I will never give in to Miss Death
Page 218
Well... just like Yin Xiamo said, I now feel like my whole body is sweating profusely, even my underwear is wet.
But am I really stupid enough to run to the rooftop alone to bask in the sun and ask Xiaomo for help?
"Really, really, look, didn't I go find water for you?"
Yin Xiamo gestured to the thermos cup in her hand: "Would you like some more?"
"I brought water in my backpack."
It was only then that I noticed that my bunny bag was missing: "Where's my bag?"
"it's here."
Yin Xiamo quickly ran to the other side of the bushes, took my bag, and patted the bunny ears on it: "It seems that Nuoer has completely adapted to this pink decoration?"
"How can it be!"
I took the backpack and subconsciously retorted, "I just don't have a usable bag!"
The uncle’s bag broke before, but since there’s a ready-made one here I can use, there’s no need for me to waste money buying a new one.
"Yes, yes, yes, Noer is the cutest in the world."
The girl came closer: "I want a kiss."
"Go! Go! Go."
I waved my hands in disdain: "It's so hot, and you're not ashamed."
"Don't be ashamed, don't be ashamed. Just now we were... um."
"What did we do just now?"
I sensed something was wrong: "You didn't do anything to me while I was unconscious, did you?"
"No, no, how could it be possible? It's in public."
Yin Xiamo waved her hands repeatedly: "There are so many people around here, ahem...right? And Nuo'er is unconscious again, I definitely can't take advantage of her."
How many times have you taken advantage of others?
"Okay, okay, as a favor to me, I'll just give you a kiss."
I put on my bunny backpack: "Kiss on the cheek."
"No."
The girl came closer: "Mouth."
"Just now you said it was in public..."
After all, Xiaomo saved me, and we have a very good relationship, so I reluctantly stuck to her.
"Come on."
"All right."
Wiping the corners of my mouth, I looked around the grove and asked, "How do I get out of here?"
"This way."
Yin Xiamo took my hand directly and said, "The road here is quite complicated. Let me take you out."
"Ok?"
At this time, I noticed that Xiaomo's hands seemed to have been soaked in water for a long time, just like mine. The skin on the front of many fingers was wrinkled. "Were you playing in the spring underground just now?"
"No."
Yin Xiamo said vaguely: "Maybe it was because I was learning to ride a bicycle when I came here just now... uh, I sweated a lot."
Is this what happens if you sweat a lot?
"That kind of thing is okay. Noer, you probably haven't had lunch yet, right? Let's go eat together."
As if to divert my attention, Yin Xiamo pulled me and ran quickly out of the grove: "I just checked on my phone, there is a buffet restaurant nearby that looks particularly stylish!"
“Buffet is expensive!”
"It's okay, it's my treat. It's worth it no matter how expensive the buffet is with Nuoer!"
"And Nuoer, you have just recovered, so you must eat well to keep your spirits and vitality, otherwise you will be embarrassed at the author conference this afternoon."
"..."
Why do I always feel like... I seem to have forgotten something important?
Moreover, I feel stupid at this moment, just like...
Just like a little Loli who was kidnapped by a weird uncle.
……
In the end, Yin Xiamo took me to the buffet next to the art exhibition.
"128 yuan per person, 100 yuan deposit, no refund if there is any waste!"
"Please don't waste food, this is a non-smoking restaurant..."
In this buffet restaurant that sounds super expensive, Yin Xiamo took my hand and went to the front desk without hesitation: "Tickets for two, thank you!"
"Okay, the total for two people is 456 yuan, including a deposit of 200 yuan, thank you."
"I'll scan the code."
"..."
To be honest, I personally don’t really like buffets.
Especially...after I became a little loli.
The key to a buffet is "self-service". How much you can eat depends on your ability. Some people are tall, about 1.80 meters or 1.90 meters tall, weighing more than 200 kilograms. It is definitely more cost-effective for them to eat at a buffet than to buy the ingredients and cook them by themselves. But for a child like me... well, a little girl, eating a buffet that costs more than 100 yuan, I feel like I am losing money no matter how I calculate it.
If I have to count, my appetite is only slightly more than that of Dingman, the largest Maine Coon in the cat cafe.
Timon's previous owner had the habit of feeding him at a fixed time, and would only feed him when the time came. Unlike the automatic feeders in coffee shops, which would spit out as much as the cat ate, according to Timon's previous owner, Timon could eat a large spoonful of cat food on an empty stomach, and that spoon was about the size of our ceramic soup spoon.
I usually eat in a special small bowl in a coffee shop, and then add a small dish of vegetables and meat to make myself full.
Asking me to come to the buffet is basically giving money to the manager here for free. It feels like Xiaomo bringing a cat here - "Waiter, two tickets, my cat counts as a person too."
The store manager is basically like Qin Shi Huang touching the electrical wires - he's screwed.
Come to think of it, why do I always feel that Xiaomo brought me to the buffet restaurant with the intention of... compensating Nuoer?
Did she do something wrong?
Or am I overthinking? Is Xiaomo just simply worried about my recovery from the heat stroke, so she took the initiative to spend money?
Well, forget it.
If you can’t remember, don’t think about it. Since Xiaomo doesn’t feel like she’s losing money, the most important thing is to be happy.
Thinking of this, I followed Yin Xiamo and took the tray of food.
"Thank you Xiaomo."
"Eh?"
"Thank you for saving me from heat stroke and treating me to a delicious meal."
"Ah, nothing... nothing..."
"..."
……
No, the ultimate secret of 180 catnip!
After having a sumptuous buffet with Xiaomo, I returned to the exhibition hall with a big belly, holding the hand of the girl next to me.
As it was already afternoon, there were a lot of people in the exhibition hall, and many of them gave me a very "high-end" feeling. Many of them even carried professional cameras or led professional filming teams.
Especially in the comics and anime area, at a glance it was full of reporters and media professionals, many of whom were happily reporting on the surroundings -
"Good afternoon, everyone watching TV. This is Shenbin Animation. I am the host, Xiaoman. Today we have come to the anime section on the second floor of the art exhibition. You can see that many anime fans have gathered here..."
"What will the future of our Chinese comics be like? Let's follow the camera together..."
"The person in front of our screen now is the famous cartoonist Shijiufan. I believe that the older generation of cartoon fans know him. Shijiufan once published the popular cartoon "Rabbit Gang"..."
Thinking that a short walk after dinner would be good for health, I took Yin Xiamo and started walking around the exhibition.
"If you want to be an author, you can learn more about us. It's easy to sign a contract, and the editor will provide one-on-one guidance. Once you sign the contract, you will get recommendations!"
"Manjiang.com welcomes writers and authors from all walks of life to join us, and also welcomes readers to visit us. The subscription price of our website is as low as 3 cents for 1000 words! It doesn't cost even a dime to read a chapter of a novel!"
"There is no threshold for signing up for this site. If you write more than 5000 words a day, you will get a perfect attendance award!"
"..."
Walking around the literature district and looking at the dazzling array of novel website stalls around me, I had the first feeling that "signing contracts seems to have become something as easy to get as cabbage."
Due to some historical reasons, our current novel websites are still dominated by the structure of "one super and many strong". Currently, the majority of novel traffic on the Internet is on "Origin", followed by some "Tomato Novel", "Fei Fei Novel", "Xijiang Novel" and so on.
Judging from the structure of the literary area, the monopoly position of "Origin" novels does not seem to be just a little bit, but has reached a particularly exaggerated level.
Yuandian and all its affiliated novel websites now occupy nearly one-third of the entire art exhibition's literary area.
As the largest two-dimensional light novel website, "Miguabao Novel Network" should have a very large scale. If I remember correctly, the top authors here can earn hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars in royalties a month. It is said that if the top three authors on the Miguabao ranking list are recommended, they can update their works again. Not to mention writing 30 words a month, even if they only write about 20 words, their monthly royalties can be to yuan.
Especially in recent month, Miguabao has merged with Yaedang Novel Network, which focuses on fantasy and urban novels. Now Miguabao’s overall weight should be very large. Yaedang was a website in very good operating condition before its bankruptcy. Although its traffic is not as good as Miguabao, it is more or less a normal and profitable novel website. Top authors like Pipi can earn hundreds of thousands of yuan. The reason for its bankruptcy is only because of the poor management of the boss Lu Xinjian and his daughter’s affairs.
Yaedang is profitable as a whole, but their parent company, the computer accessories company that Lu Xinjian is focusing on, is not. As a result, Yaedang needs to provide reverse transfusions to its parent company, and over time it has incurred losses.
So the cash flow problem has been solved, and there is definitely nothing wrong with the main body of Yaedo that has been merged into Miguabao... However, Miguabao and Yaedo, both of which are "top" novel websites among small and medium-sized websites, only occupy a very small space in the literature area.
It's like... just here to serve as a foil.
Actually, Honeydew Bag is not bad. I see that there are many unpopular small companies and small websites here that don’t even have formal stores or books to publish. There are just two staff members sitting in a small tent, a banner hanging at the door, and a platform full of website introductions.
What these small websites mainly promote are "no threshold for signing contracts" or "high attendance rewards". If an outsider comes and sees that signing contracts is so simple, he will rush to consult and chat with the editors of these small websites. He will feel like he can become a god, sign the contract on the spot, and start writing books directly when he gets home. Little do they know that these books will eventually end up in the library of the small website.
In the noisy art exhibition, I stood in front of a small shop with a sign that said “Manjiang Novel Network” and looked at the billboard hanging at the door.
[No threshold for signing] [One-on-one guidance from editor] [Full attendance only requires 3000 words per day] [The shareholder behind it is XX listed company]
Advertising slogans like these make me laugh and cry.
If I were a new author, I would probably have been tricked into signing a contract by now.
However, as an old author who was once cheated and wrote a novel of hundreds of thousands of words for a small website and didn't get a penny in the end, I can basically see the routine of this website at a glance.
Signing a contract with no threshold means that as long as you have written a novel, you can sign a contract with this novel website. Many new authors who have never entered this industry may think that "signing a contract" means being a "big shot". However, signing a contract only means that you have signed a contract with the company. It is basically the same as signing a contract with the landlord when you rent a house, or signing a "loan contract" when you lend money to others.
When you sign a contract with a novel website or a tenant signs a contract with a landlord, it is essentially a contract. Party A and Party B list their obligations and responsibilities, list the breach of contract plan, list the rules and regulations... Both parties hold what they need, and when it is finalized, they sign and the contract is completed.
For example, Yin Xiamo and I, Party A and Party B, the contract states that Yin Nuoer is Yin Xiamo's master, and Yin Xiamo becomes Yin Nuoer's wife unconditionally. Both parties signed a contract, even if it is not unequal, it is still a contract.
Similarly, some novel websites sign a contract with you, stipulating that you, as Party A, must write a certain number of words every month, while our novel website, as Party B, only needs to supervise your writing and does not pay any royalties. This is also a kind of contract.
Experienced authors only pay attention to the content of the contract, the obligations of both parties, and the rights and interests they can get. Newcomers see the word "signed" and think it is a symbol of some big boss, so they go and sell themselves out, claiming to the outside world that they are also "signed big bosses." In fact, they are just deceived by the website to act as a library.
Secondly... "one-on-one guidance from editors" and so on. Now, all editors of any website will provide "one-on-one guidance". As long as you sign a contract, most editors will help you read your book and give you suggestions for revisions. After all, if your novel becomes popular, he or she will also get a commission as your editor-in-chief.
Then there is "full attendance only requires updating 3000 words per day", which is not easy for me to comment on, because each website has different standards for full attendance. For example, there are two conditions for Miguabao to get full attendance: 1. You can stop updating for one day a month without any responsibility (and update at least 2000 words every other day), 2. The number of words updated each month must be at least the number of days in that month x 3000 words.
Miguabao's full attendance requirement is easy to understand. Every author can take one day off every month without applying to the editor or reporting to the backstage. They can stop updating on any day, and then update at least 2000 words every day for the remaining days. By the end of the month, the total updated volume is 3000 words multiplied by the number of days in the month.
For example, there are 31 days in May, so the author needs to update 31 times 3000, which is 93000 words. You can stop updating on any day, or update suddenly on any day, or just take a steady approach of 3000 words a day. For example, I will stop updating on May 5st, start writing on May 1nd, and only update 5 words a day, and keep updating 2 words a day until the 2000st. On May 2000st, I wake up and check the background and find that the number of words I updated this month is only more than 31 words. No, in order to have full attendance, I have to update 5 words suddenly on May 31st, and make up 6 words to get full attendance. This is also possible.
As for Miguabao’s “Perfect Attendance”, basically as long as you write it yourself and meet the requirements, you can receive it.
However, some websites say something like “You can get full attendance if you update 3000 words a day”, which is only half the story. When you sign the contract, it states that “the novel must get 100 monthly tickets that month to get the full attendance award” or “the number of collections must increase by 1000 that month to activate the full attendance award”. New authors don’t pay attention, sign the contract, put the new book on the shelves, and happily update for a month, but oh no, there are only 99 monthly tickets, and the full attendance award is gone.
This type of contract is particularly common on some newly opened websites, which have basically no readers. Even if your novel is posted on the homepage of the website, it will not get many clicks. Then their contract states that "there must be 100 readers of the novel before a full attendance reward will be issued." In other words, it means that the author's manuscript is being taken away for free.
Similar tactics are just like not specifying the CPU, graphics card, and power supply models when configuring a computer, but only noting "quad-core powerful CPU", "super large power supply", "top graphics card, enjoy 4A gaming", which are all rogue behaviors.
"What's up, little sister? Are you interested in our website?"
Perhaps because he saw me standing in front of the “Manku Novel Network” billboard for a few seconds, the uncle who was playing with his phone stood up and asked, “Have you ever written a novel before?”
"Eh?"
