86. The Lin Family Culture
The fifth layer is the frozen sea.
The boy and girl dived into the foundry once again through the underwater entrance.
Looking at the dark, automated factory filled with metal and silicon crystals, Cheng Fei opened his mouth, "Xuanqi, I think it would be better to call your Demon King Army over. This place is a bit too advanced for the two of us."
"Don't you like me? I need you and I need to rely on you? Your chance to show off has come." Lin Xuanqi crossed her arms in front of her chest and revealed a malicious smile.
Cheng Fei's expression hardened, and he took the girl's small hand, "You're right, I'll lead you through this place."
Lin Xuanqi glanced at the boy holding her hand, "Let go."
"Xuanqi, have you ever flown a kite? Remember, if you encounter danger, don't get too close to me, but don't stray too far either, just like you are my kite."
"I told you to let go."
"Xuanqi, don't you think this place is a bit too realistic? Some people say that the corridor is a real world. What do you think?"
"I think you want to die, don't you?" Lin Xuanqi pinched the boy's waist hard.
Cheng Fei's lips twitched as he released the girl's small hand, and he said calmly, "Xuanqi, how is your mother, Madam Lin, doing lately?"
"Why are you asking this?" Lin Xuanqi frowned.
"I just wanted to ask when you can take me to meet her."
"Ha, you think you're qualified to see my mother?"
"I think she'll like me," Cheng Fei said seriously.
"Should I praise your confidence? There are plenty of women in the entire South Bay who are more attractive than you and want to pursue me. Why would she like you?"
"Xuanqi, do you know what makes me better than those people?"
"I'd like to hear what's so good about it?" Lin Xuanqi said with a cold smile, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye.
"Fortunately, I am better than any of them, but I have no resources at all."
"What kind of advantage is that?" the girl raised an eyebrow.
"As far as I know, the Lin family now only has Mrs. Lin and you, Xuanqi. If you marry someone who is equally rich and powerful, wouldn't that be like giving away such a large family business as the Lin Bank for nothing? What a pity."
"You've investigated quite thoroughly, go on," Lin Xuanqi said, staring at him with a half-smile.
“It would be different if it were me. To your mother, I would be both an excellent son-in-law and an obedient one. Actually, I don’t have much ambition. My original ideal was to find a good job and live a carefree life. Once I joined the Lin family, I would definitely enjoy myself to the point of forgetting everything else, and then have three children with excellent genes with you. Wouldn’t that be perfect? As for why three, it’s because two is too few, and four would be too much work for you.” Cheng Fei analyzed with a serious expression.
"You've even thought about how many children you want to have. You really know how to think things through, Cheng Fei." Lin Xuanqi's smile revealed no emotion.
"I've always been a thoughtful person."
"Unfortunately, you've got one thing wrong." Lin Xuanqi sneered sarcastically.
"what's up?"
"You think my mother and I are just pretty faces? Do you think the Lin family business we have today came about by the hard work of my mother and me? We are still ourselves without the Lin family business, and the Lin family business is nothing without us. I believe that every one of the tens of thousands of people in the Lin family business understands this. No matter who comes, they can't take the Lin family business away." The girl raised her chin.
"As for you, even if I take a step back and say that you really join the Lin family, you'd better give up your idea of just loafing around and working hard for the rest of your life, otherwise... Hmph, the Lin family has never had any useless people, only dead ones."
Cheng Fei wiped his forehead. "I didn't expect the Lin family's culture to be so inspiring. But it's okay, I'm very adaptable. Look at me now, I'm working really hard to find a good job in the future. Once I join the Lin family, I'll work even harder and make the Lin family beat Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs in the future."
Lin Xuanqi smiled dismissively, "Save those words for when you can actually do them."
Cheng Fei followed the girl's steps, "Let's talk about something else. By the way, Xuanqi, are you free this week?"
"What are you planning to do now?" the girl asked, narrowing her eyes.
"The cultural festival is next week, and the Corridor Research Club is going on a training camp this weekend."
"A training camp?" Lin Xuanqi frowned.
"Actually, it's just a two-day training camp at a seaside villa. I thought Ye Shuang had told you that."
"I'm busy," the girl said without hesitation.
"But I'm worried if you don't go."
What are you worried about?
"Think about it, the Corridor Research Department is all girls, and I'm the only boy. I don't think that's a good thing."
"What's wrong with that? If you dare to do anything unnecessary, Ye Shuang can just throw you into the sea." Lin Xuanqi rolled her eyes.
“That seems to make sense.” Cheng Fei rubbed his chin. “But Xuanqi, Shen Xi is going too. Don’t you want to seize the opportunity to annoy her?”
The girl glared at him. "Are you teaching me how to do things?"
"No, no," Cheng Fei quickly shook his head. "But you really aren't going? Just consider it a vacation after a business trip. Besides, I want to see you more often. Even if we've broken up, we can still be friends, right?"
"Ugh, so annoying." Lin Xuanqi glared at him. "I'll try to practice on the last day."
"Oh, you really want to go?"
"What do you mean, Cheng Fei?" The girl raised an eyebrow.
"I'm so surprised, Xuanqi, I love you."
"release."
"Xuanqi, wasn't it quite comfortable holding hands when we were in the haunted house?"
"I told you to let go."
"I know, I know."
……
The two walked deeper into the foundry, a nest that incubated runaway machinery, which was surprisingly safe; there wasn't a single guard in sight throughout the entire factory.
However, neither of them dared to touch the production facilities rashly, for who knows if they would be surrounded by a swarm of enemies.
"By the way, Xuanqi, are you still planning to perform at the cultural festival?" Cheng Fei asked casually while observing the out-of-control machinery on the assembly line, whose shape was gradually becoming clearer.
"What do you want to know now?" Lin Xuanqi looked him up and down.
"I'm not asking about anything, I'm just worried about your safety, Xuanqi. I regretted asking you to go to the amusement park last time. What if something happens again at this cultural festival? I don't want to see you get hurt."
"Ha, didn't you say that with you around, that kind of thing would never happen?"
"That's true, but that's for the future. Right now, my strength isn't enough to protect you."
"You do have a good sense of self-awareness."
"Of course, I've always been self-aware, so I'm very clear that I can do it in the future."
"I'll decide what happens at the cultural festival myself. Mind your own business," Lin Xuanqi said coldly.
"Xuanqi, honestly, do you still suspect that I'm going to harm you?"
The girl looked at him expressionlessly.
Suddenly, the boy lunged at the girl without warning.
Lin Xuan looked surprised as she watched herself being tackled to the ground.
A beam of scorching, dazzling purplish-red light, as thick as a washbasin, flashed past where the two were standing.
"Xuanqi, be careful!"
Cheng Fei nimbly climbed off the girl, uttered a few words, drew his black longsword, and charged out.
Lin Xuanqi realized something and turned her head, only to see the boy colliding with a short figure shrouded in a black trench coat.
……
87. One of the unusual phenomena
The person Cheng Fei was fighting was a young girl, or more accurately, a petite and inexperienced girl.
Beneath the billowing trench coat, a childlike face peeked out, her white hair cascading down like a waterfall, gleaming with an unusual light. She wore a black sailor uniform, her young legs encased in black tights, and black loafers, looking as adorable as if she had stepped out of a Japanese anime.
The girl had no expression on her face and held a peculiar straight-handled black umbrella as a weapon.
Cheng Fei and she were locked in combat, but the sharp blades could not harm the black umbrella in the slightest; the thin umbrella fabric was surprisingly resilient.
"who?"
Cheng Fei's question seemed to sink without a trace.
The black-umbrella girl's combat power was in no way inferior to Cheng Fei's. The two fought fiercely from the very beginning. The sound of weapons clashing was deafening, and terrifying purple-red beams of light shot out from the tip of the black umbrella from time to time, turning the solid floor and the suspended track into a red-hot liquid wherever they went.
Lin Xuanqi picked up her sniper rifle, wanting to join the battle, but the two were locked in a fierce, high-speed struggle, making it impossible for her to aim.
The two jumped from the wide road onto a moving, unmanned truck, then chased each other along the narrow sky corridor, landing on the rooftops of low-rise buildings. Any flat surface with an inclination of less than ninety degrees became their battlefield.
Lin Xuanqi stared at the two figures intersecting beneath the crosshairs. She had initially planned to fire randomly, but then she changed her mind and released her finger from the trigger, continuing to track and wait for the right moment.
Until a certain moment, Cheng Fei subdued the girl under the black umbrella, and a sharp dagger suddenly slid into his palm and slashed at her neck.
The girl with the black umbrella leaned back, barely avoiding the attack, and used the black umbrella that was blocking the longsword to propel herself backward.
The moment Lin Xuanqi caught the girl under the black umbrella, her body dangling in mid-air, she fired her gun; the long sniper rifle roared and spewed flames.
To Lin Xuanqi, the girl under the black umbrella was no different from a stationary target, with the bullet trajectory covering her head and torso.
Lin Xuanqi seemed to see herself shattered into pieces.
In a flash, the black umbrella in the girl's hand opened with a bang, and the next second, she and the umbrella vanished into thin air.
Lin Xuanqi's bullet missed its mark, striking the metal railing and sparking a few times.
After the girl with the black umbrella disappeared, she showed no sign of reappearing, just as a soaring melody abruptly ended, leaving an eerily quiet atmosphere.
It seems she really left, leaving behind only the two of them and a scene of chaos.
"Damn, they got away?" Cheng Fei was surprised and waited cautiously for a while, but the enemy did not reappear.
Lin Xuanqi put down her sniper rifle, her brows furrowed. "Who is she?"
"do not know."
"You still claim to have extensive connections in the corridor?"
"I can't possibly know all the experts, and what if she's not human?" Cheng Fei shrugged.
"Who are you trying to scare?" the girl said, crossing her arms and glaring at him.
"Just kidding, don't take it to heart." Cheng Fei looked around. "It's not too late to get revenge later. Besides, Xuanqi, did you hear any strange noises?"
"What was that noise?" Lin Xuanqi asked suspiciously.
"Over there, they're here."
Following the direction Cheng Fei pointed, dense red dots emerged from the darkness, gradually approaching.
Out-of-control machines, half the height of a person and resembling spiders, appeared from nowhere and surrounded the two in swarms, their mechanical legs pounding the ground.
Lin Xuanqi's eyes narrowed, and she gripped the sniper rifle tightly.
"Let's go, Xuanqi!" Cheng Fei grabbed her and ran.
"What are you afraid of?" Lin Xuanqi asked, somewhat annoyed.
"It's not fear, it's called a tactical retreat. Next time we'll bring men and take this place out," Cheng Fei hurriedly explained.
Although Lin Xuanqi had an urge to kick him, the girl knew that the two of them couldn't win if they stayed and fought, so she let him drag her away.
The two retraced their steps, encountering mechanical spiders crawling out of the enclosed buildings along the way. However, these spiders seemed to be poor fighters and posed no real threat to them.
Only after emerging from the frozen sea through the ice hole and returning to the snow-covered shore did Cheng Fei let out an exaggerated sigh of relief, "That was close, we almost suffered heavy losses."
Lin Xuanqi snapped out of her daze and pinched his waist. "So you're just afraid of dying."
"Of course I'm scared. My equipment is very valuable. My family and business are small, so please be understanding, Xuanqi." Cheng Fei looked like a miser, grabbing his wet clothes and wringing out the water.
Lin Xuanqi was so angry that her eyelids twitched. She took a deep breath and said, "If you do this again, you'll be feeding the fish!"
