"why?"
If someone spends endless years, countless reincarnations, setting up a game of chess, sparing no time or effort, and uses the pretense of kidnapping to bring you before them, and then tells you that all of this was just to see you once.
You probably find it absurd and unbelievable too.
It's just like The Truman Show; everyone around me—parents, wife, friends—is an actor. From the very beginning, I've been the protagonist of a 24/7 reality show.
Someone goes to great lengths to guide you, satisfy you, and hurt you, making you believe that your current life is a choice you made, but everything is written in a script, and everything is something the 'behind-the-scenes entity' wants you to do.
"Could it be that my entire life is under your surveillance, or that everything is arranged by you?" Qin Jing asked, her eyes wide.
“Nothing can truly control a life. Although I have many abilities, I am not qualified to control your thoughts. You should understand that,” Su Jiu said sincerely.
"After the skeleton finished writing the article, it was bound to emerge from the abyss where nothing existed sooner or later. Many powerful figures invited him, and I simply brought him out at the right time. But an accident happened when he came out; the skeleton disappeared from my mouth and entered the cycle of reincarnation. Once it entered the cycle of reincarnation, we could never find it again."
"Have you entered the cycle of reincarnation?" Qin Jing asked.
“Yes, after that, many people were looking for the reincarnation of the skeleton, and it was really a coincidence that you came to this world, or rather, we are very destined.” Su Jiu winked playfully, “However, from the moment you came into this world and were noticed by us, this conversation between us was destined.”
Su Jiu said, "There are many lives that seem to be destined to be toyed with by fate from birth. Even if they want to escape, they still have to face it by some twist of fate. Whether it's me or you, it's probably the same."
“I will make requests to you on behalf of many worlds and many lives, but in the end, it is you who will respond,” Su Jiu said.
Qin Jing has accepted all her experiences and countless cycles of reincarnation as her destiny, as a necessary part of life, just as she is born to eat and drink to survive, and to work because she needs money.
It's not a matter of willingness or lack thereof, but rather a matter of necessity or lack thereof.
Of course, the decision to do it or not is ultimately up to you.
It's like when an ox grows old and the boy he grew up with comes over with a knife, saying he needs the ox's hide to fly up to the Milky Way and see his wife. So he silently accepts; it's a choice.
Like a blue marlin, when it fights with an old fisherman, it doesn't choose to swim downstream, but instead leaps up to fight him head-on; that too is a choice.
Even the worst, most unwise, and most unwise choice that leads to a bad outcome contrary to one's wishes, or the most absurd result, is still one's own choice, and one can grit one's teeth and bear it.
The one thing Qin Jing couldn't tolerate was that she didn't want her life to be arranged or controlled by others, and that others should decide her future.
"What if I told you I would refuse?" Qin Jing asked.
“Yes, it’s possible. Forcing someone would be pointless anyway. But before that, please let me finish explaining.” Su Jiu nodded in agreement.
“Then… state your purpose! I will make the decision according to my own will,” Qin Jing said firmly.
"I understand, then let's begin the meeting!" Nine large tails appeared behind Su Jiu.
The room was filled with a blue light, and a profound silence fell over it, as if everything had been frozen in place.
Nine transparent doors appeared in front of Qin Jing, unfolding and overlapping each other.
Qin Jing was inside one of the doors, while there seemed to be something inside the other doors as well, something that felt both familiar and strange to him.
Su Jiu's eyes gleamed with golden light as she looked through the nine doors at each of the beings inside.
"As I said, all worlds share a common source, just as the seemingly boundless universe also had a moment of creation. That source collapsed, or life did reach its limit, like the roots of a rotten tree that can no longer absorb nutrients."
“The various worlds of the past are like leaves on this great tree. Good civilizations will branch out and continue to grow, while bad civilizations will be destroyed, wither and fall to the ground, becoming nutrients for the tree to grow.”
"But now the tree has lost its ability to absorb nutrients, and it's only a matter of time before it withers and rots."
"We need an existence that created the origin, just like the one who planted this World Tree, a true creator."
"But the Creator is too mysterious. Even monsters and gods who are a hundred times more powerful than us cannot understand such an existence that transcends everything. It's not a question of whether we have enough power, but rather that we can't even imagine it."
Just when we were racking our brains but couldn't find a solution, the consciousness of the main world reacted with unprecedented ferocity, in response to the withered bones that had inscribed something at the bottom of an unknown abyss.
"But nothing produced by the consciousness of the main world is meaningless. The fact that you, once a withered skeleton, were favored by the world means that you possess possibilities that we do not have."
“But that bone is a bone, and I am me! I don’t remember anything about what happened back then,” Qin Jing retorted.
"This world will be destroyed. In about 3 or 400 years, the World Tree will completely wither and there will be no way to save it. Even if there is only a one in a billion chance, I will not give up," Su Jiu said firmly.
"Is something that even you monsters can't do really something I can do?" Qin Jing asked.
“We’ve actually come to ask you to come and save the world, to become the creator who, while not omnipotent, possesses unique abilities,” Su Jiu said.
“There are countless things in this world that no monster can do, such as swallowing the sun, or making humans and monsters live in peace... These are things that no one can do, but you have been identified as the one in this world with the greatest hope of achieving this.”
"Really……"
"So, what's the answer?"
"If I could see the day the world is destroyed, I would choose to quietly read my favorite book before it is destroyed," Qin Jing said calmly. Three hundred years was too far away, so far away that he felt it didn't matter whether the world was destroyed or not.
"Okay." Su Jiu accepted Qin Jing's statement and nodded.
Qin Jing realized that after she gave her reply, Su Jiu's gaze had passed through her and was now fixed on someone inside a door.
At this moment, Su Jiu's expression was more serious than ever before, his eyes revealing a captivating power as he asked a question.
"Is that so? You actually accepted it after all..."
"Are you sure you won't back out?..."
"I understand! Um... thank you so much!" Su Jiu sat up, straightened her collar, and bowed deeply to the person inside the door.
The nine gates disappeared from the space.
Qin Jing returned to the room where Xiao Kui was fast asleep beside her.
"Someone has already agreed, so there's finally hope for a solution. Xiaojing, just rest assured. I'll take you home in a few days." Su Jiu stood up, walked out, and closed the door.
Gazing at the full moon in the night sky, Su Jiu said softly:
"But fate always likes to play tricks on people, so perhaps we will meet again. Well then... goodnight."
The door to the room was closed.
Qin Jing wanted to say something, but felt as if she had been talking for three days and three nights. Her eyelids could no longer stay open, and her vision went black. Jing closed her eyes and fell asleep on the floor.
“yuyuyu…”
A white light flashed in the room, and a small, snow-white hand, holding a blanket, covered the sleeping Qin Jing.
He had a very long dream, in which a different version of 'him' was taken to one world after another by a nine-tailed fox with emerald eyes. As the nine-tailed fox traveled through different eras, he personally experienced history, witnessed the birth of certain things, and lived in those places for a very, very long time...
Section 47 The Amusement Park on the Mountain Top
In the morning, the noisy birdsong in the woods outside the house would wake the little boy who was fast asleep on the ground. He seemed to be having one long dream after another, both familiar and strange, both real and unreal, as if he were having someone else's dream.
Qin Jing pulled the blanket up, her eyes half-open and still half-asleep. By then, the sun had risen high in the sky.
The cool air made her feel sleepy, and she wanted to go back to sleep, but when she reached for the makeshift bed on the left, she found it empty.
"Xiao Kui?!" Unable to sense the person beside her, Qin Jing suddenly opened her eyes and sat up.
"What happened? Aoi is gone? Hanako isn't here either? And the others aren't here either?" Qin Jing jumped up and ran outside.
"Ah... Young Master Qin, Miss Qin and Miss Dongye have already gone out to play with the other children." The fox-like maid, who was cleaning the corridor outside, said with a smile when she saw Jing looking flustered.
Qin Jing nodded. That made sense. Once a child sees a fun place, they forget about sleeping in and probably run out to play early in the morning.
"Thank you, Aunt Fox. I'll go out and take a look too." Qin Jing thanked her and went out.
"Yes, be careful on the road." The maid watched Jing's departing figure before finally realizing what had happened.
"Huh?..." The squinty-eyed waiter touched his face in confusion, lifted the hem of his skirt. He had clearly transformed, there was no oversight, his ears and beard were hidden, and his tail was not showing.
In the past, Qin Jing could identify monsters either by their strange temperament or by seeing through the tricks of lesser monsters. But if it was a monster of the level of Su Jiu or Qiongqi, as long as they transformed into human form, she could not see any flaws.
Now, he has gained a new ability: when he sees a maid, he can immediately sense the demonic aura emanating from her, even if she is in human form.
Qin Jing's eyesight seemed to have sharpened, but at this moment he didn't think much of it, only wanting to check on his sister and the other children. As he ran out, he noticed there were many more servants at the dormitory building; after all, with so many children arriving, the place was full of foxes.
The servants here are all people sent from the shrine. Unlike the elegant and dazzling Su Jiu, these foxes are just ordinary red foxes with only one tail. They walk with a slightly hunched back and don't like people standing behind them, so they will keep smiling at your face.
But in a child's eyes, they are just some strange adults. Compared to that, playing is much more fun.
Qin Jing stepped out of the house on the mountain and saw a huge sports park directly in front of her, complete with all kinds of recreational facilities, including football, basketball, and even tennis courts. To the left was an inflatable castle with a giant panda balloon floating in the sky, inside which was a small amusement park with various toys for children. To the right was a water park; despite being on a mountaintop, a waterfall seemed to appear out of nowhere, with several sections seemingly divided below.
So Qin Jing embarked on a journey to find her younger sister.
Anyway, let's go check out the right side first.
The small shop next to the entrance offers free swimsuits, life jackets, and life rings. There are already quite a few children riding the swan boats there, and the bumper boat area is bustling with activity.
Upon entering the water park, you'll see a giant, brightly colored blue conch shell standing in the center. It's almost like the Creation of Adam fresco in St. Peter's Basilica, a landmark building reminiscent of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro that immediately catches the eye.
Without thinking much, Qin Jing stepped forward and tapped the clam shell.
The clam shell slowly opened, and Jiao Tu, looking completely bewildered, peeked out. Inside the shell was a miniature home, complete with a large bed and a large TV playing an idol drama.
The size ratio of the shell's interior and exterior spaces, along with the head of Jiao Tu that appears to be several times larger, creates a stark contrast in size, making it almost look like a prop from Doraemon.
"Ah, it's Shizuka-chan~! Good morning."
"Good morning, Sister Jiaotu, what are you doing here?" Qin Jing asked.
"What nonsense are you talking about, Xiaojing? Of course, it's about protecting the children!" Jiaotu said coquettishly, with an expression that seemed to say, "Why are you asking this when you already know the answer?"
'So she's been brought here to be a lifeguard?' Qin Jing thought uneasily. Come to think of it, this monster, although remarkable, seems to have never left this clam.
"Rest assured, Young Master Jing, the human children here will be protected by us 'shrimp soldiers' and 'crab generals'."
"Now that Lady Jiaotu has summoned us, we will never let them drown."
The talking creatures were a chibi-style crab and lobster, each over a meter tall. Before they spoke, Jing initially thought they were just mascots placed there.
"Are those your companions too?" Qin Jing asked, pointing to the mascots standing by the waterfall, the fountain, and the steps.
“Yes, Young Master Jing! The water park has assigned 100 of our aquatic guards, stationed in various locations,” said a chibi-style turtle prime minister as he approached.
Looking at it this way, Qin Jing discovered several of these creatures in various areas and corners both on the shore and underwater, their protection surprisingly tight. Seeing how dedicated these mascots were, Qin Jing felt relieved.
"Moreover, with the protection of Lord Jiaotu's water-repelling pearl here, even if Lady White Snake comes up the mountain, she doesn't need to worry about being drowned," the crab replied.
"Oh, thank you. I feel relieved to have you all here," Qin Jing said with a smile.
"Please rest assured and leave it to the junior staff."
"By the way, have you seen my sister, Qin Kui?" Qin Jing asked.
"Lord Aoi has never been here before."
"I don't know about Xiao Kui, but Youyou is in the ice skating rink up ahead."
"Really? Thank you. I'll go take a look over there. Well then, goodbye, Jiao Tu sister."
"Goodbye~! I'm going in too, you guys take care of this place." Jiao Tu waved casually, yawned, and closed the clam shell again.
"Yes! Leave it to us," the shrimp soldiers and crab generals replied.
Besides the water park, there was also a large building built here. Qin Jing went inside, and it turned out to be an indoor ice rink.
On the ice rink, a girl, white as an elf, was gliding swiftly, like a butterfly dancing in the air, performing wondrous dance steps on the ice. As she moved freely, snowflakes drifted down from the ceiling.
She has long, snow-white hair, large, azure eyes, and wears a white kimono with light blue patterns. Her figure is about the same as Xiao Kui's, but her ice skating skills are extraordinary; she is so agile that it's as if she's walking freely on the ground.
The little girl, who looked like an elf, skimmed through the snow and pounced on Qin Jing.
"Whoa!" Qin Jing quickly opened his arms to catch her. He thought she would fall, but the girl's body was surprisingly light. He steadied himself and held her in his arms.
"Xiao Jing! Xiao Jing!" The girl smiled and hugged Qin Jing, tiptoeing to rub her face against his.
The girl's face felt cool and soft. Seeing that she was wearing a kimono on the icy ground, it's no wonder she was cold.
Qin Jing pushed the girl away and carefully examined the little girl. Her light blue eyes were like a clear lake, reflecting Qin Jing, and Qin Jing's eyes reflected the lovely little girl with blue eyes and white hair.
Qin Jing asked in confusion, "Excuse me, who are you?"
"It's me! I'm so happy that I can hug Jing like this after I grew bigger!" The little girl smiled and jumped up again, affectionately rubbing her face against Jing's.
"Youyou?" Qin Jing looked the girl over carefully and felt that she looked familiar, but she had never seen a girl like this in elementary school. Could she be a child from Xiao Kui's side?
“yuyuyu…”
Upon hearing that familiar voice, Qin Jing suddenly realized that the little girl in front of her was none other than the Snow Doll who had been floating in the sky and constantly making "yuyuyu" and "yoyoyo" sounds.
"Ah! Snow Doll! So your name is Youyou!"
“It’s me, Yoyoyo…”
"Xiao Jing, play with Youyou!" Youyou pulled Qin Jing and was about to run into the ice rink.
"Youyou, wait a minute! I still need to go find my sister Xiaokui. Do you want to come out with me?" Qin Jing called out to Youyou.
Youyou nodded, then shook her head fearfully, "Yuyuyu... Su Jiu said that Youyou's transformation is not stable yet. There are many naughty children outside, and there is a lot of water. If you get wet, Youyou will turn back."
