Chapter 41 I forgot the beginning and the end, but let it burn anyway!
"The sun is the source of all things and the father of life. Without the sun, plants cannot photosynthesize, and thus cannot produce oxygen and cannot survive. Other organisms will also lose their source of plants. Without the heat provided by the sun, Terra will fall into darkness and cold, the rivers will freeze, and eventually all life will perish."
Kaz listened carefully, but it was difficult for him to understand because there was no sun in Nostramo.
But he didn't ask. In Midnight Haunter, even three-year-old children knew not to disturb the teacher.
What is important is not the story itself, but the lesson the story teaches them.
"But that year, the sun was too close. Its light was so strong that it scorched the plants, dried up the rivers, and killed all the people of Kuafu's tribe. Kuafu was heartbroken and angry, but he couldn't save his people. He could only chase the sun, hoping to get it back to where it belonged, instead of bringing disaster to the people."
"The sun rises in the east, so Kuafu chases it eastward. The closer he gets to the sun, the stronger his confidence grows. But the closer he gets to the sun, the hotter and thirstier he becomes. Finally, one day, Kuafu catches up with the sun."
"But he was too close. The sun's scorching heat was too much for even Kuafu to bear. He felt thirsty and exhausted, and he died of thirst."
The story ended and Koz fell silent.
Wop: "What does this story tell us?"
"The sun isn't in the right place," Coates said. "If it's too close, it should be less bright. If it's too far, it should be more bright."
Woppe was neither right nor wrong.
"Am I Kuafu or the sun?" asked Coze.
Wop: "It's up to you, who do you want to be?"
Koz pondered.
"If I were Kuafu, I would starve to death while chasing the sun. If I were the sun, perhaps one day I would act recklessly like the sun in the story, because nothing can restrain me."
"So I am both Kuafu and the sun."
The sun releases its light, and Kuafu restrains the sun's trajectory and corrects its position.
This is who Coates wants to be.
"You are a hero," Wop said happily. "You can decide what kind of person you will become. And they," Wop pointed at Kaz and the others, "can't be the sun, but they will follow in your footsteps and become the Kuafu tribe."
"What about you?" Coze asked.
Wop shook his head. "I'm not part of this story."
Coze's eyes flickered several times in succession. He was not in any of the stories Wop told, because the narrator never appeared in the stories he told.
But his story couldn't be without Wop, no matter what the cost.
In the stories told by Wop, the ancient Terra people always liked to call the river on which they depended for their survival the Mother River, but no one ever called the sun the Father. Instead, they revered the sun as a god.
Because the sun is too far away from the Terrans, it is too big and too hot to be understood.
The people of Terra drink water from their mother river every day, even though the river may overflow, flood, or dry up.
But most of the time, the mother river is silently contributing and nourishing the lives on both sides of the river.
Nostramo can live without the sun; they have never seen it.
But without water, they would die of thirst in three days.
Even if the people in the bottom nest drink contaminated industrial wastewater, they can live for more than ten years or even longer.
"Teacher Wop." Fili shouted happily, then said cautiously, "Lord Koz, Shen and I have carefully studied the defenses of the Spire District. We cannot completely control the Spire District with our current strength. We plan to adopt a steady and cautious strategy, focusing our efforts on eliminating the powerful families in the surrounding areas. This will not only consolidate our existing territory, but also prevent the battle from being too long."
Her voice trailed off until it was practically a murmur. "Of course, this is just a suggestion."
"Are you afraid of me? Why?" Koz looked at her quietly.
Fili lowered her head, letting the loose hair on her forehead cover her flickering eyes, like a frightened little animal trying to hide in a crevice but accidentally exposing its butt outside.
Kaz wasn't afraid of Curze, nor was Sevatar, nor were Ben and Thor, they were in awe of him.
She also respected Coze, but she was also afraid of Coze.
This fear does not come from the fear of making a mistake, but from the guilty conscience of wanting to greedily grasp the candy that does not belong to you, but also being afraid of being discovered with the sweetness lingering on the tip of your tongue.
Fili's eyelashes fluttered nervously, but Koz looked away.
Koz said calmly, "Don't call me sir."
Fili nodded hurriedly: "Okay, Koz."
The girl breathed a sigh of relief, fortunately she was not discovered.
If it were Sevatar or someone else, she would definitely raise her head and argue with them stubbornly, but Koz's oppressive feeling was really too strong!
When I first met him, he was just a skinny little kid, but in just a few years he had grown into a giant over three meters tall. Teacher Wop always said that he was still in the growth stage, and three meters tall did not seem to be his limit.
A normal person would definitely not be like this, but Teacher Wop said that Coze is the Primarch, and all Primarchs are like this.
Curze's growth curve is already very balanced. Some Primarchs can transform from skinny teenagers into four-meter-tall strong men in just one day.
"Your plan is too conservative," Coates said.
"Is this still conservative?" Fili muttered softly.
They haven't even completely occupied the lower nest, and the upper nest has no foundation at all, yet they directly attack the top of the tower. How can they be conservative?
Curze glanced at Fili. In front of the Primarch's superhuman hearing, any mumbling was no different from talking loudly.
He didn't like Fili, not that he hated her, he just didn't like her.
We need to look at Fili dialectically. She has made great contributions to the Midnight Haunter and is the best educator besides Dorothy and Wop. She also has to work part-time in logistics management.
Although she failed to kill the enemy on the battlefield, her contribution was no less than that of Cevita.
And most of the others admired Coze, but she admired Wop more than anyone else.
Coz liked this about her, but it was also the thing he disliked most about her.
But Koz was very tolerant. He could understand why a child who had been without parents since childhood might suddenly feel warmth and mistake that warmth for love. He allowed Fili's meaningless fantasy because her fantasy would never come true anyway.
"You seem to have misunderstood something," Curze said. "The Night Haunters are no longer what they used to be. We are no longer the feeble flames huddled in the Underhive, struggling for survival, but a raging fire that can burn the old world to ashes!"
“Revolution is not a gentle reform, but an uprising to overthrow a class by force.”
"Every second of delay gives the old order a chance to strike back. The tide has turned, and now it is those trembling elites who must buy time. The power lies in our hands, and if they cling to the shreds of power, they will not let go."
An almost divine coldness appeared on Koz's pale face. He raised his palm and clenched it hard.
"Then let the world burn!"
"Kaz's figure was reflected in his single eye, as if he was looking up to a god, and he shouted with all his might:
"For the Night Haunter!"
This cry was like a spark thrown into an oil depot, instantly igniting the boiling blood of the Midnight Ghost.
"For the Night Haunter!"
Shen stood not far away and watched quietly, with a passion that he could not understand. But deep in his heart, Shen had an indescribable envy.
Chapter 42 Planetary Governor
"Guard the gate! Don't let those untouchables in!"
"For the Night Haunter!"
"BOOM!"
The panicked shouts of the nobles and the cries of the warriors filled the jewel-inlaid adamantine hall. The explosions tore through the former tranquility of the spire area and echoed among the gilded domes like thunder.
Scarlet laser beams wove a web of death through the Gothic arcades, smashing the priceless murals and stained glass windows to pieces, and the luxurious tapestries were dyed dark red by the splattered blood.
The lie of peaceful days at the top of the tower was shattered by the wave of resistance, and was replaced by the violent roar of revolutionary flames.
Nothing can stop the warriors from moving forward, and if there is, Coze will clear the obstacles for them.
The stubborn nobles built a defense line in every corridor of the palace. The fire network interwoven with heavy logging and laser gun arrays could withstand the charge of thousands of troops and crush the flesh and blood of mortals.
But in front of Cozee, their defense was as fragile as a biscuit.
When the Night Haunter arrived, all that remained of the carefully planned defenses were shattered ruins and corpses.
The warriors rushed into the throne room, stepping on the pool of blood that had not yet solidified. The powerful man was sitting on the throne with hysterical and crazy expressions on his face.
"My family has ruled this land for generations. Power is my birthright, yet you are trying to take it away from me by force!"
"Listen up, untouchables! This is my kingdom, it's mine!"
The nobleman showed the scarlet button on the armrest of the throne with a ferocious smile. Once pressed, the entire spire would be razed to the ground.
He knew that this could not save the situation, but he could let these untouchables be buried with him, and he would never give the family wealth to anyone!
"Again, nuclear bombs. Even your methods of destruction are surprisingly consistent."
A large pale hand gripped the nobleman's throat like an iron clamp and lifted him from the adamantine throne.
The nobleman's legs kicked futilely in the air, his carefully maintained face flushed purple from lack of oxygen. He stretched his arm desperately, his fingertips only inches away from the scarlet button, yet it felt like an insurmountable chasm between them.
Koz's slender and pale fingers gradually clenched, and the nobleman's cervical vertebrae made a crisp sound under the heavy burden, like a flower about to bloom.
When the pale hand loosened, the once invincible ruler was thrown away like a broken rag doll, his head tilted on his shoulders at a strange angle, staring at the red button with his eyes wide open.
The dignitaries were driven into the hall, their luxurious robes disheveled in the jostle and shoveling.
"You have claimed the entire city, what more do you want?" the bravest among them dared to ask.
Although the young noble was trembling like everyone else, he still stared at Curze firmly because he had nothing to lose.
The glory of the family had long since withered in blood. At this moment, he was like the last candle in the wind. Knowing that it would eventually go out, he still stubbornly burned the last bit of dignity.
"To take? We took this city, through revolution and violence, not charity or gifts from you."
Curze was shrouded in shadows. He could feel the fear hidden beneath their luxurious robes and hear the thunderous heartbeats.
"What I want is justice and a new order."
"Is this your justice? How many more people are you going to kill?" he shouted.
"It's never up to me how many people I kill, it's up to you to obey the law."
"What will your laws bring to this world? Cruel justice or grave order? You are truly noble, monster!"
The young man's ridicule made the soldier guarding him furious, but Koz stopped him with his eyes from wanting to hit the noble on the head with the butt of his gun.
"Persias." Curze whispered his name as sharp as a knife. "The possibility I see in you is the only reason you are still alive. Cruelty is reserved for criminals, and the grave is their only destination. Now, it is your turn to answer me. Will you choose the grave, or cruel justice?"
Pothius' body was shaking violently. He lowered his head and chose to compromise.
……
"You will become the governor of this world."
"I?"
Dorothy, who was pressed on the throne by Coze, was panicked and asked for help from Wop with pitiful eyes like a little animal, but Wop said he could do nothing to help.
"This is Curze's kingdom. I have no right to interfere with any of his decisions."
In fact, Dorothy knew that she could not trust Wop because Wop always stood on the side of Coates.
She looked up and mustered up the courage to ask, "You are the king, why am I the governor?"
Curze: "I am the king of Nostramo, but my kingdom is not limited to Nostramo. There are many worlds in the galaxy that need our salvation. After I am gone, I need someone to help me manage this world, maintain order, and uphold justice. Teacher Dorothy, no one is more suitable than you."
"Sevatar can do it!"
"Sevatar is leaving with me. He is my commander."
"Feili also..."
"She's too young, and I don't like her."
Sevatar had no regrets in escorting Dorothy all the way here.
Fili lowered her head, not because she was angry, but because she felt guilty. She knew why Koz didn't like her, but could she be blamed?
"But can I really do it?" Dorothy lowered her head, quite lacking in confidence.
She hadn't spent much time with Coze. At most, she had only given him a few lessons in the Bottom Nest, but Coze didn't seem very interested.
Dorothy knew her own shortcomings. She was too idealistic, and Wop's education was more realistic.
But she is tolerant enough that even if she disagrees with some of Coates and Wop's practices, she will not oppose them openly.
The same goes for Coz, who, although he thinks Dorothy is naive, still respects her.
