I, V, Gotham Legend
Page 116
"I don't know if you've seen this pretty girl, but as someone who's in prison in Gotham, you should know her if you have access to television." Deathstroke said with some emotion, "The last time I saw her, she was still a relatively unknown rookie mercenary, and she boasted to me that she had received a billion-dollar order."
Deadshot didn't know the relationship between Deathstroke and Valerie, but based on a few words from Deathstroke, he still deduced who it was.
"V? She's in Metropolis? You said she was in disguise?" Deadshot's glasses zoomed, and he carefully looked for the familiar delicate face.
Is it a secret mission or some hidden plan?
There was no way he was hiding from someone. As far as he knew, V was a guy who was very proud of his abilities. He had even tried to defeat Death Shooter with a sniper during their first fight. He couldn't imagine that such a guy would hide his identity.
You're not on vacation, are you? I just happened to bump into them.
"Deathstroke, where is the V you mentioned?" Deathstroke failed to find the target, so he asked again into the communication.
"In fact, I was looking for her too." Deathstroke responded with the same surprise. "Just when I was talking to you, she disappeared from where she was."
"Didn't you see clearly?" Alarm bells rang in Death Shooter's heart. He knew that V had the ability to suddenly accelerate himself.
"It's not that I didn't see it clearly, it was just for a moment..."
"Yo, guys, I don't know who you're talking about, but there's a chick over here."
Deathstroke was halfway through his words when a noisy voice suddenly interrupted them.
Death Shooter's heart skipped a beat. He lowered his head and looked towards the alley that should have been quiet.
Harkness leaned his shoulder against the wall and spoke to the black-haired woman not far from him in a frivolous manner. Although his expression was greasy, Deadshot noticed that his hand hidden at his side had touched the boomerang.
Valerie squinted her eyes and could see in her sonic vision a red line connecting the headphones of the frivolous man in front of her, like a connected network.
"I heard you trying to persuade someone not to fall, so I came over to take a look," Valerie pretended to be just a passerby and looked up.
In fact, it was Helena who heard Harkness's voice reminding the Deadshot. They had just finished watching the movie and were going to the circus to buy tickets, but on the way, Helena suddenly looked suspiciously at the alley that should have been empty.
It just so happened that Valerie had always felt that someone was watching her. In order to avoid the situation that happened last time when she discovered something unusual but ignored it, which led to a reporter falling from the building and ruining their fun, she took the initiative to come over to check.
"There's no one here, just a naughty kid. I'm watching here, so you don't have to worry about it." Harkness said with a relaxed look on his face.
The Deadshot had already hidden himself, but Valerie's vision had switched to thermal imaging, and she could see that the man lying on the roof of the low house didn't look like a child at all.
"This is really... Can you change the time slot when you want to do something illegal?" Valerie said with some dissatisfaction, "Yesterday or tomorrow will do, but you just happened to be nearby."
Hearing these words that seemed to tear the surface apart, Harkness reacted quickly. He immediately put away his nonchalant expression, threw boomerangs with both hands alternately, and then immediately stepped back to create distance.
"You're quite anxious." Valerie sighed, and then her figure disappeared from Harkness's eyes.
"Behind!" A shout rang out along with the sound of a sniper rifle being fired, followed by the sound of metal colliding. Harkness immediately ran forward a few steps and looked back.
Valerie didn't care about this guy at all. She held a pink samurai sword in her hand and looked at the roof with sudden realization: "It turned out to be you! You are not dead yet?"
Deadshot was not wearing a mask this time, he only had a monocular. After exposing his position, he immediately shrank back into the room, changing positions nervously and quickly.
Before Harkness could figure out what was going on, he took the two boomerangs that hadn't hit anything beforehand. "What the hell is that? Teleportation? Super speed?"
So far, he has never fought against anyone so fast.
"Hold on, I'll be there soon." The voice of the death knell came from Harkness's headphones, making him very dissatisfied.
"Didn't you see how fast this guy is? I don't want to deal with someone who runs so fast." Although he said this, Harkness still got ready.
Little did the fledgling Captain Boomerang know that this was only the beginning of his ill-fated relationship with super speed.
NO32. Short gun for sniping
Harkness threw two-handed boomerangs, then pulled open his coat, revealing an arsenal of boomerangs stacked inside his clothes.
He didn't do this just to show off his equipment, he immediately pulled out two more and held them in his hands like machetes.
The thrown boomerang spun towards Valerie's face, but the speed was not fast enough for Valerie, so she could dodge it by turning her head.
But Valerie didn't really dodge. She simply reached out and caught the dart closest to her, then threw it back.
The spinning dart accurately knocked another dart away and then flew towards Harkness.
Harkness quickly threw the two in his hand, then he reached out to catch the boomerang that almost hit his face.
"You can't play like this!" he shouted and threw the knife in his hand away.
"It's boring." Valerie thought the boomerang was a bit boring, so she picked up her cocktail stick, rushed towards Harkness, and chopped away the darts that came along the way.
Harkness knew that he was no match for Valerie in a head-on confrontation, so he turned around and ran away in a hurry.
Valerie took a deep breath. Even Sian Westin didn't need to keep away from her at this distance. She flashed in front of Captain Boomerang.
She flipped over the cocktail stick and smashed the back of the knife into Harkness's neck.
It's not that she didn't want to chop him with a knife, but if she did, his blood would splatter everywhere, which might attract the police. Helena was still waiting for her, and she didn't have time to clean up the scene.
If the police came and cordoned off the scene, the circus performance might be forced to stop. This alley was only separated from the circus by a wall, and this was an important attraction tonight.
But just before Valerie's machete was about to strike Captain Boomerang's neck, she heard a gunshot.
The bullet was much faster than the speed of sound, but it did not hit Valerie directly. She immediately activated Swanwestin and forcibly stopped the momentum of slashing towards Harkness. She pulled back the blade and used all her strength to deflect the bullet that hit the ground and bounced back to her head.
The speed and size of this bullet were greater than any bullet Valerie had ever seen in the world, and its caliber was likely enough to break through her subcutaneous armor.
This was just Valerie's guess based on the caliber of the bullet, but she wasn't stupid enough to test it out in combat to see if it was true.
The Death Shooter set up a gun that could be called a cannon. A tube extended from the gun to connect to the metal backpack he was carrying. It looked like a very high-tech device.
He had deeply learned from the experience of his last fight with Valerie. He would never get close to her and would only use large-caliber sniping, even though Valerie was now standing in front of his teammates.
However, a gun of this level is also very troublesome to move. The Death Shooter did not change his position. He nervously changed the magazine on the spot.
Valerie decided to deal with the guy in front of her first. She turned around, which scared Harkness, but Captain Boomerang also fought hard. He pulled out two boomerangs as if they were machetes and slashed at Valerie with his fangs and claws.
In the world where time slowed down, Harkness moved as slowly as a sloth. Valerie didn't even try to dodge. The cocktail stick was swung out like a baseball bat, and the blade slapped the guy in the face like a slap.
Harkness's head was smashed into the ground, and he fell headfirst and lost consciousness.
Valerie pulled back the cocktail stick and blocked the returning boomerang with the back of her head.
This was Harkness' first time facing a freak like Valerie, and he obviously did his best.
Valerie raised her head and looked in the direction of the Death Shooter. At this moment, the man had just pulled the complicated safety and pointed the gun directly at Valerie's head.
The sound of gunfire could also attract the police, but compared to the death of people, it would not have much impact on surrounding activities. After all, this is the United States, and shootings are quite common.
Valerie pulled a wine bottle from her pocket and threw it at the sniper gun.
The Death Shooter also pulled the trigger, and the bullet shattered the bottle with the same force, and this time it was much more powerful than the previous one.
There was no need for Valerie to try to catch the bullet with her face; she dodged the bullet by shaking her head and ran towards the wall.
The speed of the world just returned to normal at this moment, and Sian Westin fell into a state of cooling down.
Valerie ran towards the corner where the Death Shooter was lurking. The distance was too far, and it was difficult to ensure the accuracy of her long-range attacks. But just as she stepped onto the wall and was about to climb up, a sound of breaking wind came from behind her.
Valerie pushed against the wall and leapt backward into the air, watching a boomerang brush past her nose and fly off into the evening sky.
She fell to the ground again, turned around and looked in the direction where the dart was thrown.
Captain Boomerang was still unconscious. A one-eyed handsome man with white hair stood beside him. There were two swords on his back, which were obviously the boomerangs thrown by him.
"I think I've seen you." Valerie said to Deathstroke who finally arrived.
"It's not as if. The last time we met was in prison." Deathstroke drew two swords from behind, and his one eye was as sharp as an eagle.
Deadshot watched Deathstroke's movements and immediately spoke on the comms: "What are you doing? The plan has changed. It's time to retreat."
He had intended to hold Valerie back while Deathstroke took Captain Boomerang away, but Deathstroke looked like he wanted to join the fight.
"Don't worry, it's useless to worry." Valerie suddenly said, "I know exactly where you are and where you are going next."
Deadshot realized that Valerie was talking to him on the comms, and he immediately pursed his lips and stopped discussing plans with Deathstroke.
Deathstroke was silent for a moment. He pressed the accessories on the headset, and Captain Boomerang behind him suddenly twitched and electric current passed through his whole body.
"Guha!" Harkness pulled his head out of the ground, his chin still trembling from the electric shock, and an expression of disbelief on his face.
As neither Deadshot nor Captain Boomerang would submit to the other, Amanda gave the captaincy to Deathstroke. The captain's privilege was to punish his subordinates by releasing electric current from a bomb buried in the back of his neck.
Although it is a means of punishment, it is also useful to wake up unconscious subordinates in dangerous situations.
"We are responsible for receiving a box. Do you know where it is? Did you take it away?" Deathstroke asked Valerie seriously.
"Brother Deathstroke, you told everyone our secret mission?!" Harkness, who had just recovered from the paralysis, almost screamed.
Fortunately, Amanda, who had theoretically been eavesdropping, didn't press the button to blow their heads off.
"I don't know, were you stood up?" Valerie pouted. "I just came to check on the situation and told you to slow down when you were doing bad things, but you just came and started fighting."
NO33. Show some sincerity
Although Captain Boomerang was awakened by the electric current, his body was still in a paralyzed state. It was very difficult for him to get up for a while, and he had to use up all his strength to shout.
The Death Shooter was still lying on the roof, sweating profusely as he adjusted the sniper rifle, as if he was avoiding a wild beast. He found that there seemed to be something wrong with it.
For a moment, the only one who could stand face to face with Valerie was Deathstroke who had just arrived in a hurry.
Deathstroke did not know Valerie's specific strength, but when Deadshot talked about her, he always acted as if he was facing a formidable enemy, which made him raise his guard against Valerie.
"You really don't have any clues about the cargo we are going to pick up? This is very important to us." asked Deathstroke.
The main delivery person for the delivery mission was at least half an hour late. If it were any other situation, Deathstroke might have just let it go. At worst the mission would fail. He might even get into a fight with this guy named V as a competition if he got excited. But now they had bombs buried in their heads.
"I don't know. If something or someone is missing, I suggest calling the police." Valerie pouted. "Just don't interrupt the circus performance."
Deathstroke lowered his head and thought about what to do. It seemed that V in front of him really didn't know about this.
"I don't know what you, a Gotham-based mercenary, are doing here in Metropolis, but we can just pretend nothing happened and leave. We're working for the government now."
Deathstroke decided to change the subject and brought up the government banner, and luckily Amanda didn't blow their heads off for doing that.
Although he himself had not yet participated, their team had already fought a round with V. If Valerie really had nothing to do with the cargo, continuing the fight was obviously not a rational choice. He had to find a way to escape with his two teammates.
"I'm so scared." Valerie stuck out her tongue in disdain. Perhaps because she had been in Gotham for too long, the current American government did not give her a sense of oppression. "Do you want me to say it again? I just came to check the situation. You were the first to start."
Deathstroke glanced at Captain Boomerang, who was still unable to get up due to paralysis, and then shifted his gaze back: "We will punish him, but if you want his life, we can't agree to it. After all, he is still a useful teammate to us."
"If I really wanted to kill him, I wouldn't have gone to such lengths." No one at the scene thought Valerie was bragging. "My time is limited. If you want to leave, I can agree, but you were the first to do it, so you have to show some reaction."
Deathstroke was silent for a while: "What do you want?"
"I have no idea. It depends on your sincerity."
Deathstroke felt that they had nothing to offer, and that Valerie was probably making things difficult for them. He silently reached for the knife on his back, ready to fight to the death.
At this moment, Amanda Waller, who had been diving in the communication, finally gave an order: "Don't waste time. The missing informant is the focus of your current mission. Get rid of this woman quickly."
"I think so too, but now we are surrounded." Deathstroke answered on behalf of Deathstroke, his super sniper rifle still had not been repaired.
"Leave the boomerang finger behind. Those Gotham thugs like to do that." There was no mercy for her subordinates in Amanda's words. In her eyes, these criminal agents were scum who deserved to die.
"Wait, what?" Harkness, who was still struggling on the ground, was too shocked to react for a while until he looked into the one eye of Deathstroke.
"Wait! My specialty is dart throwing!" Captain Boomerang struggled to get up, but Deathstroke had already drawn his sword and walked to his side, slashing at Harkness's toes.
"Ouch! Oh wow wow wow! You really fucking cut me! " Blood splattered as the sharp weapon instantly cut off bones, causing Harkness to scream in pain.
In order to make his teammates less painful and also to prevent the screams from attracting other people, Deathstroke pressed the headphones again, allowing the electric current to flow through Harkness' body, who had just been awakened from coma, but this time the purpose was to make him faint.
"How is it? Is that enough?" Deathstroke turned around and asked Valerie.
"Do you have some strange misunderstanding about me?" Valerie raised her eyes helplessly, "Don't you American mercenaries have the option of paying for private settlement?"
She wasn't a cruel gangster, so what was the point of having fingers, especially men's toes?
"Money?" Neither Deathstroke nor Deadshot nor even Amanda behind the scenes had thought of this. In their impression and even in the rumors they had heard about V, this woman didn't seem like someone who would care about money.
"It's about money. When most people hear the hint of sincerity, don't they think of money first?" Valerie thought these people were really unreasonable.
"What? The billionaire boss didn't give you any expenses?" Although it was a bit inappropriate, Deathstroke couldn't help but speak.
Hearing the number one billion, Valerie couldn't help but look up at Deathstroke. After frowning and thinking for a while, she finally showed an expression of sudden enlightenment.
"I think I remember who you are, the guy doing push-ups in prison?" Besides Malone, Valerie had only boasted about the billion-dollar order to this colleague. "Of course we got the billion, but money is always a burden. Didn't you say you have the government behind you?"
"Waller?" Deathstroke asked Amanda in a low voice.
"Budget is limited." But Amanda looked stingy.
