Using his wand to open the way to Diagon Alley, Old Reed said with a smile:
"Welcome to the world of magic, kid."
In fact, I have already experienced the world of magic last night...but that's not the point.
The point is that neither the novel nor the movie mentioned that this trash can was actually put into use!
Adam, who was a little bit of a clean freak, didn't look too happy, but he still cooperated and smiled in surprise.
After actually entering Diagon Alley, Adam's mood went up and down.
At first he was indeed surprised by the magical powers that appeared from time to time around him, but perhaps his expectations were too high. As he gradually got used to it, he became disappointed with the shabby atmosphere that filled his face.
The real Diagon Alley is not as glamorous as shown in Universal Studios or the movies. There are many wizards coming and going on the narrow street, which seems a bit cramped. Everywhere you look, you can see stains and garbage in the corners that have not been cleaned for who knows how many years...
"Except for a few shops that have been specially cleaned up, and the luxurious Gringotts, most places seem to be stuck in the last century. I even worry that a bucket of manure will be poured down from them at some point."
After returning home, Adam complained to Mr. Reed and Ms. Li.
"…Do they take a shower?"
Ms. Li swallowed the speech she had prepared and asked a somewhat subtle question instead.
And Adam's expression made the issue even more delicate.
"Doesn't that person take a shower?"
After another source of the stench passed by, Adam pulled on old Reed's sleeve and whispered a similar rhetorical question.
"Well... you have to know that some older wizards are more traditional. They believe that taking a bath will affect their magic... Of course, most people still like to be clean."
Old Reed, who was excited to introduce his grandson, also found that his grandson didn't seem as surprised as he imagined, so he walked forward quickly with Adam:
"We must first buy a wand. This is your first step into the magical world!"
Hearing this, Adam's heart beat a little faster - he already had the Staff of Darkness, he wondered if that would affect his choice of wand?
"Oh, welcome—"
It seemed that it was because it was still the beginning of the school year. Ollivander was waiting diligently behind the counter. When he looked up, he saw Adam and old Reed behind him - Emma had gone to Tovan Clothing Store. Ollivander's Wand Shop was too small. Thousands of wand boxes almost filled up the shop, and so many people could not get in.
"Twelve inches, dogwood, unicorn tail hair."
Ollivander seemed to have the ability to remember every wand he had ever made. He looked at Old Reed and sighed:
"Mr. Reed, how long has it been since we last met?"
"It has been nearly fifty years since we last met, Mr. Ollivander."

Old Reed also had some emotion, and then patted Adam on the shoulder:
"Help my grandson choose a wand that's right for him. The wands you make are always the best."
“I dare not say it is the best, but I guarantee it is the most suitable.”
Ollivander showed a confident smile on his face and looked at Adam:
"So, Mr. Reed, which is your dominant hand?"
"Right hand, sir."
Adam hesitated, because he was not sure which wand he would have as his dominant hand, so he asked when Ollivander took out his ruler:
"Can I use my wand with my other hand?"
"Oh, are you dominant in both hands? Okay."
Ollivander nodded and continued to measure Adam with his ruler.
The length of fingers, the width of palms, the length of arms...even the diameter of nostrils and the circumference of the head. After a series of meaningless operations, Ollivander took a wand for Adam to try.
Adam waved his hand, and the sudden strong wind almost blew the roof apart.
"No! Not this!"
Ollivander snatched the wand, took out his own wand and waved it to restore the things in the store, and then hurriedly took out another wand:
"Try this!"
Adam waved the wand with a smaller amplitude this time, but the noise it caused was no less—the violent explosion caused the wand box to fly everywhere!
"Armor protection!"
The stack of wand boxes fell down and crashed down on them, but thanks to old Reed's Shield Charm the three of them survived.
Adam took a look and luckily the explosion seemed to have only caused a loud noise. Not a single wand was damaged, and even the box was not broken, otherwise he would probably have to pay for it.
"Ah, such a huge power is beyond my expectation. Let me think about it..."
Ollivander took back his wand and started searching in the collapsed wand box -
"Try this!"
"boom--"
"No! Try this!"
"Crack-"
"Still not right!"
Ollivander grabbed the wand again, grabbed his not-particularly-thick hair, and dove into the pile of wand boxes.
Chapter 6 Mysterious Grandma
Half an hour passed in Ollivander's Wand Shop...
Adam waved the wand mechanically, and because it was required to be usable with both hands, he would switch to the other hand when one hand got sore.
He had become numb to the constant explosions ringing in his ears, which would result in various serious effects eight out of ten times. He remembered that one time a bunch of flowers actually bloomed on the tip of the wand, and he thought it was right this time, but Ollivander said it was still wrong.
Until a magic wand came into Adam's hands. As soon as he got it, Adam felt that this magic wand was different from the previous ones.
As Adam waved his wand, the wand boxes around him trembled and floated up one by one, returning to their positions. Adam also felt a completely different sense of pleasure from before, as if his body had been extended by another section.
"That's right! That's it!"
Ollivander clapped his hands:
"Sixteen inches, acacia wood, phoenix tail feathers—I knew it!"
You know nothing!
Adam almost cursed, but his good moral upbringing made him shut up and just rolled his eyes impolitely.
He seriously suspected that Ollivander actually made every possible combination to choose the wand and then exhausted them!
"Ahem... The combination of this wand is very special, so it takes so long."
Ollivander may have realized that the half-hour wand selection was a bit of a bummer, but he still struggled to explain:
"The acacia wood and the phoenix tail feathers are both very picky, not to mention the sixteen-inch length—the last sixteen-inch wand I sold belonged to a half-giant!"
Although Adam suspected that Ollivander was just quibbling, the joy of picking out his own wand made him suppress the depression of waiting for half an hour and being almost affected by explosions and lightning several times, and he carefully examined the wand in his hand.
The cylindrical dark brown staff was slender and straight, with smooth curves and runes engraved on it. The handle was a spindle surrounded by various symbols. Adam looked at the bottom of the handle... There was actually a yellow gem inlaid? !
"That gem is a yellow tourmaline that I bought from a wizard from the East. It fits perfectly with the overall magic of that wand...at no extra charge!"
Ollivander spoke at the right time.
Well, for the sake of this gem, Adam's resentment dissipated a lot.
So lovely.
After examining the wand several times, Adam couldn't help but wonder in his heart.
A sixteen-inch wand is considered super long among magic wands, but Adam's Dark Wand is a head taller than others. In comparison, this wand is considered small. Adam even thinks it is a little cute.
After checking out and paying, and buying the most important and most uncertain wand, Old Reed took Adam into shopping mode.
Owl, snacks, cauldron, snacks, potion materials, snacks, school uniforms, snacks, books, …
Not to mention that there was a small stall selling all kinds of snacks just a few steps away, Adam lingered in Flourish and Blotts for a long time.
He did not forget that the growth of magic power is closely related to knowledge, so he wanted to buy and read many books that Hogwarts did not require. Besides, he was somewhat curious about things in the wizarding world, especially those parts that did not appear in the original novels or the movies.
So Adam signed an order for a two-foot-long piece of parchment, and the books would be sent to Hogwarts, where Grandpa said the house-elves would take care of it.
"That's a broomstick. First years aren't allowed to bring broomsticks."
After saying this, Old Reed hesitated:
"But if you want, we can buy one and keep it at home."
"No, Grandpa. I'm not very interested in broomsticks."
Adam declined this offer, which should have been very tempting to a child.
"Do you think the Nimbus 2000 is expensive? Grandpa and grandma are actually very rich."
"Mom and Dad gave me a lot of money, Grandpa."
The Nimbus 2000 was indeed very expensive, but Mr. Reed and Ms. Li had originally planned to send Adam to Eton College - the tuition at Eton College was more than pounds a year, for a total of five years, and both of them had reserved this large amount of tuition. As a result, Adam suddenly wanted to go to Hogwarts, which was free of charge - Ms. Li waved her hand and directly handed the original tuition to Adam.
"Boys can't be raised in poverty, otherwise they will live a frugal life and how can they broaden their horizons? Especially when they are in an unfamiliar environment."
"I just think that since I can't take it to Hogwarts now, it's not worth buying it right away - maybe they will have a new model next year?"
In fact, there will be Nimbus 2001 next year, and Firebolt the year after that... The more I think about this thing, the more it looks like an Apple phone.
And if Adam wanted to fly, there is a Flying Card in the Clow Deck. If the Dark Wand grew wings, it would become a flying broom, and if he grew wings himself, he could fly directly. Why spend so much money to buy a flying broom that would be surpassed by better products in a year?
A rich second-generation once said it well: I am rich but I am not stupid.
After buying things from one end of Diagon Alley to the other, Grandma picked up Emma at the Tofan Clothing Store, and then took Adam to buy things from one end back to the other. However, Grandma's main consumption target was obviously different from Grandpa's.
"Alan! Are you going to let your precious grandson wear only one set of school uniform for a whole semester at Hogwarts?"
"Caresuits, pajamas... and a few more dresses... Doesn't Hogwarts have balls? I can't even imagine it... No, I still have to buy some, just in case I need them?"
"A magic wand needs to be cared for. Otherwise, what if it breaks down while casting a spell? Buy a few more sets of maintenance tools. There's no need to save money on this."

"You need to prepare a few extra pairs of dragonhide gloves. Some potion materials are best handled with separate dragonhide gloves. Besides that, if your classmates forget to bring their own, you can lend them to them to build good relations."
"Prepare more potion materials, and buy some white fresh essence. Carry a bottle with you, so that if there is a wound somewhere, you can treat it directly... The nurses in the medical wing can't fly directly to Adam. Shut up, Alan!"
……
After going back and forth to Diagon Alley to buy two rounds of food and using snacks as lunch, Emma glanced at the packages in the two people's hands, and then looked at Old Reed:
"Alan, take these things back first. Adam and I will go shopping."
Old Reed carried the two people's packages with great difficulty by himself. On top of the packages was a huge birdcage - there was a snowy owl inside.
"Well, you guys had fun, come back for dinner tonight?"
"uncertain."
Emma answered quickly, and it was obvious that she would most likely not go back for dinner.
"Uh, okay."
Old Reed nodded, guarded the gift and walked away.
"Grandpa, why don't you use magic to carry your luggage?"
Emma looked at Adam in surprise:
"Magic is something that requires concentration. It's easy to get into trouble when you're casting a spell while doing other things. Don't do that in the future."
"Is that so?"
Adam nodded thoughtfully.
Is it possible that grandpa is too weak?
After lunch, Emma wiped her mouth and took Adam to a deserted corner.
"Grandma?" Why are you so mysterious...
