Villainess Of Hearts

Chapter 220 - Tension In The Air

Her fingers touched something warm and smooth, and she quickly realized that it wasn't the popcorn. The two of them had tried to grab the popcorn at the same time and she caught his hand. She could feel the larger hand in between her fingertips and felt the pads of his palm rub over her own.

Somehow she didn't think that such a thing would be quite a pleasant thing to do, and so Rosalyn Lockhart didn't exactly release her grip on him at once and watched his expression heat up.

The man perhaps hoped she would let go at once, but now that she didn't—he had to acknowledge what was happening. "Uh… uh, Rosalyn?" he asked. He tried to give her a smile, but it only made him look even more nervous and tense.

She tilted her head at him, feigning innocence with a smile as she asked, "What is it? You're looking troubled, Alexander."

"You're holding… well, it's the popcorn that you want, right?" His hand heated up even more now that their distance closed in once again. He inched the bowl closer and flushed harder, if only to let her have more access to the popcorn bowl that rested in between them. "Here."

The Queen of Hearts paid no heed to it.

Perhaps it was a silly thing to keep looking at him, but she knew that even whilst she stared at him—his own remarks of being good-looking to his mother were nothing but the truth. Maybe one could even say that it was an understatement. He could be both cute and downright handsome right now. His gaze never averted from hers, he gulped slightly, and it was this moment where his eyes met hers that made her fall for a spell.

Her heart pounded slightly.

It was the atmosphere again, playing a dangerous game with her again. It was the imminent darkness surrounding them and the muted lights from the television and the soft sounds that came along with it.

Did he not know that such a gaze like that could leave a woman breathless?

Rosalyn Lockhart bit on her lip and only stared at him. She half-wondered if she should stop, but her body already inched forward, slowly closing the already small gap between them as she stopped and hovered slightly above the bowl. Her fingers were already intertwined with his and the Queen gazed down at the wonderful morsel beneath her.

She wanted a taste.

"A-Ah… don't you think this is too sudden?" Alexander said with a nervous laugh. His other hand reached for the collar of his shirt and loosened it slightly, if only to catch some more air. "I know some people do it with people they've just met… but I just met you last night and all? And well, I—"

The Queen of Hearts frowned slightly and stopped, "So you do not enjoy this at all?"

Rosalyn Lockhart would never actually be this considerate if it had been another time, and she enjoyed making her Knight give in to her desires—but she paused, if only to ascertain that she was not forcing him. The idea of the man kicking her in the groin or punching her face did not escape her mind.

"Well, I didn't exactly say that—"

"Then what is so wrong?" She pursed her lips at him and leaned her head closer. A smile momentarily formed on her lips, "If you do not dislike doing something, then why are you restraining yourself? All I want to do is taste you a bit—I won't exactly bite you, unless you like it."

Alexander could have been a tomato right now. Perhaps he was a hotter and redder than that when he realized he had a woman hovering right above him and ready to consume him. Consummate? His mind went into different tangents and made weird conclusions, but he had to stop her…?

He cleared his throat and then gulped. "I think that there is a good time for everything?"

Her lips were a deep shade of red and he wondered if she tasted like the strawberries she ate for breakfast.

"A good time?" She blinked at him. "You already refused me once."

"Huh?"

The woman's face heated up and she kicked her leg slightly, she nearly dropped the popcorn bowl. Rosalyn was looking a bit frustrated and she gave him a look that was slightly pleading. "Will you just let me kiss you once so I can live the rest of my days knowing how it might have been?"

… that kind of request was odd and oddly specific.

There was a surety in her voice that this was something that would not continue forth beyond this. He didn't exactly like her sounding so sure of what the future held—because he was thinking of plans. And here she was talking like she was about to leave now? Did he make any sense now?

"Can you please get up, Rosalyn?"

The woman blinked, but then followed his request and leaned away from him. She was sitting on her knees and looking at him with a frown. He picked up the popcorn bowl and placed it on the coffee table and scratched his head.

Maybe he ruined the mood.

He was great with that, wasn't he? And yet he needed to do something else and stood up. "I… I don't know why you're being awfully pushy about this. But I'll… I'll do it."

Rosalyn Lockhart gave him a flat look. "Huh?"

"I'll kiss you!" He said and averted his gaze. Alexander rubbed the back of his neck and fought the urge to feel embarrassed. "But this is my first kiss unlike you, so if you could give me a minute or two for me to take this in or at least brush my teeth? Maybe find a mint?" Either way, he left the living room and moved towards the bathroom. He groaned and threw a look in her direction. "I mean, if you don't want to do it then—it's fine as well. But I'll still brush my teeth. Keep watching the movie."

.

.

The Queen of Hearts might have gone a tad overboard, but she didn't really expect such a reaction from the man. Rosalyn Lockhart slapped a hand over her face and stifled a laugh—she didn't know who was a lot more ridiculous. Was it her or was it him? How could she act like this towards a man who was yet to become King?

And yet her decision was already made up when she realized she wanted to taste him even just once.

Her solution to all of these troubles that she was facing regarding Alice was to find her and her brother a way back home. There was no shame in that plan, and it might exactly just be the one that the King of Hearts had wanted to. Once the Time Man had located the King and found her a way back home… surely he could send the two back in their proper world.

And so for a Queen that could not restrain herself and someone who always got what she wanted—it had made the King of Hearts inexplicably more attractive now than ever. He would be someone who could be her 'might be' if she had possibly invested more into their relationship?

Rosalyn Lockhart really didn't know.

The woman grabbed her upper arm and gave it a tight squeeze. "I'm not usually this needy… am I?" She was out of her mind for experiencing all of these feelings that she couldn't define. The Queen of Hearts shifted, giving her knees a hug as she frowned. "I can blame him for it? Can I?" Her gaze flickered to the bathroom.

His near-kiss with her in the garden still had her head reeling slightly. Perhaps it was not knowing of the outcome that had driven her crazy. And so this wasn't her fault. It was his fault for being so pushy, for him coming into her life and then toying with her senses.

A sound made her look up to see the young man leave the bathroom. "A-ah, I'm done," he said. The man walked over back towards the couch and plopped down. "So what do you think of the movie?"

The Queen of Hearts glanced back and realized that the movie had come to its end—the Princess kissed the Ogre and then became one herself. She chose love over her own beauty? And she was fine… with living in a swamp?

Rosalyn Lockhart felt her lips purse at the ending. "It's… it's a novel thought?"

"Did you disagree with the ending and thought it was better for her to wait for an actual prince to come and save her?" he asked.

The Queen of Hearts folded her hands together and then shook her head. "I suppose not, because the two of them share the same feelings with one another? But there is also the fact that sometimes a person shall not marry for love, but for duty." she glanced at him. "I suppose it is an idealistic ending if you were to ask me where the two shall love each other after this and everything would be alright."

"There are actually two more movies after this? Some spin-offs and a series… but ah, I don't think that was what you wanted to hear?" Alexander scratched his cheek. "Truth be told, there will be disagreements in their relationship and this Ogre? He'd start feeling insecure about his appearance, his condition of being a future King of the kingdom, and then he'd wonder about how things would turn out differently if he never saved the Princess."

"Is that so?" She didn't want to admit that somehow she now found the Ogre relatable. "But despite all of that… did it work out?"

"Of course it did! But it's not so easy, you know?" he smiled softly. "I guess it's just what makes me a little more idealistic than most people… I mean, I'm not judging you if you want to be free and do whatever you want. If you want to kiss somebody and he wants it? Go ahead—but maybe I kind of want to be with someone who'd be my own Princess."

Rosalyn Lockhart blinked. "So that's why you don't want to kiss me."

"Well, it's not like you'd meet the person right away, you know? This isn't a fairytale… and I uh, well, I find you attractive." He raised his head and weakly smiled.. "Being a man is hard, you know? I'd probably want to do more stuff than just kissing. Ack, why do I have to admit this to you!"
