Chapter 20 Distractions of Faith
The reason why Nemus was able to figure out the dual-law coordination is because he originally relied on this to push the Holy Law Breath to a higher level.
His transmigrator's soul, compared to the souls of this world, has a unique structure and strange nature; perhaps it should be called a true spirit.
When Nemus transmigrated, he naturally also had an external soul.
As Nemus became aware of his true spirit, he acquired the heretical method of dividing his existence into inner and outer parts, thus breathing simultaneously.
As Nemus’s true spirit moved, a golden thing shone from it.
That is the destiny of this world! The portion of divinity that Nemus obtained from the God of Discipline is the qualification certificate to become a god.
At this moment, with the emergence of divinity, the breathing of Nemus's true spirit also possessed a certain special power.
With the activation of the Bimodal Harmony, the breathing of Niel's body also changed, and the Faith Nail embedded in his body trembled slightly, showing even more changes.
Once the holy nail is inserted into the body, the future is essentially cut off; unless a miracle occurs, there is no salvation.
But now, this is a miracle!
The original sacred nail was simply an invisible nail formed from the power of ordinary faith.
At this moment, however, many more dense impurities have appeared.
On the holy nail, it was like a piece of rotting flesh, from which all sorts of maggots were growing.
"I want to marry a woman who will listen to me completely!" Nemus touched one of the 'maggots' and then heard this prayer.
Clearly, this is the impurity in faith, the desires people make in the process of praying to God, and the distractions mixed into faith.
Few people can believe in the existence of God without reservation or wholeheartedness, not for any other reason, but simply because that is the God they want to believe in.
If God cannot deal with these impurities in faith, then He will be swept up by the needs of His followers and become less and less like Himself.
The power that the divine essence is displaying at this moment is the purification effect on faith.
However, it only has the ability to purify, but not to refine the impurities. Nemus seems helpless against these 'maggots'.
He tried to use his mental power to eliminate these distracting thoughts, only to find that they were extremely closely intertwined with his faith.
Nems' mental power had little effect on him.
If forced, it might even damage the power of faith.
"Unfortunately, my divine essence is not complete. Judging from the current situation, it is likely that I only possess one-fifth of the complete divine essence."
"Many functions are incomplete and I need to adjust them step by step to truly unleash their potential."
"And I know too little about God."
Above the Golden Seeds are the Mythical Seeds. Although the Mythical Seeds are different from gods, the difference is not significant.
However, the gap between the Golden Seed and the Mythical Seed is an insurmountable chasm.
"Black stone, steel, gold, legends, myths."
"Among them, there is a special kind of number, with a rank equivalent to gold, similar to the alien species whose rank is equivalent to a demon, but it is extremely difficult to achieve. I don't even know how to achieve it."
"I only know that, according to legend, only great figures who stand in the annals of history can successfully advance to the next level."
"My knowledge base is basically up to the Gold species. My limited knowledge of the Myth species consists of common knowledge that everyone knows."
"This kind of intelligence is too difficult to obtain." Nems currently has two methods, one of which is to contact the cult.
Cults are professional rebels; they specialize in opposing righteous gods. Those cults that haven't been eradicated over the years all have some understanding of the existence of gods.
"The other is to become a high-ranking demon."
When a demon advances in rank, it receives inherited information from the Abyss Consciousness and also updates its own authority within the Abyss.
High-ranking demons are comparable to the Gold-ranking demons, while demon lords are comparable to the Mythical demons.
Nemus estimated that once he became a high-ranking demon, he would be able to acquire some mythological knowledge.
After all, he had acquired some knowledge about higher demons and golden demons when he became a different kind of demon.
This is probably a form of motivation, encouraging oneself to quickly achieve success and get promoted.
"But getting promoted isn't so easy." Nems also has his own dilemmas.
The stats of a variant demon can swell to more than three times that of a normal demon, and the difficulty of becoming a higher-level demon is also more than three times that of a normal demon.
Nemus had roughly estimated that if he continued to stay in the abyss, his chances of becoming a high-ranking demon would become slim.
In addition, he also possessed the divine status of the God of Discipline, which made it quite difficult for him to enter the realm of the God of Discipline in the material plane.
"Am I supposed to satisfy each condition one by one?" Nemus roughly observed that there were probably dozens of distracting thoughts on one of the holy nails.
However, most of them are quite similar and are just wishful thinking.
“No, that’s too inefficient,” Nems then rejected the idea.
Fulfilling one's desires can naturally eliminate distracting thoughts, but he is not a true god and cannot illuminate the world with his great power.
Besides, even a god wouldn't do that.
“There must be other ways to eliminate these distracting thoughts.” Nemus had a premonition that once he could do this, not only would Nair’s physical predicament be resolved, but he would also be able to further understand the essence of divinity.
During this process, Nemus made several attempts, such as transforming the nature of his own mental power to enhance its aggressiveness, so that instead of removing it, he would destroy it with an attack.
However, it was found that while this could indeed eliminate some distracting thoughts, it could not completely eradicate them.
Or rather, the current function of the divinity of Nems can only purify faith to a certain degree.
"And it is extremely energy-consuming."
"My mind is not weak, but it has already taken me an hour to clear my mind of such a small amount of distracting thoughts."
"I can probably only deal with three distracting thoughts in a day."
"This kind of brute-force approach not only fails to eradicate the problem, but also doesn't allow me to truly improve."
Nemus's purpose in acquiring the power of faith was to use it to develop his divine nature, and then gradually master and perfect it.
Use it as a boost to help yourself climb to the top.
Using brute force at this point would be putting the cart before the horse.
“Perhaps I should change my approach…” The setback did not deter Naims, but rather inspired him.
The ropes of oath appeared, and then Nemus closed his eyes to sense other ropes of oath.
Especially the rope of oath at Poole.
He wanted to use the concept of divinity to compare different beliefs.
Nemes believed that Poole's faith was relatively pure.
Comparing the power of pure faith with that of faith filled with distractions might allow us to find a solution by examining the differences between the two.
However, just as Nemus was focused on Poole, he suddenly sensed a change in the other piece of the Oath Rope.
"Hmm? The village guardian?"
Please stay focused and keep reading, thank you for your support.
Chapter 21 The Tranquility of Evil
He assigned the village guards to monitor Oppein.
At the same time, Nemus used the Oath Rope to activate Silence Control on the village guardian, allowing him to move silently.
Logically speaking, given the vigilance shown by the village guards, it was unlikely that he would be discovered by Op.
So why did the village guardians behave so strangely, which the Oath Rope sensed?
What truly surprised Nemus was that even the village guardians had developed a kind of 'faith'.
The village guards were forced to serve him through a demonic contract and by threatening to sacrifice his daughter's life.
The village guards harbored clear hatred towards him, and given the chance, Nemus was certain that they would kill him.
Yet, it was precisely this relationship that led the villagers to develop faith in him.
"No, that's not right. It's not about my faith, but about the faith in 'the demon.'" Nemus, through the power of divinity, touched upon that faith and thus understood its essence.
"It turns out that faith itself does not have an absolutely clear direction!"
"The structure of faith is really interesting."
In a narrow sense, faith refers to trust in and reliance on God.
However, true faith is the conviction in some abstract concept.
For example, if a businessman prioritizes profit above all else, then he is a believer in profit.
For example, farmers earn their living by working in the fields, so they have trust in the land and the crops, which is also a kind of faith.
Even if you like the wind, that liking can be regarded as a kind of faith.
Such thoughts of admiration, submission, trust, fear, etc., toward things and abstract concepts can all exist as faith.
For example, among the righteous gods, there is a wild and violent pantheon.
The Berserk pantheon, led by the Lord of Storms, primarily gains faith through the terror of storms.
Although Naimus knew this in the past, it was as if he had heard a story; his knowledge was limited to mere 'knowing'.
At this moment, witnessing firsthand how the village guardians developed faith out of their fear of demons, or even the more abstract concept of 'evil,' Nemus finally understood and achieved 'knowledge.'
"Then the next step is to put it into practice, and ultimately achieve unity of knowledge and action." After understanding the complexity of faith, Nemus found a way to deal with those distracting thoughts.
However, Nems was not in a hurry. Sharpening the axe would not delay the work of chopping wood. He sensed that the village guards were rushing towards the village.
Sure enough, soon there was a knock on the door of Nems's dwelling, it was the village keeper.
“Op... he lured the miners into the mine and then blew it up!” The villager swallowed hard as he said this.
Although he had also killed people, compared to Op, it was nothing.
He was nowhere near as decisive and ruthless as Op.
He chatted and laughed with a dozen or so miners, and then, after they went inside, he threw out several scrolls without hesitation, blowing up the mine shaft.
Among them were even some of Op's own confidants, the servant who brought tea and refreshments to Nems and the others today.
He was also killed by Op.
The sheer evil displayed in pursuit of profit reminded the village guardians of Nemus; both were similar beings, true demons.
One might be a demon race, while the other is someone whose soul is close to that of a demon.
It was this awareness of fear that formed the faith, and because of the rope of oath, Nemus sensed it.
“Looks like Op did a good job.” Nemus said with a smile, despite the slight fear in the eyes of the village guard.
This behavior truly sent a chill down the spines of the village guards.
He killed for his daughter, and afterwards he tried his best not to kill anyone, but only to dig up corpses.
He still had a deep respect for life, but Op and Nemes were different; their only judgment of life was its value, and they were indifferent to its existence.
The hatred he felt for Nemus was largely dispelled by fear at that moment.
The village guards' original ulterior motives also disappeared at this time.
"Forget it, as long as my daughter's safety is guaranteed, I won't fight with people like them anymore. I can't win."
This isn't a matter of strength. If it were just about strength, then even though the village guard was previously beaten by Nemus, he wasn't afraid.
This is a complete psychological crushing.
"Why are you afraid?" Nemus suddenly asked the village guard.
"Aren't we all just cannibalizing each other for our own benefit?"
"It's just that the way of eating is different."
"Just do your own thing and don't be uneasy about it." Nems' words gave the village guard a strange sense of peace, and his own sins were forgiven by Nems.
Nems also saw a seed being planted, a belief in evil in the heart of the village guardian.
As dawn broke and the whales roared the next day, Nemus once again performed whale-transformation surgery on the quietly arriving Poole.
This time, however, Nemes made Poole actively activate his Painful Essence ability, and then the Oath Rope within his body began to change under Nemes's control.
