"Haha, haha ..." "Haha, what kind of mechanism is this? How on earth did I come to such a ridiculous conclusion?" Xing Qingqiu laughed heartily on the plane, attracting the attention of the flight attendants. "A world with mysteries is actually developing based on the assumption that a world without mysteries exists? How sad..."
Xing Qingjiu lifted a glass of champagne and watched the bubbles rise gently, watching them shimmer in the light. He took a sip, the crisp flavor blooming on his tongue, but it didn't make him drunk at all.
"It's not over yet... It's not over yet... Who did it? The so-called standard world line..." Xing Qingfeng muttered to himself, "Why choose a world line without mysterious interference as the standard? What's so special about it?"
--------------
I originally planned to finish writing it in one go, but I still have a slight fever and feel a little dizzy, so I can only try my best to organize the content of the first half first.
Although for readers, the reality of the world has been revealed by Newton, but for the protagonist, the reality of the world has only been revealed a small corner. However, from the protagonist's perspective, the reality from another perspective can be obtained through reasoning.
The truth that "there is no mystery in the standard world line" will be emphasized again in the subsequent plot, and then I will use this to deconstruct the world view.
In fact, to put it bluntly, when Mushroom was shaping the Type-Moon worldview, he had to cling to the history of the Earth. As a result, even if there is magic in the Type-Moon world, its development cannot break free from the constraints of the history of the Earth. Otherwise, how can Heroic Spirits and Servants be produced? (Big sigh)
Volume 50: The Kyoto Holy Grail War Without Any Nagging: .Who Done it?
Xing Qingqiu sat on a flight to London. Outside the window, Kyoto was gradually covered by clouds, leaving a hazy sky. The letter in his hand trembled slightly with the slight turbulence of the plane.
He always felt that this problem should be thought about by Weber. Isn't it the job of a detective to let an ordinary researcher tinker with these detective tricks and crawl around in the logical maze to find the basis for thinking?
Wouldn't it be better to let Weber do this kind of thing?
Xing Qingqi sighed and gently stroked the letter paper with his fingers. The texture of the letter paper was warm and had a subtle texture to the touch, guiding him to immerse himself in his previous thoughts again.
Why was a world line without mysterious interference chosen as the standard? This question is not so much about who did it, but rather why it was done, that is, the motivation of human nature.
Let’s put aside the answer to Who we have deduced for now and think about the first question instead—
——Why did it? What is the motivation for human nature to cut off unnecessary possibilities?
"Why does human nature want to cut off unnecessary possibilities? Does human nature have subjective likes and dislikes about the possibilities and development of the world?" Xing Qingqi asked himself this question repeatedly in his mind. His thoughts were as restless as the clouds rolling outside the window. He repeatedly chewed on the information provided by Schrödinger in the letter, and finally dared to draw a conclusion.
"No, the existence that has subjective likes and dislikes and even actively interferes with development is called the inhibitory force."
The plane passed through the clouds, and sunlight streamed through the window onto Xing Qingjiu's face, allowing him to relax a bit. He reviewed his recent conclusions, tightened his mind, and then began to think about the next step.
Human nature itself doesn't judge the world's development; it simply uses a certain mechanism to determine whether it should continue. But if it can't continue, it will inevitably be destroyed sooner or later. So why strip it away in advance? Should we even conserve for a future less than a hundred years? No, what exactly does this energy conservation even mean?
"...If it's not necessary, don't add entities." Xing Qingfeng muttered to himself, once again using the razor to cut away unnecessary assumptions. "The simpler the explanation, the more likely it is to be correct. For a proposition to be true, the fewer assumptions it requires, the better—"
"—Human nature deletes unnecessary processes to conserve so-called memory," Xing Qingfeng reasoned. "The reasoning is that because memory has a limit, we need to regularly clear out worlds without a future, meaning we need to shut down unneeded processes."
Xing Qingyu frowned slightly, gazing through the plane window at Kyoto receding below. The cabin lights were soft, accompanied by the gentle roar of the plane's engines. Using this white noise, Xing Qingyu reviewed the information he had just received and began to think about the next step.
"We know that the Human Rights Council will retain the possibility of future development, and we also know that the Human Rights Council will regularly fix historical nodes to ensure that history is fixed as it is now."
"Hmm... I don't have any more information to explain this question right now, so there's not much value in dwelling on it. But it can lead to a simpler and more easily solved problem," Xing Qingqiu shifted his focus to a more actionable question, realizing he seemed to have finally grasped a key point in the problem. "Why would human reason favor developments that are highly similar to the non-demon world?"
"It follows that... human nature determines that there is no mysterious world, and it lasts longer." Xing Qingqi felt a drop of sweat on his forehead, and a feeling of unease began to spread in his heart. "What do you mean? Wait, wait, why, why?"
"Why do both human nature and restraint default to a world line that is more in line with the absence of mystery?!" He couldn't help but licking his dry lips, then gulped down the wine in the glass, letting the cold liquid slide down his throat as he tried to suppress the emotions surging in his heart.
"Because the events in the original story have all happened once." Xing Qingfeng came to this conclusion for the time being, but immediately forced himself to delete it.
——Because this means that the future evolution of this world will be completely constrained by events that have already occurred, this inference is too hopeless.
"...No, this explanation isn't sufficient," Xing Qingfeng muttered to himself, leaning back against the soft backrest of his chair, feeling the relaxation of his body and the tension of his mind. "I can remove it with Hume's razor."
Hume's razor: if the cause of a phenomenon is insufficient, we should either abandon the cause or strengthen it so that it can more fully explain the phenomenon.
"Using Hume's razor to analyze the above inferences yields the final conclusion," Xing Qingqi closed his eyes, trying to clear his mind. "For some reason, both human nature and inhibition believe that there is no mysterious world line, which lasts the longest."
"How did they make this judgment? Prophecy? Oracle? Or..." Xing Qingqi fell into deep thought, his fingers unconsciously stroking the surface of the letter paper.
"...There was a blueprint that could be used as a reference."
"We must admit that there's no mysterious uniqueness to the development of this world line," Xing Qingfeng's thoughts gradually became clearer. "Of course, this can be explained by the anthropic principle."
The anthropic principle states that it is the existence of humans that can explain the various characteristics of our universe, including the fundamental constants of nature. If the universe were not like this, there would be no intelligent life like us to discuss it.
"From this, we can get the answer to why it was done." Xing Qingfeng kept flipping through the letter left by Schrödinger, searching for every clue he needed. "Human nature deletes unnecessary processes to save so-called memory. Processes without future development are considered unnecessary and are closed during the once-every-hundred-year inspection—"
"—Furthermore, the answer to WHO done it can be deduced: the standard world line is a mysterious development that does not exist, and is recognized by human reason and restraint as the development that lasts the longest."
"The questions of why and who have both been answered..." Xing Qingqi's lips curled up into a smug smile. He twisted slightly in the plane seat and gazed through the window at the gradually darkening sea of clouds. "The only thing left is how—"
"——But this isn't a human editing technique. Instead, it's a deliberate leaving of blank spaces in the letter, a method of modifying the world's development."
Xing Qingfeng reread Schrödinger's letter. While the record explained the phenomenon of human nature determining events, the entire narrative deliberately avoided two questions:
1. Why tell yourself this?
Second, regarding the method of historical selection, Schrödinger raised the question of why we cannot change the uncertain past, but did not comment on its practical feasibility. Instead, Schrödinger pointed out the mechanism by which humans should respond to historical selection.
But since human nature has mechanisms to counter historical choices, it is sufficient to prove that there are means to make historical choices.
It's not that Xing Qingyu thought too much, but when all the information in the letter clearly told him that the mystery could not be revealed publicly, he deliberately made so many arrangements to guide himself to complete the explanation of the spirit before the human review in 2000.
Blank spaces can also convey information. Xing Qingyu realized that when he fully understood the content of the letter, the two blank spaces became the most glaring clues.
If we connect these two blank spaces, we can get the first inference:
This Holy Grail War has a strong connection with human principles. Considering the timing, it is very likely a means to target the "foundation of human principles."
"How was it done?" Still unknown. Xing Qingqi read the letter over and over again, unable to extract any useful information. He had thoroughly digested the letter's contents, and the two remaining blank spaces only pointed to the existence of a method to target "Humanistic Foundations." The roar of the plane's engine echoed in his ears, racing along with his thoughts.
Although the method was unknown, the entire process of the crime was laid out before him. After confirming that there were key doubts about the Holy Grail War in Kyoto, all that remained was to sort out the doubts.
——First, there was the anomaly that appeared on the Kyoto earth veins. Although it was later explained as the effect of Tokugawa Ieyasu's treasure, the subsequent macroscopic quantum superposition state still relied on the earth veins.
It's hard to believe that there's no connection between the two events.
The second thing was the shadowy figure on the wreckage of the Erjo Castle, which looked exactly like the Uruk Cup in his hand. However, it disappeared the moment he took out the Uruk Cup, and he was unable to conduct further inspection.
But when Xing Qingfeng later investigated the background of Nijo Castle, he found that Nijo Castle had a strong connection with Tokugawa Ieyasu.
The two clues at hand overlap and point to Tokugawa Ieyasu.
"I see... Is that Tokugawa Ieyasu also an accomplice?" Xing Qingfeng finally understood Tokugawa Ieyasu's position in the entire Holy Grail War. "Next inference: Schrödinger and Tokugawa Ieyasu are accomplices, and their goals are the same."
"But how on earth did they do it..." Xing Qingyu closed his eyes and pondered, "No, we still lack key information. This makes it impossible to push the spiritual dream line forward."
He put the letter away, his fingers gently running over the edge, feeling the warmth of the paper. After so many days of repeated reading, Xing Qingqiu had memorized the contents of the letter. Each rereading simply reminded him to ponder these questions. He packed his luggage and prepared for his upcoming destination, his mind still preoccupied with the question.
"How is it done? What is the method? What is the method by which human nature cuts into the development of the world?" Xing Qingyu simply packed his luggage, but his mind was still on the previous question, "What is the method of historical selection? What are the means to deal with the "foundation determined by human nature"?
"...Hmm?" He seemed to have thought of something, a flash of inspiration in his mind. "Wait, the subject matter of these two questions is different?" He was slightly stunned, then sorted out his thoughts in his mind. "The Why and Who corresponding to the How in the former are both based on human reason."
"But what are the corresponding "Why" and "Who" of the subsequent historical selection methods, and even the means of targeting the "foundation of human nature"?
"If we speculate based on the historical choices and the focus on human nature—
"Why did I do it? I already have the motive. I can't stand this stupid reality. I can't accept that a world of miracles and magic must develop according to a world without mysteries." Xing Qingfeng muttered to himself, "I already have the motive for the crime."
Xing Qingyu felt the smile on his face grow more pronounced. "So, how it was done and who did it are both unknown..." He couldn't help but chuckle, "Haha, both are unknown..."
"That bastard Schrödinger is just shirking responsibility. What? What does 'that's pretty much all there is to say' mean? Isn't that just shirking responsibility?" Xing Qingqiu didn't pull the letter out of the suitcase. He just repeated the last two sentences of Schrödinger's letter from memory:
"That's pretty much all I have to say. Well, I'll leave the worries to you young people."
"I have no obligation to be responsible for you. Consider these words as your payment for paying for me during this period. Well, that's enough."
"How done it? This old Deng doesn't know either, hahaha, what do you mean by just leave the troubles to us? He spent so much time beating around the bush-"
"—Aren't you trying to get me to think about this?"
"What done it? What was the murder weapon?" Xing Qingqi took out the Uruk Cup given to him by Gilgamesh from the imaginary space and carefully examined the patterns on it. He felt relieved. "The murder weapon is known."
"How it was done? What was the method of committing the crime? It's unknown. I need to find it myself."
“When done it, the time of crime—a critical historical node in the foundation of human nature.”
"Where it was done, where the crime took place, is unimportant," Xing Qingqiu thought to himself, his fingers tapping lightly on the armrest of his seat, waiting for the moment of arrival. The lights in the cabin gradually dimmed, the announcement sounded, and the flight attendants began preparing to disembark.
He straightened his bag and carefully placed the letter inside, fearing it might fall when he got off the plane. Xing Qingqiu then stood up, slightly adjusted the collar of his shirt, and slowly walked towards the exit.
"Then, here's the final question—"
The plane finally stopped, the door opened, and cool air rushed into the cabin. He raised his head slightly, and the gloomy skyline of London spread out before him.
"Who did it?" Xing Qingfeng carried his luggage and walked steadily towards the departure gate. "Was it Schrödinger and Tokugawa Ieyasu?"
Stepping out of the cabin, he felt the cool air outside, which lifted his spirits. Passengers hurried past, and he could hear conversations in several languages, mixed with the rustling of luggage carts and the occasional announcement.
"No, if the two of them alone could accomplish this rebellion against human nature, why would Schrödinger have spent so much effort directing his thinking to this point?"
After exiting the terminal, Xing Qingqiu spotted Weber, who had come to meet him not far away. Xing Qingqiu walked slowly towards him and got into the black limousine next to him.
"Who done it? 熘霖②⑵山罒覇(八)si" Xing Qingfeng thought with a chuckle, "Isn't this already solved?"
------------------
The second volume ends here with the re-examination and speculation from the perspective of the protagonist. It is obvious that there are elements of reference to Umineko (laughs). However, compared to the various principles of detective novels used in Umineko, I chose to use another system, a system that is more in line with the "scientific" perspective, which is the razor in philosophy.
Occam's razor, Hume's razor, and Newton's razor, three razors, cut away the unnecessary burdens in the protagonist's thinking and guide him gradually closer to the truth. Although due to insufficient information, the protagonist's reasoning is still incorrect, but I think this guy has been written very well (
I will talk about other things later in the final remarks, but first I want to mention something else:
Voting for the 35th Galaxy Awards has begun, and "Cyber Heroes" by the same author as "Entering the Cultivation of Immortality" is also among them. I believe many people have also noticed that this book refers to many of the settings of "Entering the Cultivation of Immortality", so if there are readers who are also reading books on a certain point, could you please cast two votes for "Cyber Heroes"? It's not difficult to find, it's on the first page (
Although I don't expect Saiying to beat Utopia, I can't let it be suppressed by other books that can't even be called science fiction (
The above is the caramel color distance. Thank you for your support, readers!
Volume 2: The Kyoto Holy Grail War Without a Nagging Message: Ending Reflections (Part 1)
If you find that this thank you speech is lost halfway through, please refresh the chapter.
This volume almost ends like this.
There's a lot I want to talk about in the group chat, but where should I start?
The purpose of this volume from the beginning is to give the protagonist a clearer motivation. I mentioned this in the previous volume. The protagonist's real clear motivation is in the second volume.
How should I put it about this volume? Actually, the original detailed outline was about 300,000 words, but as you can see, my ability is limited, and the daily update is only 4,000 to 5,000 words. Writing like this cannot meet your expectations at all, so after completing the first stage of preparation, I adjusted the detailed outline and quickly finished this volume.
But in fact, you can see that I have subsequent arrangements for the characters that appear in this volume, and the cut plots can be made up later, which is nothing.
1999 is a very special year. I originally planned to write about the YK bug, but after cutting out the plot, I thought it wouldn't fit in. I originally planned to have the protagonist cross the millennium while listening to the Blue Danube (laughs).
Well, I was going to try to play with the narrative at the beginning of this volume, but with the amount of updates I've been doing, I'll let it slide. It's better to just finish the story without all the bells and whistles. To put it bluntly, this Holy Grail War is nothing more than Tokugawa Ieyasu and Schrödinger, under the direction of unknown sources, using a series of actions to stir up trouble in Kyoto, thus guiding the protagonist to solve the problem. The protagonist's process of solving the problem is what they want to see.
"How was it done?" Neither Tokugawa Ieyasu nor Schrödinger actually knew the full story. Tokugawa Ieyasu knew the question "Who did it?" behind all this, while Schrödinger shared the question "Why was it done?" with a third person behind the scenes.
It's clear then that this hidden third person possesses the "How it was done?" - the method of committing the crime. There's no need to hide it, after all, it's already been revealed through the mouth of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the protagonist himself.
Even though the three of them lived in different eras, due to their trust in the protagonist (Who did it) and their shared motives (Why did it), Tokugawa Ieyasu and Schrödinger, who had never met each other, jointly committed a crime against humanity in the year 1999, a time-transcending era.
——And the mastermind is the protagonist (How done it), but the protagonist at this stage doesn’t understand how it was done (laughs)
I really wanted to play Umineko's board game this time, but I didn't get the chance to do so, so I just played hard on the last two explanations. However, compared to Umineko's detective-style thinking, the protagonist isn't dealing with a single case; he needs to deduce from limited information a model that describes how the world works.
Well, the concepts in the two mystery novels, Knox's Ten Rings and Van Dine's Twenty Stories, are somewhat inappropriate, so I used another system that is more in line with the system used by scientists to deal with theoretical models:
——The “Razor” in Philosophy
At the end of this volume, three razors are used: Occam's razor, the most well-known, Newton's razor, the sharpest, and Hume's razor. The remaining razors will also appear in the subsequent plot. If you like this kind of content, you can look forward to it.
In short, the protagonist needs to find a way to accomplish all of this, thereby making historical choices. Does it look familiar? The detective and the murderer are the same person. Yes, I played double Neta here:
On the one hand, the person who breaks the wall is Luo Ji, the wall-facer, and the protagonist needs to find out why he was chosen as the "Who done it" and find out the method.
On the other hand, there is Kiriha Komi from Neta Non-Magical Girl. In the secret room in 2019, she transformed into a detective and began to reason. In the end, she deduced that she was the murderer, the detective, and the victim, and thus further deduced the plot of the crime method.
The story design is more or less like this. Since there is a subsequent Caleb bottom line story after Ayame Sumire and Babasi, I will not go into details to avoid spoilers.
Then let's talk about the character design. First of all, the Saber team, Patricia Hearn, Mizuki Ringo, these two are completely in the Neta secret seal team, from the name to the character design is basically completely in Neta.
After all, the worldview of both mysticism and science exists at the same time, and the main theme of this book is to break down the barriers between mysticism and science, so this pairing is a perfect match (laughs).
First up is Patricia Hearn, whose counterpart is Maribel Hearn, also known as Mary.
While keeping the same last name, Hearn, I set about changing the name so that it wouldn't be immediately obvious (laughs).
First, the speculation is that Meili's counterpart in Gensokyo is Yakumo Yukari. Yakumo Yukari's name actually has Neta in it, which comes from Patrick Lafcadio Hearn, a famous author of Japanese kaiju tales. Born in Greece, she naturalized in District 11 and changed her name to "Lafcadio Hearn."
From this relationship, we can conclude that "Hearn" = "Yakumo". Of course, this is a study of the transcription relationship between Meili and Yakumo Yukari's names.
The feminine transliteration of the male name Patrick, Patrick → Patricia, and then combined with the originally retained surname Hearn, the final name was obtained: Patricia Hearn
Mizuki Ringo's name is Usami Renko. Transliterating her name is actually quite simple. First, her surname, Usami, is derived from the combination of Tsukimi + the moon where a rabbit lives → Usami → Usami.
Then, taking the word "Tsukimi" from the original, it turns out to be a separate surname, roughly meaning "to admire the moon." Then, using a transliteration, we get the surname "Guanyue" (Mizuki), which means "to observe the moon." While it's not as grand as the original meaning of "Usami" (helping to observe the universe), it seems to fit in with the Type-Moon worldview. Observe the moon → observe Type-Moon (laughs)
The name is easy to transliterate, Renko → Ringo, which sounds similar and is also considered to be something that can be used (I'm sure)
Hence the name Kanzuki Ringo.
