Before her stood Weinuo, her expression stiff and her eyes flashing wildly at her, and the soldiers following behind.

The two soldiers first saw the blonde girl running to greet them while shouting strange words, but they didn't pay much attention. Then they looked up and surveyed the entire dock.

Then, their gazes fell on the teardrop-shaped floating ship docked in the center of the dock.

The two were initially attracted by the strange shape of the airship, since ships without sails are rare in this world.

It wasn't until they looked at it a second time that they realized something was wrong. Recalling the diagram they had seen before, their expressions changed. "Wait... this looks like the ship!"

"Stay still, put your hands up!"

The two men picked up their light magic particle rifles, one aiming at the ship to guard against any potential enemies, and the other at the unarmed blonde girl in front of them.

Miriam was startled and quickly raised her hands above her head, her eyes constantly glancing towards the ship.

She didn't take the weapon down at all; the walkie-talkie was still up there.

"Please don't shoot! I...I...I..." Miriam cried, her tongue stammering.

"It really is this ship, what should we do?" A soldier, still holding his gun, cast a hesitant glance at his comrade.

"The officer told us to go back immediately if we found anything unusual, and not to worry about anything else," another soldier whispered.

"Alright, let's hurry, it's not safe here."

"Okay, let's go."

The two did not regard the blonde girl in front of them as a threat at all. After finishing their discussion, they slowly retreated, afraid of disturbing any enemies that might be on the ship.

Suddenly, a loud explosion came from behind them, followed by a dazzling green light that flashed by.

While Miriam was still stunned with her hands raised, the two soldiers fell straight down, hitting the ground with two thuds, leaving two large, charred, smoking holes in their backs.

Vino stretched out his arms and gripped a strangely shaped light magic particle pistol tightly. He maintained a tense posture, aiming with one eye open. He stared at the corpse on the ground in silence for a moment, then patted his flat chest and breathed a sigh of relief.

Miriam looked at the corpses on the ground with suspicion, then at her, and hesitated for a moment. "Miss Vino, won't you be investigated for killing them?"

The baby-faced girl tilted her head and blinked, then suddenly dropped the pistol, her eyes widening as she grabbed her hair. "What if the lord's mansion sends people to investigate?"

"Miss Vino, don't worry, I'll go get help right away!" Miriam said, then ran onto the ship as fast as she could to get the walkie-talkie, tuned the channel, and pressed the talk button. "Miss Nagasaki, junior, someone came to search the dock and we killed them. What do we do now?"

There was no response after he finished speaking.

“Miss Nagasaki! Junior! Can you hear me?” the girl repeated.

However, apart from the unsettling buzzing sound, there was nothing on the other end of the walkie-talkie...

On the road leading to the lower city, soldiers carrying magic lamps set up temporary checkpoints, searching and checking every civilian passing by. The stranded crowds blocked the road completely.

In a makeshift house on the street corner, Edward stared at the complex map of the lower town, listening to the messenger beside him.

"Missing? I need details." Edward frowned.

"The team that went to search the dock on your orders has all returned, except for one place," the messenger said immediately.

"Which place?" Edward's eyes narrowed.

……

Outside Rift Valley City.

The bright white flares illuminated the earth.

The small sailboat that had made an emergency landing burst into flames, billowing thick, acrid smoke.

On the nearby open ground, the ground looked as if it had been plowed, with undulating potholes and cracked rocks everywhere.

The demon-slaying knights carrying their familiars were panting heavily, sweat pouring down their faces inside their armor. Their bodies were as taut as stones, and their eyes were filled with intense fear and apprehension.

Surrounded by them were elves covered in blood. Of the original six, three were still standing, one of them clutching his abdomen, blood gushing out and staining his fingers red.

Of course, things weren't much better on their side either; in fact, they lost even more men.

Despite being outnumbered, the elves were able to fight back desperately; they were truly terrifying...

"How are you?" Eve asked, drawing her sword defensively while glancing at her companion behind her.

The elf, clutching her lower abdomen, swallowed hard, shook her head with difficulty, and said in a weak voice as if she were about to lose the strength to speak, "Your Highness, Captain, you must run away..."

“There’s nowhere to run.” Leia’s hand holding the sword trembled slightly, her face was covered with blood from different sources, and her expression was neither tired nor gloomy.

Eve looked at her three companions who were already lying on the ground, her eyes bloodshot, and she gripped her longsword tightly.

"I'll buy you some time, run!..." The wounded elf used his last bit of strength to chant the spell, the blade of his longsword becoming dazzling, and he charged into the enemy ranks.

"Sila, no—!" Eve's pupils contracted, and she only had time to shout the other's name.

The Empire's demon-slaying knights immediately dispatched several to meet the charging elf, attacking from both sides in a well-trained formation. One knight used his shield to block her fatal blow, while another pierced her heart from behind with a sword.

703. The three who arrived late

Surrounded by demon-slaying knights, scalding liquid gushed from the elf's chest, splashing down in the cool night wind.

The sound of a weapon piercing through a body and then being pulled out was clearly audible.

The elf collapsed helplessly, his weapon crashing to the ground, the magic enveloping it dissipating and returning it to its dull, runic form.

The battlefield, hidden under the cover of night, was deathly silent except for the whistling wind.

Leia stared wide-eyed at the scene, her gaze trembling, her palms clenching and unclenching. "It's all my fault."

“Your Highness…” Eve gritted her teeth and stood back to back with her, wary of the leisurely demon knights around them.

Why would a large-scale Imperial fleet appear in Riften, a neutral city far from the Empire? Deep questions lingered in her mind, but it seemed she would never find the answers...

"Your Highness, do you remember that trial at the ruins before?" Eve thought for a moment.

"I remember." Leia was momentarily dazed.

“Shall we fight our way out together, just like we did back then?” Eve whispered.

Leia paused, remained silent for a moment, then took a deep breath. "Okay."

Under the watchful eyes of numerous demon-slaying knights, the two elves glanced at each other out of the corner of their eyes and gripped their weapons tightly.

At that moment, without warning, a torrent of crimson light as thick as a washbasin descended from the sky, sweeping rapidly across the Demon Knights' position, instantly melting and evaporating everything it touched, leaving a winding, red-hot trail on the ground.

Everyone frantically looked up, searching the night sky for the source of the attack.

"Enemy attack!"

"On the starboard side!"

On the warship suspended in mid-air, the lookout shouted out directions.

Under the cover of night, even with flares, it was difficult to see things in the distance. Against the backdrop of sparse clouds illuminated by moonlight, the night sky seemed to be empty.

The crimson light stream reappeared, instantly traversing a vast distance and striking the center of the Demon Knights' position.

A demon knight raised his enchanted greatsword to block, but the greatsword was instantly melted through by the light. The demon knight dropped the greatsword in horror and fell to the ground. His armor grazed the light and immediately turned red-hot. The high temperature scorched his body and made a sound that made his scalp tingle, causing the demon knight to roll and scream in agony.

Leia and Eve, who were prepared for one last gamble, stared blankly at the scene.

“It’s them.” Leia suddenly realized something.

Meanwhile, in the sky, where no one could see clearly, a small flapping-wing aircraft was scrambling toward the battlefield illuminated by flares, following a shaky trajectory.

"Trash, drive more steadily!"

"Teacher Shen, this thing is really hard to pedal!"

"You always brag about your physical abilities, but in the end you can't even do this simple thing right!"

"The design is so anti-human, even those with good physical abilities can't help it!"

"Shut up, you useless Cheng Feiyu!"

Such a conversation echoed in the night sky.

Three people were crammed together on the small flapping-wing aircraft.

Cheng Fei sat at the very front, pedaling the chainring like a bicycle. The belts, through a strange transmission mechanism, caused the wings on both sides of the aircraft to flap, propelling the aircraft forward.

Shen Xi sat in the middle, gripping his staff tightly as he blasted the ground from the side. Due to the constant shaking of the aircraft, it was difficult to aim, and his brows furrowed.

Ye Shuang sat at the back and put her arm around Shen Xi's waist to prevent her from accidentally falling off when she leaned out to fire.

"Will we be shot down?" the girl with pigtails asked worriedly.

"Don't worry, Master Ye. With the level of observation in this world, only a person condemned by heaven would be caught in such a dark and small situation..." Cheng Fei worked hard on the crank and gripped the rudder to control the course.

"Don't jinx it!" Shen Xi interrupted him without any politeness.

"Teacher Shen, when did I become a jinx?"

"You're such a jinx! Last time you said the cruise ship would hit an iceberg, and it actually did." The girl with pigtails behind her said in a tone of deep agreement.

"Master Ye! You've abandoned all principles just to speak up for her?"

"All I know is that you, this scumbag, deserve to be cursed!"

During the ambiguous dialogue, the ornithopter slowly arrived at the battlefield, gradually descending in altitude. Perhaps out of concern for friendly fire, the Imperial warships in mid-air did not fire.

"Teacher Shen, why do I feel a burning sensation under my butt?"

"The Light Magic Crystal is generating heat, didn't you even realize that?"

"So, why didn't it explode without cooling water?"

"With this surface area, heat dissipation from the air is sufficient. Can't Cheng Feiyu even understand this?"

"I see."

These words reached the ears of everyone on the ground.

Under the silent gaze of all the Demon Knights and the two remaining elves, the flapping-wing aircraft officially landed on the ground.

The three people squeezed into their seats left the aircraft and came to stand next to Leia and Eve, who were covered in blood and looked disheveled.

Cheng Fei looked the two men over, then saw the gruesome corpse on the ground, and clicked his tongue. "It seems we're a little late."

Shen Xi and Ye Shuang watched this scene silently.

"Who goes there?!"

The Demon Knights kept a close watch on the strange trio with extremely wary eyes. The terrifyingly powerful attacks they had just witnessed made them hesitant to attack blindly, even though they knew the three were enemies.

Cheng Fei ignored her, glanced at Ye Shuang's short-barreled submachine gun, and pretended to take out a three-pointed dagger from his body and hand it to her, "Master Ye, you can borrow this. Be careful, it's easy to get splattered when you stab someone."

Ye Shuang glanced at the strange-looking weapon and obediently nodded to accept it.

Cheng Fei then drew his black longsword, the Hyperdimensional Separator.

The Demon Knights adjusted their formation, deciding to treat the three as elves, even though none of them had pointed ears.

The next second, the Demon Knights, who were still moving slowly, were all frozen in a slow-motion state.

Cheng Fei disappeared from the spot.

……

Miriam opened the dock gates and threw the two bodies overboard.

Looking down into the abyss, she shuddered and quickly stepped back to pull the lever to close the gate.

Then the girl fetched two more buckets of water and poured them on the ground to carefully wash away the remaining bloodstains.

After finishing these tasks, Miriam wiped her sweat and breathed a sigh of relief.

"I can't get in touch with Miss Nagasaki or my junior. God help me that no one else comes tonight." The girl devoutly drew a cross on her body.

After praying, she returned to the ship, put on her heavy bomb suit, and also took all the equipment such as the turtle shell-shaped shield generator. Then she picked up her plasma bomb gun. The ample defense and firepower reassured her somewhat.

The girl arrived at a position where she could simultaneously monitor both entrances and exits of the dock, using the boxes piled there as cover, and began to stand guard alone.

Not long after, hurried footsteps could be heard outside.

Miriam quickly raised her gun and aimed it at the passage.
