Lud, the supreme leader of the Church of Oghma, relied on divine power to sweep his hand with a single wave, enough to lift all the enemies he struck like rags, their shattered heads scattering to the ground like blossoming flowers. The remaining enemies chose not to attack immediately, but instead leaped from the city wall without hesitation. Then, they unexpectedly opened a pitch-black door, leaped through, and disappeared.

The man guarding the scriptures repelled the enemy's attack, but there was no joy on his face.

He silently covered the dimension bag on his waist.

The treasure was cut open by the sudden attackers, leaving an extremely glaring gap.

Dimension bag, dimensional hole.

These incredibly convenient space items have one huge drawback – once destroyed, their contents will be scattered into every corner of the astral realm.

The astral plane is a place that may be larger than the entire material plane.

Falling into the astral realm is almost equivalent to being impossible to be found again.

And the key to the maze lock is still inside.

Almost at the same time, Stutin's warning and the female voice of the Enlightener Priest were heard suddenly.

Stutin said: [We just repelled Milim's attack... and here she comes again!]

And that enchanting female voice whispered in Lude's mind like a whisper: [—Tell my good sister Selune that this is a return gift for her sudden jihad against me the other day.]

Lude's body shook.

What is the Church of Selune?

It was merely a revenge launched by the Church of Shar. Candlekeep was unluckily chosen as their target—even the Shar attackers might not have known that the key to the maze was within the dimensional bag. They merely caused the supreme leader of Candlekeep to lose a precious item.

At the same time, the already gloomy sky suddenly became even darker.

The gatekeeper didn't bother to clean up the mess on the ground. He raised his eyes in astonishment: "...Scripture Keeper, are those... liches?"

One by one, the most powerful undead creatures appeared in the sky, their robes rustling in the wind like the rapidly beating hearts of the crowd.

This kind of creature is extremely unruly and it is impossible for it to act on a large scale.

——Except for one person, he once controlled an army of hundreds of liches.

But Lude just looked up and saw dozens of liches.

An enemy of this size would have been too much for Candlekeep to contend with just a few minutes ago.

——As long as the maze can be opened.

Even the liches did not realize that they were already at a huge advantage, but patrolled the air with extreme caution.

The liches cried out in unison: "—Disciples of Oghma, in the name of our Lord Larloch, we come to lay waste Candlekeep and return all its secrets to the Warlock's Tomb! Open your mythals!"

They didn't dare to launch a direct attack and risk being counterattacked by the maze, they just wanted to test the power of the maze first.

However, they soon realized that although the people in Candlekeep had tried to launch an attack... the most critical maze showed no signs of opening.

They looked at each other in astonishment.

One of the liches waved his wand tentatively towards the castle in the inner court of Candlekeep.

Four crimson meteors formed in the magic circle in mid-air.

Then, it fell towards Candlekeep.

Ugly smiles couldn't help but appear on the liches' dry faces.

Meteor Burst unexpectedly went smoothly all the way!

That magical Candle Castle maze lock doesn't exist at all!

"Qiang."

However, just as the liches were about to celebrate, an extremely clear sound of a sword being unsheathed suddenly rang out.

***************************

Beneath the earth, the lich group has released the first wave of spells.

The bones are like a forest.

Apodale stood quietly in front of them.

Abjuration, conjuration, divination, enchantment, evocation, illusion, necromancy, transmutation.

Spells from the eight factions were almost all blasted out in an instant.

Apodel grasped the hilt of the sword.

Now is the time to unsheathe the holy sword.

This thought, like a fuse, instantly ignited the scroll wrapped around the scabbard.

"Qiang."

The scabbard and the sword blade collided, and endless power was born from the scroll, but was forcibly bound by the scroll in a small space until it was oppressed to the limit.

Finally, power gushed out.

It flows through the world along the magic network and rocks.

The howling invisible waves tear apart all spells they encounter.

The magical frenzy that covered the sky and the sun suddenly crashed into the highest mountain and could no longer move forward.

"...?!"

The liches were stunned for a moment.

The flickering magical light dimmed in an instant, and the roaring tide of killing was completely torn apart by the invisible storm.

Then, this invisible and intangible light suddenly exploded, sweeping across Candle Castle like a brilliant new star.

All the protective magic on the lich vanished without a trace the moment it came into contact with the raging tide. Countless runes that had once been hidden in the rocks silently dissipated into the world. All the ivory statues on the lich shattered, but without causing a single wave.

However, Metatron's magic still shines brightly.

"Don't be too happy too soon," said the Holy Knight.

Finally, the roaring tide of magical power converged on the unsheathed blade. At this moment, the enchantment of this holy sword was finally completed.

Transparent as glass, tougher than steel; the blade is made of refined gold, and the magic web is engraved with inscriptions.

The power of the holy sword was transmitted clearly through the sword's spine to every part of Apodel's body. He had been inseparable from this holy sword day and night for nearly a hundred years, so there was no way he could mistake it.

"...You are amazing. In just a few months, the little wizard in the forest has grown to this level." Apodel sighed.

The sword tip was slightly tilted, and wherever the light reached, all the liches covered their eyes with their hands, forgetting that they should continue to cast spells.

Apodel raised the greatsword to his shoulder, and the metal and the shoulder armor rang together, making a slight sound.

The liches shuddered in unison. Apodel took a step forward, and the liches all recoiled.

The paladin said calmly, "I am Apodel Adrian, son of Gorion, Acting Marshal of the Flaming Fist, Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate, Knight of the Secret Fire of the Magical Goddess Mystra, and wield the holy sword Holy Avenger."

"Seniors, please enlighten me."

Author's words: Author's words: Bad news, because I am busy in the three-dimensional world, I have to take a day off on September 9.2nd.

A brief introduction to the current background story of this book

First, some clarification on the convoluted plot progression between Baldur's Gate 2 and 3.

Here's Wizards of the Coast's official setup:

***************************

There is a time difference of about one hundred years between Bod 2 and Bod 3.

During this century, Chanem traveled extensively, visiting many places—elven cities, returning to Candlekeep, and finally, returning to Baldur's Gate, becoming the Marshal of the Flaming Fist and the Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate (according to the latest patch, Chanem's decision to leave Candlekeep for Baldur's Gate was the result of the active influence of the Blood of Bhaal in his body).

Furthermore, unlike the Mystra Paladin Chanem in this book, the official Chanem, despite sharing the same name, is a warrior of immense strength. His character, though unremarkable, is generally neutral. He has transformed into a Slayer numerous times. (In contrast, the Chanem in this book only transformed into a Slayer once, when the boss of Shadows of Amn in Baldur's Gate 2 robbed him of his Baal power, causing him to lose control of his power and go berserk. He has never actively transformed into a Slayer.)

According to the official story, when Chanem was incarnated with divine power, he was still very powerful. If he wanted to, he could have ascended to the God of Slaughter at any time. However, he eventually gave up this path.

Finally, on the eve of DND5e's release, the prototype for the third volume, "Murder at Baldur's Gate," erupted. At the start of the module, a battle erupted between the last two sons of Bhaal, Apodel and Vierkon. Vierkon launched a deliberate surprise attack, catching Apodel off guard and defenseless.

According to the official mod, the outcome of the two is uncertain, but the winner is meaningless: as soon as one dies, Baal's incarnation, the Slayer (the fleshy mantis monster that Orin can transform into in bg3), will be born from the winner's body. The newly resurrected, weakened Baal will be hacked to death by adventurers, but he will still be officially resurrected.

The story of Baldur's Gate 3 must follow this module.

**********************************

So we need to confirm one thing first:

Evil thoughts are not used to resurrect Baal.

Evil Thought is a creature similar to the Chosen One, or in other words, the Chosen One, created by Baal after his resurrection. His mission is probably to be a tool to expand Baal's divine power.

The reason why Baal, Melkor, and Bane can act freely in the mortal world and plot against the chosen ones is not because they are strong enough, but because they are weak enough.

At the bg3 time point, these three refused to obey AO's orders and insisted on disrupting the human world, so they collectively turned into demigods and descended to the earth.

Therefore, at this point in time, the Three Gods of Death should be called the Gods of Death 1.5, and not three gods.

Sarevok appears in Baldur's Gate 3 because, in the mid-to-late game of Baldur's Gate 2, Apodel is given the option to sacrifice a portion of his spirit to resurrect his brother. Sarevok will join his team—and have a chance to turn over a new leaf—at least to the middle, I don't remember exactly. But he can definitely be resurrected.

Therefore, we can speculate that after Sarevok was resurrected, he continued to be a villain. At the same time, he also obeyed Baal's wishes and gave birth to many children - including Orin.

Compared with Baldur's Gate 3, this book has several obvious differences:

First of all, the timeline hasn't reached Baldur's Gate 3 yet. There's still about 10-20 years to go: so Will is still a little kid, and Shadowheart is even younger and more immature than in the game.

Sarevok has not been resurrected.

Baal was not resurrected.

Therefore, Olin and Xie Nian were never born. It was almost impossible for them to be born.

In addition, in the official setting, Imoen died silently, possibly due to insufficient lifespan.

In this book, Imoen is still alive and active.

*****************

Finally, let me talk a little bit about Chanem’s life journey in this book, or the choices between Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, to the old players who have played Baldur’s Gate.

As revealed in previous chapters, Apodel Adrian, unlike his student Mars, was not a bookworm. He had always wanted to be a paladin. By chance, Testoril, then Candlekeep's chief reader, happened to be a Mystra cleric, and he was greatly influenced by him, eventually becoming a Mystra paladin.

However, this matter was kept relatively secret, and until Chanem went on his journey, most of the people of Candlekeep were unaware of his appointment as a paladin.

His team has always been extremely strict.

Gorion dies in battle. Imoen joins the team. Khalid and Jaheira join the team at the Friendly Arm. The Friendly Arm also becomes the team's primary location for selling stolen goods. They rescue Viconia for a time, but ultimately find they can no longer tolerate each other and part ways. Minsk joins the team and fights Edwin the Red Mage. They rescue Dynahei.

The final team of bg1 is as follows: Chanem, Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc, and Danahel.

Standard official team.

At the same time, as mentioned many times in this book, Sarevok tried to frame Apodare in Candlekeep, but Apodare revealed his identity in the internal court of Candlekeep, and the accusation fell apart. At that time, the main force advocating innocence was Chief Reader Testoriel, who had a close relationship with Apodare and was one of the Oracle's most important external allies at the time. The Evangelical Cult tried to use Apodare to drag the Chief Reader into the water, thereby simultaneously attacking the Oracle Cult and obtaining the position of Chief Reader. Therefore, they tried their best to prove Apodare guilty, but they were counterattacked and their reputation was greatly damaged. From then on, the more conservative Oracle Cult completely took over. Despite this, the Church of Oghma still made a big fool of itself, so the overall relationship is still unresolved. (Note: The Oracle Cult and the Evangelical Cult are secondary settings in this book)

However, Baldur's Gate has never been known for justice, so they still issued a warrant for Apodel's arrest. With the help of the Harpers, they took some effort to defeat Sarevok, and the story of the first generation ended.

Generally speaking, the Apodel Adrian in this book will be a game route with almost all side quests reaching 20 reputation.

In addition, please explain why the Friendly Arm had such advanced magic arrows.

Those magic arrows were indeed obtained by Apodel Adrian and others when they raided the Tower of Durrag.

——But they sold it because they didn’t know the value of it.

So if the two of them happened to talk about this matter in private, Imoen would still feel heartbroken.

But if I buy them back, I will lose more money - and no one will buy them anyway - so those magic arrows have been kept in the Friendly Arm. The current record is a nine-ring archdruid and a lich, which can be said to be a good use of them.

I'm not familiar with the plot of the siege of Dragonspear, but my rough prediction is as follows: Aasimar's divine appeal is ultimately inferior to that of a genuine paladin. However, Shiji is still murdered. Although Apodel tries to prove himself, Antar Silvershield refuses to listen and insists on using his influence as Grand Duke to forbid Apodel Adrian from returning to Baldur's Gate. -> Plot of Volume 3

At the same time, during the story, Imon officially changed his job from a thief to a mage.

At the beginning of Baldur's Gate 2, Khalid and Danahel were killed, their bodies desecrated and unable to be resurrected, and the team was reduced by 1/3.

Later, Chanem's route was to rescue Imoen first and then go to the map. So Imoen returned to the team very early, and the road to rescuing Imoen was also extremely difficult.

During this time, Mr. Turnip Gnome, Yoan, and Yoshimo all joined the team because they couldn't do without a mage. Yoan, lacking ambition, left after the Battle of the Throne of Bhaal. Yoshimo died while trying to save Imoen.

During Baldur's Gate II, Chanem's primary weapons were the Daystar and the Holy Avenger. Before acquiring the Daystar, his encounter with the Lich was one of the most near-death battles Apodel had ever faced.

While on his way to retrieve the Holy Avenger, Chanem was bewitched by the red dragon Gildan Felcrag, forcing him to engage in battle with a group of paladins bewitched by an illusion. But just as he was about to make a catastrophic mistake, the goddess of magic performed a miracle, dispelling the illusion and preventing the tragic death of his fellow paladins—a moment in Chanem's life when he came closest to breaking his oath.

Finally, after a long series of plans, Chanem successfully killed the Red Dragon, obtained the Holy Avenger, and began to kill indiscriminately.

In Baldur's Gate II, the only paladin class with a strong enough power is the Inquisitor, capable of dispelling magic at 2x CL. However, in ADND2E, virtually any paladin, when holding a holy sword, can deploy an energy field similar to a one-way anti-magic field.
