I, V, Gotham Legend

The stomach cramps made Valerie even wonder if she had some disease, but her remaining dignity as a man prevented her from going to the hospital for a check-up.
She had tried taking medicine that she brought with her own ability, but it only relieved the pain temporarily. Menstruation is not a simple wound tear, and if she wanted to take medicine, she had to wait until the menstrual period was over, otherwise it would have the opposite effect and prolong the menstrual period.
In comparison, mortal painkillers such as ibuprofen are more effective.
Having said that, the pain wasn't this severe before I went to the bar in the afternoon. Could someone have drugged me?
Although she could still bear it, the constant pain made Valerie increasingly irritable. She banged on the metal more and more vigorously, with the sound sounding like a firecracker. If you didn't know better, you would have thought that this was a factory operating normally, and the metal was being banged into pieces.
Inside the factory, Helena was punching a sandbag with a stern face. She prayed in her heart that Miss V's period would pass quickly.
Tonight's mercenary mission has been almost completed. Helena stayed here for the final training and can go home after completion.
Just as Helena finished her last round of weighted running, the sound of Valerie banging on the metal finally stopped.
The blue-haired mercenary pushed open the factory door and looked at Helena with his golden eyes.
"I guessed you were almost there." Valerie smiled refreshed, obviously all her anger had been vented.
"Is there something wrong?" Helena usually went out after completing her training targets.
"There's news from the next life that Scarface has come to visit us."
No. 6. Unexpected
When Valerie returned to the afterlife, she saw a lot of cars parked at the door and a group of thugs dressed like gangsters squatting at the door chatting.
They should be Scarface's men, but judging from the number of cars and thugs at the door, there don't seem to be many people entering the afterlife.
It looks like he's not here to cause trouble.
Valerie took Helena out of the car, and the thugs became quiet for a moment when they saw the iconic blue hair and yellow clothes, but no one went up to provoke them.
They consciously stepped aside and watched Valerie walk into the basement leading to the afterlife.
The decoration of the club was rebuilt by Valerie as close as possible to her memory. However, the club is much larger and uses high-tech that is not available in the game.
The staff of the Next Life knew why the boss suddenly came back. They selected a representative and pulled Valerie towards the private room.
The afterlife box that Valerie set up is usually unlocked by face scanning, but the staff has a key card to open the door.
After a simple card swiping, the glass door automatically opened, revealing the spacious and simple decoration of the private room.
An old man holding a puppet was sitting on the sofa, his expression looking timid, while Ma Long was sitting opposite him, and behind both of them stood a sturdy bodyguard.
After settling accounts with Falcone that day, Marlon became independent, regained his former name as Match, established his own power, and joined Valerie's team, becoming the real operator of the afterlife.
After Scarface arrived in a threatening manner, it was Malone who received him. They now looked friendly and did not look like they were going to fight.
"Hey, you're not dead yet." Valerie saw the rhino. The big guy looked very unhappy.
Rhino snorted coldly. There was an obvious bandage under his coat, which seemed to be used to stop bleeding.
Valerie blinked and did a quick scan to confirm the guy's physical condition.
Although it didn't look very good, there was no danger to life or even serious injuries.
Is this guy physically different?
"Ah..." Valerie sighed and looked back at Helena, "I was wrong. I should have cut the back of the head. I was too kind and wanted to leave a whole body."
Rhino's blood pressure soared due to Valerie's contempt, and the wounds wrapped in bandages were bleeding: "You..."
But Scarface immediately interrupted Rhino's anger: "Shut up! Idiot, how much more trouble are you going to cause me?"
Valerie finally turned her attention back to the old man on the sofa.
Arnold held the puppet, and his eyes seemed a little scared under his reading glasses, but the puppet stared at Valerie without fear.
Valerie saw the scar on the puppet's face and seemed to understand something. She blinked again: "What are you... Four O-no?"
"Nice to meet you. I'm the Scarface man who has become famous recently." The puppet's mouth opened and closed, but Valerie could tell that it was the old man who was speaking.
Is it ventriloquism? It looks like simple schizophrenia, not anything supernatural.
"My name is V. Tell me honestly, what do you want from me? You don't look like you're here for revenge." Without asking for permission, Valerie sat down on a sofa by herself. After all, she was the boss here.
Helena originally wanted to sit down, but when she looked at the two burly men standing in the room, she felt that Miss V's momentum would be weakened without someone behind her.
So she stood behind Valerie, with her arms folded across her chest, looking very capable.
Valerie looked back at Helena in confusion, not knowing what she was doing all of a sudden.
But Scarface got straight to the point: "Ms. V, we're here to apologize...Arnold!"
"Yes, boss." The old man in gloves took out a small box from his arms and handed it to the coffee table in front of the sofa.
"Rhino overestimated his own abilities and provoked you, so I asked him to leave something for you." Scarface laughed.
Valerie opened the box that looked like a glasses case, but saw only a thick severed finger.
She raised her head and looked at the rhino's hands, which were wrapped in bandages.
"If you really want to apologize, it's better to leave your head." Valerie said in a cold tone, as if she didn't appreciate it.
Rhino glared at her, but he didn't dare to speak when the boss told him to shut up.
"Don't be so harsh on a fool. He is not smart and is very reckless. It is God's favor that he can live to this day. But his loyalty is unquestionable." Scarface said in a steady tone. "Let's just leave it at that. What do you think?"
The hidden meaning of this sentence is that this matter ends here and we should just pretend that nothing happened.
"Are you really just going to let it go?" Valerie couldn't help but look up to the puppet. After careful consideration, she realized that few of the gangster bosses she had met before were able to keep their composure like this.
But this is also related to Valerie's recent fame. The big guys they met in the past only knew that Valerie was not easy to mess with, but they still had no idea how strong she was.
"We have more important goals than this meaningless fight. Gotham is currently in a power vacuum and what we need are more friends." Scar explained to Valerie.
"Okay, I can forgive you, but let's forget about this kind of thing between friends." Valerie nodded, and she pushed the glasses case with her fingers back to Arnold, "I don't need this thing, you can take it back."
"It's a pity that Rhino's severed finger can't be put back." Scarface seemed to be really sorry. "It's interesting to say, Miss V, our gang only cuts off other people's limbs for punishment. I don't have a habit of sadism."
"Why are you saying this all of a sudden?" Valerie felt as if she had finally seen the handle of the dagger.
"There are a lot of little rats in Gotham who enjoy dismembering people. I know quite a few of them." Arnold raised his hand, and Scarface seemed to stand up. "I heard from the survivors under my command that the reason you came to my place was to investigate human traffickers, right?"
Valerie finally became serious: "Do you have any clues about the human traffickers?"
"Let's make a small deal." Scarface sat back on Arnold's lap: "As long as you tie up the recently troubled Harvey Dent for me, I will tell you the clues about the human traffickers."
"You know I'm less than two meters away from you, right? I can directly torture you to get the clues I want." Valerie glared at Arnold, scaring him so much that he shrank back.
"Unfortunately, death is not a threat to the mob. And I can only give you what you want if I capture Harvey Dent."
Although Arnold was shaking with fear, Scarface's voice did not shake.
"From what I know, Harvey Dent is the protector behind these human traffickers." He said something that shocked everyone in the room.
No.7 How could this happen?
"Do you have evidence?"
Valerie's expression turned serious.
Seeing Harvey holding a press conference on TV a few days ago, the way he tossed a coin in public awakened Valerie's almost forgotten memory, and she finally remembered who this guy was.
She hadn't seen many Batman movies, but there was a character like this in one of them. He was originally a prosecutor with a strong sense of justice, but later half of his face was smashed by the villain. After a series of blows, he became corrupted.
That person also likes to toss coins.
Although the Two-Face in her memory was full of justice before he was disfigured, through Valerie's personal experience, she has seen many people and things that are completely different from those in the movies she has seen.
Don't be too empiricist. If you only rely on your memories of past lives to do things, you will fail sooner or later.
Scarface saw Valerie's serious look, leaned back in a very humane way, and laughed with his little mouth: "So I need you to invite him over."
As he spoke, Arnold pulled out a stack of documents wrapped in brown paper from his arms and handed them to the glass coffee table.
Valerie took the paper bag, opened the documents and looked through them in silence.
There is a photo of Harvey Dent hugging a pair of twin girls. The background of the picture is a warehouse. It seems to be taken by a surveillance camera and his face is actually captured.
In addition, there was a list with many names on it, and Harvey Dent was among them.
Valerie turned another page, her expression serious.
The picture above showed a girl being disemboweled. It should be one of the twins. The photo was so bloody and cruel that Helena, who was standing behind Valerie, felt her heart tremble.
Valerie frowned and raised her eyes: "Where did you get these photos? These contents can't represent what Harvey Dent did, right?"
"This is a human trafficker's base that my men captured. This list was found from there. It contains all the civil servants who accepted bribes from that organization." Scarface said preparedly. "It also contains the bribery account. I also spent a lot of effort to torture him to find out."
"Where is that base?"
"It's on the document." Scarface's wooden little hand pointed to one of the papers.
Valerie rolled over again, then took a deep breath.
"I have a friend who is very close to Harvey. I'll ask him if he knows about this." Valerie put away the folder.
"Are you talking about Batman?" Scarface chuckled, "Don't get excited, everyone in Gotham knows about your friendship, but I bet he won't know about this..."
"I will consider your commission after confirming the situation. Now, please go back." Valerie ordered them to leave. She was not in a good mood.
"I'll wait for you and Dent." Scarface said with certainty, "Let's go, Arnold."
The old man picked up Scarface, with his mouth tightly shut, and walked towards the door. Rhino followed him like a dog.
There were no outsiders in the room. Malone's bodyguard nodded to Valerie and then walked out of the room.
Valerie watched these people leave with empty eyes, and only threw the folder back on the coffee table after the door closed.
"Harvey Dent is such a person?" Helena finally spoke, with a disillusioned expression.
A few weeks ago, Harvey enacted the Dent Act, which dealt a heavy blow to the city's gangs, which originally made Helena have a good impression of Harvey.
"We don't know Scarface. Maybe he is lying. It would be easy for him to forge the photos." Malone had a different opinion. He had seen many cases of frame-up.
Valerie did not take up the topic. A pop-up window of the phone book had popped up in her field of vision. After hesitating for a moment, she chose to call Barbara first.
The ringing sounded in Valerie's mind for a while before it was successfully connected. Barbara's puzzled voice rang out: "Is another super criminal about to attack Gotham?"
Barbara is very aware of her role as a tool, and every time Valerie comes to her it's about something IT-related.
Thinking back to the last time Valerie contacted her, she wanted to help steal some analysis data on white metal.
"I'll send you an account number and help me check the transfer records." Valerie said, blinking and taking a picture of the account information in the file. "Especially those related to Harvey Dent."
She didn't tell Barbara why she was investigating Dent.
"Harvey Dent? Okay, give me some time." Barbara didn't ask any more questions, but took the task neatly.
After hanging up the phone, Valerie picked up the pile of documents and turned the pages one by one, and Qi Lu's artificial eye took a picture of each one.
Since Batman might be busy with the masquerade and have no time to answer the phone, Valerie packed up the documents and sent them to Alfred, it all made a difference anyway.
But Alfred didn't reply for a long time, and Valerie rested her chin on her hand, thinking about what to do next.
The movie she had seen before still had an impact on Valerie. In addition, the ventriloquist looked abnormal in every way, so she still remained skeptical about the documents.
She had promised Batman in the past that she would not involve innocent people in her missions, which was also part of the billion-dollar agreement.
But intuition is just intuition, and Harvey is still very suspicious. This contradictory psychology makes Valerie struggle internally.
Helena had a chat with Marlon about Harvey Dent, and they seemed to have a lot in common.
But seeing the irritation between Valerie's eyebrows, they lowered their voices to a low tone.
"It's so annoying! Why do I have to consider whether he is innocent or not!" Valerie stood up from the sofa.
The sudden noise frightened the two people in the room, and they looked at Valerie blankly.
"Come with me, Huntress, let's go find the prosecutor." Valerie said to Helena.
"Have you decided to believe Scarface's words?" Helena asked with a blink.
"No." Valerie's golden eyes flashed, "Let's catch Harvey Dent first. We can tell whether he is wrongly accused or not later."
Even the police can take the suspect away first, let alone a mercenary like Valerie.
Capture Harvey Dent, and then take him to investigate the human traffickers. If he is really the mastermind, torture him to get clues about other human traffickers. Otherwise, tell him about Scarface.
