Anke said, "After the fog thickened, it seemed like there were no more monsters around."
Celia nodded, about to say something, when she suddenly froze.
She looked up and around, feeling a chill run down her spine.
She discovered that, somehow, they were no longer on their way to the ruins, but instead...
It's right there in the ruins!
Not only that, but in the thick fog, she saw a huge shadow appear ahead.
That is--
lighthouse!
There was a door at the foot of the lighthouse, and at that moment it seemed to have turned into a giant mouth, mocking their overestimation of their abilities.
A faint, almost imperceptible laugh seemed to emanate from the surroundings.
There were also faint, almost imperceptible gazes, and a light, cool breeze gently blowing in my ear, as if someone were breathing in it.
Celia felt a chill run down her spine and stood frozen in place.
"Celia, why did you stop?" Anke's voice came from behind.
Celia didn't speak, but simply gestured ahead, letting them see for themselves.
All three looked up.
The thick fog around them suddenly dissipated, and the lighthouse appeared before them.
Benovia and the other two stared wide-eyed at the scene in shock.
"When...we were teleported in?"
"I don't know, but we can't move forward."
The lighthouse at night was like a giant monster, and Celia was certain that if she accidentally went inside, she wouldn't be able to get out.
Although a feeling lured them to continue forward and enter the lost lighthouse.
Benovia even said, "I have a feeling that Doris is in the Lost Lighthouse."
“I have one too,” Celia said softly.
She looked at the lighthouse standing silently in front of her, and just then, the light at the top of the lighthouse turned to them, turning into a crimson light that shone on them.
"Lower your head!" Benovia immediately hissed.
Everyone lowered their heads, avoiding looking at the lights.
“This is a bit of a problem, Mr. Ross…” Celia was about to speak to Ross when she suddenly paused.
A strong sense of fear rose from my heart and spread throughout my body.
She discovered that Ross was gone!
As I wrote this last part, I imagined that scene, and it gave me goosebumps. Unfortunately, my writing skills are limited, and I couldn't capture that feeling in words. (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
Chapter 154 "Old Friends" in the Lighthouse
Where did Rose go?
Of course, it's inside the lighthouse.
After crushing the monster that tried to separate Celia and the others, Ross sensed that the Lost Lighthouse was going to use the fog to teleport Celia and the others outside the lighthouse, so he deliberately concealed himself.
He had always felt that this lighthouse was extraordinary, and now it seemed so.
"This lighthouse is interesting. Pure mental energy can't penetrate the fog inside. There must be some 'old friend' inside."
Ross, who had barely made it inside the lighthouse, looked up thoughtfully toward the top of the tower.
If Ross were to be there in person, he would be able to easily penetrate the lighthouse and see every inch of it clearly.
However, he could only scan it with his mental energy through Celia. The scene presented by his mental energy was that the lighthouse was a huge pool of demonic energy, so dense that it seemed that no detection method could penetrate it to see what was inside.
He forced his way in, but could only reach the inside of the door and see the scene on the first floor.
Dozens of monsters lurk within the first floor, waiting for adventurers to venture in.
Aside from the monsters, there were only some unusable tools scattered haphazardly here.
More than one battle had taken place here. Ross even saw some corpses that were reduced to skeletons, with scraps of cloth around them. As for the weapons and equipment, they had disappeared, perhaps recycled by the Lighthouse and turned into monsters.
After observing carefully, Ross did not continue forward and left the lighthouse.
"We can't go any further. We've almost lost contact with Celia just by getting here. Going any further will only lead us back to the sealed land."
"We must find a way to get Celia to the top of the lighthouse to see if some 'old friend' is hiding there. If it's restricted to those above level four, then you won't be able to unleash your combat power above level four either. You can fight."
Upon returning from inside the lighthouse, Ross did not immediately reveal himself but instead remained hidden.
I didn't mean anything by it, I just wanted to see how Celia would react.
At first, Celia didn't notice that he had left and was still observing the lighthouse. It wasn't until the lighthouse shone down that she habitually prepared to ask Ross.
Ross could hear, but he didn't speak, and he didn't even let Celia see him, lest he be discovered by that 'old friend'.
"Are you really that scared?"
Ross was somewhat surprised to sense the intense fear emanating from Celia.
"Does she see me as someone to rely on, or as her safest haven, habitually calling for help in times of danger?"
Ross seemed to be deep in thought.
He didn't show himself, intending to see how Celia would cope without him.
Although he didn't venture deep inside the lighthouse, Ross confirmed one thing—
"Doris didn't go inside the lighthouse; she stopped at the entrance and then went towards..."
Ross looked south towards the Gold Coast.
"Going that way."
After making his judgment, Ross returned to Celia's side.
After a brief period of panic, Celia had calmed down again.
However, Rose's disappearance left her feeling completely insecure.
It felt like walking a tightrope; nothing felt secure.
Benovia and the others had already accepted her as their captain and were waiting for her to make a decision: whether to enter the lighthouse or find a way to leave.
Without Ross, Celia wouldn't even consider the first option.
After a brief discussion with Benovia and the other two, she made a decision—
"Find a way to get out of here."
"But don't move yet. There are hidden magic arrays around us. Let me take a look first."
Celia manipulated the puppet to the side, squatted down, and started digging in the sand.
Soon, she dug out a stone slab with strange patterns.
She recognized the type of rune: "A spatial rune. This is probably the culprit that teleported us here."
Anke asked in surprise, "Can monsters also use magic circles?"
Benovia said, "Ordinary monsters certainly wouldn't be able to, but the fact that the lighthouse has stood for so many years without being conquered, and can even restrict high-level mages from entering, means that it must have many unique features."
Anke pondered, "The high-level monsters inside the lighthouse can even draw teleportation arrays and restrict high-level mages from entering. Doesn't that make it invincible?"
Celia remembered that Ross once said that nothing can be perfect, and the more powerful something is, the greater its flaws are. These flaws can only be remedied in other ways, not improved.
This means that the mysterious monster in the lighthouse, no matter how much it restricts high-level mages, cannot make itself invincible; it must have some fatal flaw, or rather—
“With such high restrictions placed on high-level beings here, the monster controlling the lighthouse is very likely also restricted and unable to unleash its full power,” Celia said. “Therefore, we don’t need to worry too much about being defeated by that thing without any resistance.”
Benovia agreed, "Yes, if it were that easy, it wouldn't have lured us into the lighthouse through mental suggestion; it would have just come out and killed us."
Celia put the stone slab back. "This teleportation array has a defense mechanism. We can't destroy it here, or it might unleash the hidden monsters around us to attack us. It's nighttime now, and the monsters are all enhanced, so we can't do what we do during the day."
She looked at the lighthouse: "I don't know if Doris can resist the temptation. If she enters the lighthouse, there's nothing we can do. We can only wait until daytime to come back. Let's head north. We cleaned up that area during the day, so there are fewer monsters on that road, making it relatively safe."
He then took the lead and walked north, which is to the left of the lighthouse.
"South," Ross's voice came through.
Celia froze, stopped in her tracks, and was overjoyed to see Ross reappear: "Lord Ross! I thought..."
"What did you think?" Ross asked with a half-smile.
"I thought it was you..."
Celia's cheeks flushed, but thankfully, no one could see it in the darkness of the night.
Only Phil noticed Celia's sudden mood swing, but she didn't know what was going on and had no interest in prying into other people's private lives.
After the initial excitement subsided, when the others were about to ask questions, Celia changed direction and said, "Head south."
The three of them were taken aback, and Benovia looked at Celia with a puzzled expression.
Celia said, "I suddenly sensed Doris's presence just now. She's south of the lighthouse, in..."
The girl looked into the even darker cave in the pitch-black night: "In that cave."
"Really?"
“Really.” Celia nodded.
Lord Ross confirmed it, how could it be false?
"Okay, let's go!"
"Slow down, let me go first." Celia came in front of everyone: "From here, there are magic circles hidden under the beach everywhere. You might trigger a trap if you're not careful."
Ross told her this, and she relayed it to others.
After relaying the message, she walked in circles quickly toward the cave to the south, as if she had already seen through all the magic arrays.
In reality, it was Ross who was guiding her.
A confident smile returned to Celia's face.
Chapter 155 Doris's Adventure
"Hoo, ho, hoo, ho..."
Doris breathed heavily, leaning against the cave wall, looking back at the path she had come from.
If it were a normal monster, the path it came from would be covered with corpses by now.
However, the monsters formed from the accumulation of pollution will only dissipate upon death, returning to demonic energy, leaving behind the vessel from which the monsters were formed.
At first, Doris would pick up the loot from killing monsters, but later she just left it on the ground and couldn't be bothered to touch it.
"Nighttime at the ruins is indeed dangerous... Why did I leave the base?"
Doris deeply regretted leaving the base.
After learning the scores, she checked her puppet-specific score and saw that she was fifth while Celia was third. In a fit of anger, she ran outside the camp to clear her head.
She didn't approach the lighthouse, but stopped at the spot where Professor Abros had led them to observe it the day before, gazing at the distant lighthouse from this small hill in a daze.
She was thinking about how to face Celia when she got back; she didn't want to see Celia's smug expression.
While she was lost in thought, she didn't notice the lighthouse's light shining in her direction. She was looking in the direction of the lighthouse and made eye contact with its light.
Then she noticed that the wind had picked up.
Accompanied by a gradually chilling gale and a thick fog, everything around them was enveloped at some unknown time.
She walked back, and when she came to her senses, she found herself on the golden beach.
Suddenly teleported to a dangerous place, she experienced a brief moment of panic, fell for the lighthouse's lure, and almost entered its interior.
Fortunately, she reacted quickly and stopped it in time.
After thinking for a moment, she decided to head north towards the beach they had cleaned during the day.
