"Follow me," said the Lord of Branqug.

......

The road after Wanghai Cliff seemed flat. Toyokawa Shoko was prepared to put in some effort, but it was actually not difficult to walk on.

At the foot of Wanghai Cliff, seagulls build nests and fly in groups.

These white and noisy birds circled above their heads, observing with sharp eyes whether the passers-by had any food in their hands. Unfortunately, they found none, so they flapped their wings and flew away.

"This is a great place to relax, but I don't recommend having a picnic here." Heber pointed toward the cliffs, "unless you want your good mood to be ruined by seagulls along with your food."

There are three kinds of messengers on Branco Island: crows, doves and seagulls, and they bring new news all the time.

Even the Silent Bookstore had reserved some space to accommodate these messengers.

Toyokawa Shoko followed Heber closely, listening carefully and observing her surroundings with wide eyes. She saw an open-air garden that had not been maintained for a long time, a space surrounded by walls, and two tall towers standing in the distance.

"This is the Fragrance Garden. It's a shame it's been abandoned for a long time. I'm not a keen gardener, but if you're interested you could plant some flowers here."

"That walled area is the martial arts garden," Heber said. "Many people used to practice sparring there. If it weren't enclosed by a wall, some strange phenomena might occur."

There was nothing special about Heber's tone, but Shoko Toyokawa shook her shoulders warily.

Her heart, which had just been softened by the beautiful scenery, was immediately hardened by the unknown danger.

Toyokawa Shoko wanted to ask Heber what the "strange phenomenon" was, but Heber did not go into details. Instead, he took her through the martial arts garden and the tower and walked into the corridor courtyard.

Compared to the Fragrant Garden, this corridor courtyard is much neater, and the tranquil atmosphere makes people slow down their pace.

"Here, Gyrfalcons bloom in the summer, and blue crown flowers bloom in the winter," Heber said. "In short, I don't have to worry about these two plants, which saves me a lot of time and effort."

The heavy door opened silently in front of Heber, and the solemn white hallway was revealed behind it.

In the recessed corridor, artifacts dating back hundreds, even thousands of years were displayed. From solemn statues to a small bronze tripod with four legs, to stone slabs inscribed with obscure characters, and a shepherd's staff standing nearby... the weight of dozens of centuries weighed down Shoko Toyokawa, leaving her speechless.

Heber took up the slate.

She picked up a pen and wrote a new name on the slate.

At the highest point of Branco, the great bronze bell began to sway and was about to roar.

Heber didn't even raise his head: "Quiet."

Then the bronze bell that was about to ring fell silent in an instant, with only the faint after-sound echoing in the air.

Thirty Days in Branquage: 139 Day

When Heber left Shoko Toyokawa's name on the stone slab, it meant that she officially became the librarian of Silent Bookstore.

"Congratulations, congratulations." Heber applauded to show his congratulations.

If her tone had been more varied, perhaps the celebration would have been more solemn.

For a moment, Shoko Toyokawa didn't know whether to smile or look sad.

If I say I'm happy, it means that my future life is destined to be not easy; but if I say I'm unhappy, I'm the second in command in such a powerful and secretive organization.

Toyokawa Shoko felt a mixture of emotions. To hide her feelings, she subconsciously opened the can of Coke in her hand and took a sip.

"Uh......"

Heber saw Toyokawa Shoko's face wrinkle.

Shoko Toyokawa's delicate facial features were all twisted together. She subconsciously wanted to throw away the can of soda with an indescribable taste in her hand, but in a flash she realized that this was the drink handed to her by Heber.

After taking two quick breaths, a fearless expression appeared on Toyokawa Shoko's face. She raised her head and drank the ginger-flavored Laoshan Cola in her hand in one gulp.

"Yes, it's delicious... Thank you very much."

Toyokawa Shoko forced another awkward laugh.

Once again, her mind raced: Was this a show of force? A warning? An assertion of authority?

"Anyway, welcome again, and congratulations on becoming librarian." The girl with beautiful green eyes extended her hand. "I'm Herbe Stanton. Call me whatever you like."

The well-proportioned, white and slender hand hovered in front of Toyokawa Shoko.

She subconsciously stretched out her hand and shook hands with him.

"So warm." Toyokawa Shoko was startled.

The warmth coming from Heber's palm almost made her nose ache.

"My name is... Toyokawa Shoko, please take care of me."

"Toyokawa—" Heber raised his eyebrows, "This surname is not common. Do you know Toyokawa Ryunosuke?"

After all, he was an old man from the late Edo period. Heber was just speaking casually and did not expect Toyokawa Shoko to explain everything.

But the latter just widened his eyes.

"Yes, I know." Toyokawa Shoko's voice was shaken by shock. "He is my great-grandfather..."

She didn't understand why Heber suddenly mentioned this name, because even within the Toyokawa family, not many people remembered this name.

Could it be that this Miss Heber in front of me had once known my great-grandfather? But that was over a hundred years ago.

Hebe suddenly felt a wind blowing from far away. She nodded calmly and said, "In that case, do you still believe in the Demon King of Mount Yuga?"

"Yes," Toyokawa Shoko replied, "but now in the Toyokawa family, only my grandfather officially worships the Demon King of Mount Ogiyama."

Hebe didn't dwell on this topic any further, but her face unconsciously softened.

In this era, when Saga, Sakata Kintoki and others have long passed away, isn't it a blessing to be able to see old friends again?

Shoko Toyokawa could also feel this change in expression.

If Heber's original gaze towards her was that of a superior looking at a subordinate, now it gave her the feeling of an elder looking at a younger person.

This kind of warm look almost made Toyokawa Shoko feel a little... uncomfortably familiar.

His own grandfather? No, he was an old man who expressed his love in a harsh way, and because his arrangements were too forceful, they might even backfire.

My own father? Not really. Perhaps he used to be a gentle man, but after that investment failure, his spirit, backbone, and past gentleness were all gone.

But in my short life, I have experienced this kind of tenderness - yes, it was my mother.

Deep down, Toyokawa Shoko felt a strong sense of guilt: What was wrong with me? I could have such a despicable thought.

A mother is a mother, a completely irreplaceable person.

This kind of thinking not only insults my deceased mother, but also insults Miss Heber in front of me... and even more so, it insults myself.

Toyokawa Shoko clenched her fists.

She followed Hebe in silence, climbing the grand spiral staircase.

After confirming Toyokawa Shoko's identity, Heber became more talkative. "There's a music room, a reading room, a restaurant, and a warehouse on the first floor. Xiaoxiang, do you want to go take a look?"

Regardless of age, generation, or status, there seems to be no problem for Hebe to call him Xiaoxiang.

Toyokawa Shoko silently agreed to the title.

"I, I want to go to the music room."

They walked through the reading room, which was filled with countless books - usually, visitors to the Silent Bookstore were only allowed here.

In the reading room, brown candlelight, lamplight, and natural light filtering through the stained glass softly cast a shadow on the bookshelves. Soft sofas, reading chairs, and footstools were arranged in sequence, and a tea set and several bags of tea were placed on the table.

Shoko Toyokawa gazed at those carriers of knowledge that could be called beautiful, and thought that even if everything else was put aside, studying here would be a great enjoyment.

But compared with the music room, the reading room's appeal to Shoko Toyokawa was negligible.

When Heber pushed open the door, even the rotation of the door hinges sounded like a beautiful arpeggio, and Toyokawa Shoko was instantly captivated by the view behind the door.

——This is a spacious and bright room with several soft-light chandeliers hanging on the ceiling. On the right side is a large window. Orange curtains are tied beside the bed, and a gray sofa is leaning against the bed and window. You can sit on the sofa at any time and look at the rolling sea outside.

But that's not all. The walls are covered in a wide variety of musical instruments. There are wind instruments from Europe, string instruments from the East, and of course, xylophones and mouth harps from the New World. On the floor are several drums, a cello, and a golden harp.

From ancient harps and flutes to emerging brass instruments and guitars, they can all be found here.

But what made Toyokawa Shoko most happy was a grand piano waiting quietly in the corner.

She took a step forward happily, then realized something and stepped back to look at Heber's face.

"The drum of canonization." Hebe pointed to a large pink African-style drum.

"Simple piano." She pursed her lips at the grand piano.

Then Heber walked to the other side of the room: "This is the birdsong harp and the vibraphone."

These four instruments are the most valuable items in the music room.

A librarian of a certain generation, passionate about music, she was proficient in vocal works but equally adept at instruments.

She was keen to give recitals - but as far as Heber was concerned, that was just a compromise without finding teammates.

So later, when the administrator's skills improved, she enlightened the four instruments she was best at, allowing them to come alive and be played and performed on their own at winter recitals.

After the librarian left his post, all the musical instruments in the room fell silent.

Heber briefly explained the origins of these instruments to Toyokawa Shoko, who stared at the piano with a complicated look in her eyes. "Miss Heber, can I try it?"

"Go ahead." Heber gestured and then sat down on the gray sofa.

Shoko Toyokawa walked over, opened the lid of the grand piano, and then placed her hands on the keys.

The piano did not resist her touch.

A stream of sweet music flowed from it, and Toyokawa Shoko's fingers tapped the keys like raindrops hitting the eaves. It was Liszt's "The Bells," with an indescribable melancholy atmosphere, yet inexplicably elicited a sense of emotion.

Toyokawa Shoko played with ecstasy, tears gradually welling up on her face, and as the piano played, the drum began to sound according to the beat.

The cello vibrated its strings lowly, and the harp began to pluck itself.

The music swirled in the room like a storm. Shoko Toyokawa stopped what she was doing, but it took a full half minute for the lingering sound to completely disappear.

The piano suddenly played a few cheerful notes.

"This is......"

"This piano has been awakened by you," Heber explained, "and it has recognized you as its new owner."

Shoko Toyokawa was a little flattered.

She has played many pianos, but this is her first time playing a live piano.

Then more instruments in the room began to secretly make sounds.

"Okay, be quiet," Heber whispered.

The noise disappeared instantly.

"You can come here anytime you want when you're free," Heber said to her, "but for now, I'll arrange your bedroom."

As a librarian, Xiaoxiang certainly couldn't sleep in the servant's room.

Since Heber had already chosen the two most comfortable rooms, Shoko Toyokawa had few choices, and she quickly picked a simple room.

There is not much decoration here, and the temperature is even lower than in other rooms. Although the furniture inside is equally luxurious and elegant, the feeling it gives people is always closely related to "paleness".

"Very good." Heber looked at his watch. "It's getting late, so I won't disturb your rest. Tomorrow, I will formally arrange your specific related work."

Heber left, and Shoko Toyokawa sat by the bed, falling into deep silence.

Brancugar, and Silent Books, are magical beyond imagination.

Shoko Toyokawa realized that she didn't seem to object to working here.

It can even be said that there is some expectation.

This was only her first day at Silent Bookstore.

P.S. Advance reminder: This book does not involve forming a band.

Thirty Days in Branquage: 140 Day

There is nothing "disharmonious" in this plain white bedroom, and even the air seems to be cooler than in other rooms.

The pure black walls and white pillars silently framed the surroundings. The flames in the fireplace flickered softly and slowly. Shoko Toyokawa lay on the bed and fell asleep. Her thoughts quickly left this body.

She seldom dreams, and the scenes in her dreams are vague, and she forgets them as soon as she wakes up.
