"Don't try to influence the Doctor's will, Ghost."
These two sentences were spoken by Kal'tsit to Lotin alone.
"doctor."
"You probably know better than I who shaped who the person is today."
"Your hard work is enough to make you a significant asset, that's undeniable."
Lothing did not use the word "merit" to evaluate Kal'tsit's actions over the long years. This was an evaluation he made after knowing the plot, and his wording was perhaps more euphemistic.
"But that person doesn't seem to take you for granted as much."
The Brass Ghost, along with his nun and the hunters, walked to the other end of the underground passage, leaving Kal'tsit still in shock.
Chapter 55: Neither Up Nor Down
Lotin didn't need Kal'tsit's permission; he was merely informing her of his actions, but Kal'tsit clearly misunderstood.
"That doctor can be used as a bargaining chip to tip the scales, but that's about it."
"Has the passage of time made her so arrogant?"
In front of Kalshit himself, Lottin did not speak too harshly, so he used the word "hard work" in a subtle and tactful way.
The old cat's attitude displeased Luo Ting.
His dislike for Kal'tsit was not unfounded. Before reaching the tunnel exit, Lotin had time to review the information, something he often did in his spare time.
The doctor from the previous civilization—who was also the "prophet" at the time—granted Kal'tsit free will and told her to "go to find traces of life, to go to find hope and the future," and to "find yourself."
Throughout Kal'tsit's long life of ten thousand years, she did indeed strive to save Terra and made arduous efforts. Ten thousand years was enough time for her to find a sense of belonging in this newly emerging civilization before her eyes.
This does not contradict the instructions this former servant received upon being liberated.
However, the consequences of her actions cannot be said to be entirely in line with her original purpose; rather, they can be said to be contrary to her initial goals and completely unrelated to the goals she wanted to strive for.
Every nation in Terra has trusted Kal'tsit to some extent, but without exception, the outcomes have all been somewhat unsatisfactory.
Unable to guide it, the only option is to nip it in the bud.
However, among the mess that Kal'tsit created due to her own limitations, there were also a few things that could be considered good.
Convincing Terra's powerful figures to fight the demons was probably one of their "hard-earned achievements." Another was likely awakening the Doctor from his time.
If the Doctor and the Terrans are like the master of the house and the pets in the house, then Lotin himself is more like a visitor to the Doctor's house.
Lotin is a complete outsider; not only is he aware of the "plot," but his race can also change with his skin. This might even bring new challenges and questions to the survival of the previous civilization.
Moreover, although Luo Ting is not quite normal, he still has his own feelings, especially his obsession with living, so he cannot allow anyone to overturn the table.
After all, what evil intentions could a deep-sea titan have? Lotin is just a slightly eccentric tax collector and a man seeking revenge against traitors.
Perhaps he's a hardcore fan of heterosexual women?
If someone were to flip the table, Loting would probably try to flip the table back down with them.
The brass giant reached the end of the tunnel. The mission briefing from Rhodes Island stated that communications here had been cut off by the guerrillas. Before leaving, Frostnova also provided information on a route to bypass the guerrillas' outer perimeter positions.
The questions the doctor asked him to relay were all confirmed one by one.
"It is a pity that your fame cannot spread more widely."
Laurentina said regretfully.
Before her eyes, the jet-black Originium crystals bloomed like flowers. Chernobog had suffered a natural disaster. If Lotin hadn't acted in Little Hills beforehand, Little Hills would have suffered the same fate as this place.
"They packaged themselves as saviors of the infected, but did not take any action to save them."
"Manipulating hatred allows us to harvest a large number of cannon fodder, sacrificing those who should be protected, all to start a new war for Ursus, this long-rotten behemoth."
In Lotin's eyes, the Integration Movement, shaped by the "Undying Black Serpent" Duke Koschche, is essentially no different from the Deeppool Movement; they have even both betrayed members of their own organizations.
Laurentina was already sitting on Lotin's shoulders, while Skadi, at Lotin's request, kept a distance on the inside.
The W skill [Titan's Wrath] shield simultaneously covers three people. Since the strength of this shield is affected by the user's health, the already high-health Lothing now possesses an extremely resilient shield.
The surviving Phantom Crossbowmen were driven elsewhere. In Chernobog, the rumors of the Bronze Ghosts on the battlefield did not circulate. The ones who recognized Lotin were not the Infected Guerrilla, but the Sarkaz Mercenary Group.
"A brass ghost! Damn it, how did this thing get here?"
Compared to their counterparts who had informed them of the Bronze Ghost, these Sarkaz mercenaries were clearly much more ungrateful, because the once unbridled mercenary groups no longer dared to linger on the land-based shipping lanes around Lateran.
Even if they had to pass through, they would still obediently offer gold coins.
The altar enhanced the Sarkaz's power, devouring the lives of other Reunion members nearby; it was a unique Sarkaz magical device. Even those guerrillas covered in a special coating were affected, and could only try to avoid it.
There was no real cooperation between the guerrillas and the mercenary groups.
But how could their firepower compare to the concentrated heavy firepower of the regular garrison in Victoria?
The crossbow bolts and spells were deflected by the brass hatch, and the mortar shrapnel couldn't even graz Loting's brass diving suit. Ignoring all the enemies, Loting marched straight toward the sarcophagus, unstoppable.
He had only one goal: to confront Bozokasti directly and stop the core city.
Because the enemies who foolishly stood in Lottin's way had all been shattered by the destructive energy unleashed by [Undercurrents]—the difference being whether they shattered into pieces or retained the outline of their armor—Lottin, with his spell power exceeding 100, possessed even more terrifying spell output than before.
He will soon reach level seven, and his power will reach an even higher level.
Whether they were guerrillas or mercenary groups, they were all crushed in Lotin's advance unless they retreated voluntarily and hid in the distance.
Despite the barrage of arrows and magical missiles, the brass giant remained standing, and neither mortars nor explosives could pry open this mobile metal fortress.
One by one, the enemy's weapons failed, their carefully laid encirclement was easily breached, and the Sarkaz mercenary group's defenses were overrun in an instant, exposing the guerrillas' core position to Lotin.
"The greatest warrior of Ursus... without guns or shields, just by stomping, he can crush you to pieces."
The infected guerrillas blocking his way could barely form a battle line; their most destructive weaponry had proven ineffective.
"Your attack is utterly ineffective."
“The Victorian howitzers hurt me more than yours.”
Loting raised the giant anchor, but at that moment, the collision of a jet-black halberd caused the anchor to deviate from its original course, crashing into the ground and sending rubble flying.
"What incredible strength! I cannot stop it."
With his hoarse voice and imposing physique, even without considering his exaggerated horns, this last Wendigo was not short in front of Lotin.
The dusty and scratched armor was quite sturdy, and the black spear was still sharp. The disease had robbed him of his normal speech, but it had also given him an incredibly strong body.
"Bozokasti".
This is what Lotin is looking for: Ursus's strongest shield.
"Bronze Ghost, do you know my name?"
Wendigo raised his halberd.
Well-equipped shield guards lined up behind him, taller and more imposing than any heavy infantry unit Lotin had ever encountered.
"Your daughter has discovered the betrayal."
Luo Ting simply explained the objective facts while the other party was still able to communicate.
"That path was her own choice. No matter where that path leads."
“I will not, therefore I will not change my position.”
Wendigo's eyes glowed red, fierce, but not malevolent. A Sarkaz weary of killing, yet ultimately forced to continue killing.
"Brass Ghost, what's your stance?"
"You can take this as me relaying Rhode Island's position."
Lotin was indeed merely relaying Rhodes Island's wishes.
"You only live for yourself."
"Don't misunderstand, it's not contempt. I just haven't met such a pure person in a long time."
Bozokast believed that the bronze giant before him lived a very pure life.
Bozokastie spent his entire life trusting others, but never considered what to do after being betrayed.
The other person, on the other hand, was the complete opposite, someone who almost exclusively believed in himself.
Lotin only provides his own strength to Rhodes Island, and even though he is indifferent to Rhodes Island's ideals, he relays them truthfully.
It is a rare opportunity for both sides to temporarily halt hostilities and engage in dialogue.
"Rhodes Island wants me to stop. Why should I stop?"
"I've fought too many battles."
Wendigo recounts his history of conquest, from slaughtering skinners and twisted monsters to defeating steam knights, silver-lanced pegasus, and papal cavalry, only to ultimately succumb to the greed and corruption of Ursus.
"I'm considered honest, so I should accept that?"
"Traitor, rebel, mass murderer, defender... all titles, like 'patriot,' are merely fragments of the battlefield."
The bronze giant simply listened to the Wendigo's story, waiting for an answer.
"Tell Rhodes Island."
"I don't need pity."
"Your value will only be revealed after you kill me. Otherwise, you are nothing but an invading force."
The soldiers, resilient to the point of stubbornness, even pedantry, refused to yield. Perhaps they were weary of a life entangled in war, or perhaps they had lost faith in the hope of a new beginning.
"To be killed by me means that you will die a shameful death as a traitor. This will be the only title you have left."
"Ask yourself honestly, have you ever betrayed anyone?"
Skadi and Laurentina were already prepared beside Lotin, confronting the Shield Guards.
Lotin and Bozocasti tacitly gave each other ample time to express their intentions, and he had already fully conveyed the Doctor's wishes.
"ghost."
"When you go to the battlefield, you must be prepared. Whoever dies is at fault."
"Bronze Ghost, if you call yourself a traitor and a punisher, then crush my shield!"
A storm of piercings entangled deadly Originium Arts, while the surging energy on the giant anchor roared like a raging torrent.
Perhaps the two toughest people on the continent of Terra began to fight.
Chapter 56: Head-on Collision
After personally experiencing communication with Bozocasti, Lotin finally gained a concrete understanding of the Doctor's assessment of him as "incomprehensible" and "somewhat clueless about what he was talking about" in the original storyline.
Bochkast initially chose to believe Talulah, but watched as his team was dragged into the abyss by the name "Reunion Movement." This name shouldn't have been like this.
Unlike Lotin, his facade of "believing only in himself" was probably just a facade. He believed that no matter where the Reunion Movement went, it should not be directly destroyed, as the collapse of the Reunion Movement would cause the Infected to lose their will to fight.
Lotin didn't even bring up the topic of "traitor" first; it was Bozokas who gave himself this title, as one of the many different names people used to refer to him, and also one of his own self-criticisms.
Loting had even solemnly confirmed with him that it was a warning urging the other party to think things through, and the result was what it is now.
He was too resilient, so resilient that he became stubborn.
Lightning, a blend of pitch black and crimson, erupted as the spear pierced through the air with deadly force, while the anchor of the brass giant seemed to roar like a tsunami. The power of [Overwhelming Force] was contained within it, and the charge of [Heart Steel] made this strike exceptionally heavy.
The collision of energies generated a powerful repulsive force, and the immense strength of the brass giant forced Bozokasti back a step.
Wendigo regained his balance in surprise; the bronze giant's feet were deeply embedded in the ground, yet he remained standing.
The shield wall formed by the shield guards was broken by Skadi and Laurentina, preventing them from getting close to Lotin and Bozocasti in their fight.
[Titan's Wrath] re-injected destructive energy into the giant anchor, allowing Lotin's second hammer strike to fall swiftly. Using this technique, the cumbersome brass giant could always launch a surprise attack with counterintuitive speed.
Like a hidden reef lurking beneath the turbulent sea.
Bozokasti's shield collided violently with the giant anchor. His crystallized body was able to withstand the immense force of the brass giant, and his shattered body tissues were quickly repaired in the form of crystals.
His halberd seized the opening and launched a fatal thrust. If even Rhodes Island's strongest warrior couldn't defeat him, then he would step over the corpse of the Bronze Ghost and kill the traitor with his own hands.
The surrounding hatches were not illusions, but physical entities formed from condensed energy. The crystallization made Bozokasti less agile, and he was unable to break through the four hatches during Lotin's opening.
The energy surrounding the giant anchor had not dissipated. The surging energy was blocked by Bozokasti's protective gear, but a considerable portion still penetrated into his body.
The altar burst forth with red light, and the Sarkaz's magic restored his life force in an unnatural way.
