The arrogant young woman picked up her wine glass, swirled it, watched the clear, pomegranate-red liquid ripple, took a sip, and a malicious smile curled at the corner of her lips.
Suddenly, a thud was heard from under the table, as if something of moderate weight had fallen to the ground.
Cheng Fei raised an eyebrow and looked down.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Lin Xuanqi rested her chin on her hand, looking at her with interest.
"It's nothing, it just seems like there's a ghost." The boy shook his head.
"What the hell?" The girl put the rolled spaghetti into her mouth while simultaneously kicking hard with her foot.
"A female ghost." The boy said seriously.
"Is that so?" Lin Xuanqi smiled, launching an attack with practiced and nimble movements. "Then you'd better enjoy it."
"That makes sense." The boy nodded and lowered his head to eat his laksa.
"Hey Cheng Fei, I have a question for you." The girl lightly tapped her cheek with her fingertip, as if she had suddenly thought of something.
"what?"
"Didn't you say you wanted to marry me?" Lin Xuanqi swirled her wine glass as she looked at him, as if asking a trivial question.
The boy paused, a look of feigned surprise on his face. "Did I say that?"
"You didn't say that, did you?" Lin Xuanqi narrowed her eyes and pressed harder with her foot.
The boy calmly took the mischievous chocolate ice cream and said gently, "Just kidding, why are you suddenly asking this?"
"What, can't I ask?" The girl raised her eyebrows, her face showing displeasure.
"Of course." The boy's expression hardened, then he adopted a tentative tone, "How about we get our marriage certificate tomorrow?"
"Lead you my foot! Are you old enough or am I old enough?" Lin Xuanqi rolled her eyes at him, annoyed.
"Does that mean I can receive it just because I'm old enough?" the boy asked in shock.
"What, you don't want to accept it?" The girl put down her cup, her expression turning unfriendly.
"I was afraid you wouldn't agree. After all, you know my circumstances. You are the eldest daughter of the Lin family. How could I be worthy of you?" The young man shook his head with a regretful expression.
690. Lin Xuanqi is getting engaged to Cheng Fei.
"Cheng Fei, I've noticed that when others offer you favors, you don't appreciate them, do you?" Lin Xuanqi said, both angry and amused.
“We poor people have dignity too. Don’t think that just because you have money you can bully us.” Cheng Fei said earnestly.
Lin Xuanqi stared at him for a second, then suddenly stood up, grabbed his collar across the table, and said with a half-smile, "Good dog, bark for your master."
"Xuanqi, don't you think it's incongruous for you to say such things while wearing a maid outfit?" The boy met her gaze, unmoved.
"Cheng Fei, you're not going to call me that now, are you?" The girl narrowed her eyes slightly, her tone carrying a strange undertone.
"Woof." The boy raised his paws in surrender without hesitation. "Satisfied?"
"Tsk, always shameless." Lin Xuanqi released him with a look of disdain, returned to her seat, and slowly ate her seafood with her eyes lowered. "I just wanted to tell you something today."
"What is it?" The boy seemed to sense something, put down his fork and looked at her.
"Cheng Fei, let's pick a time to get engaged, what do you say?" The girl with cascading black hair raised her head, lazily resting her chin on one hand, a curious smile curving her lips.
After the words were spoken, the two stared at each other, and the air on the table froze for half a second.
"Engaged? Is that even possible?" The boy asked in surprise, becoming cautious.
"You've never even heard of an engagement?" Lin Xuanqi was getting a little impatient.
"I've heard of it, but I never imagined we'd actually get engaged," the boy muttered.
"Cheng Fei, you're not willing, are you?" The girl's smile turned unfriendly in an instant.
"Don't mention it. Since we're engaged, it means we'll get married in the future. Xuanqi, you're not really that in love with me, are you?" the boy observed her.
"Cheng Fei, I'm talking to you seriously. Try giving me that frivolous look again!" Lin Xuanqi said sternly, slamming her hand on the table.
"I was wrong." The boy clasped his hands together in a second. "Then, if I may ask, when do you plan to get engaged? Tomorrow?"
"Ming my foot!" The girl glared at him, then picked up a piece of beef and thought seriously for a moment. "How about we wait until my birthday?"
"I think it's fine." The boy nodded quickly, then paused, "By the way, when is your birthday?"
"Cheng Fei, you didn't even know it was my birthday?" Lin Xuanqi stared at him, her smile turning terrifying.
"Don't get excited, it's just a joke, it's November 29th." The young man poured her a drink, and casually added, "The few days after we broke up last year, I sent you birthday wishes but you ignored me."
Lin Xuanqi's eyes flickered, then she looked at him again, a smile curving her lips. "You remember it quite clearly?"
"My greatest strength is my good memory," the young man said, taking a sip of wine and sighing.
"I think your greatest strength is your mouth," the girl said, rolling her eyes at him with annoyance.
"So you're really getting engaged?" the boy asked curiously. "What do we need to prepare in advance?"
"Nonsense, would I joke about something like this if it weren't real?" Lin Xuanqi glared at him, paused, and softened her tone, "It's too early to prepare now. Besides, we'll just take a few engagement photos beforehand as a memento, and have a ceremony to exchange rings. There's no need to be nervous."
"What do I have to be nervous about? It's just an engagement." The young man shrugged nonchalantly.
"So you're just getting engaged to me, huh?" The girl laughed instead of getting angry. "Cheng Fei, I'm warning you to straighten out your attitude."
"Am I not proper?" The boy looked bewildered and innocent.
"I don't think you've ever been a decent person." Lin Xuanqi pouted, then paused. "Cheng Fei, let me ask you something."
"what?"
"Do you love me?" The girl raised her chin, her brows furrowed as she stared at him.
"Of course I love you." The boy said matter-of-factly, looking directly into her eyes.
"If you love me, then behave yourself. We'll get married when you're old enough, so my mother won't nag me all the time. It's so annoying." Lin Xuanqi said with a displeased expression.
"So you don't actually love me, and the engagement was just Sister Lin's order?" Cheng Fei was shocked.
"Order me what? What nonsense are you thinking? Don't I love it when I sit here and eat with you?" Lin Xuanqi raised an eyebrow.
"It just feels a bit too sudden," the boy shook his head.
"Give it back to me suddenly, huh? If you're not going to marry me, who do you want to marry? Tell me!" Lin Xuanqi raised her voice.
"It was just a casual remark, but of course I want to get married to you." The young man paused, then lowered his head and stroked his chin thoughtfully.
The girl stared at him. "What are you thinking about now?"
The boy looked up abruptly, "Xuanqi, you didn't decide to marry me because you saw how well my product performed, did you? You're so materialistic!"
"Who was it that clung to me back then, saying they wanted to prove they were qualified to marry into the Lin family? Now you're calling me a snob?" Lin Xuanqi raised an eyebrow, then revealed a malicious smile. "Besides, this is a value investment for me. You're not willing?"
"So your claim of loving me is fake. You only love my algorithm. In the end, there's only self-interest between us, not love." The boy shook his head and sighed regretfully.
"Tsk, Cheng Fei, are you never going to stop being sarcastic?" Lin Xuanqi became annoyed, slammed her hand on the table, stood up, quickly walked to the boy, lifted the hem of her skirt and sat down facing him, raising her chin and staring at him closely.
"What does this mean?" The boy looked at her, puzzled.
"Look me in the eyes," the girl said sternly.
"What's wrong with your eyes? Do you feel uncomfortable and want me to blow on them for you?" the boy asked earnestly.
Lin Xuanqi couldn't help but laugh, but quickly tightened her face and put her hands on the boy's face. "Cheng Fei, I love you. I love you very much now. You have to love me well too. We'll be together forever from now on, do you hear me?"
The girl, whose arrogant and haughty demeanor lingered between her brows, frowned slightly, revealing an unprecedented vulnerability, as if she were worried about something.
The boy admired her flawless face with its rosy eyes and long eyelashes, and slowly leaned closer to whisper, "Xuanqi, you're just too cute."
The girl wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned in even faster than he did. A moment later, her eyes became moist and misty. She swallowed hard in his ear and whispered in a voice as soft as a mosquito's buzz, "Husband, kill me."
Then, from somewhere on the quiet dining table, came the sound of fabric tearing.
As time ticked by, the delicious food on the table grew cold, yet no one paid any attention to it.
Once everything had settled down, Cheng Fei took the items one by one to the microwave to heat up, placed them back in front of Lin Xuanqi, smacked his lips, and said, "I did such a good job, and now it's all ruined."
The haughty girl rolled her eyes at him, her gaze alluring, and silently lowered her head to finish her food.
After the two finished eating, Cheng Fei took the food to the kitchen to wash the dishes, as the dishwasher there hadn't been used in so long that they didn't even know when it had broken down.
"Xuanqi, come here for a moment," the boy called out.
Lin Xuanqi, who had gone to rest on the sofa, came over in response, "What?"
"Are you full?" The boy didn't even look at her.
"Almost, what's wrong?" the girl asked, puzzled.
"Let's eat some more." The boy wiped the plate with a rag.
Lin Xuanqi stared at the boy suspiciously. After a few seconds, she seemed to understand something, and her eyes became unfocused.
Then, the haughty girl in the maid outfit, her knees encased in thin black pantyhose, came into contact with the cold kitchen floor.
691. Shen Xi was in a bad mood.
On Friday nights in Academy City, the joyful noise echoes through the city's nightscape, like an endless background melody.
On the 36th floor of a high-end apartment building on Guang'an Street, Nagasaki Asuna, her long coffee-colored hair still damp with moisture, heated two cups of milk in the kitchen, added honey, stirred them, and brought them to the study door. She knocked on the door and then pushed it open.
Shen Xi sat at the table, her gaze shifting between the books and the computer screen in front of her, her brows slightly furrowed, as if she had encountered some kind of problem.
"Good evening, Inspector." The young girl on the tablet next to him was the first to notice the visitor and came closer to the screen to greet him.
"Good evening, Xiao Yi~" Nagasaki Asuna smiled and waved at the tablet, then sat down next to the desk and placed one of the cups of milk in front of Shen Xi.
The aloof girl seemed oblivious to her presence, focused on the task at hand.
Asuna Nagasaki rested her chin on her hands, her bright eyes glancing at what Shen Xi was studying. After observing for a moment, she casually asked, "Isn't designing robots Cheng Fei's task? Why are you working on this?"
"What's it to you?" Shen Xi asked coldly, not even looking at her.
"I'm a little curious, Ms. Shen, please don't be so fierce, okay?" Nagasaki Asuna leaned down, resting her head on her arm, her voice soft and sweet, as if she were being coquettish.
"You vixen, you disgust me." Shen Xi frowned and glared at her with a chilling look.
"You seem to be in a bad mood today. What happened?" Nagasaki Asuna tilted her head and looked into the other person's pure, dark eyes.
"Seeing you really affects my mood." Shen Xi looked at the design software on the screen again, flipping through the models to check them.
"That's true, but you're not usually this bad when you see me?" Nagasaki Asuna blinked, her bright eyes clearly reflecting her beautiful yet cold face.
"Can't you see I'm busy, you vixen? Get rid of this trouble." Shen Xi's face showed displeasure.
"So what's going on? Why are you suddenly researching this?" Nagasaki Asuna glanced at the screen, picked up her milk, and took a sip.
Shen Xi took a deep breath, her tone revealing neither joy nor anger, "I just felt that with that lousy person's brains, he probably wouldn't be able to finish this project in his entire life, so I just happened to be bored and decided to solve it."
"Huh?" Nagasaki Asuna tapped her chin lightly with her fingertip, gazing at her thoughtfully for a moment. "Could it be related to Hayashi-san?"
"What illogical reasoning." Shen Xi narrowed her eyes.
"Cheng Fei, you promised yourself that you would break up with Lin after you finished the prototype, right?"
"That jerk really tells you everything," Shen Xi sneered.
"Every time I got tired, he would hug me and talk about all sorts of things?" Nagasaki Asuna looked on with a nostalgic expression, and a sweet smile involuntarily appeared on her lips.
"You vixen, don't push me." Shen Xi shivered, her eyes lost their luster and became empty, her tone suddenly turning icy.
"I was wrong, I was wrong, forget I said anything." Nagasaki Asuna grinned mischievously, clasping her hands together, then paused. "You said you could have the prototype ready within six months, don't you want to wait?"
"Six months?" Shen Xi sneered as she stared at the screen. "Let me tell you something: six months from now, that scoundrel is getting engaged to someone surnamed Lin. I hope you don't do anything rash and jump off the balcony."
"Engaged?" Nagasaki Asuna was stunned, her brows furrowing slightly. "Cheng Fei told you?"
"Heh, do you think he'd honestly confess to something like this?" Shen Xi gritted her teeth.
"So it was Lin who said it? She's really wicked. But it happened today? I think Cheng Fei just didn't have a chance to say it." Nagasaki Asuna thought for a moment.
"Let's hope so. We'll see if he tells you when he gets back." Shen Xi sneered, remaining noncommittal.
