A Guide to Becoming a God Starting from a Monastery
Author: Reader
Summary:
Thomas traveled to a parallel dimension of medieval Europe, but he carried with him a damaged divine nature.
Isn't God omniscient and omnipotent? Why does he have so many antics?
Oh, the ascetic can also spell? That was my mistake. Goodbye.
Perhaps, in this world, one can control one's own destiny?

This story was inspired by the comedy film "The Visitor." It tells the story of a medieval noble knight who, framed by his enemies, drinks a hallucinogenic potion, accidentally killing his fiancée. To undo his mistake, he seeks the help of a magician, hoping to reverse the situation. However, the magic goes awry, and he and his servant travel back in time to the future, a modern city.
A medieval knight and his servant arrive in a modern city, where they mistake cars for monsters and flush toilets for drinking water... This leads to a series of farces. Of course, everything ends happily in the end.
But there is a confusing and strange setting in this movie.
So why are the magicians so miserable?
In the movies, magicians/witches have demonstrated at least four abilities: summoning magical beasts, creating illusion potions, traveling back in time, and traveling back in time. To be frank, even if a magician only knew these four tricks, it would still be incredible.
Especially the ability to "accurately travel to the past and change established history" is almost the same as cheating.
This is the power that truly allows people to do whatever they want.
From small things like the protagonist clearing his name to big things like reversing a war, overthrowing a dynasty, and changing history, it is not too easy.
But the problem is that a magician with such powerful strength has a power that is extremely disproportionate to his status.
In the film, these magicians are ordered around, threatened, or looked down upon by the knights, including the protagonist. The magicians have a very low status and their personal safety is not even guaranteed.
I have no idea how a magician with such abilities could have fallen to such a state.
Not to mention anything else, the ability to travel back and forth in time and space alone is enough for magicians to rule the world.
It should be the magician who orders the knights around, not the other way around.
Even if magicians, due to their unique cultural and mental limitations, have little ambition for worldly power, they should at least be able to obtain titles such as Kingdom Advisors, which gives them a transcendent status. They shouldn't be living in seclusion in remote places like rats, where any knight can rush in and threaten and bribe them.
Therefore, according to the logic of this movie, the only viable explanation is that the seemingly powerful magicians actually have great limitations, or flaws.
It can also be inferred that this is not a flaw in the magician's ideology, but a flaw in "magic" itself.
It's not that a specific magic has limitations, but that all magic has limitations.
A more normal inference is that magicians have a limited number of times to cast magic.
It's not like DND, where the caster can restore his casting ability by resting and meditating for a night.
You can't recover by drinking potions (well water) like in Magic Gate.
If magic is extremely difficult to restore, then it is understandable that magicians have to be inferior to knights and survive like sewer rats.
They have power, but... limited in number.
If there really is such a world...well, or a parallel dimension, what would the world be like?
Chapter One
Chapter 1 Damaged Godhead
It's raining lightly outside the window.
The rain gathered into a medium-sized stream at the top of the church, then slid down along a long-formed path, and finally dripped onto the church's stained glass windows, making a rhythmic, slight "pa pa" sound.
Although the sound was not loud, it was refreshing after listening to the choir's drowsy singing.
The boy raised his head and temporarily shifted his attention to the colorful glass that made a crisp sound.
A mass is going on in the church.
At the head was a priest, his assistant, and a choir.
The crowd below was divided into two groups intentionally or unintentionally.
One group consisted of believers in various clothing, while the other group consisted of monks wearing the same gray cloak. The former group had more people, while the latter group had fewer.
It’s hard to describe the believers’ clothing. If I have to say something, it’s that it’s terrible.
Either they are tattered and look no different from street homeless people, or they are dressed up and look like peacocks... Well, this metaphor is not appropriate, because peacocks are not eye-catching, but people are.
Especially men.
The boy turned his gaze from the multicolored glass back to the man closest to him.
The man was dressed in red and green.
He's obviously a paunchy, toad-like person, yet he dresses himself in such a flashy way that it makes you want to vomit. Such taste... let's not even talk about it!
"This is the Middle Ages, the Middle Ages!" the boy whispered to himself in a voice that no one could hear.
Although the choir sang hard, the level was really not satisfactory.
From time to time, there would be a few wisps of noise floating in... There was no doubt that someone inside was singing out of tune, or a tune that was quite far away.
Of course, even if they were not out of tune, their singing would not be very pleasant.
As for the soundtrack… there isn’t one.
This isn't the Earth of the 21st century! The church has high-end speakers playing all kinds of religious songs.
It has been several months since the boy came here, so although he has not completely gotten used to the life here, he has roughly figured out where he is.
This is Europe... and not 21st century Europe, but the Middle Ages.
Specifically, the place he was currently in seemed to be called Bohemia. The Chomutov Church in Bohemia.
He knew the word Bohemia. Though unfamiliar, he understood that this place would eventually be called the Czech Republic. It also had a brotherly country called Slovakia, sharing the same language and culture. The two countries had once merged into one nation, Czechoslovakia, but ultimately split. It was said that despite sharing the same language and culture, their lifestyles had diverged significantly, ultimately deciding they were no longer suitable as a nation, and so they amicably parted ways, each living their own lives.
But now, it's called Bohemia...it seems to be a principality.
It seems there's an empire above the Duchy... the famous Holy Roman Empire. An empire that's neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire!
Europe, the Middle Ages... A few months ago, this term was relatively unfamiliar to him, not particularly interested in history. His only recent exposure to it came from a pop-up ad for a computer strategy game... He never imagined he'd be there in person!
Yes, time travel, damn time travel.
Some people may salivate at this opportunity, but for someone living in a peaceful era in the 21st century, this is really not a good thing.
The boy wavered in anguish for a moment, his memory once again becoming a bit muddled as he delved into the past. He remembered Qian Goose, Shopping Cat, computers, the internet... warm air conditioning, comfortable clothes... barbecue, beer, cigarettes... KFC or McDonald's... countless books and information... but he had lost himself.
Why was he here? Most importantly, his own name—who was he?
"Thomas!" His companion noticed something and gently rubbed his arm, bringing him back to reality.
The young man sighed slightly and shifted his gaze from the colorful toad in front of him to the priest preaching high up.
Make the best of it—even though he is not a Christian.
Speaking of which, time travel does have its benefits.
In the 21st century, he would be middle-aged... maybe even young? But in any case, he would not be as young as he is now.
His body was indeed very young, probably around fifteen years old.
The original owner was supposedly the son of a farmer from a village on the outskirts of Cardan City (though he had no idea where that place was). Well, after a sudden rainstorm, his parents contracted a respiratory illness and died of a high fever.
Colds and fevers were considered minor ailments in the 21st century, but in this era they can easily take a person's life.
After the death of both his parents, the village chief, perhaps in order to better take care of the orphan who had lost his parents, or perhaps in order to better take over his family's property (especially some fields), got a place in a monastery and sent Thomas to the monastery.
Then, the carriage had a minor malfunction and Thomas fell off the carriage and passed out. When he woke up, he had a big bump on his head and his soul had been replaced.
So after crossing over, especially after entering the monastery, things went surprisingly smoothly.
In the eyes of others, his ignorance, stupidity, and dullness—even his ignorance of common sense—are perfectly normal. How much knowledge can you expect from a farmer's son in the countryside?
The Eucharist and the Holy Blood had already been distributed. Specifically, it was a small piece of bread and a small cup of wine.
The bread was of a very coarse texture, almost like wood chips compared to the white bread sold in 21st-century bakeries. Thomas had to hold his nose to eat it. And the portion was more suitable for feeding a pigeon than a human. Fortunately, that was the case.
After eating, the priest presiding over the mass finally announced the end of the mass.
People began to walk out of the church.
The church door wasn't very big, so everyone left in an orderly fashion: the priest and his assistants in front, the faithful in the back, while Thomas and his group waited patiently.
Thomas closed his eyes slightly, then saw the object again.
When he closed his eyes and looked inward, he could see the light.
It seemed real, yet also like an illusion. You couldn't tell whether it was solid or liquid, with a soft light emanating from the center. Thomas knew what it was the first time he saw it, just like seeing a completely unfamiliar pattern, you can still tell whether it is a circle, a square, or a polyhedron. This was the essence of the deity, or the godhead.
This divine body is covered with cracks and its color is slightly darker.
So this should be a damaged divine nature.
Section 2: Damaged Godhead 2
Thomas didn't know where this broken godhead came from.
Perhaps the original owner was born with it - just like those sons of destiny who are born to be kings and have the power of heaven in their mouths.
Maybe it was brought with him during his time travel.
This may even be the reason for time travel.
But this problem cannot be traced back and can only be kept in mind.
However, one thing was clear: a damaged godhead wouldn't grant him immediate deification. It seemed to have no effect, simply sitting quietly within his body. Thomas possessed neither transcendental powers nor any special powers worth mentioning.
Now, a faint, independent light had appeared outside the divine nature. This light seemed to be dependent on the divine nature, but it also maintained a small distance from the divine nature itself.
Thomas named this ball of light divine power.
Thomas has experimented with this many times, and every time he attends a complete mass, a ball of divine power will condense from the damaged godhead.
As for this divine power...it is quite useful.
It can passively repair and heal the body.
If Thomas were injured or ill in any way, it would automatically take effect, as long as the condition was serious.
Thomas had previously suffered a bout of diarrhea from eating lettuce.
In his previous life, Thomas usually treated lettuce by stir-frying it or making it into soup, but the monks would put it directly into their mouths.
People of this era believed that uncooked fruits were extremely cold and could cause various diseases, but because of this, the monks believed that this would allow the sins deep within the body to be excreted.
The premise is that this excretion is controllable.
If it’s uncontrollable…meaning diarrhea, that’s another matter.
In the 21st century, diarrhea is a minor ailment, easily treated at a local clinic, but like most minor ailments, it was potentially fatal in medieval times.
If there is too much diarrhea, the human body will die from dehydration.
It was almost, just a little bit, and Thomas would disappear silently from this world due to diarrhea and dehydration like countless predecessors who failed in their time travel.
But just when he felt weak, his diarrhea suddenly healed.
The weak body also regained its vitality.
If the cessation of diarrhea could be interpreted as the body's ability to recover, then the instantaneous recovery of a body so weak it could barely stand a second ago to full health a second later was definitely a supernatural factor. Subsequent examination confirmed that a ball of divine power was indeed missing.
Because of this incident, Thomas subsequently conducted many experiments and finally became convinced that consuming divine power could heal illnesses and injuries and restore the body.
It will automatically take effect when Thomas's body is damaged to a more serious extent.
But if Thomas actively uses the power in his mind, it can also be used to heal minor injuries that are not serious.
This treatment is not only for diseases and injuries in the usual sense, but also for more, such as those caused by hunger.
