Kyle said this with a confused look on his face again, his hands scratching the ground.
"Could this be the amnesia the Commander was talking about? Like, I can't even remember what I was supposed to do?!" MDR frantically posted and discussed on the Griffin Oasis forum. Many T-Dolls followed suit.
Is this why the commander said he forgot a lot of the details of the battle? He doesn't seem too keen on commanding so many people. Experience and other things need to be accumulated all over again.
"Don't be afraid, at least the Commander still remembers us. Although he only remembers our names and faces... He probably can't remember many things that happened in the past."
"The commanders of today probably only remember that they commanded many battles, but they may not be able to recall the specific actions they took... But we need the commander's command to unleash our original combat effectiveness, right?"
I once read a book that said when communication is poor, we need to encourage the team to take initiative! We've always relied heavily on our commander, and now that he needs time to regain his abilities, we need to rely on ourselves as well!
[Makes sense!] [+1]
MDR was posting here, and Carol was communicating with Kyle who was lying on the other side.
"Mr. Kyle? Mr. Kyle?" Carol spoke loudly to Kyle with the qualities of a professional anchor.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. Haha, it's so annoying, I've been daydreaming a lot lately. Anyway, I really like maps, just remember that," Kyle said with a smile, then a thoughtful look, "I've been in this country for a while. The lost kingdom of Dolan Gureg... I've always longed to visit this place. Have you been to Rumi?"
"I know Rumi. Just go along with it." Sun Yang's voice sounded in Carol's ears in time.
"Well, of course. Who doesn't know Rumi?" Carol nodded immediately.
"Is that place gradually becoming popular? Anyway, there's a big house there, and I'm using it as my base right now. I'm renting it myself, though."
"Then, here comes the point. There's a very strange map in that house, something I've never seen before. It must be Dolan Gureg's map. I've been wandering around this world just to prove this." Kyle continued, then revealed a delighted expression.
"Yes! That's it! I came to this country just to do this - huh? No, wait, it doesn't seem to be? What's going on with me... my memory..." Kyle looked dazed again.
Carol began trying to wake the human in front of her again. Finally finding someone willing to communicate, she naturally had to ask more questions. Nahita and Sur, guarding the path ahead and behind, could only sigh and begin to secretly post. This was going to take quite a while, so why not take this opportunity to catch some fish?
"I say, this isn't good. The Commander is fine now, probably because he hasn't lost much of his common sense and core memories. Should we quickly figure out why the Commander has lost so much of his memory?"
It's probably a curse. The Commander said he's undead, unable to completely die, but death will accumulate curses. So, it seems like even just moving will slowly accumulate curses. Look at Kyle, he's perfectly fine, but he's already become a zombie.
[I had a very bad thought, and I thought I might not be alone.]
"What are you dreaming about! What if it accumulates even if I don't move? It'll still end up hurting the Commander! This kind of thing can't be proven without experimentation!"
[I think I can ask the Commander to conduct this experiment.]
"How could something like this possibly get through?! Let's think carefully about how to cure the curse!"
M14, who had struggled out of the water sticker, looked at Sun Yang who was eating and drinking next to him, and hesitated for a while before opening his mouth.
"Commander, is there any way to resolve your curse?"
"Yes, using a human figure can clear the curse, or if one's soul is strong enough, one can suppress the curse's effects. But a complete cure is impossible, I know that well. M14, don't you also need to replace your body or organize your mental space?"
"Then you just need to use the portrait memory to return! Great! Where can I find that portrait?" M14 didn't expect her commander to know the answer so early! As expected of her commander, he was so wise!
"Each team picked up a few. I'll use them after the battle if I die or my zombie transformation becomes severe. Using the portraits does restore memories, so I can remember you."
"Isn't that all of it?"
"When I came here, an old firefighter lady gave me a portrait. This is all I can remember. It feels like a serious injury or disease will leave sequelae that cannot be completely cured. I don't expect to find it back. For now, I am satisfied to be able to remember these." Sun Yang said as he continued to look at the screen.
"Understood. We will protect the commander's memory!" M14 said, and quickly shared what Sun Yang had just said. The T-dolls in the thread started a new round of discussion.
Meanwhile, Kyle, finally regaining his composure, continued nagging, "Do you want to see that map? Great! It seems you're just as interested in it as I am! You're really wicked! If that's the case, why didn't you just tell me earlier?"
Kyle said as he pulled a bunch of random things out of his pocket, rummaged through it, and pulled out a key.
"Here, this is the key to that room. I never expected to meet someone as interested as I am here! That map is truly beautiful, like it was meticulously carved from stone." Kyle handed the key to Carol and continued digging in the dirt. Then he looked up as if remembering something.
"By the way, it's best not to go deep into the room. I don't know what's in there, but I hear strange noises... How should I put it, it always makes me feel uncomfortable. Be careful when you go there."
"Of course, of course, no problem." Carol carefully put the key away.
"I will be back to Rumi soon. See you again if we have the chance. We can talk about the map then. Oh, I'm sorry to have kept you guys for so long." Kyle continued to dig at the soil.
"No, it's okay, it's okay, you continue. Sur, Nahita, and myself, we should keep going." Carol called out to the three dazed human figures who were sticking to the water.
[What do you mean by myself?] MDR complained in the team voice chat.
Afterwards, the team smoothly explored the entire area thoroughly, returning with a full load. However, the area explored by the MDR and AR teams was still dozens of times larger than in the game, but the humanoids' exploration efficiency was far superior to that of humans, which accounted for their apparent speed.
19 Doran Fortress is really too big, but it can’t withstand the fiery hearts of the humanoids!
Team 404 and Team Disobedient descended the ladder together, both sides remaining silent, the only sounds being the puffs of silenced weapons and the soft thuds of footsteps.
"It's a multi-story structure. We have a large group, so we'll explore the lower floors. Is it okay for you to explore this floor?" UMP45 asked AK12.
[No problem, but be careful of the lizards down there; they can spit fire. They might burn the base.] AK12 agreed to the plan and led his troops to explore this level, while Team 404 searched for a way down.
This floor was enormous, even boasting multiple layers. Team 404 spent a considerable amount of time clearing the path of zombie soldiers. After wandering around, even running into the Disobedient Team several times, they finally found a strangely structured facility after turning a few corners.
The facility resembled a side-by-side elevator, but was very crudely constructed.
The structure consisted of two square wooden ladders, each with a generous standing area and a raised block in the center. UMP45 examined the structure and determined that when one ladder descended, the other would ascend.
UMP45 was extremely skeptical about the reliability of this vertical ladder. The platforms were made entirely of wood, and eight dangling iron chains held the two platforms together. Could it be that this ladder was raised and lowered solely by human effort? Perhaps the slaves above would forcefully twist the handles if someone stepped on them?
"I'll try it first." 416 pulled a bundle of strong, thin ropes from her bag and draped them around her waist, attaching the other ends to her three teammates. After all, she often had to move around with G11, so she always had these things on hand.
416 stepped on the block, and the ladder immediately moved downward. 416 watched the string at her waist continue to extend. She looked up and saw two rows of rectangular holes on the roof. The iron chains were emerging from them. But why did the chains trigger when she stepped on the block? There was no room for any mechanical structure on the platform.
Everything in front of him flew by quickly. The elevator didn't stop at other floors, but went all the way to the bottom. 416 lifted his foot, let the platform reset, and stepped on it again.
The elevator went up again. After confirming that there were no problems, Team 404 reached the bottom floor together.
The corridor on the lowest level of the fortress was narrow, but thankfully, it was a one-way street. Team 404 quickly reached their destination: a door beside the corridor, inscribed with indecipherable writing and guarded by a soldier. A large breach had been made in the wall directly ahead, and beyond it lay a dug-out passage.
Team 404 flew the drone over the cave for a few minutes before suddenly seeing a clear view. It was a fairly large cavern, illuminated brightly by the light from the ceiling.
In the center of the cave, among the countless broken walls that had fallen into the cave, stood a very tall, human-shaped tree.
This tree absorbs the sunlight from the sky and sprouts green buds. It even has muscle patterns similar to those of a human, and the position of its head resembles certain anal areas of the human body.
[Even the trees in this place look so strange?] 416 frowned as he looked at the drone footage.
"That is the last giant, or to be more precise, the former Giant King. This thing is very dangerous. After you finish exploring and come up, we will deal with it together." Sun Yang explained decisively.
Although he said he wanted to solve the problem together, in reality, he only wanted to take the giant's soul. No matter how powerful it was, it was still defeated by the Kingdom of Dolan, although historically speaking, it should have been killed by itself.
[Giant, tree? This thing's still alive? Well, regardless, I think the final treatment is better. This tree is a bit strange.] UMP45 looked at the tree on the screen with doubt, but still controlled the drone to fly back.
The door with the sign hanging next to it wasn't difficult to open. Team 404 used the tools they had with them and pried it open in a short while. Then, a wave of heat hit them.
Behind the door was a long passage and something like a pantry. However, due to years of high temperatures, the color and degree of damage of this passage were very different from those of the outer city walls.
Behind the passage is a long cave. The walls, ceiling and floor of the cave are all made of black stones. Some of the stones are flashing with fiery red light and are even on fire.
"How is this possible? How could stone catch fire? It must be coal, right? The temperature here is already over 9 degrees, right?" UMP wiped the coolant from her head, her circulatory system working furiously.
It's so hot, my body is going off the alarm. My mind is melting. G11 squinted at the heat. The battery on his back began to power the cooling system.
[Look at this place, it's a lizard farm.] UMP45 placed the drone inside. The high temperature affected the drone, and the image became blurry. However, one could still make out the many free-range lizards moving around.
How do we keep this lizard alive? The humans in this world are just too strong. Sister 45, if we explore this place without proper protective gear, we'll definitely burn and our minds will melt!
"Forget about the base bodies. I think our weapons would explode. We're not designed to withstand high temperatures." 416 said, raising the weapon in his hand.
"Let's ask the Commander for assistance. Going in with people like us who only know how to fight will only lead to our own death." UMP45 said somewhat unwillingly. It was really frustrating to run into obstacles at every turn on her first reconnaissance mission.
However, despite being unhappy, UMP45 still reported the situation here to Sun Yang as soon as possible.
"That kind of place really needs professional T-dolls. You guys come back first... The Disobedient Squad has a bit too much work, so you guys should take care of the middle floors." Sun Yang revised the assignment. Squad 404 took the elevator back to the starting point and began to search for a route to clear each floor one by one.
Sun Yang contacted Xian and Delasai at the Oasis base, asking them if they had any experience in operating near the volcanic area and dealing with the large, fire-breathing, armored creatures that inhabited it.
Xian is an experienced humanoid who has explored extreme environments, from snowfields, swamps, deserts, mines, to the vicinity of volcanoes. He has seen all sorts of strange environments. Drase is a humanoid maintenance technician with extensive experience in humanoid modification.
If you need to ask a professional for help, you should not just blindly follow the limited knowledge you have. If no one knows, you can only guess.
[Professor...we won't...encounter...] Xian's chubby face appeared on the screen. She looked puzzled after hearing Sun Yang's description.
"How could such a large creature inhabit a volcano? It's straight out of a fantasy. But the professor's world is already fantastical. Hmm... the typical response is to wear professional hazmat suits and wield a harpoon gun. No one would design a humanoid capable of handling both extreme environments and fighting creatures."
"Can we make a body puppet similar to Xian, and have it remotely controlled by a humanoid figure who is good at fighting? I remember that Xian's three-defense system is quite reliable. Then Xian can remotely provide his own experience at the same time." Sun Yang proposed a plan.
"Why are you beating around the bush? Why not just let Xian go? She'll definitely cry if she hears you won't let her go." Delacourt looked puzzled.
[I didn't cry.] Xian said, puffing up his cheeks.
"Well, first of all, I don't know Xian's combat experience. I am very clear about her surveying ability, but combat and surveying have nothing to do with each other, right? Sending Xian there would be like asking her to commit suicide." Sun Yang explained to Xian.
"I have plenty of combat experience! I can prepare immediately!" Xian said firmly.
"Professor, aren't you talking about your experience in Xi'an? You were the one commanding the battle... Is it that curse? The curse of memory loss?" Drase suddenly realized.
"I know what it's like to fight in a digital environment, but the real environment is very different from the simulated one. Is that okay? Besides, you're alone, and there's no one to look after you."
[Weapon experience, combat experience, is very important. I am very skilled. Professor, please let me go.] Xian has already started to pack up his equipment.
"Okay, Drasay, could you please prepare Xian for me? I'll tell Pascal, and let me know when you're ready." Sun Yang turned his attention to the other screens.
[Leave it to me.] Drasay and Xian's profile pictures vanished, and Sun Yang quickly sent a message to Pascal. He looked back at Team 404. They were still reliable in less extreme conditions. Beyond the inquiry, there wasn't much else he needed to focus on.
Xi'an prepared quickly. In less than ten minutes, she was dressed in polar combat gear, harpoon gun in hand, ready. Sun Yang shook the bell in his hand, and her figure appeared beside him.
M14 glanced at it warily, and only continued to look forward after confirming that it was a friendly signal.
There is no need to worry about the concentration value. Sun Yang can just eat some grass. This thing is not delicious, but it can indeed restore mental strength.
[Professor.] Xian saluted. After the humanoids at Oasis Base learned that Sun Yang was also the commander of Griffin, some of them changed their attitude slightly, but the title remained the same.
Sun Yang put down the spicy fried peanuts in his hand (among the many foods provided by the agent, Sun Yang was currently enjoying them with a guilty conscience). He explained the route to Xian and told him as much information as he could.
Xian nodded and quickly descended the vertical ladder to the bottom of the fortress, entering the scorching cave. Although the temperature was extremely high, Xian, wearing professional clothing and specially designed equipment, simply glanced at the data, which showed that it was not at a dangerous level.
The fire lizards in the cave twisted their bodies slowly, and they immediately saw Xi'an walking in wearing strange clothes. Without a second thought, the brainless fire lizards spit out a fireball.
Xian dodged nimbly. She had heard from others that this world was very magical. Her clothes and body could withstand the environment, but if they blocked the fireball, she might turn into a ball of burning metal garbage.
She didn't give the salamander a chance to spit again. While the salamander was brewing flames and raising its head to prepare for another spit, Xian used all her strength to thrust the harpoon forward, and the sharp fork pierced a large part of its chin.
The fire lizard's body stiffened instantly, and then it fell to the side with a series of convulsions.
Huh? Is this the end? Is that skin so easily broken? Sun Yang was shocked.
[Professor, can you peel it?] Xian asked after pulling out the fork.
"Skinning? Lizard's?" Sun Yang quickly recovered.
"Excellent insulation, excellent hardness. Lizards, we shouldn't kill them all," Xian said excitedly. She poked the lizard's back and head with her harpoon, requiring considerable force to penetrate even slightly. The hardness was sufficient. The skin on its belly and abdomen was acceptable, but not as good as the back.
Of course, you can, just sit on the fire and it will spawn. But let's be honest, the Oasis base hasn't been processed yet, so taking it back will just have to wait in line for research. Forget it, I can just take it back and dissect it and research it later, the Salamander won't run away.
"Then keep it for now. You drag the body out and I will send a team to retrieve it. You continue exploring. Salamanders should avoid fighting if possible." Sun Yang sighed deeply after he finished speaking.
This fire lizard is a truly terrible monster in Dark Souls 2. It has ridiculously high health and is incredibly resilient, easily knocking half the health off an undead with a single move. It can also flick its tongue to interrupt combos, swiping forward without forward swaying, and spitting flames. The fireballs it spews from its mouth are truly incredible; without a fire resistance buff, you'll be wiped out in one hit.
Xi'an was instantly killed in one blow. Perhaps this is the difference between games and the real world. In games, players can't kill an object by stabbing it with a rapier. What kind of creature are you? Even with a hole in its head, it still won't die.
"It's so heavy." Xian struggled to drag the salamander's corpse over. It took a lot of effort. There was no other way; no one could help in this horrible situation. Sun Yang also moved his legs and feet, climbing the ladder to the bottom. Otherwise, the salamander wouldn't be able to be brought up; it was too much effort.
When Sun Yang reached the bottom floor, he felt the heat wave. He quickly threw the hot fire lizard back into the warehouse and ran back to the tower.
Xian reentered the door, carefully avoiding the salamanders as he advanced. While the cave wasn't small, its structure wasn't complex. He retrieved a few souls, a few stone materials, a ring, and a strangely shaped iron block, finally returning with a shield on his back.
The remaining fire lizards moved slowly inside, with no sign of repeating the dragon chariot during the battle.
Meanwhile, Team 404 completed their exploration mission and collected all the parts that looked useful.
The time was adjusted slightly forward. While 404 was exploring each floor one by one, the rebellious team was also continuing their exploration.
The rebellious team was equally efficient. They accidentally walked to the place where the stone sword split the city wall and killed all the defenders there.
But Sun Yang looked at the map and asked them to go somewhere else, because the AR team would soon leave from there, and if the disobedient team went there, it would cause overlap in the mission coverage.
Without much ado, the rebellious team immediately changed direction. After turning a few corners, they arrived at a platform. The strange design of this place forced AK12 to pull out his tablet to check the map several times. This castle was incredibly complex.
Weapons and boxes were stacked in the corner of the platform, and next to it was a large, pitch-black metal door. Beneath the door stood a Zain warrior, wearing heavy plate armor and holding a large sword in one hand and a rectangular shield. His appearance was somewhat similar to the two statues on the beach.
Seeing someone approach, the warrior skillfully raised his shield and trotted over. The rebellious squad immediately dispersed, firing from different directions. The Zain warriors' armor was incredibly strong, and the assault rifle bullets only dented it, sending sparks flying.
Seeing this, AK15 replaced the magazine and fired again. This time the effect was very good, the bullets left dozens of holes in the armor, and the Zain warrior fell down instantly.
"The assault rifle is not very effective?" Sun Yang asked.
[It's decent against ordinary bullets, but not armor-piercing rounds. This is medieval, after all, so it's pretty good. 94, time to blow the door.] AK12 pulled out plastic explosives and affixed them to the metal door and the adjacent wall, preparing to blow it open. AK15, meanwhile, went to collect items, asking Sun Yang if he wanted to take them.
However, the only useful items here were the corpse of a Zain warrior, a uniquely shaped lance, and dusk grass, which no one except Sun Yang could use. AK15 continued his movement, carrying the lance on his back.
