To be honest, it's a bit difficult. It would be better to just find a group of people in this world to build the framework of the production base. The world of the end of the United States is no different from the normal Earth except that the fungi are a bit too strong.
The humanoids love fresh vegetables, and the vendors in the Kenshi world won't refuse these vitamin-rich vegetables. These survivors can also escape hunger and danger. It's a win-win situation no matter how you look at it.
"Agricultural planting? I can't make the decision on this. I have to go back and inform them... How did you transport so many medical equipment and personnel in?" The Asian man looked like he wanted to leave.
"I have a working vehicle. Don't worry about how we transport him. I've finished the surgery, and the patient needs a few days to stabilize. When the storm stops, I'll go back to the base with you. You can bring some people over to take the patient away, and I'll talk to your mayor."
"Okay, but you can only go alone and you can't bring weapons," said the Asian man.
"No problem." Despite the protests from the humanoids on the communication channel, Sun Yang shrugged his shoulders calmly. The broken guns in the hands of these survivors probably wouldn't be able to penetrate his armor. At worst, he could just turn them into shotguns.
If only one person went, there wouldn't be any problem. The Asian men agreed to let Sun Yang go to their camp, and the Jewish lesbian volunteered to stay behind to guard it.
"That doesn't matter, but you'd better not do any tricks. I don't mind letting them practice on you again." Sun Yang gave a final warning and then followed the Asian men to their camp.
The man was quite taciturn, perhaps because there were so many unusual things about Sun Yang. How could someone just happen to save someone and still run around with a bunch of highly specialized doctors and equipment? Was this some kind of charity?
Regardless, he had already brought Sun Yang to the large camp next to the dam station. The Asian man asked Sun Yang to wait at the door for a while while he went in to report to the others.
Sun Yang took a look at the main base's plantings, mainly to share his experience with others later.
Simply put, it's highly automated greenhouse cultivation. Various drones and automated management equipment can eliminate a considerable amount of repetitive work. Yabu Haru, who's in charge of this, can easily come up with a plan tailored to the local environment.
Even with the high degree of automation, people still need to be dispatched when things go wrong. Repairs are common, and it's not uncommon for drone programs to encounter errors and require repairs. There isn't much heavy or physical labor involved, but there are plenty of small, detailed tasks.
Currently, Yabuharu is able to manage the work by enlisting the help of a few random agents. However, if the farmland she manages were to expand tenfold, she would need even more manpower. The agents' intelligence is barely adequate; they can follow orders, but they are not very agile in handling emergencies on their own.
If you think about it that way, it would be better to offload these tasks to the humans here. At least if a human sees something broken, they'll bring their tools to fix it. The AI will probably report and ask for instructions first, then follow a pre-determined route to retrieve the tools and repair it. That's how it's programmed.
After Sun Yang had barely grasped the entire process, from planting the seeds to preserving the finished product, a message came from inside the door. About a dozen people rode out on horses. The leader addressed Sun Yang.
"Sir! Our leader welcomes you and your team here. We can pick up your people. Can you give me a token of gratitude?"
"Just give this to them." Sun Yang took out a mottled gold coin from the office and handed it to the leader, then told the dolls about the matter.
Then, under the guidance of the guide in the camp, he went to find the actual leader of the town.
The actual leaders of this town are a woman named Maria and Tommy, but Tommy was injured, so she sent people in the town to bring back the three dead bodies.
Sun Yang had someone check at the door, but no weapons were found. The town couldn't say anything about his clothes, so they just let him walk into the town wearing heavy armor.
The town was bustling with people doing their jobs. Maria had arranged it in an orderly manner, and those who had free time could pursue hobbies or something. It looked very safe.
I just don't know if these people can work for me. They seem to be living quite well, so I need to offer them something else to make them willingly work for me...
Speaking of which, there should be mechanical limbs in the Kenshi world, right? I'd love to see them modified and installed on people with injured limbs who've had to undergo amputation. And my medical technology here would surely impress the people here.
Sun Yang pondered these thoughts as he followed his guide to a restaurant. It was noon, and many people were eating. A middle-aged woman, looking capable, sat at one of the tables, nibbling at her food. She looked up at the people around Sun Yang and waved. The guide led Sun Yang to her side.
"Thank you, Malik. Go eat something and drink some hot soup." The woman in front of him sent the person away and turned to Sun Yang again.
"Good afternoon, my name is Sun Yang. What's your name?" Sun Yang sat on the chair, and the chair made a slightly ominous sound.
"You can call me Maria. Tell me what happened to Tommy first." Maria took a sip of hot water and looked at the man in front of her cautiously.
"He was hit on the head a few times. I asked my people to treat him. He's not in serious trouble. But his brother, Joel, was shot in the knee by a shotgun. He's probably unusable." Sun Yang pointed to the head.
"Huh...that's good, thank you for your help, Sun Yang. But I guess these are not free." Maria leaned back in her chair, looking a little tired.
"Of course not. I plan to build an automated agricultural and animal husbandry production base here. I need your townspeople to be responsible for the production process."
Sun Yang did not intend to do charity. The vegetables and meat produced here could be sold in the KENSHI world in exchange for various local metal deposits, or he could hire powerful adventurers to bring back things like ancient science books or intelligent cores.
If you can delegate production tasks to others, do so. Your own dolls should just be responsible for the more important things. If they are not responsible for important things, just keep them at home and play. In short, you cannot work hard to reclaim wasteland in the base.
"Automated production base? Are you kidding? Do you think this is the United States of twenty years ago? I don't have so many technicians to build a base. No one knows how to do this." Maria shook her head and said.
"No, no, no, you misunderstood. I'll build this production base. I can also provide the initial seeds. I'll also have a fully automated irrigation system, using drones to quickly monitor the vegetable growth and the daily environment, and provide a reasonable plan. There's basically no human involvement in the entire process."
"Okay, this sounds like a fairy tale, go on. What are my people going to do in there?" Maria was a little confused. This level of technology was probably not popular in the United States back then.
"Your staff will need to learn the necessary knowledge to maintain drones, inspect crops for problems, and understand regulations and procedures. I will also build a warehouse large enough to store the harvested food. I'll have someone specifically responsible for training. I'll be building while you learn."
"The final product will be split 50-50. If you feel that the product is too much to eat, I can also exchange it with you for other things."
Sun Yang spoke with great fanfare, but Maria frowned. How could such a good thing fall from the sky? A 50-50 split, with guaranteed instruction? Didn't it mean that all she had to do was provide the manpower?
"I need you to explain it in more detail. My people only need to learn from you and then do the work. When the harvest comes, I can get half of it. Are you planning to build a comprehensive factory from scratch next to the camp? I don't need to do anything else?" Maria asked.
"In the beginning, it was only the size of a farm, with only a few dozen people in the early stage. However, I am expanding very quickly, and in less than a year, I should need several hundred people to run the business. Oh, by the way, we only work six hours a day, with two days off a week, and provide food and accommodation. We also provide free medical services, including to the immediate family members of employees." Sun Yang thought about it and threw these conditions in.
"...Even 20 years ago, this was a pretty good job. Of course, the premise is that you can build it. I personally think it's possible, but I need to discuss it with the people. Do you have engineering drawings or something like that?"
Sun Yang tossed a document over to Maria, who flipped through it casually, unable to understand anything.
There are not many highly educated people in the town, most of them are rough and unsophisticated, and their agriculture is also mediocre.
In fact, if they had not stored enough food in the fall, everyone in the town would be starving now, and the simple vegetable greenhouses in the town would not be able to solve this problem.
Food is the key to people's survival.
Maria flipped through the book casually and felt she had no clue. She could only ask Sun Yang to stay in the town for one night and make a decision after discussing it with a group of people.
That's fine, though. No one's going there for the food. Sun Yang had already pulled up Shuchun's plan and was preparing to move a bunch of drones and production equipment over. It's just like building a skyscraper on flat ground. I'll just enclose a piece of land and build it for you.
50 I will start the infrastructure construction
The rest of the matter was much easier. The medical figures carried the three bandaged men back to the town. Sun Yang had even kindly asked Maria for a room to provide free medical care for the residents for a day, and any injuries or discomfort could be provided with medicine.
This move quickly won the favor of the people in the small town. Modern medicine relies on the chemical industry and lacks the corresponding industrial capacity. The effective medicines are used in small amounts. When the medicines are used up, people can only find folk remedies to treat the wounds themselves, and then whether they can heal depends on God.
Regardless of anything else, Sun Yang has enough medicine. Thanks to the machines in the base, all the medicines needed for common diseases can be produced.
Despite all this, Sun Yang had no intention of managing the town. He'd just leave that responsibility to Maria, and as long as production continued and work schedules adhered to, that was all that mattered. Whether you wanted to go hunting or fight, Sun Yang didn't care.
When Ellie was carried back, she still wanted to settle the score with Sun Yang, but she had been persuaded to go back by a large group of people. If they fought again, who would treat them?
Maria and the people in charge of the town quickly came to a conclusion. They agreed to let Sun Yang build a factory nearby, but the security personnel had to be from the town.
Sun Yang said that this was no problem, you guys are responsible for security, and I can save some effort.
Soon, detailed rules and regulations were drawn up, including various assessment systems (mainly to check whether the actual operation clock can handle problems), etc. Although it should not be so hasty, Maria and Tommy both have long-term management experience, so these things are not difficult to manage.
But they were still very curious about where Sun Yang had transferred these production equipment from. In this remote place, the man in front of them had to use his head to transport these things in.
"Well, I'm the one who built the house. Why are you always worrying about this? Hurry up and select the people. I'm going to get to work." Sun Yang settled the humanoids in a place, ran to the outside of the hydropower station and started throwing things out.
Various infrastructure materials, drones and remote-controlled tractors were pulled out. Because of Sun Yang's own attributes, the humanoids could directly remotely control these machines to work in the base.
But operating construction machinery is one thing, controlling a puppet in battle from across the world is another. In humanoid terms, operating it from across the world is like using a controller. It's fine for a tractor, but it's completely inadequate for combat.
Within a few days of arriving at Jackson Dam Station, the factory had already taken shape. Sun Yang had already called out Shu Chun, asking her to teach those with a bit of mechanics to avoid being clueless right after entering the factory.
In the past few days, Sun Yang has been paying attention to the construction status of KENSHI, the progress of missions in Chicago and Detroit, and the construction process of the agricultural base here.
While common vegetables were available at the Oasis Base, the variety was limited, and there were no livestock-related resources. While Yabuharu knew how automated animal husbandry was done and what was required, the livestock recovered from the Oasis Base might not survive back in Meimo.
The Oasis base had already begun to flourish after the site was selected, and with the arrival of engineering vehicles from the End of America, progress had accelerated. The agent and Pascal were negotiating the gradual construction of a large market along a major transportation route.
Of course, during the construction process, Sun Yang's window also changed slightly. The selection range of the window was gradually expanding, and the original main base had a layer of glowing outline, within which Sun Yang could move the position of the supplies inside at will.
At the same time, Sun Yang's window has an additional layer. The first layer is the KENSHI world view, which is the world where the main base is located. The second layer is the view of the agricultural base under construction, which also has an outline.
In the view, Sun Yang could clearly see that the construction machinery was leveling the land and constructing various panels. Among them was a small dot of light, which was himself.
The assembly under construction also has this outline. It seems that as long as the facility is large enough, it will be judged as a base by the window system and can be controlled by itself.
Sun Yang helped out when he had nothing to do, and took the supplies from the main base to the end of the world, and then sent them to the gathering place that was under construction, saving a long distance.
Sun Yang thought, "I can now freely allocate supplies in various worlds." Logically, the Dark Souls world should also be marked in the window, but he didn't have a base there, and even if he did, it might be destroyed in a fire.
Never mind. Let's see what we've found at the Oasis base. Ever since construction began, passing merchants have cautiously engaged with the AI responsible for the gathering.
It was said that the reason no one had built a supply station along this long stretch of road was because of the dangerous creatures that inhabited the area, such as herds of beaked beasts that occasionally passed through. Caravans could also detect these terrifying beasts from a distance and avoid them in advance.
But a small station can't grow long. The beaked beasts will tear it down and eat everyone inside. This place is too far away from the major forces, and the environment is very dangerous, so the major forces are unwilling to build a supply station here.
But now someone is planning to build a wall here, and the caravans naturally smelled a business opportunity and came here happily to do business.
Anyone with a discerning eye could see that a very powerful individual was planning a major gathering, and he was very determined. Businessmen couldn't afford to miss this opportunity.
As for why the AI was doing the work, Sun Yang asked around and no one wanted to do it. They were incredibly busy all day, probably dealing with trivial matters all the time, so it was best to leave it to the AI. It was expected that only small groups of humanoids would be stationed here on a rotating basis.
In short, the main base tracked the caravan's route and roughly figured out what the local prices were like. The AI sold some medicine and mass-produced weapons, exchanged them for a few animals, and tried to raise them at the gathering.
Of course, Sun Yang also took advantage of the absence of merchants to try to pull the animals up or pull them to Meimo's world. Unfortunately, Sun Yang couldn't pull living creatures to other worlds, but simply picking them up was no problem.
Although I don’t know the specific principle, I can only sell fresh cold meat from now on.
Progress in Chicago and Detroit was slow, but it wasn't their fault. It was good enough that two humanoid teams without supplies could slowly gather what they needed.
From the time Sun Yang left Detroit to the time he started the major construction in Jackson, both Team Somi and Team Palette found a lot of interesting things.
Suomi followed the map's index and browsed through every kind of store in Chicago: game stores, music stores, record stores, bars, karaoke bars, gold shops, restaurants, bookstores, and so on—just like reporting the names of dishes, he visited them all.
"To be honest, I feel like I'm playing "Someone's Creed", the kind where you collect all the games." This was the first sentence Suomi said after contacting Sun Yang.
All the collected items, whether good or not, and whether they can be used or not, are put into a certain survivor camp. The camp has not shown any signs of being breached yet, and the Suomi team is also excited to open blind boxes in various stores to see if they can find anything useful.
The Palette Team was quite silent. Their mission was to collect various materials and blueprints to supplement the base's technological shortcomings.
There weren't any problems with the agricultural base. After hearing that Sun Yang had considered animal husbandry during the construction process, Maria discussed with Sun Yang about moving the town's cattle into the agricultural base for feeding.
After some fierce bargaining, Sun Yang finally agreed to move all the livestock in the town to the agricultural base in exchange for a large amount of medicines, medical supplies, and regular training for the town's doctors. The base would then be the responsibility of Sun Yang.
The output of these livestock is also divided 50-50, including the birth of pups, the milk produced, and the various meat and internal organs when slaughtered.
Maria was proud of her eloquence, as she was able to get half of the output, and also asked for scarce supplies to train the town's doctors, and saved the feed. It was really a good deal.
Those animals used to be slaughtered every once in a while if they showed signs of illness or were seriously injured and couldn't be treated. Now that Sun Yang was in charge, even if they needed to be slaughtered due to poor health, half of the proceeds would go to the town. And the medical resources alone would have paid for themselves.
Sun Yang also breathed a sigh of relief. The team for a proper agricultural and animal husbandry breeding base was finally put together, and all the necessary materials were ready. They just had to wait for the base to be built before they could start planned large-scale breeding.
Time passed quietly for another month.
Amidst Yabuharu's scolding, several dejected men and women came out of one room, while a dozen or so men and women with relieved looks on their faces came out from the other side.
These people were the first batch of employees at the breeding base that Yabuharu was in charge of teaching. They were all quite old, with the youngest being 40. These were people who had received sufficient education before the outbreak and had survived for twenty years. They understood many things and had a sufficient understanding of technological products.
The new generation lacks a lot of knowledge, so they encounter serious obstacles in the learning process and find it difficult to learn.
The same thing happened with medical training; many people simply couldn't understand what was being taught. Furthermore, medical training itself was incredibly challenging. Only one senior doctor in this area could follow Imhot and Bonnie's explanations, leaving the remaining young people to fretfully take notes.
The work in Chicago and Detroit had concluded. When Sun Yang had almost finished sorting things out in the small town, he ran back to pick up the two teams. He also picked up any T-dolls he could still communicate with and were willing to go to other cities to make a living.
During this time, the base was able to manufacture most large vehicles. Smaller vehicles made of nothing but welding rods were recycled and rebuilt into sturdy and reliable vehicles.
Of course, these things were discussed with Maria. Only after Maria said there was no problem did Sun Yang pull the survivors onto the bus and return to the town.
These new survivors caused a bit of a commotion, but people had always been coming to this town, so they were pretty used to it. After all, there were very few people like Sun Yang who were discussing whether or not to build a base.
One month later, the breeding base was officially launched. The first batch of employees walked in, packed their bags, got dressed, and followed Shu Chun through the entire automated planting and breeding process.
This house full of automated equipment looks like an ordinary large iron base from the outside, but in fact it is equipped with various drones and automatic watering and monitoring systems.
A solid defensive wall and barbed wire were also erected outside the base. The guards walked around them diligently, looking at the scenery in the distance from time to time.
Imhot finally let those hot-headed interns go and left some books for them to read carefully and look through if they didn't remember anything.
The trading point in Kenshi World still hadn't been built. During construction, Rhynchophorus would occasionally appear to cause trouble. These multi-meter-tall, massive, and thick-skinned creatures were a real headache.
There are pictures here, which can be viewed after the updated version
Not only were they fast and powerful, they also lived in groups. Even a humanoid being pecked by a beaked beast wouldn't feel good. Even with a machine gun, it often took more than a dozen rounds to bring one down, which caused a lot of trouble for the construction work.
Despite this, this half-built trading post has already attracted some merchants, as they can buy authentic beaked beast skins and meat, as well as powerful Griffin mercenaries.
Yes, some humanoids have been traveling around with the caravan, and some have returned with strange mechanical prosthetic limbs.
When everything was ready, Sun Yang went to Joel's residence with the mechanical prosthesis that Croc had studied.
Anyway, I'm almost done with The End of the World. Then it's time to return to the world of Dark Souls to rest up, meet new people, and digest some of the manpower and stuff.
Then I had two ideas.
One is to take a break first and write some stories about the various T-dolls working as mercenaries in the KENSHI world, and their passionate fights with all kinds of people and magical animals, as well as some daily stories about the T-dolls in the base.
The other one is that after Dark Souls integrates the resources, he will directly start a gay war and follow Ains to mess with the Americans.
I'd love to write about both, and I have ideas for both. I'm just not sure which one readers would like to see first. If you have a preferred route, please leave a comment in the two paragraphs above. I'll see which one has the most comments by midnight tonight (November 2022, 11).
