But tonight, what greets Bray is not a chimera.
Bray turned around abruptly and looked out the door, only to find nearly ten chimeras crawling toward him.
"Woo-woo—" the chimera made a muffled sound.
"Whoosh—" When it was about ten meters away from Bray, the synthetic beast's liquid lower body shrank into a ball and then stretched out like a spring.
The chimeras shot towards Bray like slingshots.
"Holy shit?" Bray couldn't help but swear.
“You weren’t like this last night.” Bray’s deadpan eyes betrayed his dissatisfaction.
Is this monster being too aggressive today? Last night, that guy was so leisurely.
"Boom!" Bray swung his greatsword, creating a strong gust of wind that dispersed the surrounding mist.
The blow was heavy, as the spot where Bray stepped dented.
The wooden plank groaned, struggling to withstand the terrifying power emanating from Brena.
"Swoosh—" Several times the synthesized beast head was hit head-on and cleaved in two by the greatsword.
Blood splattered on the old wall, looking incredibly gruesome.
However, the remaining chimeras were not directly hit by the mine and continued to charge forward with undiminished momentum.
Countless eyes were fixed on Bray.
Bray shifted his feet slightly, thus dodging what appeared to be a powerful attack.
"Crack crack crack crack—" The chimera landed on the ground and shattered like an egg being smashed on the ground.
His eyes were fixed on the ground, but he was still staring intently at Bray.
Tiny tentacles wriggled in the gaps between the skulls.
"Luckily, I don't have the habit of eating late-night snacks." After seeing such a disgusting scene, Bray definitely didn't want to eat anything.
Now Bray finally understands why those guys who took on the quests before said "monsters" were disgusting.
That's really disgusting.
The chimera's suicidal attack did not cause any damage to Bray.
However, it did knock the doll sitting in the chair to pieces.
"..." Bray looked at the broken doll and felt a little helpless.
He doesn't know how to assemble puppets, and judging from the appearance of this puppet, it seems that it can no longer be assembled.
Bray walked out of the house without saying a word.
The moon hung high, casting a faint light on this eerie town.
"Crack-crack-" A series of sounds rang out all around.
“Ha…this welcoming ceremony is a bit excessive.” Bray’s eyelids twitched violently.
There were about ten just now, now let's just multiply that by several times.
A single chimera was already enough to send chills down one's spine, but now that chimeras are everywhere, the sheer number of their eyes is enough to evoke deep-seated fear in any normal person.
"Clang!" Bray also drew his longsword.
Next, weeding needs to be done efficiently.
Life is so short, there isn't enough time to slowly explore an unfamiliar map.
So people just want to go on a rampage, pushing through everything to explore the map.
With no enemies around, wouldn't exploring the map be much easier?
---
Bray shook the blood off his sword.
The street was littered with the corpses of those chimeras.
No, you can't call them corpses, because those guys could still move.
It can only be described as minced meat.
"Woo-woo-woo-woo—" A strange sound echoed through the street.
Just when Bray thought the nightmare would continue, the fog dissipated.
The surrounding scenery gradually turned black, and then gradually emerged from the black.
Just like last night, the nightmare disappeared so suddenly that it didn't give Bray much time to react.
"Brave? Why do you space out every night?" Naruko nudged Bray.
"Is Bray sleepy?" Levy asked Bray, wagging her tail.
“I don’t like staying up late,” Bray said casually.
"Kara—" The familiar, overwhelming sound rang out.
But this time it's in reality.
"Brave, did you hear that? That sound from last night." Naruko became alert.
"I am not deaf."
"It smells awful, and it's so fishy." Levy's tail stood on end, and she looked a bit puffed up.
"Meow!!!" Fireball bristled along with Levy.
Then, a chimera exactly like the one in the nightmare appeared in front of Bray and the others.
"What is this thing..." Naruko took a step back after seeing the appearance of the chimera.
Is this such a damn bad habit?
"!!!" Levy immediately shrank behind Bray.
"Meow..." Fireball, that spineless coward, immediately chickened out.
“It’s probably a chimera.” Bray drew his longsword.
“Synthetic beasts… these disgusting things look like they were pieced together from human bones.” Naruko succinctly revealed the true nature of synthetic beasts.
Because Bray wasn't the only one in front of him, the chimera's eyes darted around, trying to lock onto everyone.
"This kind of thing shouldn't exist in this world."
“It’s utterly sinful,” Bray said in a deep voice, holding a longsword in his right hand as he walked step by step toward the chimera.
"Ding—" The sword was sheathed, making a crisp, soft sound.
"Sizzle—" Blood gushed from the chimera's body.
Then, the chimera seemed unable to withstand any pressure and exploded.
Blood splattered everywhere, but Bray was not touched.
Bray glanced down at the chimera he had just killed.
Chimeras are not as resilient as they are in nightmares.
It did indeed have many small tentacles extending from its body, but those tentacles quickly lost their vitality and became motionless.
As for the eyes, they weren't like in nightmares, staring intently at people even after death.
The eyes were densely packed, all with their pupils dilated.
"Dead?" Naruko looked at Bree.
“Dead,” Brad said.
After this chimera died, no new chimeras emerged.
"Brai, this thing is turning to ash." Naruko keenly noticed that the chimera was beginning to weather away and then turn into ash on the ground.
However, the liquid in the lower body remained the same; liquids can't just turn into ash.
"So, we've defeated the monster, right?"
"Who knows?"
"What do you mean? Is there something else?" Naruko was startled.
Bray just shook his head; he wasn't sure if there was only one.
There are countless of these things in nightmares anyway.
Who knows what the reality will be like? Maybe this chimera really is the last one in reality?
"There shouldn't be any trouble tonight." Bray squatted down and wiped the dust off the ground with his fingers.
It felt like ashes.
To be honest, the guy who put together this chimera has a really twisted sense of humor.
They managed to cram so many eyes into a single individual.
"Awoo~" Levy yawned.
Levy could handle staying up all night for one day, but after two consecutive nights, she didn't have enough energy.
The night continued.
But just as Bray had predicted, nothing else happened all night.
Bray and his men took turns resting, and managed to hold on until dawn.
---
"Is this the monster that's been plaguing our town?" William asked curiously, touching the dust on the ground.
It's hard to imagine what the monsters used to look like.
"But I didn't expect there to actually be monsters in the town," William remarked.
But why don't some townspeople feel anything?
"In short, thank you very much, your work is done."
If the monsters are dealt with, there's no need for Bray to continue keeping watch.
"As for the reward, I'll give it to you later." Now that Bray has resolved the matter in Knight Town, the reward should be given to others.
It is wrong to withhold payment from others.
"Get some rest. You shouldn't stay up late tonight." As always, William prepared to leave after saying this.
She's someone who really doesn't like to nag too much.
"Brave, can we leave tomorrow?" Naruko yawned.
She suffers from severe sleep deprivation.
"Probably," Bray replied ambiguously.
His intuition told him he couldn't just leave the town like that.
“Someone’s gone mad,” a man said breathlessly as he rushed up to William.
"Huh?" William looked completely bewildered.
"Someone's gone mad, Mr. William, please deal with it quickly," the man repeated.
“Take me there.” William frowned.
"It's right outside!" the messenger pointed to the door.
William quickened his pace and went out the door.
The street was a mess.
"Hahaha!!!" The man who was said to be crazy stood in the middle of the street, clutching his head with his right hand.
"Aa ...
The streets are such a mess because of this person causing trouble.
“Mr. Bray, could you please go and stop that guy?” William said to Bray.
