Warhammer, but Emperor's Chosen
Page 108
The temple was surrounded by heavy stone steps that raised the main building to a grander height. The steps were carved with coiled serpents and burning braziers, and three narrow tunnels separated the steps, two on each side and one in the center.
Noah tried to reduce the thickness of the veil to zero, but the building was still there.
It is real and not an illusion created by the warp.
Calgar and Noah looked at each other and walked up the stairs with their respective guards.
At the top of the steps, dancing braziers reflected red light on the scales and quartz eyes of the giant snake statue. The last rays of the setting sun shone on the winding snake patterns on the columns, making them look lifelike, as if they were slowly cruising towards the steps.
The Space Marines and Battle Sisters spread out around the stairs, alert to possible dangers around them. It shouldn't be so quiet here.
boom!
A monster smashed through the house, roared, and rushed towards the ranks of Space Marines, waving its iron claws covered with spikes and barbs.
The monster looked like a combination of flesh and blood and machines. Its upper body was a blue demon body, while its lower body had six thick steel limbs like a crab.
Each of its legs is engraved with the blasphemous Chaos Eight-Pointed Star symbol. Its bloodthirsty and violent desire makes it never feel hungry or thirsty. Its entire body exudes the breath of death and hatred, engraving fear deeply into everyone's mind.
It was a demon engine, and the Space Marine database had a more detailed name for it:
Soul Grinder!
Chaos Space Marines of the Emperor's Children emerged from all directions, and they launched an attack on the Space Marines with the help of the Daemon Engines. Several Zakus took the initiative to meet the Daemon Engines, and several Castellan Fighters assisted from the side. The Space Marines and Battle Sisters also immediately engaged the Emperor's Children passionately, and the battle quickly entered a white-hot stage.
Calga and Noah had already climbed onto the moonlit platform. Huge pillars lined up on both sides of the road, with a large number of snake statues carved on them, extending all the way to a majestic arched gate in front of the temple.
The wide gate is carved from bronze, and the spiral patterns on the surface reflect the light.
On it was a vast mural of giant snakes entwined from leaf to leaf, others coiling around and swallowing their tails, while still more snakes entwined themselves as if in copulation.
In the center of the mural is a large tree with lush branches and leaves, full of various fruits. Three tree roots meander out from the bottom of the gate and extend into a wide circular pool.
The door was slowly opening with the roaring sound of rocks rubbing against each other.
trap!
This word popped up in Karga's mind.
Before he could think about whether to go in, a huge black shadow suddenly jumped out from the darkness of the temple.
Before Calgar could react, the black shadow slammed into his body, and its broad, sharp wings carried him and his honor guard straight to the ground.
It was not until this moment that Noah, who was standing by, saw the true identity of the black shadow.
That was a huge hell dragon!
While being hit by the Helldrake, Calgar did not lose the ability to resist. His power fist hit the Helldrake's neck hard, causing this demon engine to cry and scream and fall to the ground with him.
“They were not on the invitation list.”
At the entrance of the temple, a tall figure walked out of the darkness and smiled gently at Noah:
"Sir Noah, my name is Fergus, and I am waiting for you here!"
He said, bowing slightly towards Noah.
"Please follow me."
Noah didn't move, but just looked at Fergus's back as if he was a fool.
No, why should he go in?
Noah had just come up with this thought when his figure suddenly disappeared from the spot the next moment.
"Noah!"
Cassia's face changed, and she hurriedly reached out and grabbed his arm.
-----------------
He opened his eyes and saw the blue sky above him, which made him smile.
Crimson clouds drifted slowly across the field of vision, calm and lazy.
He looked up for a moment, then sat up and felt the wetness of dew under his palms. He noticed that he was naked, looked around, put his hands to his face, and smelled the fragrance of the grass and the crystal-like freshness of the air.
An incomparable beauty appeared before him. The towering snow-capped mountains were covered with shawls woven from pine and fir trees. In the distance, he could see a green forest and a cold river with white foam.
Hundreds of furry herbivores were feeding leisurely on the plains, and birds were playing happily overhead. He sat on the lower slope of the foothills, the sun warming his face, and the green grass under his feet was surprisingly soft.
"So that's it," he said to himself calmly, "I'm dead."
"What about you? Are you dead too?" he asked.
Opposite him, Noah looked up at the sky and sighed softly:
“It’s hard to guard against it!”
Noah immediately opened the modification page of the treasure bag and looked at the thickness of the veil: 6789.
Noah did not rush to make changes, but instead fell into deep thought.
Seeing that Noah didn't answer, he didn't get angry, but just smiled gently and waited quietly.
Noah came back to his senses, looked at the giant on the hillside, and shook his head gently:
"No, I'm not dead."
He said clearly:
"Oh, then I shouldn't be dead either."
Noah's eyes looked a little sad:
"No, you're dead."
He looked at Noah with some confusion, but still calmly accepted the result.
he asked:
"If I die, is this heaven or hell?"
Noah asked, "Do you believe that heaven really exists?"
"Do not."
His eyes were surprisingly firm, "Someone once taught me that it was just an ancient heresy!"
After a pause, he asked again in confusion:
"Why are you here?"
"I don't want to come here either."
Noah felt unexpectedly calm, "but someone grabbed my hand and forcibly brought me here, shouting 'Pick up a cat, family, he wants to go home with me'."
He sat down cross-legged and looked at Noah with some pity:
"So, this is actually a cage?"
Noah sat down next to him:
"I feel like it's hell, but maybe I'm hallucinating."
"Why is it an illusion?"
"Because you're dead."
He didn't feel offended at all, but analyzed it seriously:
"You're right. If I'm dead and you're still alive, then we really shouldn't meet. This is really an illusion. But you should know me, right? Otherwise you wouldn't know I'm dead."
He gave himself a thumbs up and thought he was a logical genius.
Noah lay on the grass and looked at the five suns in the sky:
"I know you, you don't know me."
He followed suit and lay down, which was very uncomfortable.
The grass was soft, but it scratched his skin and hurt.
He was different from Noah, who was wearing golden armor that shone brightly.
But he was naked.
Hey, wait.
He lowered his head and found that he was wearing a white woolen robe with blood stains. Where did it come from?
He thought for a while, but couldn't find the answer, so he just ignored it and asked:
"Then how do you know me?"
"I know some of the legends about you."
When he heard the word "legend", he seemed to understand:
"If there is a legend about me that is passed down through the world, then I must have been a great person when I was alive, right?"
"I guess so." Noah's attitude was a bit perfunctory.
He was watching the sun fight.
At first there were only four suns in the sky, blue, purple, red and green, but the golden sun that suddenly appeared was bigger than all of them, forcing the other suns aside and occupying the best viewing position.
He frowned in dissatisfaction:
"Why does this count? Isn't there a more accurate evaluation?"
Noah sighed:
"That's a life full of ups and downs but also accomplishing nothing!"
"Am I that bad?"
He fell into deep self-doubt.
Noah asked in surprise:
"Unbearable? What do you mean?"
He looked at Noah doubtfully and said:
"If it's magnificent, it means I've done some outstanding things. If it's nothing, it means I destroyed all the achievements I made with my own hands, isn't that right?"
Noah was silent for a while, then nodded heavily:
"Yes."
He was so disappointed that he said:
"Then I'm such a jerk!"
Noah comforted him:
"It's not that bad actually. After all, you are still a filial son."
He was surprised: "A filial son? Do I have parents?"
Noah said very seriously, "No, your mother is dead."
He didn't care whether he had a mother or not, but asked with great interest:
"That means I have a father. How filial am I?"
"It's probably the level where he drags his sick body and takes his brothers to celebrate his father's birthday."
He didn't notice anything unusual, but asked happily:
"I have brothers? What kind of people are they?"
Noah pondered for a long time, then spoke slowly:
"The madman who likes to sulk, the one-eyed red-skinned Ogryn, the insane Batman, the taciturn captain, the two-faced undercover, the heavily made-up snake spirit, the mentally retarded person, and the precious thing who only knows how to pray."
He looked sad:
"Are you sure they are my brothers?"
"That's right!"
"Brother?"
