Isabella took a deep breath, preparing to unleash her divine magic.
But at that moment, Isabella heard the door open and then saw the old priest come out from the side.
"Isabella, what's wrong?" The old pastor seemed a little worried about his student.
“Phew, teacher, I…” Isabella was about to say that she smelled a putrid stench coming from behind the cemetery when she suddenly noticed that the old priest in front of her also smelled putrid.
To be precise, it has an 'old-fashioned' feel.
As people age, their bodily functions decline significantly, and it's normal for them to develop acne, ulcers, or even festering sores in certain areas.
Isabella suddenly felt a little dazed.
The previous certainty that the cemetery smelled of decay was no longer so certain.
"Am I making a misjudgment of everything out of worry?" Isabella wondered.
A pastor's perception is influenced by both the senses and the mind; if the mind is not normal, perception will also be somewhat distorted.
Furthermore, the old pastor was more powerful than him, yet he didn't sense anything wrong, indicating that he was most likely imagining things.
"What's wrong?" the old pastor asked again.
"No, it's nothing. Maybe it's just that Jacques's departure has made me feel a little out of sorts," Isabella shook her head, trying to comfort herself.
"It's getting dark, be careful..." the old pastor said, then suddenly paused.
“Nair, what’s he doing here?” the old pastor muttered to himself, which also cheered Isabella up.
What she needs now is this 'abnormality,' because abnormality represents clues, and clues mean they can grasp the problem within the village.
As the sun gradually sets, the candlelight and the afterglow vie for territory.
The interplay of light and flame actually disrupted vision, creating an unreal feeling in everything.
Nemes pushed open the church door and saw the old pastor and Isabella coming out of the rest area.
"Everyone's here," Nemus greeted with a smile, at which point some of his inner doubts had been answered.
"Nair, is there something you need so late?" the old pastor asked.
Since rescuing Jacques from Nemes a few days ago, Nemes came over to take the sword, but hasn't come back since.
Its sudden arrival at this time of day must indicate a problem.
"Yes, the person who was supposed to guard the village found me and said that while patrolling the forest, he saw someone acting suspiciously on the side of the back fin mountain."
"It looks like they're carrying some tools for digging something, heading towards the back of the church, so I came to check." Nems naturally wouldn't let this probing end so hastily.
Upon hearing Nemes' words, Isabella was startled. Could it be that Jacques had been discovered?
However, Isabella quickly dismissed this idea, as Jacques knew that the old priest was a Steel Seed priest with extraordinary perception.
So Jacques would never be behind the church. So it was the unusual activity in the cemetery that I sensed earlier?
"Was my previous perception not an illusion?!" This thought flashed through Isabella's mind, and she felt as if her mind had cleared up a bit.
Isabella instinctively felt a chill creeping down her spine.
However, it came and went quickly, and Isabella soon seemed to return to normal.
“Nair, I’ll go with you to the cemetery behind here.” Isabella’s gaze fell on Nemus, though she herself was hesitant.
She had a vague feeling, but it felt like a dream, making it seem unreal.
At this moment, Isabella realized that she had made a mistake: she had been influenced by Jacques. She had never contacted Nemes, but she still instinctively regarded Nemes as an enemy.
“Alright, this is near the church after all.” Nems nodded.
"You two be careful, I'm too old to help anymore," the old pastor cautioned from the side, as if everything was normal.
However, Nemus could sense that subtle atmosphere.
Such turbulent emotions are truly astounding.
"How delightful!"

Chapter 36 Reminder
As we left the church and arrived at the cemetery, it was already completely dark.
Only the lights from the distant church provided some illumination, allowing them to see the tombstones.
Soon, the two arrived at a location on the edge of the cemetery.
These are all new graves, belonging to people who died recently due to the Nest Beasts.
Isabella looked at the graves and felt a great deal of guilt.
Then, Isabella walked behind a tombstone and could smell the stench of decay.
There was a hole there, and a lot of the rotting flesh inside was already showing.
The white bones were carelessly discarded to one side, and the entire corpse had been dissected.
The stench hit her immediately, but Isabella did not back down because of it. Instead, she frowned and observed the traces around her.
"Stealing human tissue? Are there still wizards in the Dorsal Fin Village?" Isabella asked, her face grim.
A wizard is an individual who practices meditation but does not believe in God.
The earliest wizards were demon worshippers who obtained demonic magic from demons and called themselves magicians.
However, they were later severely suppressed by various churches, and gradually magicians had to transform themselves, hoping to break free from the influence of demons and create magic belonging to mankind.
And so the wizard came into being.
Wizards are currently in a state of being accepted but not fully accepted.
Some wizards simply can't break their old habits; they continue to study strange and unusual things.
One theory suggests that the calamities on earth may have been caused by some sorcerers who studied certain taboos and then created them.
In short, while wizards aren't universally hated, they're not far off.
Most wizards either obediently submit to the church's surveillance and control, or they desperately try to hide themselves.
In such circumstances, materials for some witchcraft experiments become less readily available.
Because some of the magic of wizards comes from demons, there is no shortage of bloody and gory elements in witchcraft that require the use of human tissue.
It's normal for Isabella to suspect the wizard immediately.
However, she soon noticed something: "Why wasn't the skull taken with us?"
Demonic magic has a penchant for things like heads, hearts, and blood.
However, the body is currently missing its heart, but its head has not been disturbed.
“No, it’s not that the heart is missing, but that all the internal organs are missing,” Nemes reminded him at this moment. “It’s just that because organs like the liver, kidneys, and intestines decompose quickly, some completely rotten remnants are left behind.”
"Those that were relatively well-preserved have all been taken away."
Nemes's reminder finally made Isabella think of whale disease.
"Not a wizard. If they were a wizard, they would most likely use some concealing spells, making it difficult for me to detect them directly."
“They are patients with whale-like disease.” Isabella was quick-witted and soon determined the correct answer.
On the other side, Nemus also received information from Isabella that she had directly discovered the village guards, but had mistaken it for an illusion.
"So it seems the old pastor has something to ask about the whale disease?" Nemus believed that everyone has a purpose in doing whatever they do.
Even if it's just for fun, then having fun is still the goal.
If the old pastor had simply ignored it, the problem wouldn't have been so serious, but he actually stepped in to help.
If it weren't for Nemes' arrival, Isabella would never have discovered the problem that was about to unfold, which makes things quite interesting.
"The simplest explanation is that he has something in mind. Did the old pastor discover the controllable whale-like disease in the village guardians? Or is he raising whales and needs the various whale products after the whale people have turned into whales?"
As Nems made this conjecture, he increasingly felt that the old pastor harbored some kind of secret.
“I’ve found some clues, but I don’t know if you want to follow them?” Nemus asked Isabella, pointing to a bent blade of grass.
Isabella glanced at Nemes, then at the forest, which had become a dark shadow due to the darkness.
“Of course we must pursue it. Whale disease is extremely dangerous and cannot be ignored!” Isabella nodded seriously, and then a faint light flowed around her.
From the church not far away, a wisp of faith flew over and landed directly on Isabella.
Divine Art: Protection.
Believers flock to God, and God protects the believers; under God's glory, all harm will be avoided.
Under the effect of the protective spell, the person to whom the spell is cast will be safe, and the power of the spell will tend to make them safe, no matter where they are.
After Isabella cast her divine spell, she raised her hand, and a ball of light flew to her side.
Spell: Illumination Orb.
Isabella then went directly into the dark forest, working with Nemus to search for traces of others.
It must be said that Isabella is truly courageous. She is not a pampered noblewoman; she is a priest who can walk among people and feel their emotions, a clergyman who can come to remote mountain villages and search for murderers in the wilderness at night, and a true believer!
Nemes smiled slightly and followed.
Although Isabella still lacks experience and cannot truly understand what the real evil in this world is like, she does not choose kindness simply because of naivety.
The road at night was not easy to travel, but fortunately, one person was protected by divine magic, and the other had physical attributes that surpassed the limits of the Black Stone species.
Soon, the two had followed the trail for quite some distance.
"No trace left." The village guard ran relatively fast through the mountains, and given the complex environment, he quickly went beyond the normal trackable range.
"It seems we'll have to conduct another large-scale search in the area tomorrow," Isabella said somewhat reluctantly, scanning her surroundings.
"After you get back, you need to report it immediately."
"But do you think this matter can be reported smoothly?" Nemus then looked at Isabella and asked.
"You and Jacques are here to investigate something, right?" Nemes continued without waiting for Isabella's reply.
Isabella tensed up instantly. She didn't know what Nemus wanted to do by suddenly bringing this up. Was he going to silence her?
“There may be some problems in the village, but those problems shouldn’t be directed at me.”
"Don't trust external things too much. People will always overlook a person's problems because of their identity and some superficial characteristics."
"What exactly are you trying to say?" Isabella frowned as she looked at Nemes, whose words seemed to have a hidden meaning.
“You should question the suspicious points at the church earlier.” With that, Nemus walked away into the distance.
Isabella was left standing there, stunned.
Thank you for your support, fellow readers.
Chapter 37 Experiment)
"The person I traded whale skin ore with was Op from the village of Dorsal Fin. He was a member of his caravan, and he also said that Op was cooperating with clergy..."
This is Benjamin's testimony, and also some information he heard from the caravan member.
Upon hearing this news, Jacques was extremely excited, saying that he had caught the traitor red-handed.
Isabella was the same; she did not suspect the other clergyman in the village, because in many cases there was simply no way to suspect him.
The old pastor was the bishop of Airspring City when he was young. Although he left the center of power in Airspring City for some reason, many people still remember some things from his past.
As things stand, Isabella is one of them.
If the old pastor were truly greedy for fame and fortune, then as soon as he submitted a report, someone would immediately come to take him back.
By then, he will be able to obtain a considerable amount of legal whale skin mines, so why would he need to protect some caravans smuggling whale skin mines here?
Furthermore, appearing old is the ultimate form of disguise.
Most people believe that once a person gets old, they are no longer entitled to have any desires and should just wait to die peacefully.
Therefore, they tend to ignore elderly people who have difficulty moving around, assuming that they will not do wrong things because of their desires.
It's as if once a person gets old, the label of "bad" can be removed from them.
