Just as the outside temperature exceeded 10,000 degrees Celsius, this existence, which was as silent as a dead object, finally moved.

The spinning disk paused momentarily, then, as if some immense gravitational field had suddenly activated, the surrounding space emitted a nearly silent hum. Instantly, the plasma in the entire high-temperature environment formed into twisting vortices, rushing madly toward the center of the ORT.

"Hiss!" The previously imperceptible ionization noise in the atmosphere suddenly became sharp and piercing. A fiery red and white plasma stream, like a torrent, was forcibly pulled towards the ORT's disk. The particles that once raged like a raging tide now resembled captured prey, carrying intense kinetic energy and radiation, pulled rapidly into a contraction by an invisible, devouring force.

A terrifying visual effect permeated the entire space: the high-temperature plasma was stretched, forming distinct bands of light. These bands converged from all directions and were rapidly devoured by the ORT, dragging along the residual energy flowing through the air of the Yin'er Ball. Initially, the rate of absorption seemed manageable, but soon, the ORT's "feeding" reached an unimaginable speed. The surrounding high-temperature environment began to violently distort, even causing light to refract faintly, as if the entire space were collapsing towards the center of the disk.

At the same time, this devouring was not without cost—

The chain reaction broke out in an instant.

The massive engulfment of plasma caused the surrounding particle density to drop rapidly, throwing the high-temperature pressure in the atmosphere out of balance and triggering a series of violent explosions. First, shockwaves spread through the air, followed by a series of deafening cracks, as if the very bones of heaven and earth were shattering. Over a large area, the previously roaming, high-temperature particles were rapidly evacuated, leaving behind a vacuum-like void. The surrounding air immediately collapsed inward, generating a frenzied shockwave.

These shock waves swept towards ORT like a hurricane, but when they approached the rotating silver-white disk, they were ruthlessly torn into tiny particle streams, which turned into plasma again and were sucked into its core.

The temperature did not drop as expected, but instead continued to rise due to the engulfment and chain reaction.

The plasma consumed by the ORT wasn't simply digested; rather, it was broken down and reconstructed by some unknown mechanism within it, releasing even higher-energy particle radiation. The valley's core, already a scene of doom, now took on an indescribable, distorted halo. Vast streams of radiation quietly overflowed from the disk's surface, like an overflowing energy leak. A visible aurora-like halo slowly spread across the surrounding sky.

The ORT itself, however, maintained its impassive, almost calm demeanor. Its disc continued to spin slowly, the devouring continued, the heat continued to build, and the outline of destruction became increasingly clear.

"..." Xing Qingyu was silent. Although Xing Qingyu could foresee that the effect of the attack might be minimal -

——But he didn't expect this result.

His thoughts were quickly divided. Half of the 254 threads were calculating the imbalance point of the current system's energy flow, while the other half was assigned to deducing ORT's reaction mechanism and phagocytic efficiency.

"Kenneth, the situation has changed. That thing is devouring the plasma, and the balance of the system has been broken - not only has it not stopped, it is accelerating." Xing Qingfeng said in a slightly hurried tone, "Let's retreat, don't organize the information -"

“—Go evacuate the crowd. Human lives are at stake.”

As time passed, the core of the former Crystal Valley grew increasingly desolate, as if the entire space were giving way to the ORT's feeding process. The plasma, which should have been burning and swirling violently, disappeared into the ORT's massive disk like streaks of light being sucked into a vortex.

The silent devouring continued. The surrounding high-temperature airflow and plasma particles seemed to be forcibly twisted by an invisible gravitational force, becoming increasingly dense, like light being sucked into a black hole. All the kinetic energy, radiation waves, and violent temperature fluctuations suddenly became silent.

From the surface of the disc, tiny ripples began to expand, spreading out like waves.

The deafening surroundings were instantly replaced by a brief silence. The air seemed to cease its movement, leaving the air empty and dead. And at the center of this "silence" lay the still, slowly rotating silver-white disk. It continuously absorbed and digested everything, devouring the surrounding plasma, heat energy, atoms, and even particles without exception. The ionized matter in the air, the subtle energy fluctuations, even the tiniest particles were silently swallowed. Gradually, the area surrounded by it became increasingly desolate and empty.

And in this silence, ORT seemed somewhat content.

As the devouring continued, the entire system's high-energy matter was gradually completely digested. The once swirling plasma and countless energy fluctuations were completely absorbed. Now, only the deep, cold, silver-white disk slowly rotated, the halo of light on its surface growing increasingly intense.

That subtle, almost conscious vibration further revealed its satisfaction. As the final wave of energy dissipated, the once violently oscillating air around it became unusually calm, and the heat began to dissipate. The energy reaction, which should have exploded in all directions, now solidified at the core of the disk, quietly digesting and storing it.

Protagonist's perspective: First, make a big gift to see if you can kill this thing.

Ecosystem Perspective: Damn You, I'm Going to Die

Gaia's Perspective: What the hell is going on? Is there going to be a new round of mass extinction?

ORT perspective:

The close relative I just met disappeared after greeting me, but he quickly showed me his cooking skills by using the ingredients in his nest and made a big pot of cold soup for me to drink with his particularly cool cooking skills. I was so moved. How could I not drink it all and be worthy of my friend?

As for why it is cold soup... because even if the temperature reaches 50,000 degrees Celsius, it is far lower than the temperature of the stellar atmosphere. From the perspective of the universe, it can only be said to be a cold dish.

I got a fever again for no apparent reason, and my throat hurts badly. It just so happens that what I have to write right now is a bit brain-demanding, and I can't write anything in this state, so I have to take a day off.

I can take advantage of this opportunity to lie in bed and sort out this plot, try to deduce the impact later and then turn to communication, that's it.

Volume 69: Symbiotic Relationships: . Interlingual Communication

The plasma that had been raging in Crystal Valley finally subsided.

But instead of the expected gradual cooling and return to calm, the heat reaction, at its peak, was instantly devoured by the invisible force of ORT. The entire space seemed to have been drained of its heat in an instant, the temperature plummeting, the air growing still and still, and the surrounding light instantly dimming. The once vibrant and glittering Crystal Valley was transformed into a lifeless wasteland.

The once Crystal Valley seemed to have been drained of its vitality by an invisible hand. Those countless shimmering crystals, once gleaming with dazzling light and color, now seemed to have been stripped of their souls, becoming dry and barren, losing their original brilliance and becoming a silent ruin, with only broken lines and blank spaces left.

The ambient temperature didn't drop as quickly as expected. Due to the ORT's absorption, the energy in the air wasn't fully released, but instead became more concentrated, with extremely high particle density in certain areas. Although the plasma was no longer present, the energy compression resulted in a persistent high temperature, and a suffocating, dull feeling permeated the air. While the temperature appeared calm on the surface, underlying energy flows were silently brewing.

The air became incredibly dense. No longer a freely flowing gas, it felt stagnant. The free movement of molecules and particles seemed to be severely suppressed, and the air flow became sluggish, as if every breath carried a heavy burden. The gas molecules, once free-flowing, now became dense and heavy after being consumed by the ORT. They no longer flowed freely, but were trapped in an indescribable state.

Within this extremely compressed air, previously stable molecules and structures began to shift. Oxygen and hydrogen, two elements that could once form stable molecules, began to undergo subtle changes. They were no longer simple H₂O molecules or OH₂ free radicals. Instead, under extreme energy conditions, they constantly collided with each other, violently reorganizing or being disassembled into new particles. An unstable cloud of particles began to float in the air, its presence making the surrounding air even more turbid. They resembled an irregular, unpredictable cloud, occasionally emitting faint glows, as if each particle was profoundly interacting with its surroundings.

Without outside interference, the chaotic state here would likely persist for an inordinately long time. Every particle of the air is being devoured and compressed by the ORT, severely restricting the flow of energy. Over time, the matter in the air will gradually become increasingly unstable, the relationships between particles becoming blurred. Molecules and elements that could once naturally recombine will, in this state, become trapped in disordered, chaotic interactions.

Living things should feed on negative entropy.

In this chaos and disorder, only ORT still maintains its own order, floating quietly above the ruins of Crystal Valley.

--------------

The sun's first rays slowly shone from the horizon, piercing through layers of clouds and mist, illuminating the ruins of Crystal Valley. The warm morning light, rather than bringing its usual tranquil freshness, instead formed a stark contrast to the dead silence. The valley, once ablaze with crystal light, now lay gray and barren, like the wreckage of a dream, its lingering memories and fragments floating in the air.

A stifling, dull feeling permeated the air. Even though the sun's rays had penetrated the clouds, illuminating the earth, Crystal Valley remained shrouded in an indescribable gray mist. This mist wasn't a natural formation, but rather a product of an unusual interweaving of energy and particles in the air. When faint rays of light penetrated it, the reflected specks of light moved silently across the wasteland like ghostly figures. Every inch of the air was filled with an unstable, restless atmosphere.

Although the temperature had dropped somewhat since midnight, the air's density and oppressiveness remained unrelieved. The ground remained warm, as if buried beneath an invisible flame. A faint oscillation could be felt beneath the lower temperature, as if some power lay dormant deep beneath the earth, like an extinct volcano secretly accumulating energy for imminent eruption.

The once crystalline world was now utterly empty, even the molecules in the air seemingly losing their original order. Particles swayed in an invisible gravitational field, their connections becoming loose and blurred. Even the hydrogen and oxygen molecules in the air had yet to fully recover their original structure.

The ground was no longer peaceful. Broken rocks emerged from the ground, the surface began to rise slightly, and the rock layers continued to crack. In some places, even bottomless cracks began to appear. The distant mountains also shook under the strong vibrations, and the sound of the earth's crust shifting echoed across this desolate land.

Xing Qingfu stood in the crystalline valley, reduced to a deadly ruin, his hands in his pockets, his gaze fixed intently on the still-rotating ORT in the distance. Even within this environment, battered by extreme energy, the heat, oppression, and subtle vibrations of the outside world were practically insignificant to him. The magic power coursing through his body continuously, sufficient to maintain normal physiological functions in this environment, or rather, to simulate normal physiological reactions.

But despite this, he still didn't feel completely at ease.

A dull, oppressive atmosphere permeated the air, as if every particle in it were experiencing an irresistible pressure, making him feel breathless. Although the temperature wasn't fatal, the oppressive atmosphere and constant vibrations made him feel slightly uncomfortable. With every deep breath, the faint chemical and metallic smell in the air, accompanied by tiny vibrations, entered his lungs, giving him a subtle sense of discomfort.

But what was even more pungent at this moment was the smell that permeated the air.

The smell suddenly filled Xing Qingjiu's nostrils, intense and oppressive. It wasn't metallic, nor was it the lingering scent of sulfur or burning. Instead, it was an unpleasant, acrid, and pungent aroma, like some kind of decaying organic matter evaporating through the air. It oppressed his senses with an invisible, corrosive feeling. The smell, a mixture of decay and unknown chemicals, seemed to permeate the air relentlessly, causing him to feel suffocated every time he took a deep breath.

The air itself was filled with unstable particles, tiny vibrations almost silently suffusing every molecule with abnormal energy fluctuations. This smell seemed to be part of these energy fluctuations, so strong that it almost made him vomit. Every second, the smell in the air continued to spread and distort, as if driven by an invisible force, spreading to the vicinity of Xing Qingjiu. The smell was so strong that it was impossible to ignore, almost causing him to feel strongly disgusted.

Xing Qingwu paused, his brow furrowed slightly, trying to discern more from the smell. Although his body wasn't affected by the extreme conditions here, the smell inevitably made him feel a little uncomfortable. The heat and oppressive air were already making him feel a little tired, but the pungent smell was an additional blow.

He tilted his head slightly, his gaze still fixed on the spinning ORT disk in front of him, secretly speculating on the source of the smell. The air around him remained silent, but the pungent smell grew stronger, as if some previously hidden entity was quietly unleashing its power.

Even in this extreme environment, his senses remained highly acute. He knew full well that the source of this smell wasn't directly related to the surrounding environment, but rather to a biological entity. It didn't resemble any chemical substance he'd ever encountered, nor did it conform to any common odor profile in nature. Rather than the smell of a substance, it was more a carrier of information, a presence that defied direct interpretation by rational thought.

It's a pity that Xing Qingjiu doesn't have the corresponding receptors, otherwise he would understand that the pungent smell in the air at this moment is actually a language -

That's right, it was the language of pheromones. The scent seemed to weave a language through the air, more than just the evaporation of chemicals, but a deep biological communication. If roughly translated, these pheromones might express a sense of joy—a cosmic delight at the sight of one's own kind.

This concept of "fellow species" is not limited to a certain planet or a certain galaxy, but simply seeing a life form with a similar structure to oneself can be considered as "fellow species" in a broad sense.

Since "kindred" is defined as a life form with a similar structure to itself, ORT naturally chose to use this pheromone language rather than traditional audio or visual language. It believed that Xing Qingyu, like itself, possessed the ability of mimicry—this external "human" body, in ORT's eyes, was more of a keratinous shell, just like itself.

Unfortunately, Xing Qingyu is the product of a modified Haki. If he were in another film set, he would be more suitable to be a Kamen Rider rather than Ultraman. Therefore, he has no corresponding biological receptors at all.

One of the universal languages of the universe woven by colorful streams of light was reduced to simple white light due to the poor three-color vision cones of humans. Although the previous damage was caused by ORT sleeping too long, causing him to subconsciously use the power of inter-universe communication, doesn't the poor environment of the earth have any responsibility at all!

The pheromone language that people of the same species communicate with each other was completely useless to Xing Qingyu, who had no receptors. The vibrations in the surrounding air caused by the ORT's rotation were actually constantly switching between different languages. Xing Qingyu sensed the ultrasonic waves it emitted.

——But he didn't understand.

ORT never imagined that Xing Qingyu was a native of Earth, so until now it has not occurred to them that they should communicate using the receptors possessed by Earth creatures, or the Earth's language system, or even the vocal frequency band.

Of course, for ORT, there is a simpler and more direct method, which is to sense Xing Qingjiu's core, or "heart", and then directly exchange information, or to shake hands with the other party, so that the cuticles touch each other, which can also achieve the same effect -

——It was it that accidentally smashed Xing Qingyu. As for the core, Xing Qingyu's heart was sunken in the imaginary space, and it was difficult to locate its position without the corresponding information.

Xing Qingyu stood still in the scent-filled, trembling air, taking a deep breath, trying to block out the discomfort. His senses remained sharp; even without external stimulation, the surroundings were silently changing. The pungent odor still enveloped him, even growing stronger and more oppressive with each passing moment. He knew that while the scent was unpleasant, it wasn't lethal; it was simply a carrier of information, perhaps helping him better understand the situation.

At this moment, the ORT continued to rotate in silence. Xing Qingyu couldn't help but lock his gaze on its massive disc once again. The metallic sheen coldly reflected the faint light, as if the air around it danced with it, trembling gently. His steps were slow and careful, trying to minimize any unnecessary movement. The vibrations in the air made each step feel stealthy.

As Xing Qingwu approached the ORT, his eyes fixed on the disc's surface, observing the delicate and intricate patterns deeply etched into the smooth metal. He reached out his hand, frowning slightly, and placed his fingers near the disc, but paused at the last moment.

He could sense a strange attraction, as if some invisible force emanated from the depths of the disc, drawing his finger towards it. However, Xing Qingjiu's rationality prevented him from acting rashly. His caution was out of respect for the unidentified object; he was unsure of the consequences of any contact with it.

But in the end, curiosity overcame his hesitation.

His fingers finally touched the surface of the disk, and instantly, a strange sensation reached his fingertips. This touch wasn't the coldness of metal, but rather a conflicting feeling of softness and hardness. The surface was nearly perfectly smooth, without a single flaw, yet it seemed to harbor an elusive structure, like some complex crystal, yet a material unknown to humankind.

At the same time, a piece of information finally entered Xing Qingyu's mind. It was strange. It was clearly a language that did not belong to humans, and the content was clearly not something that human thinking could understand, but Xing Qingyu spontaneously understood the meaning of this information. And the form of this information in Xing Qingyu's mind was -

"—Oh my! I didn't expect to see a fellow countryman (a creature with a similar body structure) in a foreign land (a planet other than my own). It really surprised me (an unexpected feeling of joy or surprise). You... wait?"

The message stopped abruptly, and ORT suddenly fell silent.

--------------

It’s mainly because the linguistic content at the end gives me a headache to write, so I’ll stop here for now. I feel much better after coming back from the IV.

Since ORT's setting mentioned that it has no ability to understand culture, I reverse-engineered its communication method, which feels more sci-fi.

Volume 70: Symbiotic Relationships: . Starting from Rational Consensus to Emotional Empathy

It is clearly something that does not belong to human language at all. It can even be said that it is completely beyond the boundaries of the human cognitive system. It does not have any grammatical structure, nor does it have any common sense vocabulary or symbols. Even its "meaning" does not conform to the common sense of Earth creatures.

But Xing Qingjiu understood it.

Information flooded into his consciousness like a tide, carrying a strangeness that didn't belong to any known language. It lacked the "subject" and "predicate" of language, any clear signifiers, not even an emotional overtone he could immediately grasp. It was like an undefined rough stone, imbued with immense energy but devoid of form.

But his mind wasn't blocked by this chaos. Instead of stalling, his brain quickly launched into a highly accurate pattern recognition process. It was undoubtedly unlike anything he had ever encountered in any language.

Guided by the information fed into the ORT, Xing Qingqiu's brain began to rapidly decode it. Not all of this information was presented visually or aurally, but rather mapped into his consciousness in a more pure, abstract way. He didn't directly see any form or hear any sound, but rather touched upon a deeper "primordial signified."

From a linguistic perspective, this process can be understood through the classic model of "signifier and signified." Language, as a symbolic system, is essentially composed of two layers: the signifier—the linguistic symbol itself, which can be sound, text, or even body language; and the signified—the meaning these symbols represent.

In most cases, the relationship between signifier and signified is clear, and we understand the corresponding concepts through known symbols. However, the information Xing Qingfeng received completely broke this clear connection. It did not have common linguistic symbols or traditional meaning.

In reality, Xing Qingjiu doesn't receive "linguistic symbols" in the traditional sense. Instead, he receives a kind of "primitive signified," a signified that doesn't rely on any form of linguistic structure but rather a pure, essential existence. His brain's job is to find matching "signifiers" within the existing language system, transforming these primitive signifieds into understandable forms.

For example, let's assume that in this ORT message, a symbol doesn't directly represent the physical object "apple," but rather conveys its existence through some more symbolic means. Xing Qingqiu's mind, unfazed by this irregular symbol, quickly discerns the key information within it: a round, red, edible fruit with a sweet taste. This information triggers associations in his brain, and he begins searching for similar symbols within his language system, ultimately matching them to the word "apple."

Of course, if we break it down carefully, this symbol matching process is actually quite complicated.

First of all, the most fundamental step is to build a basic consensus framework——

This framework, regardless of civilization or species, must have some common, rational foundation. Mathematical logic often plays a leading role in constructing this foundation. Rationality, regularity, and quantitative descriptions become the cornerstone of the entire process.

For example, how do we define color with an alien species? Cognitive differences between civilizations can lead to significant misunderstandings of the same phenomenon. For example, is red, as we perceive it, truly red to another species? Different species may have vastly different physiological bases for perceiving this information. Their species might not even have a physiological mechanism for the perception of red, or even a visual system entirely independent of the visible spectrum. Therefore, understanding color through a species without color perception presents a significant challenge.

What is the concept of fruit? The other party's culture may not have the concept of "fruit". They may classify all edible objects as "food" or "substance" without further subdividing them.

Furthermore, how do we distinguish the simplest left and right directions? In human cognition, left and right are defined by the left-right symmetry of the body. But if the other person's biological structure is completely different, or even lacks such symmetry, then what is left and what is right?

To put it in a more mysterious way, it is actually defined by the understanding of the laws of the universe. The more you understand the laws, the easier it is to build a basic consensus.

If the other party has established basic molecular biology, then they can use chirality and even optical rotation to establish the concepts of left and right, two opposite directions. In other words, they can infer left and right by first establishing the consensus concepts of left rotation and right rotation.

Chirality describes the geometric asymmetry of an object or molecule in three-dimensional space, most typically manifested by the non-superimposability of its mirror images. At the molecular level, this property is manifested in the mirror asymmetry between L- and D-amino acids or sugar molecules.

Furthermore, chirality is closely related to optical rotation in physics. Optical rotation not only allows us to determine the chirality of a substance, but also to clearly distinguish its "left" and "right" in space. Specifically, D-amino acids (dextrorotatory) cause polarized light to rotate clockwise, while L-amino acids (levorotatory) cause polarized light to rotate counterclockwise. By measuring this rotation, we can establish what is left-handed and what is right-handed in the other culture.

——But this is still not accurate enough. After all, molecules, such as amino acids, are easily affected by the environment, which may cause instability and cause measurement errors. If the other party masters microscopic quantum physics, they can use a more stable method to define "left" and "right"——

For example, the distinction can be made by measuring the spin of particles whose parity is not conserved in weak interactions. Weak interactions favor left-handed particles. For example, in beta decay, electrons typically have left-handed spin, while antineutrinos have right-handed spin. By measuring the relationship between a particle's spin and its direction of motion, it is possible to clearly distinguish between "left-hand" and "right-hand" spin, providing a more precise standard for defining left and right.

And when the two basic spatial directions are unified, the remaining establishment of other directions is just a matter of establishing the coordinate axis.

The definition of color can also be established using the wavelength-frequency standard from physics. This process involves an understanding of the electromagnetic spectrum. In both cultures, different wavelengths of light are used to distinguish various "colors," another form of consensus-building based on shared physical laws. With this foundation established, other basic concepts can be reached through similar methods.

This process will be repeated many times until all the basic elements sent by ORT are reviewed one by one. In this process, the closer the physical cognition of both parties is, and the deeper their understanding of the world is, the faster these basic concepts will match.

——However, it is impossible to guarantee the same level of development for any civilization, nor is it possible to guarantee the same mathematical level for all species. Elements that the other party cannot understand can only be skipped, leaving only the basic elements that both parties can agree on. If the number is lower than a certain level, consensus cannot be built. This is also the first threshold of communication.

If there are enough elements left, then we can proceed to the next step——

——Establish a consensus on the correspondence between elements.

Peano axioms, plane geometry (Euclidean geometry) and even the most basic first-order logic system are used to construct a most basic formal logic system, and on this basis it is necessary to further introduce the ZFC axiom system to complete the first-order axiomatic set theory.

This is also the second hurdle. If they cannot mathematically abstract their understanding of the world to the level of set theory, then their external communication will be greatly difficult, and it can even be said that language will not exist. After all, the development of formal logic is highly related to language, and language is highly related to culture. If they cannot point to the technology tree of formal logic, then their cultural and linguistic development must be quite primitive.

If these two thresholds are not crossed, it means that in ORT's eyes, the other party has no need to communicate and is not considered an intellectual entity of equal status.

——That is, food.

If we have crossed these two rational thresholds and officially entered the realm of civilization, then the next step in communication will be to jump out of the barriers of rationality.

——Use experience rather than logic to convey emotions.

If the other party's cultural circle does not have the concept of fruit, then there is no way to convey to them what an apple is. If the other party's organs do not have tissues such as taste cells, then there is no way to convey to them that apples are sweet.

The boundaries of language, formed by cold elements, are ultimately constrained by sensory perception and innate environment. On a cosmic scale, the differences in sensory perception and the planets of birth are precisely the greatest obstacles to communication. Rational consensus can serve as the basis for communication, but it cannot lead to mutual understanding.

——Condense your own impression of apples, summarize your own sensory information about them, and purify your own personal experiences and on-the-ground understandings related to them.
