Azur Lane: Mobile Suit Gundam - Author: Neptune the Melon Eater
【brief introduction】
[Azur Lane + Mecha Fanfiction] I've been transported into the world of Azur Lane and, as I wished, become a commander. But looking at the girls under my command, I feel like I'm drifting further and further away from becoming a Fleet Admiral.
Command: Is that still the navy? I'm almost embarrassed to call you out!
Rob: Why can't it be the navy? It can float on water and fire cannons, do you dare say it's not a warship? Big-eyed Meng glanced at the "ships" swaggering above his head: I have something to say, but I don't know if I should.
[Warning: This is a work by a newbie, based on a wild imagination.]
Chapter One: Visitors from Another World
Decades ago, tensions rose between nations over the distribution of interests and historical issues, bringing war to the brink of eruption. Then, war did come, but it was a one-sided beating of humanity by the Sirens, or rather, by humanoid beings called Sirens.
No one knows where they came from, only that they are omnipresent on the sea, and invincible. Humanity's proud warships are nothing compared to them, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Faced with this near-desperate disparity in combat strength, humanity lost almost all of its maritime territory in a very short period of time, with only a small area of activity remaining along the coast and in a few nearshore regions.
Just when humanity was in despair, a technology called the Mind Cube brought light to this boundless darkness. From the Mind Cube, girls named Kan-san were born. They were peerless in beauty, like sea spirits, bearing the names of warships, yet wielding power far exceeding that of any warship, allowing humanity to see for the first time the dawn of victory over the Sirens.
For the first time, humanity set aside its differences and united to resist the Sirens. With the help of their ships, humanity reclaimed most of its lost territory, forcing the Sirens to lie dormant in the unknown corners of the sea, waiting for their day to return.
This was the First Siren War. Through countless battles, ships stepped onto the stage of history, and a new era belonged to both ships and humanity.
After the war, the alliance remained, which is today's Azur Lane. The ships continue to operate in various locations, fulfilling their mission to fight the Sirens. Among humans, the profession of Commander began to emerge, fighting alongside the ships to protect the peace of the seas.
The position of commander quickly became the most desirable profession in people's minds because it allows them to get up close to ships, even though commanders only live an average of 3 years after joining the job.
Meanwhile, our protagonist, Rob, is just one step away from becoming a glorious commander.
Rob, male, just turned nineteen. Currently a second-year student at the White Eagle Naval Academy. Furthermore, he has a little-known identity: a transmigrator from the Celestial Empire, one of the three main protagonist professions!
But until he was eighteen, Luo Bo still believed he was the one who had been kicked out of the Celestial Empire's transmigrator group. It was simply too embarrassing. Others his age, if not breaking through the void and achieving the Great Dao, would at least be dominating a region, possessing loyal followers and countless confidantes.
In his case, he wouldn't have been rolling in money, but he would at least have been penniless, a typical case of struggling to make ends meet. Fortunately, the Chinese people's talent for studying hard allowed him to outdo almost everyone else in compulsory education. He successfully gained admission to the world-renowned Eagle Union Naval Academy, avoiding the fate of ending up in a factory.
The moment Rob entered the gates of the White Eagle Naval Academy, a sudden "ding" sounded in his mind, bringing tears to his eyes. "What? So I do have a cheat code after all."
[The host's exclusive system has been activated. Please check the details later. A friendly reminder: if you continue to daydream, there's a chance your classmates behind you might use American-style Iaijutsu on you.]
After settling in, Rob began to carefully study his exclusive cheat, since his chances of soaring to new heights depended on this. However, Rob tried every possible angle and position, but apart from the initial system interface, he saw nothing.
"System, I need an explanation."
[Please focus on your studies and don't think about anything else. Currently, the system is unavailable for all functions except for accumulating experience points.]
Give me a reason.
Think about it carefully: can you become stronger without grinding for experience points?
"At least give me a glimpse of the future! What can you actually do? If you can't do anything, what's the point of my time working on this?"
This system lets you pilot a Gundam!
"!" Rob jumped out of his bed in the dormitory. "Is this true!?"
[Really? Host, are you satisfied with this pie?]
"Of course I'm satisfied! No one can resist the temptation of piloting a Gundam! No one!" Rob was so excited that he paced back and forth in the dormitory. Fortunately, the Naval Academy was rich and powerful and provided students with single rooms. Otherwise, if people saw Rob looking like this, they would probably think he was seriously ill.
"My dear system, what do I need to do to pilot a Gundam?" After calming down a bit, Rob asked tentatively, but judging from his still-breathing voice, he hadn't calmed down much.
[Do what you're supposed to do, and the system will award you a certain amount of experience points based on your performance, and unlock subsequent features when appropriate.]
"For example?"
[Go to the pier for some fries]
"???"
All of the above happened a year ago, so let's turn our attention to the present.
Inside the dormitory, Luo Bo was carefully grooming himself in front of the full-length mirror. The mirror reflected a face that, while not conventionally handsome, was clean and neatly trimmed, his buzz cut adding to his sharp look. His school uniform was meticulously maintained, and his leather shoes gleamed. Even so, he wasn't entirely satisfied, scrutinizing himself from side to side in front of the mirror, striving for perfection in every detail.
[This system thinks that's enough, host. You're just going to the opening ceremony, not a blind date. Any more dawdling and you'll be late.]
“What do you know! Every second-year student gets a chance to build a house at the opening ceremony. If I’m lucky enough, I’ll be going on a blind date!” Rob said, adjusting his tie as he spoke.
After a year of exploration, Rob has basically figured out how the system accumulates experience points.
The system will award Rob a certain amount of experience points based on the difficulty of a meaningful task he performs.
Passing an exam in a subject will grant the system approximately 20-50 experience points, while achieving first place in the entire school can yield nearly 1000 points. Even learning to cook a dish can earn Rob 3-5 experience points. However, if Rob engages in meaningless activities, he will not only fail to gain experience but will also receive a sarcastic comment from the system.
Once, Rob carried a pile of cardboard boxes from the first floor to the top floor, and the system gave him 2 experience points. Rob's eyes lit up, and he carried the same pile of boxes down from the top floor, thinking he could easily gain experience points by taking the elevator—how wonderful! After carrying them back and forth three times, Rob didn't gain any experience points and instead received a comment from the system: "Heh, idiot."
"Hey system, I've been grinding for a year now, when am I finally going to be able to pilot a Gundam?"
It will be soon.
"You've been saying this for about half a year now, haven't you? I'm starting to think you're just trying to fool me?"
The system's judgment is correct.
"Tsk, never mind, time's almost up, gotta hurry up and get there. This is it, my bloodline will be revealed this time!" With that, Rob picked up his things, opened the door, and left the dormitory.
Chapter Two: Before Construction
Rob, who had just opened his dorm room door, immediately spotted Garcia, who had just come out of his room next door. His eyes lit up and he quickly greeted him, "Good morning, Mr. Garcia."
Garcia turned around at the sound and looked Rob up and down: "Rob, you didn't prepare anything?"
Rob was immediately dumbfounded: "Prepare what? Why don't you just give us the materials and cubes we need for construction?"
"Tsk tsk tsk, you won't win the favor of the ship ladies like that. Let me show you what I prepared." With that, Garcia took out a booklet from his bag. "Look, the Bible." Then he took out a small statue. "Look, an Indian trinket. It's said that praying to it will bring good luck."
As he was about to take more things out, Rob quickly interrupted him: "Stop, stop, stop! Your bag looks like a small warehouse. Where are you going to put all that stuff? Let's get going. Why don't you drive? Perfect, give me a ride."
Garcia seemed a little displeased with Rob's behavior, frowning as he said, "Robb, you're definitely in trouble later," while carefully putting away the things he had just taken out. "And I think you're just waiting for me to go out so you can hitch a ride with me."
"Oh dear, how could this be? It's all fate's arrangement, that I just happened to run into you when I went out today." Rob put his arm around Garcia's shoulder and chuckled. Garcia didn't say anything, locked the door, and went downstairs.
Garcia, male, is said to have Spanish ancestors. Of course, none of that matters; what matters is that his family is rich, extremely rich. Because today's ceremony isn't being held at the Naval Academy, but at a ship research institute a few kilometers away, Rob will have to make some effort to get there on his own.
A short while later, the two arrived at the parking lot and ran into William, who was also looking for a ride. So they drove together to the ceremony venue.
"Hey Garcia, you've changed cars again?" Rob asked as soon as he got in. "You've changed at least three cars this year, haven't you?"
"This is the fifth one. This one was just replaced a few days ago."
"Damn rich people!" Rob and William cried out in anguish.
"Hey, have you thought about this? What if we end up building Ironblood ships this time?" Rob suddenly asked after the car had driven a few hundred meters.
The originally cheerful atmosphere was suddenly doused with cold water.
Yes, Azur Lane is not the same Azur Lane it once was. Iron Blood broke away from Azur Lane and formed the Crimson Axis. Last year, they launched a major invasion of Iris, causing Iris to split into the Papacy and Free Iris. Now, they are hostile to Azur Lane.
However, according to convention, the constructed ships need to be registered with their respective factions. In other words, if a ship is indeed built for the Ironblood faction this time, it may not be able to complete the registration process.
"I have some new information. Would you like to hear it?" Garcia, who was driving, said coldly after a moment of silence.
"what?"
"It must have been a few days ago when the Royal Navy's Hood sank. Its fate is unknown."
"Who did this?!"
"The Iron-Blooded New Warship, Bismarck."
"Oh my God! I feel like the world is about to go crazy."
Garcia's news sent a shockwave through Rob, who thought, "Could this be the convergence of timelines? Even if the worldviews are different, history will still repeat itself? The Iris split and the Rhine's charade have all played out. So, is the war about to spread to the Pacific Ocean?"
"What about Sakura Empire? Any news from them?" Rob asked.
"Sakura Empire? No, absolutely nothing. They're all so secretive. And the Northern Alliance is the same; there's absolutely no news from them. Is there something wrong with Sakura Empire?"
"No, I was just asking."
A few kilometers is not a long distance for a car. The three of them chatted briefly in the car before arriving at their destination. Although they seemed to have something else to say, they clearly had more important things to do at the moment, so they didn't think about it too much.
The Ship Research Institute is actually an institution that integrates shipbuilding, ship equipment maintenance, and the research and development of new ship equipment; its actual area is much larger than its name suggests.
Today's ceremony is being held in the auditorium next to the shipyard. The reason for this is the construction part of the ceremony. The construction of a ship involves investing Mind Cubes and resources to create a completely new ship.
If construction is successful, then in addition to the girl named "ship," a ship's hull will also appear. Therefore, if it is not built in a suitable location, it will be a complete disaster.
It is said that the first ceremony was held at the Naval Academy headquarters. However, halfway through the ceremony, everyone had to go to the Ship Research Institute for a major construction project, which wasted a lot of effort. So, starting from the second ceremony, the ceremony was simply held at the Ship Research Institute. Even the small auditorium next to the dock was built by the Naval Academy.
After parking the car, the three entered the auditorium, briefly greeted the students already seated, and quickly found their seats. About half an hour later, the ceremony began on time.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the research institute, a petite pink-haired girl was dragging a girl who looked eight parts like her along, running quickly forward. As they ran, she turned back to another girl with white hair and a military cap behind them, saying, "Hurry up, hurry up, Enterprise, we're going to be late!"
"So, what's the matter that's so urgent?" the girl being led asked. "Also, remember to look ahead when you're walking, Sara."
"You'll see when we get there, Sarah promises it'll be super—fun!"
The girl from the company sighed helplessly, straightened her military cap, and quickened her pace to catch up.
Returning to the main character, the so-called opening ceremony was rather lackluster. The instructor in charge said a few words and then gave a "please begin your performance" look, ordering everyone to line up next to the construction device.
The previously serious atmosphere suddenly became restless. This restlessness reached its peak when everyone saw the construction device.
Some began taking out crosses and Bibles to pray, while others put on unfamiliar trinkets and started gesturing wildly and muttering incantations. Rob had never seen anything like it before and quickly grabbed Garcia, who was also taking things out. "What are they doing?" Garcia replied without turning around, "Guess why there's a rule in the Commander's Code of Conduct: 'When you first meet your ship, at least make sure you look like a human being.'"
"???"
When everyone else is abnormal, the one who is normal will become the most abnormal one.
Rob: "I feel like I don't belong with you guys." (Image)
Chapter Three: Enterprises
"Oh dear, it looks like we've made it just in time."
Just as everyone was preparing to begin construction, a mischievous child's voice rang out. Everyone turned to see a pink-haired girl leading what appeared to be her older sister, a girl in a silver-haired military uniform, running towards them. It was Saratoga and her group.
Seeing this, the instructor waved his hand, signaling the students to stop for a moment, and then he quickly went over to inquire about the specific situation.
The instructor clearly knew several ships, so after exchanging a few words, the instructor prepared to return to continue overseeing the large-scale construction.
"Could we have a glass of water? Oh, and Sarah, could you please add a slice of lemon?"
After being signaled, the staff member next to them brought over three glasses of water shortly afterward.
"Thank you for your hard work." Lexington politely thanked the staff after taking the water glass, then turned around and pulled Saratoga back, who was about to cause some trouble again. "Sara, don't cause trouble for others unnecessarily."
“Sister Sarah didn’t cause any trouble for anyone; she just wanted to go over and see things more clearly.”
"So, old friend, what exactly did you bring us here for? The research on new ship equipment still needs our assistance, and we don't have much time."
"Of course, we should watch the students from the Naval Academy build it! Enterprise, let me tell you, it's super interesting, you'll see when you see it." Just then, the first student to build it walked to the construction device. He laid out a cloth in front of the device, then respectfully set up a shrine, knelt down in front of the shrine, and began to pray devoutly.
The company and Lexington were immediately dumbfounded, wondering, "What...what are they doing?"
"They believe this will bring good luck and make it more likely that new ships will be built."
Will this work?
“Absolutely not!” Saratoga drew a large X with both hands.
As expected, the student's devotion did not help him build the ship. After the Rubik's Cube and resources were added, the construction device did not react. Seeing this, the instructor immediately called on the next person and signaled to the staff to prepare for the next construction attempt.
In just one hour, even Enterprise and Lexington had to admit that these future commanders were truly versatile. In that hour, they witnessed various religious prayer rituals, broadening their horizons considerably. Unfortunately, however, no new ships were built; everyone had "sunk."
"Next up, Garcia!"
When Garcia heard it was his turn, he grabbed his bunch of gadgets and prepared to begin his ritual. Rob couldn't stand it any longer and pulled him back, saying, "Brother, listen to me, this is useless. Look at all the brothers before you, none of them succeeded. I don't think the ship really likes these things?"
Garcia frowned: "That does seem to make some sense."
Rob grabbed Garcia's bag. "Hurry up, you're still dawdling. You're still dawdling and we still won't get it out."
I'll trust you this once!
As the construction button was pressed, several golden threads suddenly appeared in the dock. More and more threads appeared, gradually outlining the shape of a ship. Garcia stared in disbelief, then exclaimed with elation, "Hooray, I won!"
"Wow, someone actually succeeded!" Saratoga, who had been enjoying the gossip for an hour, suddenly lost interest when she saw that a new ship had actually been built. She rushed over to take a closer look. "Hmm, it looks like a battleship, but I don't know which one it is."
"Hey kid, are you my commander? I'm Nevada, and I'll be following you from now on."
A cheerful voice snapped Garcia out of his elation. He quickly reached out to shake hands with Nevada, then hurriedly withdrew his hand, wiped it on his clothes, and then extended it again. "Carlos Garcia, nice to meet you."
