedy. It was not until he won the election that he could say that he was serving as president on his own.

His current cabinet members were Kennedy's legacy, and with an election coming up, it was not appropriate to make a drastic change. However, his die-hard supporters within the Democratic Party, the conservative Democratic Party in the Southern states (the future rednecks), were staunch opponents of Kennedy.

If Johnson continued Kennedy's policies, it might disappoint Johnson's supporters and cause them to defect, but it might not necessarily win Kennedy's supporters.

If Johnson rejects Kennedy's policies, the current government will immediately fall into division, and this year's election situation will become even more worrying.

——Especially when the US military's performance in Vietnam was clearly not as devastating as previously estimated...

In other words, Johnson either destroyed his own personal base or destroyed the base of this government.

No matter which base is destroyed, he is destined to lose this year's election - unless the Republican electors perform even worse!

As a White House advisor, Brzezinski, a geopolitical scholar, could offer no refreshing solutions to this extremely complex domestic issue, and could only advise the government to play it safe and maintain stability. Regarding the increasingly volatile Black movement, he suggested negotiating whenever possible, but if things got too outrageous, he would, of course, suppress them—at least until after this year's election.

However, can we really maintain stability until the end of the election by just talking nonsense and having a perfunctory attitude?

Firi felt that the situation seemed very risky - neither the black movement organizers nor the white KKK were fools.

They will definitely take advantage of the election year and become more radical in causing trouble!

Just like the Democratic Party in later generations, in order to force Trump to step down, they launched the Black Lives Matter movement with great fanfare.

"Professor Brzezinski, I'm afraid the plan you and the Attorney General want to use to delay the process will be difficult to implement. Today's Black people are no longer as muddle-headed and willing to be slaves as they were before. Instead, they have awakened to the civil rights movement and begun to fight for their civil rights.

It is impossible to force a person who has seen hope to return to despair and numbness without provoking violent resistance."

Fili shook his head and said, "We are now in an era of awakening, just like the Jews will not be happy to be locked up in the ghetto again (the Jewish residential areas in major European cities in modern times,

The Irish are not happy to go back to eating only potatoes every day. Now these awakened black people will not be happy to go back to their past second-class citizen status like slaves.

As the anger and frustration that have been suppressed for a hundred years among black people have burst forth, various political movements will surely follow in the years to come.

Unless the state uses force to maintain and strengthen the system of racial oppression - but this is completely contrary to the "American spirit" that is being promoted today!

Therefore, in the face of the awakening of black people, the government can only make constant compromises, trying to keep black people hopeful about this country, rather than letting them despair and turn to confrontation amidst their anger. However, if they continue to compromise, even if it is just verbal deception, it will seriously offend conservatives in the Southern states, allowing conservative Democrats and Republicans to use this as an excuse to attack the government, and the KKK will continue to cause trouble, just like the German Nazis' Storm Troopers.

In this way, it is impossible to keep the country in order. Only after experiencing a period of great chaos can we usher in great order..."

"Yes, awaken! National awakening! Wherever there is awakening, chaos and turmoil will come!"

Brzezinski sighed, "It was like this in Vietnam, and it's still like this at home!"

"There's no other way. As long as the people have awakened, as long as injustice and discrimination still exist, the flame of resistance will never be extinguished."
