It is obvious which is stronger, Cuba, which can mobilize the people to join the war, or the Dominican Republic, which cannot mobilize the people and may not even be able to mobilize the army.

More importantly, if the goal is to deal with Cuba, the only way currently is to do so behind the scenes through the CIA, and there is no way to get Congress to approve the Pentagon's military deployment.

But if the goal is to attack the Dominican Republic, the new government can directly dispatch aircraft carrier battle groups and marines!

Because all the legal grounds required to deploy the US military are based on

According to reports, Trujillo has already prepared everything for us..."

——After hearing this, Robert Kennedy and McNamara's eyes suddenly lit up...

Author's words: PS: There will be another update later today.

Chapter 33: The US is in the right to attack the Dominican Republic! (Part 2)

Although the US was described by global public opinion as being extremely domineering, during the Cold War, the US government was generally cautious, conservative, and disciplined in its approach to overseas wars.

After World War II, every time the US military officially sent troops overseas to participate in a war, it actually had to go through a legal process and had basic legal basis:

Either they received a request for assistance from a government in the combat zone, or they received authorization from the United Nations, or they were provoked by the enemy and launched a counterattack.

China participated in the Korean War after receiving a request for assistance from the Syngman Rhee government of South Korea and obtaining authorization and approval from the United Nations.

The United States participated in the Vietnam War at the invitation of the South Vietnamese government, which accused North Vietnam of violating the 1954 peace treaty (in fact, both sides violated it).

The Battle of Grenada was a military coup in the country, and the rebels' activities "allegedly" threatened the safety of thousands of American expatriates there.

The invasion of Panama was initiated by Panamanian politicians who declared war in the chaos and exchanged fire with American soldiers, which was seized upon by the US government as an excuse.

The Gulf War was launched by the US military to punish Iraq for its invasion of Kuwait, and it was authorized by the United Nations and had widespread support from the world.

When it comes to launching overseas wars, the US military has always insisted on having a legitimate reason, or at least a legal justification.

Moreover, we must not launch an undeclared war like Japan did with the Pearl Harbor attack, and we can even sacrifice the surprise of the military strike for this purpose:

The American imperial army always announces its wars to the world. How can it steal and treacherously behave like bandits?

——In view of the precedent of the fall of the Roman Republic, Capitol Hill is guarding against the US military losing control and going on a rampage at all times, just like guarding against thieves.

Otherwise, if another Caesar or Augustus appears, wouldn't all the wealthy and prosperous senators be put on the "public enemy list"?

Even if it was just Sulla or Marius who came and killed people in Washington, with rivers of blood and countless heads rolling, it would be too much for us gentlemen to bear!

Therefore, the US military must never move arbitrarily. Any movement will touch the sensitive nerves of members of Congress, and then they will be furious.

As for the subversive actions in Iran, Guatemala, Congo and other places, those were all carried out secretly by CIA agents, and the US military did not take any action.

(This is also why Kennedy was reluctant to rashly send troops to Cuba - the CIA did not give Kennedy a pretext to do so.)

Generally speaking, the conditions for triggering the "American Imperialist Heavenly Invasion" are actually very strict. It is not just a matter of shouting a few anti-American slogans or tearing up a few contracts with American companies, and then American soldiers will kick down your door - usually, those who come to kick down your door should be CIA agents or informants.

In this situation, without a suitable excuse, it would be difficult for the US president to make up his mind to declare war on Cuba and then order the Pentagon to dispatch hundreds of thousands of troops to attack Cuba and kill Castro - because this would neither be approved by Congress nor authorized by the United Nations.

After all, while the US government viewed Castro's Cuban communist regime as a thorn in its side, for the Latin American people, who had long suffered under the brutal exploitation of the United Fruit Company and major US grain traders, Castro's successful revolution was a guiding light.

Besides, Cuba has not made any moves to invade other countries, so it is impossible for the United Nations to authorize the US military to attack Cuba at the moment.

After all, Fidel Castro is such a cunning guy. How could he easily give the United States a reason to declare war?

The reason why the CIA went to such great lengths to hire Cuban exiles was to create an excuse for the United States to send troops to Cuba.

According to the CIA's original plan, the 2506th Brigade would occupy territory after landing in Cuba and establish a "Free Cuba Government." Using this "Free Cuba Government," they would then, in imitation of the Syngman Rhee regime during the Korean War, invite US troops to the island to assist.

In this way, the US military changed from a brutal invader to a friendly force invited by the "Cuban people", and its participation in the war became reasonable and legal.

But the CIA did not seem to have considered that, with only half a brigade's meager strength, could the 2506th Brigade really successfully occupy a city or a province on the island of Cuba, and then establish a "Free Cuban Government" that could summon the US imperial division to the island to assist in the suppression?

If the president can't even establish an "opposition government" to compete with Castro, what excuse do you think he can use to convince Congress to agree to join the war?

There are countless members of Congress from both parties who are eager to gain fame and flatter the president under the banner of upholding the law!

 -

However, compared with the cunning and difficult to deal with Castro on the island of Cuba, the Dominican dictator "Benefactor of the Motherland" Trujillo seemed to have lost his mind due to old age. In just one year in 1960, he met all the conditions for triggering the "American Imperial Invasion"!

First, Trujillo, the ruler of a Catholic country, fell out with the Vatican this year. The aging and frail Trujillo ordered the persecution of nuns and priests in his country. The Pope in Rome reacted strongly, issuing a "Book of the Church" to formally break with Trujillo.

——If this happened in the Middle Ages, it would be equivalent to the excommunication law, which would have stripped Trujillo of his Christian identity.

From then on, whether the Dominican Christians rebelled or assassinated Trujillo, they were all good deeds blessed by God.

Secondly, in June 1960, Trujillo dispatched Dominican Military Intelligence agents to assassinate the Venezuelan president with a car bomb. Not only did they fail to kill the president, but they were also caught red-handed, causing an uproar in public opinion and diplomatic circles.

Even the Soviet Union's subsequent invasion of Afghanistan and the killing of President Amin sparked worldwide resentment and boycotts. How could a small tropical island nation like the Dominican Republic have the audacity to engage in such superpower-like activities? This is truly an act of usurpation to the point of utter indignation!

In fact, before this, the Dominican Military Intelligence Agency agents sent by Trujillo had killed the Guatemalan dictator, Colonel Armas, nicknamed "Axe Face" in 1957. However, in that assassination attempt, no solid evidence seemed to be obtained. Colonel Armas was not popular and had few friends in neighboring countries. After the assassination, no one stood up for him, so Trujillo got away with it.

But this time in June 1960, Trujillo couldn't get away with it.

His brazen act of assassinating a foreign leader sparked outrage across the Americas. To disassociate itself from Trujillo, the Organization of American States (OAS) issued a joint statement in San José, Costa Rica, announcing the collective severing of diplomatic relations with the Dominican Republic, halting all trade, and initiating the most severe sanctions until the Dominican Republic no longer posed a threat to peace—that is, until Trujillo stepped down.

Next, Latin American countries confronted the United States, saying that if the United States still wanted to cooperate with Latin America, it must eliminate the mad dog Trujillo.

In order to take into account the feelings of the entire Latin America, President Eisenhower announced in August that he would sever diplomatic ties with the Dominican Republic and would no longer provide shelter for Trujillo.

Next, the United Nations passed Resolution 156 on September 8, 1960, imposing comprehensive sanctions on the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic and urging Trujillo to step down as soon as possible. At this point, the Dominican Republic had been isolated by the whole world.

Even at this point, Trujillo still didn't know how to restrain himself. On November 25, he had three women's rights activists, the famous "Miraval Sisters," beaten to death. This sparked strong indignation among progressive people around the world.

To commemorate the martyrdom of the Miraval sisters, the United Nations General Assembly designated this day as the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women."

Now that the Miraval sisters have become saints, what then is Trujillo, who killed them? A great demon?

With all the astonishing actions he carried out this year, Trujillo successfully offended almost all camps at home and abroad, from left to right.

Starting in August, President Eisenhower sent three special envoys to urge Trujillo to resign, give up power, and flee to the United States. But Trujillo ignored them all, hoping instead that a change of president would lead to a change in his attitude toward him.

As a result, in December, after contacting the next president, Kennedy, and finding that Kennedy was also urging him to give up power and step down, Trujillo fell into a state of hysteria and even threatened that if the United States did not protect him, he would hoist the red flag and defect to the Soviet Union!

Although this was just Trujillo's own rhetoric, and Khrushchev in the Soviet Union did not respond, if this matter leaked out and became widely known in the media, it would be like filling his grave with the final shovel of dirt.

——You bastard, you have already brazenly said that you want to vote for the Soviet Union and the Communist Party. Do the American far-right McCarthyists still dare to protect you?

If they continue to cover up, their own extreme right-wing image will collapse! What else can they do if they don’t cut ties quickly?

In short, by the end of December 1960, the Dominican dictator, "Benefactor of the Motherland" Trujillo, had successfully gathered together a series of horrifying historical achievements, including the excommunication of the Pope, global sanctions from the United Nations, the collective severance of diplomatic relations and exchanges with all countries in the Americas, the severance of diplomatic sanctions and urging to step down from power by the United States... Any one of these is enough to make a normal politician shudder.

But this old guy still feels very good about himself, squatting on the doorstep of the United States, boasting that he wants to surrender to the Soviet Union...

If it had not happened to be an election year for the US president, and President Eisenhower had not wanted to make a big fuss in the last few months of his term out of tradition and convention, Trujillo would have been arranged to go to heaven in a decent manner long ago.

But "Trujillo, this mad dog, cannot be kept" has become a unanimous consensus among the American government and the people.

——In the current environment, anyone who dares to speak well of Trujillo is no longer politically incorrect, but is cutting himself off from humanity!

Therefore, if the US military sends troops to Cuba, it will provoke opposition from the Soviet Union and global left-wing political forces internationally, and will also be subject to various constraints domestically.

But if the United States wants to send troops to the Dominican Republic to eliminate Trujillo, it will truly be a righteous cause and there will be no hindrance at all.

It's probably just like when President Bush launched the invasion of Afghanistan after 9/11, no one could express opposition.

"Also, if the operation is done properly, the CIA will send the 2506th Brigade to land in the Dominican Republic to eliminate Trujillo's special forces.

Military action could even be initiated by the legitimate President of the Dominican Republic, Joaquín Balaguer!"

Captain Ferry King dropped another bombshell to the future Kennedy cabinet members: "With this, the CIA's operations in the Dominican Republic have changed from invading foreign territory to suppressing a rebellion in the country at the invitation of the Dominican government!

Even if Trujillo puts up a desperate fight and the 2506th Brigade's offensive is thwarted, the Pentagon can send the Marines directly to serve as backup."

Well, although Rafael Trujillo ruled the Dominican Republic as a dictator for 30 years, on the surface, he still followed the principles of American democracy. He did not proclaim himself president for life or emperor. Instead, he stepped back from the political arena after serving several terms and let other puppets take over as president.

Of course, the president can be replaced by someone else, but power will never be shared with others. After stepping down, Rafael Trujillo learned from the advanced experience of ancient Japan, proclaimed himself the Grand Marshal, opened a shogunate at home, and completely undermined the nominal position of the Dominican President.

Therefore, the current Dominican President, Joaquin Balaguer, is like the emperor of the Japanese shogunate era. He has an empty title but no real power, and he has been very unhappy for a long time - just like the Japanese emperor wanted to overthrow the shogunate, President Balaguer also wanted to overthrow Trujillo!

Given this, the CIA established contact with President Balaguer when searching for opposition groups within the Dominican Republic. Although Trujillo had established a military intelligence agency in the Dominican Republic and implemented a high-pressure spy regime, this system failed when used against the US.

Because, from the very beginning, the Dominican Republic's spy system has been tainted with countless American influences...

Now that Trujillo's empire is on the verge of collapse, people all over the Dominican Republic are in panic, and I wonder how many people want to rely on the United States to find a way out.

Even the spies employed by Trujillo were no exception—they had done so much dirty work for the Trujillo family and accumulated so much hatred. If they didn't have a backer, how would they survive after Trujillo's fall?

And in the Americas, who has a stronger backer than the United States? As long as the CIA is willing to hold out a lifeline, there's absolutely no fear that no one will come to catch them!

The only problem was that Firi felt that the CIA director seemed to have overestimated the effectiveness of the assassination. Killing Rafael Trujillo alone did not mean that the Trujillo family, which had ruled the Dominican Republic for 30 years, would immediately collapse.

Even with the righteousness provided by the legitimate president, Trujillo's family members would probably continue to struggle desperately with the army in their hands.

If the United States wants to prevent the situation in the Dominican Republic from getting out of control and ensure the establishment of a new pro-American regime in the country, it is absolutely impossible for it not to send troops.

Instead of letting the Cuban mercenaries of the 2506th Brigade be wiped out in the Bay of Pigs on the island of Cuba or on some other beach and become a laughing stock to the world, it would be better to drag them to the Dominican Republic to serve as messengers of justice and show off their wealth and honor!

 Chapter 34, Fight for Sugar!

In fact, according to the original historical development, after the assassination of Trujillo, the United States did send troops to the Dominican Republic twice.

The first time, President Kennedy only dispatched 1800 Marines to assist the Dominican opposition in suppressing the remnants of the Trujillo family.

As the saying goes, "You can't prop up a wall with mud." The Dominican Republic's opposition is truly useless. Even though Trujillo, their "benefactor," has been riddled with bullets, these cowards are still unable to defeat the few loyalist forces controlled by Trujillo's remnants, and can only call on the United States for their support.

The second time was after Kennedy was assassinated, when his successor, President Johnson, dispatched 42,000 troops to quell the civil war that broke out in the Dominican Republic.

The reason was that after the overthrow of Trujillo, the various factions had an unequal distribution of the spoils and were unwilling to accept each other, so they had to resort to force to determine the winner. Unfortunately, Trujillo had left behind too many weapons and equipment, which turned this once prosperous country into ruins.

It's a shame. Instead of being destroyed in the flames of war, wouldn't it be better to pay tribute to the United States?

According to Firi's idea, instead of waiting until the situation deteriorates beyond control and then sending troops into the Dominican Republic, which would cause a mess and be a thankless task, it would be better to send troops into the Dominican Republic with great force from the beginning, under the banner of upholding justice.

Then put the hateful criminal Trujillo in an iron cage and parade him through the streets of Washington. Surely this would help the new government gain some popularity, right?

Everyone present expressed varying degrees of agreement with Firi's view that sending troops is more effective than assassination.

Then, Firi put forward the specific action plan that he had initially conceived.

"First, we could spread the word to the media that the desperate Dominican dictator, Rafael Trujillo, was planning to turn to the Soviet Union for asylum and maintain his evil rule - this was actually true, and we could even have President Kennedy confirm it himself.

Of course, the president himself shouldn't say too much, but the tabloid reporters and radio hosts can be more provocative.

For example, Trujillo planned to invite the Soviet fleet to station at the Dominican Republic's naval base, and he hoped the Soviet army would deploy nuclear bombs in the Dominican Republic. This created the impression that Trujillo was completely mad.

Regarding the matter of deceiving people, Firi is in the "Lie System"

], he immediately said, "With this foundation, even the most extreme anti-Soviet elements in the country should have no reason to oppose the new government to deal with Trujillo in the Dominican Republic first..."

While speaking, Ferry glanced at Dr. Brzezinski who was sitting on the sofa next to him.

 Dr. Brzezinski: ???

"Next, in order to make the public fully aware of the significance of sending troops to the Dominican Republic and to let people know that this war is not just for fame, we need to mobilize public opinion. For example, we can ask people to write articles declaring that after losing Cuba, the United States cannot lose the Dominican Republic again.

Of course, the reasons are very sufficient: Cuba was once a sugar island in the Caribbean, exporting 500 million tons of sugar to the European and American markets every year.

But ever since Castro raised the red flag, all the Cuban sugar has gone to the Russian samovars! The Russians eat sugar like bears, pouring can after can into their mouths and never finding enough. Furthermore, the Russians love to use sugar to make wine, so they've taken all the Cuban sugar!

The Dominican Republic is the only place in the Caribbean that can still provide the US market with a stable supply of large quantities of high-quality sugar.

If even the sugar from the Dominican Republic is taken away by the Soviet Union, where will the Americans find sugar to eat?

Fili pumped his fist and said excitedly, "For the sake of America's kitchen sugar bowl, we can't lose the Dominican Republic!"

"It sounds a bit like the propaganda used by President Truman and General MacArthur ten years ago, saying that after losing China, the United States couldn't afford to lose South Korea. But the propaganda was quite effective, and they successfully organized a large multinational force to fight on the Korean Peninsula."

Secretary Rusk interjected, "The same propaganda model should work in the Dominican War."

“Using this kind of slogan to promote the Dominican campaign should be more touching!

After all, few people in the United States like to eat Korean kimchi. But everyone's cakes and coffee are inseparable from Caribbean sugar.

McNamara said with emotion, "Although corn syrup made from starch has become available in recent years and is cheaper, the texture and taste are always a bit strange and not as familiar as sugar cane... Yes, the United States really can't lose the Dominican Republic!"

——Before World War II, the sugar consumed by people all over the world was basically natural cane sugar squeezed from beets and sugarcane.

Although sugarcane production in Central America and the Caribbean is substantial, it is, after all, a seasonal cash crop. Natural disasters can significantly reduce production. Consequently, sugar prices were extremely high before World War II, and even during the war, the United States experienced a sugar shortage, forcing Americans to purchase sugar only with coupons.

As for the Soviet people, they were even worse off. Their land was too cold to grow sugarcane, and they could only eat a little bit of not-so-sweet beet sugar, and the quantity was very small. Not only did it have to be supplied with tickets, it was often discounted. Before 1950, the Soviet people had never been able to buy the full amount of the prescribed sugar ration!

After the 1950s, with the breakthrough of sugar-making technology, high fructose corn syrup made from corn starch finally appeared in the world. With its low price and technical advantages of year-round production, this high fructose corn syrup quickly replaced sucrose in the food processing industry.

However, there are some differences in the taste of sucrose and fructose. When corn syrup first appeared, many people who were used to eating natural sucrose were still not used to the taste of high fructose corn syrup. As long as they could, they wanted to eat sucrose as much as possible.

--After Cuba and the United States became enemies and imposed a trade blockade on each other, Cuban sugar no longer entered the United States. The current supply of sugar on the U.S. market mainly relies on sugarcane plantations in the Dominican Republic, which is geographically close to Cuba and has a similar climate.

If the supply of sugar from the Dominican Republic is also cut off and no substitute can be found in a short period of time, then there will be another sugar shortage in the US market.

Even the most peace-loving American housewife would probably scream to attack the Dominican Republic at the thought of running out of sugar in her coffee!

——Sugar is actually much more addictive than anesthetics, but quitting sugar does not have the terrible withdrawal reaction like quitting drugs, so no one has paid attention to it.
