This is an unstoppable black torrent.

Thomas's eyes widened, his expression shifting from initial confusion to extreme terror in an instant. His mouth gaped open, but he was too shocked to utter a sound.

His hands instinctively gripped the railing of the observation deck, his knuckles turning white from the force. Belatedly realizing what was happening, he quickly grabbed the communicator from his waist and used all his strength to overcome the trembling in his voice.

"Enemy attack!! Enemy attack!!!"

The piercing alarm shattered the tranquility of dusk.

Thomas's voice boomed throughout the military camp via communicator, striking everyone's hearts like a heavy hammer.

Inside the tent, the soldiers enjoying cream of mushroom soup suddenly looked up, their spoons falling into their bowls and splashing up a cloud of milky white liquid.

"Enemy attack! All personnel to battle positions!"

"Air defense system activated! Quickly—"

"The Sarkaz are attacking!!"

The cavalry commander's voice echoed throughout the camp via loudspeakers.

The soldiers dropped their cutlery, overturned tables and chairs, and rushed toward the armory.

Someone tripped and fell to the ground, military boots trampling over his back, leaving a trail of mud. In the chaos, a Lateran flag was torn to the ground and quickly trampled beyond recognition by countless pairs of military boots.

"Fire!"

With a command, a dense barrage of fire erupted in the air, and flickering light projectiles pierced the twilight, weaving a web of death across the sky.

Under their confident and expectant gazes, the giant net failed to trap the enemy.

The bomber group continued its steady advance, like a group of sharks ignoring fishing nets, coldly and resolutely pouncing on their prey.

"Sir!! The target is too far away; we can't effectively engage it!!"

A soldier's gun fired wildly as he cried out in despair!

The belly hatch slowly opened, as if a giant beast had opened its gaping maw to devour everything.

One after another, black Originium bombs rained down, tracing fiery arcs through the air as they plummeted downwards with an aura of destruction.

Immediately afterwards, heavy bombs, like black boulders, rained down on the positions that Sakota had set up with overwhelming force.

"Damn it!! Scatter, everyone scatter!!"

Rodriguez's roar was instantly swallowed up by the overwhelming roar.

The moment the bomb hit the ground, a bright white light flashed like the sun, followed by a deafening roar that seemed to shatter the entire world.

The shockwave from the explosion spread outwards at an incredible speed, like an invisible tsunami, mercilessly blasting and crushing everything in its path.

The earth and rocks on the ground were lifted high, forming huge mushroom clouds that blotted out the sky.

The surrounding trees seemed to be uprooted by an invisible giant hand, tumbling and twisting wildly in the air before being swept away by the shockwave and crashed into even more distant places.

The once-solid defensive fortifications were instantly reduced to dust by this powerful impact, with fragments flying everywhere.

The fire ignited by the incendiary bomb spread rapidly, turning everything in its path into an inferno. The interaction between the fuel and the high temperature generated by the explosion made the fire even more ferocious, as if it would burn the entire earth to ashes.

On the self-propelled artillery position, the expensive siege guns were engulfed in flames before they even fired a single shot in this war.

The molten silver flowed across the ground, intertwining with the burning flames and scorching earth and rocks, creating a tragic yet awe-inspiring scene.

As the shadow of the bombers loomed, dark clouds bloomed on the ground, and the path of destruction spread without any obstruction.

The lieutenant staggered out of the bunker, the sight before him utterly devastating. His eyes were wide open, almost popping out of their sockets, his pupils contracting sharply, reflecting the relentless rain of death falling from the sky.

His body trembled violently and uncontrollably, his lips quivered incessantly, and he collapsed to the ground as if his spine had been removed, muttering to himself incessantly:

"How could they possibly have such firepower... How is this possible..."

It seemed as if it was desperately resisting the despairing scene before it.

"Didn't they say... they only knew how to launch ground attacks...?"

……

The shockwave from the explosion tore open the trenches, and dirt and rubble rained down on the soldiers. A Lateran soldier was thrown off balance by the blast and crashed to the ground.

He reached out in terror and looked around, only to find that he was all alone.

"No...it's impossible..."

"How could those Sarkaz possibly have such a flying machine..."

Another soldier attempted to retaliate with a gun, but the effective range of the gun was far too short to reach the aircraft.

He looked at the sky in despair as the bombers circled like death itself, watching helplessly as the bombs they dropped tore the defenses to shreds.

A sense of shared despair spread through the Sarkaz. For most of these Sarkaz who had never been on the battlefield, their will to fight crumbled instantly in the face of such a torrent.

"Retreat! Retreat now!"

Rodriguez's voice screamed into the communicator, but it was too late.

Their lines were torn apart, and even Sakota couldn't help but burst into tears, but his cries were immediately drowned out by the sound of bombing.

It appears that during the explosion, their position's signal was cut off, and no soldiers were able to respond to him through the communication equipment.

Rodriguez lay on the edge of the crater, the wound on his right leg that had been blown off no longer bleeding—or perhaps it had stopped bleeding altogether.

The intelligence never mentioned that the Sarkaz possessed such a weapon, which means that this may be the latest development of the Sarkaz.

Their newly built fourth line of defense was torn apart by the sudden attack before it could even be put into use.

He felt a buzzing in his head; it all felt so dreamlike that he wondered if he was still dreaming, if it was a nightmare.

His vision began to blur, and a sharp ringing echoed in his ears. Night fell, and lingering smoke drifted among the ruins, like a thin veil shrouding this land of death.

In the distance came the sound of tracks crushing gravel, initially faint, almost like a hallucination. But as time passed, the sound grew clearer, accompanied by the deep roar of an engine.

Rodriguez strained his neck and saw a row of car lights on the horizon, like the open eyes of hell.

Sarkaz's forces are advancing.

Leading the charge were tanks he had never seen before, with streamlined turrets covered in reactive armor and additional armor plates on both sides of the hull riddled with bullet holes, yet this did not affect their speed in the slightest.

Each gleaming tank was followed by a squad of Sarkaz, whose weapons Rodriguez recognized immediately: self-propelled artillery.

Rodriguez felt a tightness in his throat; these well-equipped soldiers were far removed from the “primitive tribes” described by Lateran intelligence.

How did they manage to do that...?

Rodriguez closed his eyes, awaiting death. However, he heard footsteps stop beside him.

He opened his eyes and saw a tall Sarkaz looking down at him, the medals on the other man's chest gleaming coldly in the moonlight.

"There's another cavalryman here! He looks like he's about to be defeated."

A hoarse voice said.

"They're lucky. His Highness ordered them all to be arrested!"

Chapter 71 We Must Regroup Our Troops

Papal Palace

At this moment, the battle report was projected onto the screen, and all the cardinals were filled with shock. Their mouths were agape enough to fit a feathered beast egg.

Six hours...

The Cardinal of the Seventh Hall repeatedly asked if he was seeing things, his tone filled with disbelief.

"Two lines of defense have already fallen in just six hours?!"

In fact, when the fourth line of defense was attacked, the third line of defense was already on its way to provide support.

However, because the defensive line was destroyed so quickly, the legions of the third line of defense had only just set out when they received orders to retreat, but by then they had already missed the best opportunity to retreat.

After breaking through the fourth line of defense, the Sarkaz did not linger. Instead, they chose to continue their advance under the cover of night. Their aircraft were simply too fast, and the third line of defense had no means of anti-aircraft defense.

As the bombers swept past, they had no means of retaliation.

The third line of defense was quickly breached, and only a few Sarkaz soldiers managed to evacuate; the majority of the rest were captured by the Sarkaz.

Now there's bad news and good news.

The bad news is that with the breach of two lines of defense, they lost several important transportation hubs leading to Kazdel, and Laterano completely lost the initiative in this battle.

The good news is... because the Sarkaz had captured too many prisoners of war and seized too much equipment, they chose not to continue their advance this time, but instead opted to rest and recuperate on the spot.

To put it bluntly, I ate too much.

This was undoubtedly like a slap in the face to every cardinal, leaving them all feeling burning hot.

According to their envisioned script, their army should have advanced triumphantly, sweeping all before them.

Although they did advance rapidly and were unstoppable, it was the Sarkaz army that breached their defenses.

"Where did they get all these advanced aircraft?!"

"Their aircraft are nearing the limit of altitude; our firearms are ineffective against them."

"Damn it, the slightest mistake and their driver will die! Aren't their drivers afraid of death?!"

Ambitious people on this land have tried to conquer the sky, but they have all failed.

Because the height of the sky is limited, any higher they go, they will encounter an insurmountable transparent barrier that no one can break through.

From then on, they abandoned their conquest of the skies and instead focused on developing tactics and equipment to complement high-speed warships.

But now they have suffered a loss in this most inconspicuous field, and from the devil whom no one believed in.

This infuriated the cardinal of the Seventh Chamber.

"Did the intelligence agency eat too many desserts and ruin their brains? Why haven't we received any such important intelligence?!"

"Those demons have been preparing for war for a long time! Don't tell me these things just appeared out of thin air?!"

Knowing she was in the wrong, Violet, who was in charge of gathering intelligence, remained silent.

According to intelligence gathering, the Sarkaz had never used similar aircraft before this battle.

Even when they faced the Elector of Franz and Syracuse, they did not use these aircraft in combat.

God knows where they pulled it from.

Upon hearing this, the cardinal of the Fifth Hall frowned.

"Let's not worry about whether the devil is the devil or not. The most urgent thing is how we should deal with the enemy's aircraft."

"According to intelligence from the attacked fourth line of defense, they have about a hundred bombers, which should be their only elite force."

“Our initial tactical plans were all based on the premise that the enemy would charge into battle, so we were caught off guard and we need to readjust our combat plan.”

"If we can find a way to shoot down these hundred-plus aircraft, then the enemy's fighting style will revert to the primitive charge."

These words seemed to have opened a new understanding, and all the cardinals in the church began to whisper among themselves.

At this moment, the cardinal of the seventh chamber spoke again.

"Our air defense system is set up near the Holy City, but those aircraft are flying too high, and we cannot effectively strike them!"

"But when they drop Originium bombs, they will lower their flight altitude to ensure the bombs land accurately, and that is our opportunity."

Upon hearing this, all the cardinals looked at each other in bewilderment, wondering what the Seventh Hall Bishop was up to.

"But if we do that, our front will suffer heavy losses, and we may even face the risk of being torn apart. Such losses would be too great."

"So we need bait!"

The Cardinal of the Seventh Chamber's gaze turned cold, and with his words, the temperature in the entire church seemed to drop several degrees.

“We’ve recently arrested quite a few Sakortas whose auras are fluctuating, and it’s said that our police stations are almost overflowing with these people.”

"Now their chance to redeem themselves has arrived. Let them stand at the very front of the defensive line and wait for the enemy..."

Fidel's words came to an abrupt halt, and the entire hall fell into a deathly silence. All eyes were fixed on him, as if he had just made an utterly insane suggestion.

The Cardinal of the Fifth Hall was ashen-faced and clenched his fists, clearly furious.

"You're insane! Fidel!"

"You're using innocent lives to fill the enemy's fire!"

“They are the Sarkaz, our fellow citizens! Even if their aura has wavered, it doesn’t mean they are sinners! How are you any different from those devils by doing this?”
