The corners of her mouth unconsciously turned up.
"Doctor, it seems I should thank you for your actions. You've inadvertently helped me achieve a win-win collaboration."
Russell was in a very good mood: "You still underestimate the complexity between countries. When faced with obvious interests, friendship is not worth mentioning."
Murphy's final decision not to pursue the killer's identity was, in a way, a final farewell to their friendship with Rhodes Island.
The staff member standing next to her blinked, a look of realization crossing his face.
"High Knight Commander, are you saying that the assassin who killed that count was from Rhodes Island?" a staff member whispered. "Is Rhodes Island trying to use the count's life to stir up international conflict?"
Russell remained noncommittal.
She didn't think the Doctor would actually dare to do these things. In the end, it was likely that he would just use Letania's power to make Kazimierz nervous, thereby forcing the internal strife between the Overseer's Council and the Federation to pause.
Once both sides calm down, the final match of the Shining Knights will naturally be uneventful.
“You’re too clever for your own good, Doctor,” Russell sighed. “With me here, it would have been impossible for the Federation to touch the Shining Knights in the slightest. Unfortunately, you don’t understand the significance of the name Nearl to Kazimierz.”
I won't blame you. I hope Letania's reaction will serve as a wake-up call for you, so you'll behave like a proper business and continue cooperating with Casimir.
The staff member pondered for a moment and then asked for instructions:
"Should we continue to pressure the beach umbrella company to find out the killer's identity?"
"Why not?" Russell chuckled. "Knowing the murderer but not revealing it is one of two different things than not knowing the murderer at all."
"I understand."
The staff immediately accepted the order.
Time passed day by day, and before we knew it, it was the day of the highly anticipated final.
Because of the growing rumors about the Blood Knights withdrawing from the tournament, and the fact that both participants are infected, this year's Knights Tournament finals have become the most watched match in Kazimierz's history.
"Luckily I made it, but...there were so many people!"
Amiya and the Doctor finally managed to squeeze through the crowd and reach their assigned seats in the stands.
Although the tickets Russell sent were criticized by the doctor, they were still front-row seats that were hard to come by and were among the best seats to watch the game.
The Doctor looked around and deliberately shielded Amiya, Shining, and Nightingale who had come with her from the crowded throng.
He just suffered from being jostled and pushed around.
"Tsk, where has that white-haired dog been these past few days? If he were here, I wouldn't be the only one being squeezed in here," the doctor couldn't help but complain.
“Mr. Qi Yan must be busy with his own things,” Amiya assured him.
"What a load of crap he's been doing!" the professor complained. "He's already taken care of everything for Nearl. All the obstacles Nearl will face are piled up at once. Once we get past this hurdle, the road ahead will be smooth sailing."
He can't just suddenly come up with a trick to solve everything once and for all, can he?
Only I am busy arranging this and that, drinking sanity potion every day until I'm about 80% full.
"Alright, alright, the competition is about to start." Amiya quickly reassured the Doctor.
The professor grunted twice and then ignored Qi Yan's matter.
Mob's booming voice rang out, and with his eloquent introduction, the two finalists slowly walked into the arena, silently staring at each other from a distance.
As Blood Knight and Nearl appeared, cheers erupted, shaking the dim clouds in the night sky above.
"Wow, they're really popular!"
Roy stood on the street outside the arena, hearing the roar of the crowd from within, and couldn't help but chuckle.
Monique's voice came through the communicator hanging in his ear:
"My team is all in position."
Roy smiled, not paying attention to work, and chatted casually:
"Monique, I've been having you practice your escape skills these past few days, you haven't been slacking off, have you?"
On the communicator, Monique responded to Roy's nonsense with silence.
Roy didn't seem embarrassed at all, and continued with a grin:
"How's it going with Little Platinum?"
“…I’m starting to feel sorry for her,” Monique couldn’t help but remark.
The poor girl who was being criticized by the two is now leading one team to confront another team with a tense expression.
On Platinum's side, there were three full-strength professional assassin teams, filling half the street.
On the other side, there were only seven people scattered around.
This is destined to be a crushing battle.
Platinum stood at the very front of the group, exchanging glances with the squad leader who was also at the very front of the Silver Spear Pegasus group.
Both of them were somewhat silent.
After a long while, the captain of the Silver Spear Pegasus squad finally broke the silence:
"The Unarmored Alliance... consists only of you people?"
Platinum tried hard not to cry, and spoke coldly with a straight face:
"Laugh if you want, I can't see your expressions through the helmet anyway."
Silver Spear Pegasus: "..."
"Hahahahahaha~"
Neither of them laughed, but a burst of outrageous laughter came from the bushes by the street, and at the end of the laughter, they even burped.
Upon hearing that familiar laughter, Platinum's ability to maintain composure almost crumbled.
The silver-speared pegasus were all startled and turned to look at the bushes.
A white-haired figure arrived first, followed by Qi Yan, who walked out trembling, his face flushed with a smile. He barely managed to keep the video stable by turning on the full stabilization function on the recording device in his hand.
"Qi Yan! You're still recording!" Bai Jin couldn't hold back any longer and broke down on the spot.
"You're Qi Yan?!"
The seven silver-spear celestial warriors immediately felt as if they were facing a formidable enemy.
Qi Yan tried to stop laughing, put away his terminal, and walked to the side of both teams. The original stalemate between the two sides was forced into a three-player Dou Dizhu game because of Qi Yan's addition.
He crossed his arms, glanced at the silver-spear, heavenly-horse-riding troops, and said with righteous indignation:
"Go ahead and cry if you want to. I can't see your expressions through the helmet anyway."
Silver Spear Pegasus: "..."
Platinum's face turned black with anger, but she was secretly pleased.
The squad leader of Silver Spear Pegasus said in a deep voice:
"Qi Yan, I know that the seven of us may not be a match for you, but you should also think carefully. You are standing up for the Wuzhou Alliance."
"Are you stupid?" Qi Yan asked, puzzled. "I'm a member of the Federation now. Don't you know the value of being a board member?"
The squad leader was at a loss for words.
He choked for a moment, then gritted his teeth and said:
“There are seven of us. Even if we are no match for you, a fight would still cause a lot of damage. I don’t think the Federation wants things to get out of control like that.”
Qi Yan smiled and said, "The destruction won't cross this street."
Silver Spear Pegasus: "..."
Inside the arena, giant axes and swords clashed repeatedly, sparks flying, and the Originium Arts of blood and light intertwined, revealing a strange beauty amidst the chaos.
The audience's shouts were deafening.
Outside the arena, Platinum and the other members of the Unarmored Alliance trembled with fear. Their golden eyes seemed to be filled with the most terrifying colors in the world as they kicked the seven charging silver meteors into a shower of petals.
"You guys are charging right next to Rhodes Island?"
"So you guys are just gesturing and putting on a show of protest?"
"So you guys are the ones trying to scare my little platinum?"
The silver-speared celestial horses were thrown about, feeling dizzy and disoriented. Listening to the clamor of their comrades, they were filled with both anger and resentment.
The team that charged out of the city hasn't returned yet. If you're unhappy, go beat them up! Why are you beating us up?!
Chapter 490 Finals
Explosions erupted during the confrontation.
In the smoke, the Blood Knight staggered backward, his feet carving deep furrows in the ground.
He silently switched the giant axe from his dominant hand to his other hand to avoid dropping the weapon in the next encounter due to numbness in his arm.
On the other side, Lin Guang's steps were somewhat disordered, and he kept falling backwards until he had to use his sword and spear to support himself on the ground in order to barely maintain his balance.
Without a doubt, the Blood Knight had a slight advantage in this clash.
The Blood Knight, not wanting to waste this rare opportunity, charged again, his giant axe slashing down at Nearl.
At the critical moment, Lin Guang showed no intention of dodging. Instead, she faced the imposing Blood Knight head-on, her sword and spear rising against the tide.
Their weapons clashed violently once again.
"Your movements are something that can't be honed on the field," Blood Knight affirmed. "You seem to be very good at protecting others. When faced with an attack, your first reaction is not to dodge or counterattack, but to defend."
Lin Guang firmly stated:
"Protecting others is a knight's duty, and dying for others is meaningful."
The Blood Knight remained noncommittal, but exerted his strength again, forcing Nearl back.
The two ceased their exchanges and focused on maximizing their strength and combat skills, launching repeated attacks on each other.
Blood kept gathering around Lin Guang, attacking from all sorts of tricky angles, but was always neutralized by the light.
Mob, who was in charge of the commentary, felt for the first time that his speaking speed was not fast enough, and he could not keep up with the pace of the two people's battle.
In this state, the audience wasn't really paying attention to Mob's commentary; they were all focused on the two sides on the field, shouting the names of their respective teams.
Maria and others were also present.
Martin's trio shielded Maria and Zofia in the middle, watching with smiles as they cheered loudly for Nearl, while the three of them kept a close watch on their surroundings, wary of possible assassination attempts by the Undead.
Amiya, standing in the audience, keenly caught Maria calling out to her sister amidst the noisy crowd.
She turned her head and saw Maria's face, which resembled Nearl's but had a sweeter and gentler temperament.
"Is that Nearl's sister?" Amiya asked.
Shining nodded in agreement.
But soon, their attention was drawn back to the game by the Nightingale's soft call.
In the midst of their clash, the Blood Knight suddenly staggered, struck squarely by Nearl's spear, and collapsed heavily to his knees.
This was the first time since the start of the war that a clear winner and loser had emerged on either side.
The calls for support for Nearl surged instantly.
However, on the field, instead of pressing his advantage, Lin Guang frowned:
"That kind of force couldn't possibly knock you down, why?"
The Blood Knight's breathing was somewhat disordered; his body was experiencing an indescribable, excruciating pain.
He was very familiar with this kind of pain.
Unlike the pain from battle, this pain came from deep within his body, from his Oripathy, but this time the intensity of the pain far exceeded that of the past.
The Blood Knight realized that his body had reached a critical point.
Rationally speaking, he should stop fighting immediately and seek medical treatment.
But the Blood Knight simply rose silently and once again swung his giant axe straight at Nearl's face.
Despite her doubts, Lin Guang did not let them interfere with her fighting spirit; she immediately threw herself back into the battle.
"It's truly dazzling."
