"You seem to prefer staying in a place where you can enjoy yourself rather than working hard. But you have a mission, a mission that drives you to other worlds. I want to know what drives you to do this."

After thinking for a moment, Sun Yang told everything he knew about the Girls Frontline world, what that M4 had told him, and...that he was not from this world.

Rukatiye is trustworthy, so trust her to the end. Sun Yang's heart was beating fast. She was a human after all, no matter how weird her mind was. She wouldn't be loyal to him forever like most humanoids.

"So your goal is to accumulate strength, then crush the powerful forces in another world, and save many people? Am I right in understanding this?" Rukatiye, who was not very intelligent, summarized it simply and roughly.

"That's not a misunderstanding." Although it is complicated to implement and there are many unpredictable situations, Sun Yang slowly accumulated technology.

"Then leave it to me, Rukatiye. It is also the wife's responsibility to share the pressure with her husband! If there is something, we will handle it together! Of course, you have to help me handle it if I have something to do." Rukatiye sounded quite excited.

"I thought we have always been like this." Sun Yang said.

"Then let me emphasize this again. I need to rest now. Call me if you need anything."

"See you later." As soon as Sun Yang finished speaking, Rukatiye hung up the phone.

Sun Yang had no choice but to shrug helplessly and continue to practice new magic with Strade who had been left aside for a long time.

475 Incarnation Project

After two weeks of hard work, the scientific research team led by Taigen finally completed the analysis of the results obtained from the two operations.

"First, there's the enclosed biohazard suit we recovered from the Black Site coordinates. In the stasis armor components we recovered from the Mutant Forge facility, we discovered some kind of humanoid tissue. Could this be a new type of mutant soldier? A never-before-seen alien creature? Judging by the level of security protecting this component, it must be very important to aliens, but a thorough analysis is needed to determine its ultimate purpose." Tegan summoned XCOM's executives and scientists to explain what he had discovered.

"I've long suspected that the materials found at the First Mutant Black Site were connected to the aliens' activities at the Forge, so I wasn't surprised when we finally got our hands on these 'products'. The item is preserved in some kind of stasis or storage suit, just as it was when we found the Commander, in humanoid form."

"However, the superficial similarities are less obvious upon second inspection, as the species is clearly in an 'unfinished' state. I initially suspected it might be the product of a cloning project. Unfortunately, after completing comprehensive DNA testing, I believe cloning pales in comparison. We have actually discovered a 'matrix', a basic structure that can be used by new life. If we had not interfered with its development process, it would have become a new life."

"After learning about the aliens' activities in the Black Site, I've come to an unfortunate conclusion: the human captives are simply experimental subjects and consumables in the development of this species. In particular, the human genetic material used here comes from people who are highly sensitive to psychic powers. This is undoubtedly intentional. Regardless, the only question left is, what is the missing component? What genetic component is required for this creature to be alive?"

Taigen presented more PowerPoint presentations. After the Black Site Coordinates mission was completed, a team led by the powerful Rukatiye attacked the coordinates in the original text's mind—the location of a still-functioning psychic gate.

After the battle, XCOM had a wealth of research material. The psychic portal itself, the white sphere that emerged from it, and the white-haired humanoid that had invaded the original's head—all of these needed to be investigated.

The white spheres are the fastest-investigating event. These spheres are called gatekeepers by researchers, as no one knows their exact ethnic language, but they do emerge from psychic portals.

However, ultimately, only the runes on their shells were revealed to possess the ability to effectively amplify psychic energy. As for the origin of the enormous psychic energy within the fleshy orb itself, no one knew.

"Let me tell you about this humanoid creature. In fact, I believe we have discovered the secrets of the Elders, the truth behind the Avatar Project, and the purpose of this stasis armor. This is all thanks to our DNA expert, Ms. Hollis."

Tegan patted the body shot through the neck and nodded to a petite, blue-haired woman in the corner. But she just shrank back nervously, as if trying to shrink herself into the stool. There were too many people here, and she wasn't used to this kind of environment.

"So what does this incarnation project say? Tegan, I feel similar psychic wavelengths in this corpse and the stasis armor." Commander Lena sat in the middle with a big sword, urging Tegan to continue explaining.

"These avatars are the product of combining human and mutant genes. They are androgynous, wearing heavy armor and purple masks, with white hair floating in the air."

"Commander, the answer is... the white-haired psionic creatures we encountered were avatars. Avatars are carefully tuned genetic products that can be cloned—although their creation and maintenance require considerable resources. And what is contained within this stasis armor is the foundation of all avatars. Or the Primarch."

Teigen explained in detail.

"Primarch?" Crouch's expression became visibly strange when she heard the word. Then she quickly realized it wasn't the same thing. This was simply the genetically original version.

"While it's important, it's not as important as you think. The aliens must have built many original versions like this one, and we just stole one. Ms. Croce, this doesn't mean the aliens can't create new incarnations. As long as the aliens have enough resources, they can continue to do so."

Tegan thought Kroc was overjoyed, so he poured cold water on her.

"Let me put it this way, Elder. The aliens have been dealing with us for over twenty years, all for the purpose of creating these avatars. And the reason they created the avatars is because they suffer from a disease that plagues them."

"The elders seem to have suffered from a severe tissue degeneration, their muscles atrophying at an unimaginable rate."

Teigen gushed out the truth.

"So they're dying. Sounds like our job is a lot easier," the military officer said and continued listening.

"For centuries, the Elders have been trying to find a way to heal themselves. Every time they encounter a new species, they absorb the genetic information and materials they need, and then move on to the next planet, until now."

XCOM has always been fighting against a mess of aliens. Those aliens have different life forms and fighting methods, and some cannot even survive in the earth environment.

These alien forces are the alien races captured by the elders in the past. They were adjusted and cloned through genetic technology and then sent to Earth to fight against the humans.

"And here, those aliens discovered psychic talents from us, from humans. This allowed them to take root on Earth for over twenty years. The data in the vial in the Black Land is a record of their crimes."

"They possess powerful psychic powers, but their bodies have decayed. These avatars are the new bodies they have prepared. The avatar we encountered was most likely possessed by an elder and used for combat. The avatar is now capable of combat."

After Tegan finished speaking, the atmosphere in the entire venue became very depressing. After a while, Delacour asked with concern.

"So we've lost? The aliens have already completed the creation of the avatar without us even noticing. Are we about to face a real alien counterattack?"

"Hmm? That's not the case," Tegan grabbed a glass of water and drank it in one gulp. He was just a little thirsty from what he was saying. "According to Ms. Hallis, the research on the avatar is not yet complete. There are still many loopholes and gaps in the genetic sequence. The avatar is still incomplete. Those ethereal elders can possess different bodies, so this is just a test for the elders."

"That's why we were able to defeat him. The DNA of humans and elders in this species is almost perfectly integrated, but it's not complete. The psychic potential in the body has not yet been fully activated." Tegan said and took another sip of water.

"Don't breathe heavily when you speak, just finish it in one go." Commander Lena said a little annoyed.

"Anyway, we still have some time. Our informant in the Earth Council has been providing us with intelligence. Based on our information, he has learned about the progress of the Avatar Project. According to the information, the Black Earth vial we initially obtained was originally intended to fill the gaps in the DNA of the artificial Avatar, but because we took the sample, the aliens' progress was halted for a long time."

After Tegan finished her report, she found a chair and sat down.

"Looks like I still have some time to wreak havoc on the aliens and hone our team. I remember you were also simultaneously testing the psychic gate. Any progress?"

Commander Lunna turned her gaze to Shen Lili and Kroki. One was XCOM's chief engineer, the other a powerful foreign aid. Although this foreign aid was difficult to talk to, her ability was unquestionable.

"We activated the psychic gate by connecting the original brain to the drone and let the drone enter the gate. As for the results, I have bad news and good news. Let me tell you the good news first." Shen Lili stood up to explain.

"The good news is that the psychic portal we seized is functioning normally. We can even see the alien forces deployed in various places through the psychic portal. This makes it easier for us to carry out deployment work."

"Oh? Doesn't that mean we can rush into the aliens' homeland right now? That's really good news." Commander Lena showed a bloodthirsty smile.

"The bad news is that in addition to conventional electrical signal recognition, the psychic gate also has a layer of organic signal verification. If these data cannot be provided, the psychic gate will generate a backlash pulse to destroy the entering unit. This organic signal is the key to our entry into the psychic gate." Shen Lili waved her hands helplessly.

"And we have just mastered the key to this organic signal." Taigen took over Shen Lili's words.

"Huh? That's really a surprise." Shen Lili glanced at Taigen.

"We have completed the DNA analysis of the Avatar...Thank you again to Ms. Hallis for your assistance. The Avatar has been confirmed to have the genetic sequence that can pass through psychics." Tegan reported proudly.

"It seems we can completely stop this incarnation plan." Commander Lena crossed her legs, and the expression on her face turned from worry to joy.

“However, a genetic data set alone isn’t enough to pass through the portal. The sequence is only part of the organism, and the key only works with the signal – we need a living avatar to open the portal,” Teigen explained.

"So we have to kidnap an avatar to open the door?" Commander Lunna was a little worried. "What does our intelligence network say..."

"No." Antonina, who was sitting next to her, said briefly.

"You didn't even look..." Commander Lena was about to say something when she saw a cable on Antonina's belly.

"Indeed, there isn't one." Antonina said that if there wasn't one, no one would be able to find it.

Huh? It seems like I'm surrounded by Sun Yang's T-dolls. My team seems to have even fewer T-dolls than them. Commander Lunna feels something's amiss. Is this really XCOM? Not Sun Yang's base? Why are there so many T-dolls?

"It's already difficult to find them, let alone capture them without killing them under that kind of psychic attack. It will take a long time and result in the loss of many people." The military officer scratched his head in annoyance after hearing the news.

"That part isn't a problem," Tegan said calmly.

"'I knew Tegan had a way! He's worthy of being the chief scientist, Tegan! Nothing can stop him!' I relayed what our professor had said before. If he didn't say it here, he would definitely be in agony and go crazy."

Antonina suddenly stood up and danced for a moment, then sat down calmly, as if nothing had happened. Commander Lunna felt firsthand the difference between humans and humanoids. What humans couldn't do, humanoids could do with ease.

"Oh, well, thank you Sun Yangjiao... Commander. We have in fact obtained the required genetic blueprint from this deceased Avatar, and we have already obtained an unaltered Avatar template from the Forge."

"Combine them with the genetic material we recovered in the Black Land, and we should be able to reproduce the whole process." Tegan was very pleased with the praise and looked very happy.

"Then what's the problem?" Commander Lena felt that this was a done deal, very simple.

"There's a problem. Without the elders' consciousness to drive it, the new incarnation will be as lifeless as this body. Although I can create a body, I can't create a mind to drive it."

Tegan said as he pulled the avatar's arm. It had been dismembered into pieces, but Tegan remained calm, as if he was facing pork.

"Creating a body but not retaining consciousness? What an amazing technology." Crochet thought of the synthetic human body that was developed in the Oasis base.

After all, the manufacturing and development of humanoid bodies have not yet delved into whether the body can develop independent consciousness.

During the birth process, the circuit components will be installed in the head of the body to facilitate the humanoid to instill information into it.

This research was expressly prohibited by Sun Yang. He did not want the human form to become something strange, and creating a synthetic human body was the limit of what he could accept.

"The elder's consciousness?" The military officer and Shen Lili subconsciously looked at Commander Lena who was sitting in the middle.

"In fact, there is no problem in remotely controlling this body through the psychic network, but connecting to the psychic network without modification will cause irreversible damage to the human body. However, some of us did survive after connecting to the psychic network." Tegan looked at Commander Lena meaningfully.

"You mean to let the commander... You said there's no risk, right? Can't I go?" The military officer frowned.

"When we found the commander and rescued her, we collected her customized stasis armor. The psychic network on the stasis armor was well preserved. The commander is the best choice." Tai argued with reason.

"Okay, stop arguing. Military officer, don't worry too much about this. I don't need the psychic network and nothing will happen. I will use my avatar to carry out the battle. Don't underestimate me."

"Tegan, prepare the artificial avatar. Military officer, we may be about to engage in a decisive battle, so lead the troops to intensify their training. Lily, I need more elite weapons to distribute to the trustworthy warriors. Tegan, you've worked really hard, so take a good rest these days."

Commander Lena gave orders in an orderly manner, and the entire XCOM began to move.

476 The Eve of the Decisive Battle

XCOM did not restrain its forces, but instead increased the frequency of its attacks. However, compared with the past, they used more new recruits and less experienced soldiers.

These soldiers' combat skills are not very advanced, but with better equipment and courage, the recruits can often achieve good results.

Overwatch and WAR armor, plasma weapons, and smart grenade launchers. These weapons were already superior to most alien equipment. After all, the alien forces didn't have these amazing smart weapons in their inventory. Even if they tried to capture them, the weapons would explode if they detected non-human genes.

Of course, this also means that the skirmishers - the rebellious mutants' troops - cannot be equipped with this weapon. However, the Griffin humanoids do not intend to modify this. Compared with the inconvenience of the skirmishers, it is more important to prevent the technology from being leaked.

These smart grenades and their associated launchers were uniformly supplied by the holographic fabrication machine housed within the XCOM spacecraft. While this was somewhat inconvenient when supplying the rebels, it was tolerable to prevent aliens from learning how to use these powerful weapons.

In addition to these amazing weapons, the surviving Iron Blood and the newly created SPARK robots also joined the battle. In each battle, XCOM would send a SPARK or Iron Blood puppet to escort.

The heavy firepower and scanning capabilities provided by these robots greatly increased the survival rate of the recruits. Recruits often relied on the robots' powerful firepower as a fulcrum, using various reconnaissance and strike drones for harassment and reconnaissance, and defeating the enemy through smart grenades and close-range assaults.

XCOM, with its psychic portal, is frantically spying on the aliens' deployments, specifically targeting the weaker alien forces.

This high-intensity harassment successfully made the aliens uncomfortable. After losing the mothership, three chosen ones and a large number of biochemical factories, the elders tried to speed up the advancement of the incarnation. However, the advancement required a large amount of DNA from different humans.

City residents hear spokespersons touting the benefits of genetic clinics day and night, but at the same time, they see more and more neighbors missing and being arrested.

The morale of the people in the city was wavering. Despite the propaganda on TV, many people had actually started to attack the alien forces, and cities were plunged into riots. The alien forces were mobilized to suppress these civilians.

Often at this time, XCOM's troops would descend from the sky, cooperate with the agents hidden in the city and the local resistance forces to kill all the alien troops who came to suppress them, and then distribute the ammunition on the spacecraft and join forces with the resistance forces to fight for control of the city.

Cities gradually fell into chaos, and in those chaotic cities, genetic clinics were smashed and destroyed.

However, because the aliens had transformed all cities into psychic networks, the riots in many cities remained hidden from the public eye. Residents of other cities continued to live in a state of confusion, listening to the increasingly passionate speeches of the press spokespersons. The Earth Council, long a puppet of the mutant government, continued to mobilize resources to deal with various troubles.

The aliens' twenty years of hard work were not in vain. Many high-ranking officials on Earth had long been accustomed to their comfortable positions and had no hesitation in helping the aliens suppress their compatriots.

Twenty years are enough to kill all the government personnel who still have a rebellious mentality. Only one of them remains inside and provides XCOM with various strategic intelligence.

However, thanks to Antonina's activeness, this high-level informant didn't have to risk revealing any intelligence. He only needed to report the communication interface, and Antonina took care of the rest. The aliens only knew that XCOM had a particularly powerful hacker who used his computing power to crack the program. They had no suspicions about Earth's top brass and could only upgrade their firewalls as much as possible.

Under these circumstances, the aliens' attempts to recruit more people would be tantamount to playing with fire. Simply calling for admission to the genetic clinic wouldn't be fast enough, and direct action would only invite attacks from local citizens, who would then unleash the Resistance and XCOM fighters, armed with a variety of terrifying weaponry.

The rebels and XCOM knew exactly what the aliens were trying to do. When the aliens were gathering their forces, the rebels were already prepared for battle. XCOM saw through the psychic portal that the aliens were gathering troops and decisively sent a team armed to the teeth to rush over.

These people have gone from being sustainable leeks to hot potatoes straight out of the oven. If you want to eat them, you either have to wait for them to cool down or your mouth will be soaked. And most of the time, the aliens probably won't get anything to eat. Their individual firepower is no match for XCOM.

As for those settlements surviving in the wilderness and unwilling to enter the cities, the aliens are completely helpless. Previously, when XCOM dealt with the three Chosen Ones, the alien forces were severely defeated. It hasn't been that long now, and they're still being defeated. It's not like the alien forces are suddenly exploding. Their equipment hasn't been upgraded, and their people haven't become stronger.

Even with better training, fighting the Iron Golems would be basically the same. A soldier with a rifle fighting a T800 wouldn't benefit from an extra month of training, especially since these mutants controlled by the psionic network don't have very good brains.

The elders also attempted to upgrade the aliens' equipment, but resources were limited. They couldn't efficiently upgrade their equipment while simultaneously capturing humans to advance their plans. If the entire world needed to upgrade, the distribution alone would be a major headache.

If supplies are transported through a psychic portal, they will be raided by a team sent by XCOM near the portal.

XCOM's fighters don't fight to the death. They often pull out their rocket launchers, use SPARKs, Iron Golems, and drones to destroy the supply from a distance, and then fly away, leaving only the alien troops trembling in the explosion.

It would be even better if they didn't have to go through the psionic gate. The rebels could just cut off the railway, and XCOM could send in a random attack, killing all the defenders, and then all the supplies would belong to them and XCOM.

The rebels might even follow the clues and find the weapons manufacturing plant. Within two days, two teams would fly over and destroy the entire factory. They would gather up the remaining resources, take what they could, and blow up what they couldn't.

The weapons can't keep up, the troops can't win, and the alien troops have now become popular simply by relying on their large size.

At this point, the aliens could only rely on those cities that had a favorable impression of the Elders and were extremely loyal to them to provide them with data. The names and deeds of these cities were repeatedly promoted by the mutant government, trying to convince other cities to honorably enter the gene clinic and repair their genes.

However, there were very few people who responded, and many of those who did were paid by the mutant government or were simply relatives of high-ranking officials. These people naturally went there, and the mutants couldn't do anything to them.

After all, arresting relatives of high-ranking officials would completely paralyze the mutant government. Alien operations have often relied on a team of traitors. If these high-ranking officials abandoned their responsibilities, not only would the Avatar Project not be advanced, the entire surface system would likely be paralyzed.

This is also why the top brass is so confident. As long as they don't mess around, these aliens will rely on them to operate. It would be great if both sides could just keep their distance and fight XCOM together.

However, the aliens are now in a precarious position. XCOM's intense guerrilla warfare and the Elders' urgent need to accelerate avatar research have led to an increasing frequency of combat on Earth.
