As she spoke, Fate's voice began to choke up. Ignoring Sania's advice, Fate prepared to go into the forest to search for Jiuxiao's whereabouts.
Sania grabbed Fate's hand.
“Fate, I know you’re worried about Jiuxiao, and so are we. But we must stay calm. The forest at night is far too dangerous for us. If it were our prime, it would be fine, but now, we can barely protect ourselves if we enter the forest, how can we find Jiuxiao?”
Seeing Fate remain silent with her head down, Sania continued, "We can't act blindly. Jiuxiao certainly doesn't want us to blindly search for him, nor does he want us to get hurt. Jiuxiao is a smart and brave person, and we can only choose to trust him now."
Upon hearing this, Fate deflated like a punctured balloon, her spirits immediately drooping. She squatted down, hugged her knees, buried her head deeply in them, and remained silent, lost in thought.
Seeing Fate's withdrawn state, Sania went over and gently hugged her as she huddled in the corner.
"Don't worry too much. We should believe that Jiuxiao is a lucky person and will be protected by heaven. He has brought me through so many dangers, so I believe he can turn this danger into safety as well. Maybe Jiuxiao was just delayed by something. If Jiuxiao hasn't returned by tomorrow morning, we'll go to the forest to look for him, okay?"
Even so, Sania was actually very worried about Jiuxiao. She used exploration magic from time to time, hoping that the figure would appear in her senses, but it was all in vain. At this time, Jiuxiao was still shivering alone in the forest.
The perspective shifts to Jiuxiao's side. After finishing the boiled bird eggs he had brought, he found a sheltered rock and made a small nest with dry grass. He then covered it with the wild boar skin he had found during the day. Although it smelled terrible, it served as a warm haven in the cold night.
Curled up in his makeshift shelter, gazing at the starry sky, Jiu Xiao felt a mix of anticipation for the unknown tomorrow and deep longing for his companions back at camp. He dared not fall asleep, forcing himself to stay awake; the wilderness offered him no sense of security.
Tonight is destined to be a sleepless night, for both the girls and Jiuxiao.
Chapter Sixteen: Sorrowful? Not shameful at all!
The next morning, as dawn broke, Jiu Xiao eagerly packed his belongings. After filling a Coke bottle with water from a pond, he hurried back to camp, forgetting his original plan to collect banana seeds, and rushed back along the marks he had left behind.
Just as they emerged from the forest, they encountered Sania and Fate, who looked extremely anxious.
"Brother Jiuxiao!"
Fate rushed away from Sania almost instantly, her eyes glistening with tears, yet also with the joy of seeing the light again. She threw herself into Jiuxiao's arms, hugging him tightly, as if afraid that this was just a brief and beautiful dream.
Sania also came to Jiuxiao's side, looked him over, and only after finding that he was not injured did she feel relieved.
Jiuxiao was caught off guard by the sudden hug, but he quickly felt the warmth and reassurance emanating from Fate. He gently patted Fate's back and soothed her tenderly, "I'm fine, Fate. I'm sorry for making you worry. It's my fault."
Sania quickly stepped forward, her eyes filled with reproach, but even more so with concern.
"Jiuxiao, do you know how worried we were about you? The forest is so dangerous at night, how could you leave there alone?"
Her tone was very stern; it was the first time Jiu Xiao had ever seen Sania with such a reproachful expression.
Jiuxiao lowered his head apologetically and explained, "I'm sorry for making you worry. I was just thinking about finding a water source as soon as possible, I didn't expect it to take so long. Before I knew it, it got dark as we were wandering around in the woods."
Sania sighed. She knew that Jiuxiao did not mean to worry them, but was forced by circumstances.
"Don't take such risks next time. You said yourself that we're a team and should face difficulties together. Besides, if something happens to you, we..."
Sania fell silent after saying this, but her meaning was crystal clear. This heavy trust reminded Jiu Xiao once again that he must never act so rashly again.
Jiuxiao nodded and solemnly promised, "I remember, I won't do it again."
Gently pushing away Fate who was holding him, he grasped the girl's shoulders with both hands. Faint tear stains clung to her haggard face. Upon seeing this, Jiu Xiao felt as if his heart had been gripped tightly by something, an indescribable feeling of suffocation and pain.
"I'm sorry, Fate. I promised to protect you, but I've made you worry about me. I'm a terrible older brother."
Fate shook her head without saying a word, and buried her face in Jiu Xiao's arms again, everything understood without being spoken.
The three returned to camp together. On the way, Jiu Xiao shared his experiences in the forest, including how he found water and how he kept warm in the cold night. He glossed over all the hardships and focused on sharing his joy after finding water.
That's how men are; they only share good news and never bad. No matter how many setbacks or grievances they encounter outside, they will only bury these negative emotions deep inside.
The two girls listened attentively, occasionally asking about details. Jiu Xiao brushed them off lightly, wanting to project a reliable image of someone courageous, capable, and at ease to the girls.
Back at camp, Jiu Xiao noticed the girls' exhaustion. Not only did Fate look pale, but Sania was also listless. After confirming Jiu Xiao's safety, they relaxed, and fatigue immediately washed over them.
Jiuxiao was also exhausted; he barely got any rest last night.
"Everyone should go and get some sleep. We can't work like this. Now that we've found a water source, it's okay to slow down a bit."
None of the girls objected, but this time, while sleeping, Jiu Xiao was sandwiched between Fate and Sania, their arms tightly clasped around his. Even with this blessing of having two women, he felt no romantic feelings whatsoever.
His utterly exhausted body, coupled with the reliance and warmth from his companions, brought him an unprecedented sense of peace. He gently closed his eyes, letting the weariness wash over him, his hazy consciousness teetering on the edge of dream and reality. Jiu Xiao seemed to feel the soft breaths of the two beside him; they were the gentlest whispers in the morning breeze, soothing every corner of his heart.
When Jiu Xiao opened her eyes again, she found herself nestled close to Fate and Sania. Sania's disheveled sleeping position had caused her skirt to ride up, revealing glimpses of her pure white panties beneath her black pantyhose. The fabric was nothing more than ordinary material, but when worn by the young girl, it took on a unique allure.
Unable to resist, I glanced at it a few more times... Jiu Xiao felt deeply ashamed of such a shrewish behavior and said that the more the merrier, I would watch it again next time. Jiu Xiao has always been an honest person who is true to his inner desires.

Sighing isn't shameful at all!
Just as Jiu Xiao was indulging his inner desires and finding great pleasure in it, a burning sensation came from his stomach. From yesterday morning to noon the next day, Jiu Xiao had only eaten a few boiled birds. He had confirmed that the water was clean, clear, and odorless. He tasted a little with his finger; it was indeed fresh water. His stomach was completely empty; there was nothing to digest. His body was protesting, reminding Jiu Xiao—it was time to eat something spicy!
I sat up, not wanting to wake the girls from their rest, but we were all pressed together, and the moment I moved, the girls were all awakened.
"Good morning, Sania, Fate, even though it's already noon."
Rubbing their sleepy eyes, the girls greeted Jiuxiao.
"Let's make something to eat first, I'm so hungry. I brought back a bottle of fresh water, so we can have seafood soup today."
As early as on the way back
Jiu Xiao had also informed the girls that they should not drink it directly unless in a very urgent situation; it should be sterilized at high temperatures first. After all, not everyone has the same tolerance as Bear Grylls and Ed Stafford.
The three of them worked together and quickly got to work around the campfire. They cooked a seaweed soup and roasted some wild boar meat, treating themselves to a good meal. After eating and drinking their fill, they began their busy day.
I first checked the evaporation of the seawater inside the coconut shell. After a day and a half of intense sun exposure, it had become viscous. In another two days, we should be able to get coarse salt crystals. The kelp had dried almost completely after a day and a half of drying, and there was a good amount, enough to last for quite a while.
There were also more than a dozen salted fish drying on the stones, all of them quite large and plump.
Suddenly, a seabird landed on the rock, snatched a fish, and flew away...
Seeing this, Jiuxiao angrily picked up a stone and threw it at the seabirds. "We worked so hard to collect these fish, and we didn't even get to eat them ourselves, but you skuas stole our prize!" Perhaps because the skuas had just gotten away with it, a flock of skuas soon appeared and circled overhead.
It’s not over, right?
Sania quickly ran over and protected the salted fish that hadn't dried properly yet. This was the result of her and Fate's hard work yesterday, and she couldn't let the thieving bird ruin it.
It's much easier to get food by the sea than in the forest. Now that they've found fresh water, Jiu Xiao plans to stay by the sea for a couple more days to see if he can catch some fish and dry them into dried fish.
We'll probably need to leave someone at the campsite now, otherwise the things we've been drying might get ruined.
After discussing it, they decided that Sania would stay and look after the camp, as her magic was more suitable for this kind of work. Jiuxiao led Fate, along with a net woven from vines, to the beach to gather seafood.
Chapter Seventeen Fishing
Arriving at the seaside, a gentle sea breeze, carrying the salty, damp scent, caressed them. Waves crashed against the shore, creating a soothing sound. Jiuxiao and Fite stood on the soft sand, gazing at the vast, boundless ocean. Jiuxiao pondered in his mind how to fish efficiently.
Fite pointed to a rock and said, "Brother Jiuxiao, look at the puddle under that rock over there. Could there be fish there?"
Following the direction Fitt was pointing, there was a puddle about a meter in size beneath the rocks. It was probably formed by the rising tide, which reminded Jiu Xiao of videos he'd seen before of people fishing by pumping water from the beach. His eyes lit up, and he immediately thought of a simple fishing method.
He touched Fate's soft, golden hair.
"Fate is truly my lucky star; the fishing plan is now in place."
Fate was completely bewildered. She had asked a question that had nothing to do with fishing, but she had received a completely irrelevant answer.
What is the plan?
After thinking for a moment and organizing his thoughts, Jiu Xiao began to explain his fishing plan.
"At high tide, fish will come near the shore to feed. We can find some puddles like those we just saw, or narrow waterways, and scatter some fish entrails or shellfish meat in them."
"When the tide is about to recede, block the passage with stones. The stones won't completely seal the gaps, and the seawater will recede normally. The slightly larger fish will be left behind, and we can catch them like turtles in a jar, hehehe."
Jiuxiao let out a villainous laugh like that of a Soul Hall elder, and the little girl next to him giggled at the strange laugh.
"Hahaha, Brother Jiuxiao, your laughter just now was so strange, it's not like your usual laughter at all... Hahaha."
The strange laughter seemed to have tickled Fate's funny bone, and the girl laughed so hard she covered her stomach, looking playful and unable to straighten up.
Jiuxiao feigned anger and came up behind Fate.
"Well, you little brat, how dare you laugh at me. I'll punish you properly today and show you what the authority of an elder brother is."
Jiu Xiao put one arm around Fate and tickled her armpit with the other. Fate, who was already laughing so hard she couldn't stand up straight, became even more unrestrained. She couldn't escape and could only beg for mercy repeatedly.
"Hahahaha...Brother Jiuxiao...Hahaha, I was wrong, please forgive me...Hahahaha."
Fate, who usually acts like a little adult, unintentionally reveals a lively side that Jiu Xiao finds irresistible. This further fuels his desire to 'bully' Fate.
"It's too late to beg for mercy now, hehehe."
Ignoring the girl's resistance, Jiu Xiao continued his actions, letting Fate struggle in his arms.
Fate laughed until she was breathless, nestled in Jiu Xiao's arms. To an outsider, the scene looked utterly bizarre: a little girl, nestled in a boy's arms, panting heavily... If this happened on a modern street, a kind-hearted person would probably have called the police.
The two played around for a while until Fate laughed until tears streamed down her face, and only then did Jiu Xiao let her go. After this playful fight, their relationship became even closer, the previous gloom was swept away, and Fate briefly regained the liveliness that a little girl should have.
Jiuxiao put away his playful expression and said seriously to Fite, "Let's look for suitable fishing spots and narrow waterways along the beach. We'll also find some shellfish, fish, and shrimp as bait, and once we've set up the trap, we can wait for our prey to come to us."
Fate caught her breath and said irritably, "Brother Jiuxiao, you've gone too far. How could you behave so rudely towards a lady? Humph~ Go prepare it yourself, I'm not helping you."
As she spoke, the girl turned her head away, her cheeks puffed out like a pufferfish, creating an incredibly cute contrast.
Jiuxiao poked Fate's puffed-up cheek and grinned from ear to ear.
"Fate, you look so cute. I wish you could express your feelings so naturally all the time."
Hearing this, Fate became even angrier, slapping away the large hand that was playing with her face and walking away without looking back, leaving Jiuxiao far behind. But her slightly reddened earlobes betrayed the turmoil in the young girl's heart.
Jiu Xiao wasn't angry when his hand was slapped away. He chased after her, shamelessly trying to make the little girl laugh. Although Fate looked annoyed, she was secretly delighted.
'So, Brother Jiuxiao thinks I'm cute? Hehe.'
After the two of them worked hard and set up several traps, they glanced at the time and saw that only an hour or so had passed. Seeing that there was still a long time before the tide went out, Fate suggested that they return to the camp first.
Jiu Xiao glanced at the two empty-handed men, and adhering to the principle that a thief should never leave empty-handed, he ransacked the bird nests on the shore once more. Perhaps it was the breeding season for these birds, but there were an unusually large number of eggs, like chives, one crop after another. If it weren't for the issue of shelf life, he could probably collect a hundred or so pounds without much trouble.
Back at the camp, Jiu Xiao immediately spotted Sania guarding the entrance to the cave and waved to her.
"Sanya, we're back!"
"Welcome back. How was your trip?"
"We don't know yet; we'll have to wait until the tide goes out to find out."
Jiu Xiao explained his fishing plan to Sania, and the girl's beautiful eyes sparkled as she showered him with praise. Even someone as thick-skinned as Jiu Xiao was embarrassed by this.
Time passed quietly, and the sun gradually set in the west. Jiuxiao and the girls brought the salted fish and seaweed that had been drying outside into the cave. Taking a vine net, the three of them went to the beach. They wanted to block the waterholes and channels leading to the sea with stones before the tide went out, to prevent the fish from returning to the sea with the tide.
After some effort, the three of them finally got everything arranged, and now it was just a matter of time.
As evening fell and the tide receded, the stranded fish gradually came to light. It's safe to say the fish population here is incredibly abundant; a few simple traps yielded a large catch, and quite a few of them.
Upon closer inspection, none of the three recognized the fish, but this didn't diminish their joy at the bountiful harvest. Jiu Xiao, holding a wooden stick, stunned the fish and tossed them into the net. In just a short while, they had caught dozens of sea fish of various sizes, including several large ones weighing five or six pounds.
"Look, this fish is huge!" Fate exclaimed excitedly, pointing to a shimmering silver fish, her eyes sparkling with the joy of a bountiful harvest.
Jiuxiao nodded with a smile, but his hands didn't stop moving: "Yes, we can have a feast tonight."
Sania joined their conversation, her tone tinged with pride: "This is all thanks to Jiuxiao's intelligence and the efforts of all of us."
As the last rays of the setting sun bathed the sea in its glow, the three figures were cast long shadows. Their laughter echoed in the sea breeze, creating a particularly warm and comforting atmosphere. The seaside scenery seemed exceptionally beautiful at that moment: the golden sand, the azure water, and the bursts of joyful laughter combined to form a touching picture.
As night fell, the three returned to the cave, their catch plentiful. A campfire was lit, its light illuminating their satisfied faces. Jiuxiao began processing the fish, while Fate helped clean the shellfish, and Sania prepared the cooking utensils. Soon, an enticing aroma filled the cave—the smell of the sea, and the smell of home.
At dinner time, the three sat around the campfire, enjoying the fruits of their labor. The fish was fresh and the shellfish plump and delicious; every bite was unforgettable. They ate and chatted, sharing the day's events and planning for the future. On this secluded island, far from the hustle and bustle, they seemed to have found their own little world, their souls finding unprecedented peace and contentment.
Chapter 18 Fate's Magic Device
That night, the three of them, in perfect unison, didn't mention expanding the beds again and continued to sleep huddled together. Jiu Xiao slept in the middle, and this bittersweet feeling made her feel like she was dying. Fate was alright; she was a little girl, and even holding her while sleeping didn't evoke any strange feelings.
Sania, on the other hand, was a different story. The girl's exquisite curves were constantly teasing Jiu Xiao's senses. This feeling of being able to look but not touch was like a cat scratching at Jiu Xiao's heart, causing him to suffer from insomnia several times.
In this agonizing silence, Jiu Xiao gradually came to experience a different kind of delicate and tender emotion. When the night was deep and all was quiet, she could clearly hear Sania's even breathing and Fate's occasional murmurs in her sleep, which gradually calmed her mind. This unreserved trust made her realize that perhaps this crowdedness and inconvenience were another manifestation of the deep affection between them, proof of their mutual dependence and comfort.
And so, in the night filled with conflicting emotions and desires, Jiu Xiao gradually drifted off to sleep. In her dream, she seemed to see the three of them working hand in hand, creating a beautiful home together, a place with warm sunshine, clear seawater, and ever-smiling faces. This dream was so real, so beautiful, that Jiu Xiao couldn't help but smile happily even in her sleep.
As the first rays of sunlight pierced through the cracks in the grotto, illuminating the entire space, Jiu Xiao slowly opened her eyes. Remarkably, she was the last to wake up today. She noticed that Fate and Sania were already awake and preparing breakfast.
"Good morning, Jiuxiao." Fate was the first to notice her movement and greeted her with a smile.
"Good morning, why are you all so angry so early today?" Jiu Xiao asked curiously.
Sania turned her head and said, "It's already eight o'clock. Come to think of it, this is the first time I've seen you sleep in. Didn't you get enough rest?"
Jiu Xiao dared not respond to that question; he couldn't very well reveal his wicked thoughts, could he? Jiu Xiao immediately changed the subject.
"It's nice to sleep in sometimes, I'll help make breakfast too."
