The alertness of this moment is "observation". And knowing that you are wandering in the world is "awareness".

Ever since Shengsheng had attained the state of awareness and observation, she would have her own warning bells during her practice and would not be disturbed by external demons. Of course, it was not absolute.

It’s like the same need to get up early, other monks rely on self-discipline, while Shengsheng has an alarm clock.

If you are too sleepy, even an alarm clock won't help.

But no matter what, her cultivation difficulty has been reduced a lot. Moreover, the further she climbs, the stronger the external demons become, and the greater the advantage of having both awareness and observation!

Shengsheng was of course happy that he had overcome the calamity and gained something good.

But I was only happy for a few breaths.
