You made me worry so much. When you come back, I will slap you hard!

Postscript to Volume 12

Thank you readers for purchasing this volume 12 of "Ordinary Occupations".

I like the author of Chu Er's style the most - Bai Miliang.

Since the last episode was released, we readers have been waiting for a long time. I wonder if you like this episode?

It's natural to want to add as much new content as possible when releasing a book version. However, since this episode is about the final battle, everything I wanted to describe has already been written in the web version, so I didn't add much extra content this time.

But to be honest, when I was planning the plot, I had intended to describe the detailed process of conquering the spaces that Hajime and his crew passed through before the battle with the mythical beasts, as well as the past events of Fried and Uranus.

After I wrote it, I realized how superfluous it all was, completely unnecessary. It was like using spatial rupture magic to disrupt the rhythm and flow of the story. (Incidentally, Fried's story was later decided to be included in the short stories available as a shop bonus. Interested readers should definitely check it out. Although this isn't something I should mention in this postscript.)

The story of the battlefield on the ground will be the content of the next episode. So in the end, there is no additional plot, but the article is more detailed than the website version.

I hope that this book has met everyone's expectations after keeping them waiting for so long. I also hope that this book can help you pass the time during the New Year.

Also, the name of the Black Knife Group was initially criticized on the website by netizens as too corny, so I spent two days rolling around on the floor and came up with a new name. It has a hint of "Chubby" vibe, so it should be pretty cool, right? ...No?

I really envy other writers and teachers who can always come up with a lot of trendy names. What kind of structure is their brain? It's okay to have only the right brain. I wish they could give me a piece of their brain like Anpanman.

Next, let’s talk about Meredith, who appears last.

The "Zero" side story, the story of another protagonist in the "Ordinary Job" series, finally concluded with Volume 6. If possible, I hope that readers will understand Mireidi's life before reading the final volume of the main story.

Also, by the time this book is released, the second season of the anime should have been released as well. (Editor's note: This refers to the Japanese publishing situation.)

In the extra chapter, I describe Yue and Kaori's memories. The chronology overlaps with the anime. It's interesting to watch the extra chapter while watching the anime and get to know the backstory. It might even give you a different perspective on the relationship between the two characters.

In any case, in addition to the main story, please also support the "Zero" series and the animated version.

Finally, there is the acknowledgment section.

I'm truly grateful to Takayaki-sensei, the editor-in-chief, the proofreader, and everyone else who worked so hard to help bring this book to life. I'm also deeply grateful to the writers who drew the various manga versions.

At the same time, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all my readers.

The next episode will finally be the last one. Please support "Ordinary Occupation" until the end. Thank you!

Volume 12 Special: Liberator Myuu and her new friend?

[※Contains spoilers, recommended to read after reading this novel]

—Roar!

The terrifying roar shook the solemn underground space.

It was the lowest level of the abyss, the final test hall before Oscar Orcus's secret residence.

Of course, the roaring sound came from──

"This is Hydra... Such a strong sense of oppression!"

"This is just the multi-head mode, don't be scared, Kaori. The 'Silver Head' that comes next is the real show."

Yes, it was Hydra. The multi-headed monster that Hajime and Yue had fought desperately against before. Now, it appeared before their eyes again.

However, this time, Hajime's partner is Kaori.

Not only Hydra, but all the monsters in the Great Labyrinth have reappeared in their original locations. This fact is immediately discovered when the group returns here to prepare for the final battle.

Of course, Hajime was a successful conqueror, so even if he entered the test hall, Hydra would not appear. But Kaori was different.

When she was with Hajime, the magic circle that summoned Hydra would not react. But when she entered the trial hall alone, as expected, the guardian appeared dutifully.

Even if Kaori could defeat Xudela, she did not start from the first level. As long as the magic circle senses this fact, it will not recognize Kaori as the successful conqueror.

However, this is not a problem.

After all, Hajime's goal was to confront Hydra once again. More precisely, to study the "Silver-Patterned Head" that appeared after defeating Hydra in its multi-headed mode, and to find a way to defeat Freed's strongest servant, the White Dragon Uranus.

"It's coming! Watch out for the blackhead! It will awaken the opponent's psychological shadows!"

"How can you have such a disgusting ability!?"

The heads, each with a red, blue, or green pattern on their foreheads, each spit out dragon breath that could emit fire, frost, and wind blades. Kaori spread her wings and flew into the air, dodging the attack. Hajime also used his "air power" to dodge the attack by swiftly dashing through the air.

"When Yue was hit by that move, she was unable to move."

"How could Yue be like that!? Isn't her resistance to magic very high!?"

"Yeah. She had tears in her eyes when she remembered how I left her behind. So cute."

“Don’t show off! Hajime-kun is a complete idiot—!”

Kaori's disintegration magic, ignited by jealousy and rage, was directed at the white-headed one in charge of recovery. The yellow-headed one in charge of defense reached out to block it, but it was the most vicious magic in the world, emanating from the Apostle of God, and was no match for it.

The yellow-headed one could only hold out for a few moments before being reduced to dust along with the white-headed one behind it, without even having time to recover.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Hajime used explosive bombs to take care of the remaining heads.

The experience accumulated during the journey, the magic of the Age of Gods obtained, and the artifacts developed and evolved based on these, even Hydra is no match for Hajime.

Then, a head with silver patterns popped out.

Compared to last time, Hajime, who was now at ease, was now in a good mood to observe his opponent. His appearance, reflecting a faint light, was indeed majestic, like a monster or mythical beast described in ancient books.

The silver-headed man looked down upon the two of them. Then—

"Okay, let's start hunting! Make sure to skin it!"

"Um... just cut it off at the root, right?"

"That's right! I'm going to thoroughly dissect, analyze, mix, separate, and perform all sorts of experiments on every part of your body! We can worry about the reactions in living organisms later! Now let's collect the materials!"

Silverhead paused.

Isn't the challenger's reaction a little strange? And sir, didn't you already succeed? Why are you still here? Why are you looking so hungry, like a ravenous beast? Why are you approaching me with a smile?! — Silverhead seemed to be thinking this, his reaction looking a little embarrassed.

"Hehehe, immortal experiment subjects... I like them the most!"

“…Hajime-kun, your expression is too fierce, it’s almost restricted.”

The face of the Mad Alchemist was undoubtedly ferocious in Silverhead's eyes. If he were to catch him, he would surely suffer horrible treatment.

— Uaaaaaaaaaah!

The silver head roared, and the sound sounded like shouting "Don't come over!" At the same time, it emitted an aurora dragon breath and swept towards him.

but……

The result was inevitable. Afterwards, the recurring silver head was chopped off several times, its body parts disassembled, and continuously stripped and made into materials.

not only,

"Dad, the meat is ready!"

There was clearly a kitchen in the secret residence, but for some reason, Hajime insisted on making a fire with wood in front of the door and roasted Xudela's meat to fill his stomach.

Of course, this was for Hajime alone. Last time, he'd eaten Hydra's flesh, which had significantly boosted his strength and even enabled him to master the "Limit Break." Even if he couldn't increase his strength further this time, if he continued eating, perhaps he could gain resistance to the Aurora. This time, eating the meat was also a convenient way to test his hypothesis.

Hajime repeated these actions for a while.

After more than ten subjugation attempts, Myuu, who was in charge of the barbecue, had improved his grilling skills to the point where he could be called a barbecue expert. At this moment...

──Kill me... Kill me...

"Eh? W-what?"

Myuu suddenly heard a strange sound, and her whole body twitched. The source of the sound seemed close, and Myuu looked around hurriedly.

But there was no one around. Could it be an illusion? Myuu tilted his head in confusion, then once again inspected the meat with the eyes of a barbecue expert, rotating the sticks to ensure even heating.

—Me…Kill me…

“There really is a sound!”

Myuu jumped up. Hajime and Kaori were still hunting, and the sounds of fierce fighting could be heard. Even so, Myuu could still clearly hear this strange sound. The source of the sound was very close - no, not just close, it was like...

—I am speaking directly to your mind.

"Who is it? Where are you?"

—I’m right in front of you… Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!?

"What’s wrong with you!?"

The voice in his head suddenly wailed, then stopped. At the same time, the silver head fell down again with a heavy thud.

"Could it be..." Myuu thought of a possibility.

"Could it be that you are... Mr. Hydra?"

Then, a reassuring thought reached her. It seemed Myuu's suspicions were correct. Hajime and Kaori appeared oblivious to the thought, but only Myuu could hear it. While she didn't know why, she knew why Hydra had spoken to her.

It must want Myu to stop this endless cycle of crusade that is like hell.

Miao didn't expect that Xudela had such a clear will, and a sense of guilt suddenly surged in his heart.

"But, Mr. Hydra! You've been killed so many times! Even if Myuu were to kill you, I wouldn't know what to do!"

Myuu answered as a matter of course.

—No, it's just a metaphor. I don't really want to die, you know? You have to understand the underlying meaning.

"Uh, yes, I'm sorry."

Huh? Strangely, she suddenly felt irritated, and her guilt faded... Although her mouth twitched stiffly, Myuu kindly asked, "Then what should Myuu do?"

──Needless to say? Just stop that crazy person.

"...Did you just say that Daddy has a brain problem? Eh!? This is weird! Myuu suddenly can't hear anything!"

──I apologize, please forgive me.

A very oppressive smile appeared on Miao's face, exactly the same as her mother's.

Xudela's reaction was surprisingly frank, or rather, approachable. Its clear will alone was surprising enough, but Myuu was even more surprised by its docile nature.

But it soon screamed again because of being conquered.

—Wow, I'm a test for the maze, a guardian beast! How can you treat me like a test animal? This is too much! This is truly too cruel. Wow, wow...

Hydra cried plaintively, earning Myu's sympathy. Then, Myu poked his head out of the door of his secret quarters and shouted to Hajime, who had begun his campaign again:

"Dad~! Is it about time to stop? Mr. Hydra is crying!"

"Haha, Myuu is such a kind child! But don't worry, monsters don't feel sad, and they don't cry! That's just an illusion!"

"No, no! Myuu really heard Hydra-san's voice..."

"Myuu, Daddy is going to teach you an important lesson! Listen carefully!"

While beating the six heads into a honeycomb, Hajime's father said with a smile.

"Focus on the important things, everything else is trivial! To save Yue, it doesn't matter what the monsters do! Do you understand?"

"Uh, yes. Please go on, Daddy."

"Good boy!"

At the end of his speech, Hajime's father's expression turned serious for a moment. Myuu could only smile and give up.

Then, she spoke to the empty sky.

"There's nothing I can do."

——Despair.

The voice in her head spoke again, sounding frustrated. Myuu was a bit bewildered, then asked kindly, "Is there anything else Myuu can help with? Myuu will do her best!" The Hydra in her mind seemed hesitant, and then—

——In that case, little child of the sea, come to my side.

Myu tilted his head, his mind suddenly knowing exactly where he was supposed to go. It was like speaking directly into his head; Xudela had used the same method to make Myu understand.

Before moving, Myuu wanted to tell Hajime and Kaori something. Just as she was about to call them...

—Don't tell him...don't tell him...or he'll be subjected to new experiments...

Xu Dela's tone was so sad and fearful that Mu couldn't help but raise his head.

——Save me, at least let me get out of here. Please, save me...

"Okay, okay, Myuu, I promise you, stop crying!"
