No response.
Eileen led Cheng Fei and the other two forward and saw an old man with gray hair fast asleep behind the bar. He was also a witch.
"Oh no, he must have been drinking yesterday. We can't wake him up. Let's wait and see." Lily said, as if it were nothing out of the ordinary, as she hopped onto the bar stool in front of the bar and sat down.
"If I remember correctly, the doctrine forbids witches from drinking alcohol, right?" Cheng Fei recalled what he had read in the newspaper.
“As long as we don’t get caught, it’s fine. The cult usually doesn’t check places like this, and besides, this is a restaurant, not a tavern.” Lily shrugged.
The boy could only nod to indicate that he understood.
Meanwhile, on the other side...
The first rays of dawn shone on the high walls of the building, only to be swallowed up by the intricate reliefs.
Soldiers in uniform stood in neat rows to the sound of sharp whistles, the bayonets on their rudimentary rifles pointing towards the sky, reflecting a cold light.
The girl's chestnut hair was neatly tied into a bun. She wore a heavy black coat with the front open, and the double rows of brass buttons on her dark red vest gleamed. The exquisite insignia on her chest and epaulets were eye-catching.
She scanned everyone from directly in front of her, her gaze carrying a commanding presence beyond her years.
"Sir Isabella, both squads are assembled and ready to be deployed at any time!" The officer jogged up to the girl and saluted respectfully.
"Let's go. This time, we must find all the heretics." Isabella, gun in hand, mounted her horse, lifted the reins, and gazed ahead with a look that seemed to pierce through the high walls.
A young man dressed similarly and wearing glasses mounted his horse with somewhat clumsy movements, following closely behind all the soldiers in formation. The dense sound of hooves and footsteps broke the last tranquility of the street.
1070. Three people who adapted to local customs
As a result, by the time the restaurant was filled with witches who came to have breakfast, the drunken old man slumped behind the bar had not woken up.
“You must be hungry too.” Lily carried several plates from the kitchen and placed them in front of Cheng Fei and the other two. She scratched her head and stared at them. “Uh, or are you saying you don’t need to eat?”
"I want to eat." The boy nodded reluctantly, glancing at the food on the plate: a piece of grayish-brown bread and some kind of mysterious stew.
He picked up the bread and took a bite, finding it dry and hard, with an unpredictable taste. He looked at Shen Xi and Nagasaki Asuna, who both looked troubled.
"Eat up, don't be shy, you don't need to pay." Lily waved her hand generously and started tearing into her bread.
Eileen, sitting quietly to the side, also silently finished her food.
In this atmosphere, muffled groans came from behind the bar, and the drunken old man slowly raised his head.
"Karl! You're awake?" Lily leaned over the bar to look at him.
"Hmm... Lily." The old man, still half-asleep, looked around until he spotted Cheng Fei and Nagasaki Asuna. He suddenly snapped awake. "Where did these Tower people come from?!"
"Shh! Carl, don't get excited, listen to me." Lily quickly ran behind the bar and whispered in the old man's ear.
Under the watchful eyes of Cheng Fei and the other two, they quickly completed their exchange.
“The Empress…” The old man named Karl frowned and pondered.
“The Protoss Queen,” Cheng Fei added at the opportune moment, “and by the way, what does ‘Tower People’ mean?”
"Let's leave that aside for now." Lily waved her hand, then turned to Karl, "So, have you figured it out yet?"
“I remember now.” The old man nodded, swallowed, and slowly began to speak. “When the Order was first established, the Tower people were ruled by an empress. Legend has it that the empress was beautiful and charming, with large breasts and a pert bottom, but unfortunately, she was eventually ordered by the Pope to be hanged on the gallows.”
Cheng Fei was initially focused, but lost interest halfway through and shook his head, saying, "That's impossible."
Shen Xi's eyes narrowed slightly, her face turned extremely displeased, and she stared at him with trembling eyes.
"Uneven eyes are cute." The boy met her gaze and awkwardly tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“What are you talking about? Something related to idols.” Lily grabbed Karl’s arm and shook it.
"I don't know, I've never heard of any Celestials or Empress." The old man waved his hand vigorously.
Cheng Fei turned his inquiring gaze to Nagasaki Asuna, receiving a slight nod in response.
"Teacher Shen, tell me the truth, is this really your home planet, or are you playing us?" The boy turned his head and said seriously.
"Shut up, it's obvious their historical lineage has been interrupted." Shen Xi kicked him without any politeness.
"She said your historical lineage has been interrupted, and you'd better check ancient books or something." The boy turned around and pointed at the cool-looking girl's head.
"Go away, go away, I don't welcome people from the Tower here, get out of here." The old man waved his hand impatiently.
"So what exactly are the Tower People? Ordinary people? Pure People?" the boy asked curiously.
No one answered.
"Since you summoned us, you should at least tell us what you need us to do, right?" He had no choice but to look at Eileen.
The silver-haired girl, who had been watching the whole thing, frowned and met his gaze. She seemed thoughtful, took a deep breath, and said, "You guys come with me first."
As soon as she finished speaking, she walked out of the restaurant first.
"Hey, Eileen!" Lily quickly caught up.
Seeing this, Cheng Fei turned his head and spread his hands, "Teacher Shen, Nana, shall we go?"
Just as the five were about to step out the door, an unexpected event occurred.
First came shouts and screams of unknown origin, growing louder as they approached, followed by unsettling, muffled footsteps and the sound of horses' hooves, giving one the illusion that the ground was trembling slightly.
Led by the cavalry at the front, the cult soldiers, marching in perfect unison, emerged from the street corner and advanced toward the end of the street where the restaurant was located.
"Heretical search! Everyone, put your hands on your heads!"
The shamans along the way were terrified and hid in the narrow alleyways around them. Those who lagged behind were immediately pinned to the ground and had their hands tied behind their backs.
Eileen and Lily, who were standing at the gate watching this scene, had changing expressions.
"What should we do?" Lily was stunned.
"Run from behind!" Eileen thought for only a moment.
The two nimbly weaved through the bustling crowd in the restaurant and headed towards the kitchen.
"Karl, there are members of the cult, run!" Lily shouted to the old man who was sleeping behind the bar again.
"What about us?" Shen Xi stood there, observing everything with a cold expression, and looked at Cheng Fei.
The boy stroked his chin, pondered for a moment, and said, "Should we do as the Romans do and run away too?"
Although the situation is unclear, it would be very troublesome if we were treated as heretics, and those two witch girls are important clues that we cannot abandon.
Thinking this, the boy took a few steps back and followed Eileen and Lily's escape route.
Shen Xi followed closely behind, jogging along.
Nagasaki Asuna blinked at the approaching cult group before turning around and following them a moment later.
Isabella was the first to arrive at the restaurant entrance. She dismounted nimbly and walked into the restaurant against the flow of fleeing sorcerers. Standing in the open space, she twitched her nostrils and caught a lingering smell of cheap alcohol in the air.
"Sir, what have you found?" A young man wearing glasses followed closely behind.
“Those guys at the door just now, there’s definitely something wrong with them.” Isabella frowned as she looked around the room.
Even though it was just a fleeting glimpse from her horseback riding, she still keenly sensed the suspicious aura of the group.
A hunched figure suddenly flashed behind the bar, causing the curtain leading to the kitchen to sway slightly.
"Over there." Isabella's eyes narrowed, and she immediately rushed over.
After passing through the messy kitchen with pots and pans, a narrow alleyway piled with miscellaneous items appeared in front of the two.
The white-haired shaman ran forward without looking back, but tripped over something and fell hard to the ground with a scream.
Isabella caught up, grabbed the man's arm, turned him over for a quick look, and seeing that he was an old man, handed him to the young man and ran ahead, saying, "You deal with him first, I'll continue chasing after him."
"Be careful, Sir!" the young man shouted, grabbing the old man's arm. He watched the old man's figure disappear into the distance and muttered to himself, "Although it seems like there's nothing to be careful about."
As she ran, Isabella pulled a pendant from her collar; it was a small, exquisite metal bottle. The girl unscrewed the cap.
A silver liquid with a metallic sheen rippled silently within it.
She glanced at it only once, then put the bottle to her lips, took a small sip, and quickly put it away.
After drinking the silver liquid, she only ran a few steps, and the faint silver lines in the girl's pupils began to brighten and grow.
Upon closer inspection, one will find that, compared to the diffused patterns that appear to ordinary shamans with a certain strange regularity, the patterns in the girl's eyes are distorted and chaotic.
The same pattern was also appearing in places hidden by her sleeves and gloves.
Isabella took a deep breath, and her running speed suddenly became terrifying, leaving a blurry afterimage deep in the alley.
the other side.
Cheng Fei caught up with Eileen and Lily, who had fled into the depths of the alley, without much effort.
The silver-haired girl's neat ponytail and her companion's red scarf bounced behind her as she ran.
Hearing the approaching footsteps, Eileen was the first to turn around and stop.
"It should be safe now, right?" The boy looked around, wiped his forehead in an exaggerated manner, breathed a sigh of relief, and walked towards the two.
"Don't come any closer!" Eileen suddenly spoke, gripping Lily's hand tightly, her face showing wariness.
Cheng Fei stared at her for a second, remaining expressionless, "Uh, you don't actually think we brought the cult here, do you?"
"Otherwise, what other reason could there be?" The silver-haired girl frowned.
"So it was you?!" Lily exclaimed belatedly, taking a half-step back.
Shen Xi and Nagasaki Asuna caught up a beat later, noticing the strange atmosphere.
"Um, did you have a fight?" Nagasaki Asuna asked, tilting her head and looking at the three of them with her hands behind her back.
"There is no such thing as an empress in the world. It's all a trick by you spies!" Eileen's sharp gaze pierced the three of them.
"Teacher Shen, it's over, we can't clear our names now." Cheng Fei slapped his forehead.
Shen Xi frowned slightly and opened her mouth.
At that moment, a figure dressed in the cult's uniform swiftly leaped over the wall and knelt down behind the three.
Isabella slowly rose to her feet, her young yet commanding gaze sweeping over everyone present.
"Is it you?" She noticed the three people who were closer first, and was surprised.
"Good morning, Sir." Cheng Fei bowed discreetly, noticing a visibly unusual appearance on the other man. "By the way, what happened to your eyes?"
The bright silver patterns clearly visible in his pupils made him seem more like a shaman than a shaman himself.
"Nothing, why are you here?" Isabella asked suspiciously.
"We were originally going to experience the local customs and culture, but then we saw everyone starting to run, so we followed suit," the boy said quickly, then shut his mouth without a hint of guilt.
Shen Xi and Nagasaki Asuna glanced at him but didn't say anything.
Isabella paused for a second, then squinted at the two people further away.
Then, his expression slowly changed. At first, he seemed to hesitate for no reason, but suddenly his eyes trembled, as if he had sensed something, and his face showed a complex mix of emotions.
Across from her, Lily stared at the heavy, exquisite uniform, her eyes filled with visible fear. She swallowed hard, like a small animal in the forest encountering a ferocious predator.
"Eileen, it's a Knight of the Round Table! Run!" The short girl's voice trembled as she pulled her companion back, but when the companion didn't move, she anxiously whispered, "Eileen! What's wrong?"
The silver-haired girl stood still, staring at the knight girl across the alley. Her pure and determined gaze shifted slightly, and an indescribable emotion flashed across her delicate face with a few freckles. Her fingers, hidden in her work clothes, clenched tightly.
"Hey, did they know each other before?" Nagasaki Asuna looked left and right, her bright eyes clearly reflecting the faces of the two people, realizing something.
"Really? Does this fit our worldview?" Cheng Fei asked doubtfully, then lowered his voice, "Professor Shen, what do you think about the Knights of the Round Table being friends with the problematic sorcerer?"
"Shut up." Shen Xi glared at him and continued to observe the situation.
The unusually quiet atmosphere did not last long.
Eileen pulled Lily's hand and began to back away, her wary gaze fixed on the Knights of the Round Table at the other end of the alley.
Isabella simply stared at him, standing motionless.
Realizing this, the two witch girls, who were holding hands, turned and ran away.
Just before disappearing around the corner of the alley, Eileen looked back one last time, her gaze meeting Isabella's.
"Jazz!" came a panting voice.
The young man, who arrived late, ran out of the alley ahead and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the familiar figure.
