“Because they are terrifying,” Bray said.

Apart from the sound of the old woman cutting meat, the room was completely silent.

“Continue,” the old woman said, breaking the deathly silence.

"That's probably why 'God's Enemy' didn't send anyone here." Bray thought 'God's Enemy' needed to give him an advertising fee.

"Although other places were invaded by the Silver Race, many people still survived."

To be honest, Bray was a terrible storyteller and could only awkwardly recount what happened in other parts of the house to the people inside.

But even though he's not a good storyteller, what he says is still very engaging.

The sheer impact of the content is undeniable, and those around you can't help but listen.

They did think about the others still being alive, but they couldn't imagine how those others were doing now.

Now they know that there are border regions similar to Claw Castle; regions that were originally the main city but have shrunk; and old safe zones that have been completely turned into monster lairs.

Bray also talked about how terrifying demigods are, and that demigods can be killed by powerful people in the safe zone.

Overall, the two teenagers felt that they could still survive in this wasteland.

It will just be more difficult.

"What would happen if the 'Great Enemy of God' were here?" Tari of the Lion Clan couldn't help but ask.

From Bray's words, it's not hard to tell that the "Great Enemy of God" is actually quite formidable.

If there were a "Great Enemy of God", would life in Claw Castle be easier, and would their lives be better?

“It won’t get better, and it won’t get worse,” Bray said quietly. Bray’s old boots stepped into the puddle, splashing a lot of dirty water onto the wooden box next to him.

However, the owner of the wooden box didn't say anything, and didn't even lift his eyelids to look at it.

Because there are so many water stains on this street, some are from washing things, and some are traces left by rain.

The cloth used to line the vegetables, fruits, and raw meat was very dirty at the edges and was partially soaked with water.

In normal times, many people would avoid such a dirty and chaotic market.

But now this is the only market, the only place where you can buy things.

Even junk items are snapped up and bought.

Some people would try to beg with a bowl, but without exception, they all failed.

Despite this, some people continue to do it.

"Want to buy something?" a lizardman asked Bray as he passed by, starting to sell his odds and ends.

"No, thank you." Bray waved his hand. He came here to buy things, but not to buy miscellaneous items.

He came here to find food to get through the rest of the journey.

In Claw Fortress, you cannot find items that meet the requirements for laying mines.

Since there is no technological legacy in the ruins of the old city of Clawburg, it is only natural that there will be no special junk in the market.

This is why Taji and Tari were so excited when they saw the magic gun they had thrown.

There are probably very few magic guns in the entire Clawburg market, even if you include the broken ones, there are no more than ten.

However, the value of the items also meant danger, as the security situation in Claw Fortress was far from good.

To be honest, he was actually a little worried about the safety of the old woman and her family. It would be bad if the magic gun aroused the malice of some people.

Since I'm currently staying at their house, I'll just wait and see how they sell the gun.

With that in mind, Bray continued to wander through the market, trying to find food that could satisfy his needs.

"How much is this?" Bray's dead fish eyes immediately lit up when he noticed the ingredients displayed on a canvas.

Those are potatoes.

Boiling or roasting a whole potato in the wild is a very troublesome thing, so many people don't include potatoes in their wilderness survival recipes, mainly because it takes too long.

But this wasn't a problem for Bray; all he had to do was slice the potatoes thinly enough.

Perhaps it was because he had spent some time in the Federation, but for a long time he really liked the taste of potatoes.

It's not surprising that they were influenced by the dietary habits of the Commonwealth people, since the Commonwealth people really do consider potatoes a staple food.

Ah... he remembered that the Federal Restaurant's menu was full of "potatoes".

"Fifteen of these," the cat-eared potato-selling girl said, holding up one finger.

Lacking weighing equipment, goods in the market are basically sold by the number of items.

"One copper coin?"

"Yes." The cat-eared girl nodded emphatically.

“Give it to me.” Bray placed a copper coin in her hand.

He didn't know how to evaluate the price—was it expensive? Was it cheap?

I can't quite put my finger on it, but Bray is pretty sure the currency transactions here are pretty chaotic.

"Here you go." The cat-eared girl moved with unusual speed, just like the old woman from before.

At this point, Bray finally realized that the Kates were indeed very efficient.

Although the Kate tribe, regardless of age or gender, are all petite, they are incredibly fast.

She placed the potatoes one by one into Bray's arms, arranging them neatly.

Hey, you read that right, it's placed in my arms.

Because bags are in short supply, the girl selling potatoes is unlikely to give them away for free.

In the past, paper bags were acceptable, but in those days when even paper had to be used sparingly, such extravagance was out of the question.

Bray held the heavy load of potatoes in his arms, his face expressionless.

He admitted that he was too naive to think there would be bags or baskets for him to put in.

He could have easily stuffed the potatoes into his pocket, but he simply didn't.

The reason is that Bray's fanny pack is already messy enough, and if he stuffs things in it randomly, he won't be able to organize it.

Especially with these individual potatoes, if you put them in directly without packing them up, they'll definitely scatter all over the place in the end.

That way, next time I want to take out my skateboard, I might pull out a potato first.

After acquiring a batch of ingredients, Bray walked towards a nearby stall, and as he walked further away, he began to arrange his potatoes.

But he hadn't walked more than a few steps when he suddenly stopped in front of a stall.

Does this stall have anything that Bray might be interested in? No, not a single one.

The reason Bray stopped was entirely because of the "vendor" standing behind the wooden table.

He was a guy wearing a tuxedo, but with a butcher's scarf tied around his neck.

This guy was wearing a tall top hat and a mask with a fawning smile on his face.

His arms were spread out in an exaggerated manner; it was more like he was putting on a show than selling something.

"Come and see! Fresh mimicry beast meat!"

"And this stone! It's something amazing! It gets very hot; you can use it to boil water!"

"Don't miss it! This is an amazing stall!" the clown shouted.

"This is truly amazing! This shop owner never lies!"

However, despite his best efforts to shout, he was drowned out by the shouts of other vendors.

"Come and buy! It's a clearance sale!!!!!!!!!!" The clown retorted, placing his hands in front of his mask and megaphone-like.

However, it's unrealistic to expect to shout louder than others while wearing a mask.

"Shut up." A cold voice interrupted the clown's shouts.

"Oh! A regular customer!" The clown laughed instead of getting angry after being interrupted, his tone as light as if he had just sold all his merchandise.

Even if that clown were reduced to ashes, Bray would still recognize him as Jonathan.

And it was naturally him who said "shut up".

He didn't know why Jonathan was selling things here, but calling out to him would be the right thing to do.

Bray's gaze fell on the rock on the wooden table, and he couldn't help but frown.

Could this be the remains of Takaman...?

Although Takaman was his enemy and he ultimately did not dispose of his remains, Bray still held basic respect for Takaman.

Seeing the remains of Takaman displayed on a table for sale, he felt somewhat unhappy, even depressed.

“Mr. Monk, don’t look at me like that,” Jonathan said casually, waving his hand dismissively.

“This is not Lord Takaman’s body,” the Joker said, as if he could see right through Bray.

“No matter what I say, I would never insult a warrior who fights honorably and dares to burn his soul.” The eyes on the clown mask narrowed into slits.

"It's just a piece of stone that broke off from Lord Takaman's spear."

“So, Mr. Monk, would you like to buy one? With this, you won’t have to worry about not having a hand warmer in the winter,” Jonathan said to Bray, picking up a rock.

"Smack!" Bray slammed his hand on Jonathan's stall, staring at him expressionlessly.

If Bray had other weapons besides his two swords, he would have stabbed the knife into the wooden table to express his dissatisfaction.

"Don't be angry, please don't be angry. If you get angry, it will be very difficult for me," Jonathan said with a forced smile.

Bray's conversation with Jonathan was quite explosive, but the people around them seemed not to hear it and continued with their own things.

They might have heard it, but even if they did, they wouldn't take it seriously.

At most, we can just take it as the nonsense of those two guys.

This is a normal safe zone, a dirty market, not a hall for discussing world affairs.

“Calm down. If Mr. Bishuren accidentally draws his sword, this place will be reduced to ashes with a ‘thud’,” Jonathan said in a lighthearted tone, describing what might happen next.

"I don't think you'd want such a terrible thing to happen, would you?"

“Of course, I don’t want any violence to happen.” Jonathan magically produced a wine glass and began wiping it.

However, there's an inexplicable sense of unease about him wearing a butcher's apron while working as a bartender.

“Mommy! Is that a clown?” a child asked, pointing at Jonathan.

"I don't know, don't worry about him, let's go quickly." The child's mother quickly pulled him away.

Amidst the child's clamor, the mother and son walked away.

The two guys at this stall look quite dangerous from any angle.

If Bray is the embodiment of evil, then Jonathan must be the embodiment of the bizarre.

The moment the two of them stood there, they exuded an aura that kept strangers at bay.

Other passersby reacted in the same way as the mother and child.

Jonathan didn't need to use any tricks to be able to openly chat with Bray in the market.

This place is great; there are no weirdos around, it's practically a chat paradise.

There's neither the annoying organization of the Iron race nor the Bronze race, so nobody cares what you say or cares.

"It seems that the humble man and the precept-holder are not very popular."

“You’re the one who’s unwelcome.” Bray glanced at Jonathan.

“Oh dear, such words are truly heartbreaking. I’ve always considered myself incredibly charming.” Jonathan shrugged and casually tossed his wine glass aside.

The wine glass was picked up by someone less than half a minute after it was thrown on the ground.

"What are you doing here?" Bray asked in a deep voice.

"I'm not doing anything. If it weren't for Mr. Zhijie coming here, I wouldn't have come here."

"You were following me?"

“No, no, no, Mr. Ring-Holder is like a light bulb in the dark. I don’t need to do that to find you,” Jonathan said with a smile, his mask revealing an exaggerated grin.
