On the other side of the sea, Enterprise and Bumblebee finally arrived at the battlefield.
Seeing that reinforcements had arrived, the Sakura Empire fleet ceased its fighting, reorganized its formation, and began to withdraw from the battlefield, covering the wounded Shokaku.
The company then began retrieving the parachuted pilots. She pulled each surviving pilot out of the water one by one, her eyes conveying the message that they would be in for a world of hurt once they returned to port.
"It seemed like the flying businesswoman was quite angry. Did we end up causing her trouble?"
"Be confident, and let go of your feelings."
Chapter Fourteen: The Post-War
A few hours later, the three company members, each carrying several pilots, returned to the port area. Everywhere they looked was scorched earth.
The company contacted Rob immediately.
"Commander, I'm back. This is all that's left in the flight squadron." He lowered his head, seemingly somewhat dejected.
"Hmm!" Rob patted Enterprise on the shoulder. "You've done a great job. You've saved countless people. Without you, even more would have died." As he spoke, Rob wiped Enterprise's face with his hand. "Go take a shower and get some sleep. Your face is all messed up."
"Commander, thank you."
"Go on, go and rest. You've had a hard day."
After seeing the company off and saying goodbye to Bumblebee and the others, Rob led a few soaked pilots to find Major General Jenkins.
When they found Major General Jenkins, he was overwhelmed with various tasks. Reporting to headquarters, compiling statistics on casualties and losses, and so on were all quite challenging tasks.
Seeing several pilots enter the office, Major General Jenkins grabbed a file from the table and threw it at them. The pilots ducked, the file grazing their scalps as it flew past.
"You bunch of kids are pretty capable, huh? Going to find the enemy's ships yourselves, huh? Not coming back, huh? Leaving the military court to someone else, huh?" Getting agitated, the old man started kicking, each pilot getting a kick without hesitation.
Several of the guys who were so brave before now kept their heads down, not fighting back or arguing back.
It seems that the squadron leader who returned to Hong Kong earlier attracted enough firepower, because the old man only cursed a few times before telling his buddies to get lost.
"Young man, you've worked hard this time. I owe you a favor." The old man calmed himself down and bent down to pick up the documents on the ground.
(He lost it so gracefully just now, and now he's picking it up in such a sorry state.)
Seeing this, Rob quickly helped tidy up the documents on the ground.
"Kid, how am I supposed to respond to the report about you and your wife?" After packing his things, the major general asked bluntly. "You should know that there are plenty of bastards in headquarters."
"Fight however you want. They've already been on the battlefield, how can they hide now?"
"Kid, you're still a bit green. Reports can be completely different if you just change a few words." The major general took out his pipe, lit it, and took a satisfying puff.
"So, what do you mean, sir?" Luo Bo realized that the old man wanted to give him a hand.
"It's very simple. In the report, don't lie. But how much truth to tell is up to you." The major general lowered his head and fiddled with his pipe, glancing at Rob out of the corner of his eye.
“Then we’ll have to go over the lines properly.” Rob smiled like a little fox.
After closing the door, the old man and the young man talked for a while and finally set the tone.
First, the Major General emphasized in his report that the Enterprise's good performance was due to its quick reaction and being the first to launch a counterattack. The report wouldn't describe the crucial combat aspects in detail. After all, the battlefield is constantly changing, and it's understandable that many situations are unclear. If headquarters were to evaluate Robo's Enterprise based on the report, it would be that it's capable, but nothing special. Although it's the least ship-like of all ships, and differs slightly from other vessels, it's still within the realm of common understanding.
"Kid, in a few days, headquarters will definitely transfer you back to your family to do all sorts of tests." The report was settled, and next, they needed to discuss how Rob should deal with what was going on above.
"My family business only has one beam rifle, nothing else."
"Don't talk to me, I don't know anything." The old man waved his hand, indicating that he had dementia and didn't understand anything.
Luo Bo lowered his head and pondered for a while, then raised his head again. "Grandpa, I have another question."
"Say!"
"What should I do if they don't believe the test results and just throw me into the battlefield?"
"Once the test is finished, you can apply for a transfer. I have some connections at headquarters, so I can help with this. As long as your test results are normal, there shouldn't be any problem."
"Where?"
The old man stood up, turned to look at the map on the wall, and pointed, "This!"
"Donghuang?"
“Yes! Donghuang! First of all, you are from Donghuang. Donghuang is close to Sakura Empire, so if you say you want to go back to defend Sakura Empire, headquarters will not have an excuse. Then, Donghuang is far enough from headquarters, and its attitude towards headquarters is ambiguous. More importantly, there is no commander in Donghuang.”
"No commander?"
"The Eastern Empire's ships, well... you know, their combat strength isn't as strong as other factions. If a commander goes to the Eastern Empire, they basically have to rely on their own resources to fight, but the success rate of ship construction, you know how low that is. Furthermore, the Eastern Empire is too close to the Sakura Empire, and those Sakura Empire ships are like hungry wolves! They've swept the surrounding waters clean, so you won't get a single drop of profit there. Since nobody wants to go anyway, headquarters just doesn't bother sending any."
"Then as long as I don't make too much of a fuss over there, headquarters won't even know? After a while, they'll naturally forget about me?"
"Correct!"
Rob stood up and bowed to the old man. "Thank you, Major General!"
"Go away, go away! If it weren't for your girl saving my Arizona and the others, I wouldn't bother helping you. If you don't have anything else to say, get out of here, I'm very busy!"
After saying goodbye to the hypocritical major general, Luo Bo prepared to go see his daughter, since the next steps would depend on her acting skills.
White Eagle's command headquarters.
Sakura Empire had broken away from Azur Lane, joined the Red Axis, and launched the attack on Pearl Harbor. Slips of paper bearing this intelligence arrived like snowflakes. Command headquarters, especially Eagle Union headquarters, were shocked. Just two days prior, Sakura Empire representatives had been chatting and laughing with them; in the blink of an eye, their own port had been destroyed. One could imagine that the following news would be filled with reports of the Pearl Harbor attack.
"Declare war, we have no choice," someone in the command post said, and was immediately echoed by the others.
"Then let's declare war, war against the Sakura Empire, war against the Crimson Axis."
Far across the Atlantic, Queen Elizabeth was enjoying her afternoon tea in the garden, with her head maid, Belfast, attending to her. A maid with ivory hair hurried over, carrying a newly received intelligence report.
"Your Majesty, we have just received intelligence."
"Sheffield, be elegant, and always be composed." The head maid took the intelligence from Sheffield and immediately began to read it.
"Your Majesty, this is intelligence from the Eagle Union. Sakura Empire has broken away from Azur Lane and joined the Crimson Axis established by Ironblood, and they even attacked Pearl Harbor." After briefly organizing the information, Belfast reported to the Queen.
"Sheffield, go and call Wales and the others over. It's time for them to sit down and talk." The little queen put down her teacup, a hint of authority appearing on her face.
"Belfa! Where's my cake?"
The preface was retracted, completely lacking in authority.
Chapter Fifteen: Life is but 30,000 days
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, command was extremely busy. Working 996 (9am-9pm, 6 days a week) was considered a blessing; many people were working over ten hours a day, seven days a week without a break. There was simply too much to do.
So what is our protagonist doing at this moment?
Slacking off.
Although the port reconstruction work and the rearrangement of defenses required the old general to work overtime every day, Rob was just slacking off.
After all, reconstruction work was the job of the civil engineers, and Rob, a mere intern who had only been in the port area for a few months, naturally had nothing to do with it. Rob didn't even dare to look for work to gain experience. While everyone else was busy and having a great time, Rob felt that this street-smart guy who had maxed out all his points in the port area was probably going to get beaten up.
But the damn system has daily tasks! Yes, those three boxes every day! But Rob really can't find any way to grind experience anymore.
"Hey system, give me some advice. I can't seem to get this experience to work."
[Looking for someone to practice?]
"Stop joking, all the ships in the port area are out of service in the repair shop!"
[Going to do manual labor?]
"Don't be ridiculous, do you think you can accumulate 200 experience points in a day?"
【Why don't you go cook, host?】
"My cooking experience is less than my bricklaying experience!"
[No, before, you only cooked to fill your own stomach, but now you can cook to increase your ship's favorability. According to the system's calculations, the benefits are not low.]
"Is that really true!" Rob, who was lying in bed slacking off, immediately sat up straight.
Since it's free, why not give it a try?
From then on, cooking for the company became a daily routine for Luo Bo, who even developed a pattern. If a dish only yielded 200 experience points, it meant the company didn't like it, even if she ate a lot to save face for Luo Bo. If a dish earned 500 experience points, it meant the company was barely acceptable, but they would likely avoid other dishes. If a dish earned 800 or even 1000 experience points, it meant the company really liked it; Luo Bo's highest record was 1800 experience points from a single dish.
"Hmm, if my cooking skills were better, the profits from this should be about the same as those from cooking at Na Lai?"
After putting away the notebook containing the "Guidelines for Feeding Enterprises," Rob concluded.
At first, Enterprise was a little shy about Rob cooking for her, but now she's gotten to the point where she's waiting at the table right on time for every meal. Rob estimates that in another two weeks, if Enterprise doesn't see Rob in the kitchen an hour before meals, she'll start scratching at his door.
Compared to Robo, who still manages to slack off a bit each day (physical), the company's daily life is much more comfortable, with a perfect cycle of eating, sleeping, and playing.
On this day, Robb and Enterprise were reviewing their previous battle against the Sakura Empire. When they got to the part where Enterprise was surrounded by the Second Carrier Division and Zuikaku, Robb realized something was wrong.
"No, where's your beam saber? Where's your sword-mounted backpack? Go ahead and cut them down! I don't believe they can withstand it."
The company tilted its head and said, "No."
Rob almost choked to death on a mouthful of blood.
Rob said, "How about we find someone to learn from?"
"Nobody knows White Eagle."
"???"
Afterwards, Rob thought about it carefully and realized it was true. None of the Eagle Union ships Rob had ever seen were equipped with melee weapons! Maybe Saratoga was the best at melee combat! She liked to hit people on the head with her staff.
Faced with the fact that almost the entire faction was building ADC items, Rob couldn't really say anything. He could only attribute it to the faction's unique characteristics. But, it's fine now that they're using Assault Cuirass, but what if they upgrade Enterprise to Freedom in a while? They won't even nerf this stick-like character; it'll be soulless!
Having exhausted all other options, Rob could only turn to the system for help.
Then the system threw out a game console, which even had VR capabilities.
What is this?
[Training device.]
"But this looks like a game console to me?"
Game consoles and training devices do not conflict.
"What do you train with on a game console? Gundam vs. Gundam, you know?!"
[Host, you've even learned to answer first!]
Then the company started using this thing every day, never letting go. Apart from eating and sleeping, they spent all their time "training".
When he has free time, Robo will also play a couple of online games with the company to "test the training results".
Then Rob discovered that Enterprise, this little girl, would get furious if she lost a game.
After Enterprise was repeatedly crushed by Robo in several rounds, her entire demeanor changed. Robo wondered if her cousin could actually log into this account. He then went over and removed Enterprise's VR headset. Her eyes were lifeless, her pupils constricted, as if she had turned evil. Robo quickly brought up Enterprise's skill panel, and then simply marked her with a single "SEED".
"I'm happy to know you'll unleash your full potential, but is it really necessary to make such a fuss over a game?"
From then on, the company began a cycle of eating, sleeping, and playing.
That day, Rob came to the port area canteen to steal ingredients as usual. Then he was intercepted by Major General Jenkins' men.
When Rob arrived at the old man's house carrying two pounds of pork ribs and a bag of chicken wings, the old man was dealing with official business with Arizona. Then, the two looked up and saw Rob looking like a stay-at-home dad who had just come from the market. "Young man, what's going on here?"
“Grandpa, hurry up, get to the point. I’m waiting to get back and cook for my family business. If we’re late, she might start banging on the dishes.” Rob said, glancing at Arizona beside him. “Grandpa, are you serious? Arizona’s injury hasn’t even fully healed, and you’re letting her handle documents?”
"Commander Luo, I'm fine. I'm just glad I can help you."
"Alright, alright, kid, I called you here mainly for two things. First, headquarters has issued your transfer order, so get ready to go back to the academy in a few days. Second, come to my house tonight for dinner. I haven't properly thanked you for what happened in Arizona."
"You want to treat me to dinner? Sure, I'll bring my company over tonight. If there's nothing else, I'll head back now! I'm waiting to cook dinner!"
"Get out of here!" The old man waved his hand, telling Luo Bo to leave immediately.
At lunch, Luo Bo told Qigong about the dinner gathering at the Major General's house that evening. Qigong ate with cola chicken wings in her left hand, braised pork ribs in her right, and a bowl of seaweed and egg drop soup in front of her, indicating that she knew.
Seeing the system notification that the experience points had been credited, I thought I was done with today's chests. However, without a dinner, I probably won't be able to grind for the second chest.
"Commander, I want to have a midnight snack tonight."
"No way, you can still eat when you get back tonight?" Rob exclaimed in shock.
"The commander promised me three meals a day."
"But didn't you already eat dinner tonight?"
"What the commander did was different."
"Okay." A warm current flowed through Rob's body.
Chapter Sixteen: The Dinner
After lunch and cleaning up, Rob didn't bother with anything else in the afternoon since he had a dinner party that evening. Instead, he spent the afternoon training (playing games) with the company online.
