Fadvi turned his head away and walked into the mansion.
Vena finally understood where Lisette's slight arrogance came from.
"I'm sorry to have left you out in the cold."
Xiumeia, holding the now-calm Lisette's hand, gave Vina an apologetic smile.
Vina quickly waved her hand and said, "Not at all. I should have realized earlier that Lisette missed you two and should have brought her back sooner."
After he finished speaking, he looked around but did not see Felix anywhere.
This made Wiener uneasy: "If I may ask, has Felix caused you two any trouble?"
"How could that be?" Xiu Meiya's smile widened, clearly quite satisfied. "Felix is a good boy. Since he arrived, the atmosphere at home has become much more lively."
"Let's not stand at the door talking anymore. Let's go to the restaurant and wait for them," Xiu Meiya suggested.
That's right, Felix isn't seen here; he's probably at the restaurant.
Having figured this out, Vena followed Xiumeia into the mansion.
Shoeia, who was leading the way a little ahead, tilted her head slightly and whispered something using a communication spell that only she and Lisette could hear.
It's unclear what she asked, but it made Lisette blush.
She stole a glance at Vina, but her shyness only intensified.
"Is there something on my face?"
"Vina couldn't help but say."
“No, it’s just that Lisette has reached the age where she should begin her bridal training,” Xiumeiya hinted.
When the three of them sat down at the table, Felix was still nowhere to be seen.
But Venere's mind was already preoccupied with the whispered conversation between the mother and daughter.
This feeling of wanting to know but not being able to hear was like an itch in his heart.
Having changed his clothes, Fadvi took a seat with his back to the door, and coughed lightly as if to announce his arrival.
Xiumeia then reluctantly ended her conversation with her daughter.
Fadevi didn't say much, but simply reached out and gently shook the bell on the table.
The waiter outside seemed to have received a clear order, and quickly and politely opened the restaurant door.
The person who pushed the food cart up was someone none of the four had expected.
"Here comes the chicken soup!"
Felix cheerfully announced the names of the dishes.
Chapter 492 The Imposter Maid Who Stole Food
Felix might look good in a maid outfit, but he's definitely not a good maid.
Who would take in a maid who sneaks food while the dishes are being served?
Wiener glanced at the clear soup in the bowl, still holding Felix's ear, and with an expression that said, "I knew it would come to this," she demanded, "You'd better explain to me where the chicken went?"
Felix winced in pain, but still tried to argue, "Isn't it normal that there's no chicken in chicken soup?"
He appeared quite self-righteous, but perhaps he would have been more convincing if the grease on his lips had been wiped away first.
It would be one thing if he were just sneaking a bite at home, but to do this while visiting someone's home is really giving Venus a headache.
"I apologize for making you both laugh."
Vina released Felix and bowed to both of his masters.
"Heh, after all, it's Felix."
Xiumeia was not angry about this; instead, she began to appreciate it with great interest.
Felix, who always manages to keep Fadvi completely under his control, is completely submissive to Wiener; truly, there's always someone who can subdue another.
Listy, who was standing nearby, was also amused by Felix's appearance.
She stood up gracefully, took a delicate handkerchief from her pocket, gently wiped Felix's mouth, and then helped him sit down.
Although it was the same style of clothing as the maid's at home, he wore it with a different feel, which made Lisette suddenly understand why someone was so fond of maid outfits.
After Felix was seated, Fadvi rang the bell again, and this time a clearly experienced maid pushed the food cart in.
The maid efficiently cleaned up the mess Felix had made, distributing fresh soup to everyone, including Felix who had just taken his seat, clearly indicating that she was prepared.
“Carlo, can you explain what’s going on?” Faldevi asked.
Carlo held the plate to his face and said frankly, "Mr. Felix asked me for a maid uniform, saying he wanted to experience what it's like to be a proper maid."
If it were someone else making such a strange request, they would have been treated as harassment long ago.
But Felix was different; when his name was called, he even waved to thank Carlo.
"I'm causing trouble for you."
Wiener gave him an apologetic look.
“No, it’s mainly because I find it quite fun myself.” Carlo seemed to enjoy it even more than Felix. “Besides, Mr. Felix has helped us a lot.”
“I hope he’s not just helping with the food tasting,” Viner couldn’t help but sigh and rub her forehead.
"I clearly helped others too!"
Felix did not deny the possibility of tasting the food.
“That’s right, even the head chef has praised Mr. Felix’s knife skills,” Carlo testified.
"So, Felix contributed to today's meal?" Xiumeia asked with some surprise. "It's much better than Lisette's."
“Mom!” Lisette glanced at her mother, embarrassed and annoyed.
"To win a man's heart, you must first win his stomach. How can you succeed if you can't cook?" Xiu Meiya lectured.
“I disagree! Our precious daughter isn’t going to suffer with this guy. If he really likes her, would he look down on her just because she can’t cook? Lisette, Dad’s on your side!” Fadvi said indignantly.
He had rarely raised his voice to his wife in his life, but for his daughter's sake, he felt he had to stand up for her.
"Mom will teach you a dish that will make a man fall head over heels for you."
“I want to learn!” Lisette said firmly.
The speed of his daughter's betrayal made Fadvi clutch his chest, almost unable to breathe.
Wiener reached behind Felix and grabbed a handful of his hair.
"Vina, what are you doing now?!" Felix said, displeased.
“I just suddenly feel that you are burdened with some sins,” Viner sighed.
He was probably the one among those present who knew Felix's culinary skills best.
It's not that Felix's cooking skills are bad, the problem is that his dishes are always eaten before they can be served.
With that grab just now, Vena had already received a complaint from the Demon Blade Thousand Blades. A weapon strong enough to fight against demons was being used to cut meat with fancy knives. When had it ever suffered such injustice?
Soon, the meal was served.
The conversation at the table had shifted from cooking to Lisette's journey home.
Lisette did most of the talking, while Venus added some supplementary remarks when asked questions, and for a while, things went smoothly.
"...We encountered far more magical beasts this time than before," Lisette remarked.
Their journey wasn't just about sightseeing; they were often delayed by these magical beasts.
They happened to be there and rescued seven caravans, not to mention those they actively hunted down.
“Once food is scarce, they start to get bolder and attack human settlements. This is a common occurrence every year after winter sets in.” Xiumeia gently stroked Listy’s head. “Fortunately, you two are safe and sound.”
Every winter, the various herald academies would send their students back home so that they could help their families defend against the invasion of magical beasts.
"It's probably not that simple."
Fadevi frowned, recalling the two-headed frost wolf he had just encountered.
Most lords will organize teams before winter to clear out the surrounding areas in advance to reduce the pressure from monsters.
But this time it's clearly different.
The monsters that were eliminated grew back faster than the harvested wheat, and mutated individuals appeared frequently.
It's hard to say whether it wasn't influenced by the impending resurgence of the demon god.
"If it were just some remote villages or caravans being attacked in the wild, it would be within expectations. But this winter, even the phenomenon of monsters attacking cities has become more frequent, as if some force is pushing it from behind."
To support his point, Fadevi cited another piece of news he had just received: "Even the easily defensible Snowdrift Valley was almost attacked and captured by monsters."
“Snowy Valley…isn’t that the place we went to before?” Upon hearing the familiar place name, Felix nudged Vina’s arm.
His voice wasn't loud, but it was loud enough for everyone at the table to hear.
Fadevi raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised: "You've been to Snow Valley?"
He was all too aware of the extent of xenophobia in Xuelu Valley.
Even news of the attack in the valley didn't come out until more than half a month later.
“Vina was the greatest contributor to the defense of Xuelu Valley.”
When Lisette mentions this, she reveals a deep sense of pride.
“You flatter me,” Viner said modestly. “Jessica and Felix also contributed a lot.”
“I know my daughter; she wouldn’t exaggerate someone else’s achievements.” Fadey’s eyes instantly turned serious. “Could you tell me what happened?”
“Of course.” Wiener nodded.
Chapter 493 Fadevi's Relief
Wiener was careful to keep his distance and only recounted the general course of events surrounding the attack on Snowdrift Valley.
“So it was a demon apostle behind it all, no wonder…” Fadvi muttered to himself, the doubt in his eyes instantly turning into realization.
Even though Snowdrift Valley's military strength far surpasses that of Cordelia, the Demon Apostles are still extremely difficult opponents.
"So, the Demon-Seeking Compass you mentioned?" Fadevi looked at Vina expectantly.
As a fellow lord, he also instantly grasped the key to this battle.
With the spear master Feld in charge of Snowdrift Valley, they are not so afraid of the Demon Apostles in terms of combat strength.
However, if those potential demons cannot be found, they will remain like a nail driven into the heart of Snowdrift Valley.
"I've also prepared something for my father-in-law."
Viner smiled slightly, extended his palm, and a delicate pocket watch appeared in his hand.
He gave Felix, who was still talking nonstop, a wink. Felix immediately swallowed his food, put down his knife and fork, carefully took the pocket watch, and then scurried to the other end of the table.
"Is this what they found—the traces of the demons?"
Fadevi examined the pocket watch closely, noticing that its surface was covered with intricate patterns and symbols, clearly not a random creation.
How do I use it?
“Just store magic energy inside,” Vina explained.
Upon hearing this, Fadvi nodded and began to inject magic into the pocket watch.
Time ticked by, but the pocket watch remained unresponsive, causing him to frown. "Could it be malfunctioning?"
"This is the first time I've ever seen someone hoping for a demon to appear near their home."
Felix, who hadn't yet returned to his position, couldn't help but complain.
“Uh…” Fadevi was speechless for a moment.
Viner chuckled softly, "It was based on this pocket watch that we tracked down that mutated frost wolf. The fact that it didn't react is actually a good thing."
